wrong again, Ron (not Roy) Atkinson was replaced in November, mainly because he didn't win the league the previous season when United won the first 10 matches and were well ahead of everyone else .
They were in a bad run of form and fourth bottom, I will concede, but the beginning of November was way too early to be considered a relegation threat!
United were already looking for Ferguson to take over and needed to sack Atkinson first ( Atkinson found out they had already made enquiries whilst he was also going through personal problems )
Atkinson's main problem was that he only concentrated on the first team whereas United have a history of youth development and he mainly lost the league because there were many injuries and no real strength in depth.
also Martin Edwards didn't like the fact Atkinson went to Mexico to comment on the World Cup rather than doing what United were paying him for and sorting out for the new season ahead, he thought Atkinson had took his eye off the ball.
Ferguson sorted that out but it took a while because he had to start a the bottom whilst trying to establish his own first team squad
Prior to Ferguson arriving, Atkinson was actually our most successful manager since Sir Matt Busby

Ferguson didn't have a massive success at once either. He was even close to being fired, but unlike the owners today, managers got some time to prove themself back then, and look how well that went for Ferguson.

Aye, but he’d already split the Celtic and Rangers monopoly of Scottish football in the 80s- back when Celtic and Rangers and Scottish Football was far, far closer to Europe and England than it is now- by winning 3 leagues, four Scottish Cups, a league cup, a UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup (beating Real Madrid), and a UEFA Super Cup with Aberdeen. Plus, he’d served an Assistant Mangers apprenticeship in Scotland’s national team under the great Jock Stein.
They had far more to base their bets on than United had with Moyes. Though, I think he should have been given time. LVG did no better despite having a far larger reputation.

Fantastic manager without doubt if memory serves he built 4 class outfits at utd never went too long without winning a trophy. And what he did at Aberdeen should not be underestimated either.....fergie turned utd into a real power house instead of the nearly team. I think klopp has done a very similar job at liverpool having the right man at the top makes a massive impact.

Also, there are some managers who would go there and leave after a few years through boredom or arguments with the board. Moyes, through his eleven years at Everton has proven both his commitment and longevity to anyone looking for those qualities.
No I don't support United. But I think it was a bad move because he really hasn't won much in his career and he can't attract big players such as Fabregas , Gundogan or Ronaldo who might have signed for United if Sir Alex was still in charge. Anyway I'm not here to rip on Moyes just saying a big club like United needs a great manager who has won trophies and can improve his squad.

Moyes is a fantastic manager. To do what he did with Everton year after year with such limited funds says it all. Its a shame not enough Man U fans get behind him because the players need to believe in the manager for it to work. Just for the record of everybody commenting here. You really need to judge people on their merits and faults, impact, achievements and circumstances.
Somebody today could have a team of specialist experts help choose players along with a multimillion pound budget and help construct a team and then be allowed at least another season to improve on deficiencies in the team and problems with the team. If all of these things are part of the normal process then the achievements are not of the same magnitude.
The skill of that manager will be tested, but to compare that to having to virtually rebuild a club from youth upwards is obviously erroneous.
Now imagine a manager creating a club's identity and ethos, being a pioneer with how managing football is carried out in a climate that doesn't welcome change, having to work with below par facilities and infrastructure, creating and structuring the club's departments, having to work through two major disasters one that was inherited at the inception of the job role and the other whilst in the building process, losing nearly all of your players which were capable of winning several top trophies, narrowly escaping death with serious injuries sustained, and still having success with major trophies.
Surely the manager just listed above cannot be discredited for having less trophies than others when taking everything into account and considering the circumstances.
If another manager creates a club's identity and ethos, creates the infrastructure which includes long term strategies which prove to be successful after he has left, hiring the correct people to carry on the work along with contingency planning, and also being successful by winning major trophies. If that manager wins less trophies than his immediate and subsequent successors how can he be considered less when most of the work, processes and plans were a part of his legacy?
Look at a manager with limited resources who wins either one or several major trophies, in a league or leagues where the team is not challenging for top awards and is dominated by bigger teams with much larger resources and better players, is consistently successful in terms of objectives set and expectations realistically expected, then upsets the status quo so much that everyone appears astonished at the achievements.
Look at a manager who has huge success whilst greatly innovating the actual sport itself (which itself is challenging, hard to implement and time consuming) and compare this to someone with more trophies who inherited a great infrastructure and recruiting, great players and with an established identity and ethos at a highly acclaimed club with a great history and world renown.
Now think about all the things we do not know about a coach or manager, whose ideas are whose, what work went into the background, anybody who did not get the recognition for what they contributed, any hidden details or circumstances and things like the achievements which are not reported or acknowledged by people.
When you think along these lines any claims or opinions are more baseless and deficient than vastly factual and empirical!

They made a good choice, when you say 'great managers', are you referring to those managers who leave clubs after 3/4 years? Moyes was never given chance, he went into title winning club and got rid of the staff, older players that won everything, Saha that would walk into the current starting 11 and came in with Phill Neville as his number 2😂 but in Moyes defence, wanted to sign Thiago Alcantara & Kroos 😂 but only Fellaini came through who by the way was not sold of by the next 2 coaches 😂 everybody used United, Ramos wanted new contract threatened to sign for United 😂 United wanted to sign player, the club would hold them for ransom, then the agent, then the player and when they finally land player, he was reject, then the current donkeys at United demanded new improved contracts, its the same story at Ac Milan but at least they went and signed young donkeys 😂 they went from LVG to Mourinho back to Olly so in essence they went from Youth prospects to proven finished article back to Youth prospects, basically a proof they didn't know what they wanted. They should have stuck with LVG although they passed side to side he was going to bring in more clinical and technical final 3rd players stagnated under Mourinho. Fergie always said teams were built in cycles, Chelsea was the 1st oil club who hoarded world class players, they had run of winning trophies with revolving door for managers and now in 2020 they're restarting with youthful team and smart buys and It looks like they learnt from Uniteds mistakes.
