I don't think that's the problem here, at least that is my interpetation. Perturabo indeed wanted to be an innovator and a builder however genetic manipulation of Emperor basically forced him to be only fully appreciative (is that a Word?i think ) only of creation of his sieging equipment and weapons. When Corvus Corax was creating new genestock, the guy from Mechanicum specifically mentions fourth legion's geenseed to be really manipulated to make them tougher, bitter and specialized in a sieging warfare if i remember corectly. This why Perturabo's first Instinct was to create a weapon as a first thing to his adoptive father on Olympia. He can't help himself for the most part, he is designed to make killing tools, vacations to him probably wouldn't feel Right to him because of his design let's call it. It's just his soul is a different thing it seems

One race being a bunch of non-organic immortal death machines that use flesh eating weapons as their primary weapon and the other being a horde of bio-monsters who's only interest is consuming biomass and have weapons mainly tailored to handle other biological lifeforms. Granted, the tyranids can adapt their hive fleets to specialize against a particular threat, but they still have the disadvantage of having their entire arsenal being biological.

Iron warriors are my favourite traitor Legion. Thanks for covering them. I like their practicality and how stubborn they are. I like how they try and use chaos for their own ends rather than blindly worshipping it. I also like how they seem to have the most understandable reason to betray the Imperium. Centuries of hard work, doing the shitty job no one else wanted to do, and thankless self sacrifice, without proper credit, is bound to make something snap. Also, Perturabo managing to direct the disobedient and crazed forces of chaos on the seige of Terra is nothing short of commendable. He is a very unlikeable person though.
Edit: when I say "unlikeable person" I mean he isn't good at making others like him. His social and diplomatic skills are not his strength. I myself really like Perturabo as a character.

Honestly, Iron Warriors have a lot of potential to make for interesting characters, because they're the bad guys, but unlike most other people working for choas, they aren't gibbering madmen, generally being fairly rational fairly rational, and most of them working for the ruinous powers in-name-only (if even that) because they feel that they have been wronged/betrayed, not because they actually like the literal forces of Space Hell. That combined with the fact that they are actually disciplined, and aside from occasional infighting, they can actually organize and get things done, means that a lot could be done with them, and them still being mostly normal people by space marine standards could lead to compelling characters being made out of them with interesting dynamics (kind of like some of the Night Lords), but they never really get screentime, outside of being the targets of loyalist bolters.

i have mixed feelings about the iron warriors and perty. the “kill every 10th man” is massive douche energy. but in one of the books fulgrim shows him a vision of perty’s utopia on his home planet, with perty a peaceful scholar leading and governing his people, and there’s more insight when the setting is perty’s personal chambers/workshop. he created so much stuff, including a perfectly working tiny warhound titan. then he smashed the mini titan with fulgrim’s face and it was pretty funny.

I just realized the visions of good lives many Primarchs and other people in 40K have been shown could very easily co-exist. Which makes me wonder....is their universe even real to them or is it *they* who are the "what if" vision existing through the Warp's energies unleashed by the birth of Slaanesh? Perhaps their "visions" are actually them seeing the true reality and the setting is just a nightmare in the Warp. It would be very 40K for that to be revealed and, by extension, that all of their trials and suffering and victories for ten millennia never meant anything at all because the very universe they live in does not exist. They just think it does.

From a lot of the short stories and codex campaigns I've read, the Iron Warriors really seem to be among the most logical and tactical forces used by Chaos. Most "warp smiths" (outside of the Dark Mechanicus) that actually make and maintain Chaos's ships, vehicles, and weapons are Iron Warriors. The Iron Warriors have a logical and methodical approach to combat, rather than charging in like berserk retards like the World Eaters, or relying on warp magic to do most of the heavy lifting like the Death Guard or Thousand Sons. One of my favorite stories is about an Iron Warriors dreadnought who becomes a ruler of a planet, and invites several other Chaos warband generals (who were from newer generations of traitors) to his palace to tell him an epic story of their combat deeds in exchange for some Eldar soulstones and other loot. None of the generals can impress the Iron Warrior dreadnought guy, and he basically calls them a bunch of worthless whippersnappers; and him and his minions kill all of the visitors except a Thousand Sons guy who steals the loot and escapes using some Tzeentch hax.

I really like the image here on 3:34 because of how it's also present on rogal dorn's video. In a way really showing how the two bob the builders really are just two sides of the same coin, like whilst the warp died around dorn. The eye of terror was always present for perty and also how dorn had to learn all the things he needed as a builder from his grandfather, while perty pretty much knew everything from the get go I wonder who drew this and that

reading the Solar War, Perturabo pretty much does some cool tactics when sieging Terra, definitely effective at his task. Also I think it's funny how all someone needed to do was like, yo Iron Warriors why don't you just sit this Death World out and go take over this Exodite world or some shit take a break you know
