About Me and the Helicopter
- I have been flying for about 22 years. My nearly 4,000 hours of flight time is in Robinson R44, Robinson R22, and Bell 206L (Long Ranger) helicopters.
- The helicopter in this video is a Robinson R44 Raven II.

About the Video
- The video was recorded with two GoPro Hero 8 cameras and a GoPro Hero 7 camera connected to the helicopter's intercom system with an NFlightCam audio cable (amzn.to/31syLTm). All cameras record audio, but I dialed down the helicopter sound by 10 decibels from normal volume so it wouldn't be annoying.
- The "cockpit cam" front-facing camera was mounted with my current Instrument Cam set up, which you can learn about in this Behind-the-Scenes video: • Behind the Scenes: Coc... . It's based upon a MyPilotPro Helicopter Mount (mypilotpro.com/product/helico...) modified to get the height I need. The other camera was mounted inside the helicopter using MyPilotPro Spider Swivel GoPro Windshield Mounts (www.mypilotpro.com/product/my....
- The video was edited on a iMac using Davinci Resolve 17 software. Learn more about it here: www.blackmagicdesign.com/prod...
- The intro music is by Bob Levitus, famed "Dr. Mac." You can find him here: www.boblevitus.com/
I TRY (really!) to drop cockpit POV videos during flying season on Sunday every two or three weeks and "extras" or "shorts" midweek. Good to see your videos again Maria.
Nice to see you again. Thanks for the tour.
Yay, another Maria flying her helo! It's been a while... Are you trying to stretch out the last few hours on the aircraft?
Just love watching you fly and narrate. It somehow just... works! 👍🏻 Greetings from the UK🇬🇧
Just found this video, Maria. Any time you fly over Wenatchee, I’m there. I spent 6 months there in 2000. I really enjoyed the area.
Love the comments, keep talking Maria! Friend of mine flys in Myrtle Beach. Said he knows you, Capt. Swanson. Keep the flights material coming! Love to watch and learn! Your a joy to many!
Swanson? Oh. Must be the guy I sent to my friend Holly there. Hope he's having fun!
7:52 I'll give hydrologists a lot of credit for thinking ahead -- because during the short heat wave in June, on top of the typical snowmelt, a whole LOT of water got dumped into the Columbia; and river levels the past few weeks in Portland/Vancouver have been really elevated -- resulting in multiple bridge lifts on I-5 between Hayden Island and Vancouver. It was lapping up to flood stage and has been for a couple weeks now; parts of the River Walk east of Vancouver are presently submerged. We are _not_ lacking for water up here this season.
I was very surprised to see how low the water levels were locally this spring -- until I realized that they were "making room" for the water that would eventually get to us with spring melts and rainfall. The water is very high right now -- a lot later than it usually is this time of the year.
GREAT video!!! Thank you!!!!
It looks like very nice mountain wave up there. 🙂
Thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable video, and for voluntarily subjecting yourself (apparently) to comments about your altitude, radio work, etc. This video, again, highlights some of the things that only a helicopter can do. I appreciate all the work you put into your videos.
You wouldn't believe some of the comments I get! 🤣 The CO detector light is like a beacon for what Seth Meyer would call "jackals." I get people who don't like that I don't always say "Wenatchee" at the end of my calls or that I don't make enough calls. I get people -- mostly airplane pilots -- who complain about altitude. And then there are the folks who insist the videos are made with a simulator. It never ends! 🤣🤣🤣
Glad you enjoyed it! I hope to make a bunch more this summer.
Simple yet enjoyable flight with good narration, Thanks! Maybe one day this year I will get over to explore your area in my Cavalon 915is. We'll be in Eburg for sure. And thanks for exposing me to Nick Zentner way back. Keep up the vids!
I landed in Wenatchee this past fire season. Great place. I stayed at the Hilton down by the river.
Nice place. It's only a few years old.
Thank you Maria for posting a spring flight. Glad to see you working again. Safe flying my friend.
Thanks!
Very enjoyable viewing on a Sunday evening ( in uk ) talk as much as you like , you are very easy to listen to , nice n clear 👍🏻 great scenery and video . Thank you
Thanks very much!
Welcome back, @Maria! It seems much longer than it's actually been; I hope your off-season/snow-birding, was enjoyable! _C'ya_ on the next one! Cheers- 🍒 🚁 🍒 😉
I had the trifecta of long trips over the past year: 5 weeks in August/September, 2+ months in December/January/February, and then another 5 weeks in March/April. But I'm home for the summer with a goal of flying at least 10 hours per month starting in June. Should be lots of new video to come.🤞🏻
@@FlyingMAir - Great to hear! Thanks for the reply, and see you, next video! Cheers-
Lovely relaxing video after a day of air traffic control at Gatwick airport. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you! I'd love to see more flights over central Washington. Take care.
Me, too! It looks like I might be flying between here and Lewiston/Clarkston on the Idaho border in about a week. I hope to get some fresh content from that flight.
yeah.. new video.. i love it
Thanks for sharing Maria, can never get enough of these Videos
Great video :)
You never talk too much. It's always interesting to hear the commentary.
Thank you so much! I try not to be a blabbermouth and keep things interesting.
Maria, good to see you again, love the Wenatchee area! Great video as always!
Thank you! 😃
I really enjoy your posts. My uncle was the manager of the highland fruit Co at monitor in the 50s an 60s my brother was born in a log cabin at lake Wenatchee 1938, I have family in east Wenatchee an Matawa I haven't been there since 1974 , I live in Kansas. Thanks again for the commentary with your posts
Thanks for checking in! I love hearing from folks who have connections to this area!
nice Video!
Thank you for the ride. I don't mind the talking ❤️👍🏼😎
Hi Maria, nice to see your back! Last I read Mission Ridge’s last day was 1 May 2022. Always good to see your videos and you never talk too much! Love all the extra information you provide. (KMWH)
Thanks so much! I’m so glad that local folks watch these. 😊
María, How are you? I'm so glad to see another one of your videos!!!
I'm good. Did a lot of traveling from August through the end of April and I didn't collect much footage last year. I'm motivated to collect more and make more videos this year. Let's see how I do!
Hello you fly over some very nice country
Great video as always. Did you get your helicopter overhaul yet?
I sold it. 😉
Yep; I just paid $7.44 per gallon to put gas in my airplane. To make myself feel better about it, I just recall the old adage that gas and oil are the cheapest components of flying. I've been putting off my return to helicopter flying, because it will probably cost $12 PER MINUTE to rent an R-44.
$720/hour sounds about right.
Your avgas per litre is about what 91 unleaded is in Australia
Always great flying with you Maria! Do you follow rivers on your own, or is there some rule you have to/should? Thanks!
Just did it as an interesting route. This part of Washington is pretty empty.
@@FlyingMAir Thanks Maria. Was just wondering if it were a rule you had to follow. I do love following the rivers, lots to see!
Very few rules about where I can fly. Some airspace is restricted and other airspace is controlled. Other than that, I can pretty much fly anywhere without talking to anyone.
@@FlyingMAir Thanks Maria! All the best.
mainly like the drying vids.
LOL. There are plenty here and I'm sure I'll make some new ones. Thanks!
Do some trees get pollinated by the wind even with the absence of bees? Thanks, Ronn
I would suspect wind pollination is very limited for fruit trees in general.
Your proverbial "honey bee" isn't the only pollinator. There are hundreds of others depending where you live. Honey bee in commercial hives are researched, and so get most of the news.
