      In the Horus Heres book: Master of Mankind Big E actually explains why he didnt remove the nails.
      Basicly its replaced parts of his brain as you said, and removing it would straight up kill him.
      He said: He is a misshapen tool, but a tool nontheless.
      Big E didnt really mind the mindless rage as long as he could tell him in which direction he should rage.

    Fun as this is, Angron had it bad. Empathetic psychic connection, Eldar making a self fulfilled prophecy on a recently awoken Angron, Dark Age of Technology world of slavers, implantation of the nails and killing his father figure, getting robbed of dying with his family, being forced to serve under an uncaring "father", being unable to feel anything other than pain and rage outside of slaughter, being offered up to Khorne by your brother, and overall never having a real choice.

      @Wojciech Pordzik Who's to say that that wasn't his plan all along? That he knowingly let himself be crippled and tied to the throne, he allowed the imperium to turn into an oppressive psychopathic state, and everything else in an effort to ensure humanities survival? Perhaps he knew and planned for all that was going to happen, and has a plan on coming back and saving humanity.

    • @michellewilt4479
      @michellewilt4479 Před 3 lety +4

      @Wojciech Pordzik I mean Big E gets a lot of crap, but I can see him doing anything to win and keep humanity as a whole safe. It stands to reason that he had to have known the malignant tumors would mess with his plans and turn his kids against him, and that telling them about chaos and the webway project would possibly have turned the ones he didn't want to turn, so he sacrificed those he knew he could ultimately triumph against (horus) or turn back with sincere humility (most of the other traitors primarchs) or would be outright killed (bad batman and the twins) and that sacrificing a few loyal sons would help reinforce the human will to fight, while he got himself mostly dead so that he could be excused from going after them personally so that he could secretly both heal himself and fix the webway tunnel he's got his golden toilet on. Because if he had gone and quickly finished horus like he could have and then went on to personally led the counter attack, Terra would have been overrun with daemons from the webway tunnel (devastating humanity's will to fight) while also running the risk of creating a new massive warp rift similar to the Eye or the Maelstrom and turning humanity into something akin to the eldar, removing the only real threat against chaos.

    • @custink22
      @custink22 Před 3 lety +6

      @Wojciech Pordzik ah and i forgot the part that i like most, because i truly HATE the "Emps was a psychopath" new lore crap... Big E actively loved his sons, but knew all along what was going to happen, so he purged himself of his love and compassion for them to ensure things played out exactly as he wanted it to. I think of it as a Christian God sacrificing His son to save humanity level power play, for the same reasons.

    • @Dr.Gainzzz
      @Dr.Gainzzz Před 4 lety +43

      @Alkis TX I mean more or less what happened to those legions and how they changed after they were reunited with their primarch. The dusk raiders being the main example terran born loyal astartes and once mortartion came into the picture the dusk raiders were completley reformed into the death guard with their new leaders being from the poisoned world of Barbosa (autocorrect won't let me spell it right) this was the case with most traitor primarch legions it's why horus had to plan the istvan massacre to kill all of the loyalists in the traitors legions.

    • @Dr.Gainzzz
      @Dr.Gainzzz Před 4 lety +21

      @Alkis TX yeh like I said tho I'm talking about the legions then the actual primarchs, horus is a good example when he took over the Luna wolves he changed many things about the legion turning it into HIS legion then they eventually became the sons of horus much to the regret of loyalist Luna wolves like garviel loken. Also the war hounds were changed into the savage world eaters and those who refused the butchers nails were killed and those loyal to the emperor had no place in the legion, arguably the only legion pre primarch to stay the same are the imperial heralds now known as the word bearers their interests stayed in line with lorgar.

    The simple fact is that it was not known how to remove the Nails without killing him ( I guess ).

That was probably the most tragic part for me, that they knew what the nails did to Angron , but were so desperate to be accepted by him that after getting them they already started killing those who refused at first to get them until everybody complied.

Even back then they didn't feel a need to hide their love of killing/their joy in the pure simplicity of their perceived role as warriors. Not honorable knights, or grand champions, or overly drilled soldiers. But simple warriors who fought with a bond and unity borne of family like familiarity. All they had was each other really and when they found Angron they so so so much wanted his vindication that not only were they good warriors but the way they lived without shame in their blood shedding was perfectly fine and normal. As far as punishments go, this is actually fitting for Angron. The Romans called it Decimatus. It was the harshest punishment a roman legion could receive, and was used to punish desertion or cowardice.
    Well, in rome, military service terms were measured in decades. Most of the men in your legion were as close to you as kin, as you've spent years with them. If you deserted on your own, you'd get stoned to death (it's a slow way to die), but if you deserted as part of a group? One tenth of your group would be marked for execution, and the other members would be the ones to do the execution. By stoning.

    • @MunDane68

      Decimation was the harshest of punishment.. It was more used against people who deserted or didn't obey orders out of fear. They'd pick stones where stones in black meant a death sentence.. But it'd be your best friends who did it. It wasn't stoning it was usually with "Bats" or Iron slaps. The punishment wasn't harshest for the person dying.. But the people who had to beat their best friend to death, and carry that with them in life. (What he references isn't really Decimation).

    I mean Honor and empathy is what was taken away from him to be fair, so him being so reckless and one that failed the most makes sense. Without empathy he can not connect with others well, nor can he truly think rationally but did at the time value those who would STAND by his side.
    So what if he failed to take a world? His dad held NO position, nor was he ever treated with some respect like the other primarchs did. However despite how messed up he was he did lead a group of survivors and they in turn were willing to DIE beside ANGRON. That to me shows at the time he could inspire others, did wanted change to be had done for this world of his for he held empathy towards the people in slavery and just wanted freedom.
    yet big he proves to his own hubres that Angron now embodies is indeed empathy, for instead of showing a caring nature like he did to most of the primarchs he scoffed at him for take for example his meeting with Dorn. Dorn already knew that the Emperor was indeed his true father, handed him a planet but not only that FOUND the phalanx to which the Emperor just was so happy to hear.
    Angron on the other hand gave him nothing but a broken world, few supporters of his, and not even worth the bother of trying to show Angron that he is here to restore mankind into a new future. Thus Angron has every right to be angry at The Emperor, be bitter towards his sons for he does not know them, his nails are driving him mad, the Emperor did nothing of the sorts to help him, and was always castes out.
    You also point out Russ won but spared Angron's life because "he felt sorry" in a sense. However without backup from his troops Angron won that 1v1 with RUSS who is a very good fighter. Perturabo starved Angron for days before they fought, Angron was much weaker than this but then it becomes a complete mind vs a over painful unthinkable hunger for blood/death. Gee no wonder why he is one of the worst primarchs because the writers literally write Angron into a horrible corner that no matter what he does he is doomed to fail. This to me however points out that The Emperor is also doomed to fail for he over thinks, he lacks empathy and I mean TRUE empathy, his drive to unite humanity cost humanities soul in the process for you can save as many humans as you want. But the moment you begin to discard humanities hope in something other than machines that can not grant everything to you, forget the basic human rights we in turn value that the Emperor played devil advocate heavily.....Well he messed up yet a vast majority of people will stroke the big E's ego because " all knowing, all powerful, so great he can do anything" which is just meh.
    By no means am I a fan of his, I'm more of a Dorn, and Khan fan yet still give the man some credit and respect than just slander it down.

    Poor Angron. POOR, POOR ANGRON. All of this because of the bloody, BLOODY, BUTCHER'S NAIL.
    Edit: BIG E on the other hand should've actually orbital bombed Nuceria and lied to Angron that he didn't knew about him fighting the lords of Nuceria. That and actually tried to fix Angron. He was an uber psyker that was pretty much at this point one step from godhood and could've used biomancy to regenerate Angron's brain.

      @@CommanderBohn From Master of Mankind by Aaron Dembski-Bowden:
      ‘Can you remove it?’
      ‘Of course,’ the Emperor answered, still looking at the screens. Arkhan did his best to hide his surprise. ‘Then, Divine One, why would you leave it there?’
      ‘This is why.’ The Emperor rested both hands on Angron’s head, one with the fingertips pressed to the primarch’s temple and cheek, the other pressed to the crown of his shaven head where the cable-tendrils joined the flesh and bone. The images on several screens immediately resolved to a clearer imprint of a brutishly dense skull miserable with crude cybernetics and the bone-scarring of powerful surgical laser cuts.
      ‘Do you see?’ the Emperor asked.
      Arkhan saw. The tendrils were sunk deep, rooted in the meat of the brain, threaded to the nervous system, and down in roughly serpentine coils around the spinal column. Every movement must have been agony for the primarch, feeding back into the base emotions of anger and spite.
      Worse, the brain’s limbic lobe and insular cortex were more than just savaged by the pain engine’s insertion; they had been surgically attacked and removed even before implantation. The device hammered into his skull hadn’t ruined those sections of the brain - it had replaced them. Ugly black cybernetics showed on the internal scans, in place of entire sections of the primarch’s brain tissue.
      ‘They are the only thing keeping him alive,’ Arkhan said.
