Norm's delivery of the line "Oooh no, that's not good!" had me in stitches!
best line ever ..flawless delivery
Never. Gets. Old. (As, after a rough day, I come here once again to watch and laugh once again :). Be well everyone.
@@GreenRiver72 Nice. Same with me.
You take care. 🤞🙂
You know that feeling when you realize you’ve got a storm of butterflies in you’re stomach and you’re going to go completely helpless with laughter? That tipping point? Yep, it’s that line for me.
Same. Funniest part of the sketch I think.
I like how this entire sketch is a giant metaphor for how Norm doesn’t fit in with the SNL cast
So true
@Liam Berg (STUDENT) Funniest guy in the world can’t do skit comedy. But he wrote every joke in the bit
Wow I see that now
That's not what a metaphor is. You mean an allegory.
@@remnant24 I want to make fun of you for being pedantic, but I've actually gained a greater understanding of the difference between those two words because of your comment. Thank you for your contribution.
I love that Norm always plays himself.
lol- except in Hollywood & Wine when Norm did all his lines as Clint Eastwood from White Hunter Black Heart
Funniest ep ever was the Robert Downey jr show with Norm in the cast. One great sketch after another.
That's him he writes skits where it obvious irony,. Like singing during a fight,. or Worrying about Unemployment when a murderer just got off scott free,. Good ole Uncle Norm,.. with grandpa jokes and a genius that dwells beyond our conception
“Or so the Germans would have us believe.”
Norm was also spot on hilarious as Burt Reynolds (Turd Furgerson) on Celebrity Jeopardy. 🤞🤟🤑😛
I love how the whole joke premise is established when Norm says, "what the hell was that?"
"What the hell was that" is a phrase that always makes me laugh when used by others. Proof that the straight man can be just as funny, if not funnier, than the funny man
That wasn’t nearly gay enough.
I said the exact same thing at the exact same time while watching it for the first time by myself, had we been in person I would’ve called jinx
@@aristotleasparaguspodcast1129
I actually use that phrase constantly. Enough that if I were a sitcom character, it would probably be my catchphrase.
@@aristotleasparaguspodcast1129 what the hell is even that?
This feels like a Norm joke. "So.. Uh... Ever wonder, what if there was like one guy in West Side Story that thought it was real weird that everyone kept singing and dancing all the time?"
i read that in my head in Norm's voice. lol thank you
They all start dancing ya know? And then just one guy just goes "heh? The hell is going on?"
@@DAMIENDMILLS and then Jerry Seinfeld shows up and is all "Dancing?? What's the deal with that? I mean you're in a street gang. I think dancing is on the list of things you shouldn't be doing."
@@DAMIENDMILLS "Ya got any gum?"
Or a norm "story" that happened to him lol
"While you were singing I got stabbed in the head by a Puerto Rican" is one of the greatest musical numbers of all-time!!! RIP Norm
It was written by the late Freddy Fender I believe.
And don't forget about the liner notes.
Watched this probably 10 times and that line really hit me this time around, for some reason.😂
That line means so much more living in NYC lol
@@juanelorriaga2840 Did you see the hopscotch markings on the ground?
Cheri Oteri doesn’t get enough love for this skit. She nailed every tomboy character done in these types of movies.
If you ever watch the original West Side Story, her imitation of the character Anybodys is spot on, including the body posturing, and mannerisms.
She was awesome in everything
She doesn’t get enough credit PERIOD. She is one of my all-time favorite SNL alum
It's sad we never got more of Cheri. Her and Molly Shannon should've made a movie together.
She's one of the most under-rated and under-utilized women in show business. Same with Rachel Dratch. Massive talent, I just get the idea that most writers and directors can't figure out what to do with them. Instead they take Michael Cera, from a help-wanted ad i'm guessing, and make him and Zendaya movie stars
RIP Norm Macdonald. Looks like the Panthers finally got him.
If only the Cobras hadn't stopped to sing while Norm was getting stabbed in the head by a Puerto Rican.
Cancer not panther lol
It was a draw
Meow.
@@seanglennon4012 Omg This comment's so funny & tragic at the same time. The Cancers are the worst. No gang will ever beat them. I've seen cancer push someone close to me to the edge of death. If only Norm recorded a routine about him dying of it. It would've been a fitting send off for one of the greatest comedians of all time.
Norm, Thank You for all the laughter you gave us. You were a Gift. The world is poorer with your passing. But you will live on in all these videos. Because Love and Laughter only dies when people let it. RIP Norm Macdonald. You will Always be The MAN.
TRUTH. From The Cheap Bastards.
3:49 "Oh no, that's not good." Norm just kills me in this.
That one gets me everytime too!
Me too! 🤣🤣🤣
It really is brilliant because if a regular person was dropped into a musical it would be their reaction.
I wouldn’t say it was only funny cuz of norm cuz will Ferrell is never not funny and Chris Kattan funny n this too but I love norm I saw a list (made by who I don’t know) listing norm verrry low on best 150 Saturday night live players they totally dissed him sayin he wasn’t funny which is bullshit check out the roast he did where he uses his fathers old jokes on Comedy Central he’s one of those people just his expressions make u laugh too besides this list I saw didn’t even list some of the great newer people like Aidy she didn’t even make ANY of the 150:( - or Beck or Kyle!!!!!! John Belushi made number one to b expected
He was the main reason because Norm wasn't in on it.
This is a terribly underrated sketch, should be considered an all time great.
I don't think there's an official rating for sketches, but this is an all-time great (imo).
It really is. I laugh so hard after that first song when he just goes back to the dice game and says "okay so anyway..."
JammastaJ23 Some website made a list of the top 50 sketches ever and this got in so...
This is the first time I've seen this, and I am totally amazed.
It is one of my favorites.
"Johnny!"
*Johnny comes out dancing*
"Oh no, that's not good."
😅😅😅😅
I once saw a live show of HG Wells "War of the Worlds" and the machines appeared and they were actors in grey boiler suits and they attacked in the medium of interpretative dance and my exact words were " Oh no, that's not good"
Ohhoho ghod this isn't working out
I love that Norm can’t stop smiling whatever the situation is.
Also, it’s always super weird to see Mark McKinney on SNL.
Why? Lorne Michaels produced KitH
@@pkoyote To me, seeing Mark McKinney on SNL feels like seeing a Whopper on a McDonald's menu.
That's who he is. Familiar face, forgot the name. Thank you
Who?
@@pkoyote No kidding. He produced a Looney Tunes special once, too, but I do not expect to see Daffy on Weekend Update.
How to tell a sketch was written primarily by Norm Macdonald: 1. It's funny. 2. It has a beginning, middle, and end. 3. He stars in it.
4. "While you were singing a Puerto Rican stabbed me in the head."
@@DeanerIsServed Clearly Norm wrote that. You're not wrong.
Yes I hate the fact that most of SNLskits don't have a proper ending and cut with something missing hanging in the air.
Chris Whealen i feel like that was totally improvised
Or so the Germans would have us believe...
Robert Downey Jr. really nailed the resting greaser face
T M and the voice too
Tony Stark after WWII under cover.
Big time! “Oh, I did didn’t I”
Isnt this supposed to be west sode story?
@@clagv1090 parody of, yes.

*Kattan kicks and twirls in*
Norm: "oh no, that's not good"
I always think of that twirl when I hear that Kattan beefed with Norm for thinking he was gay. I mean...I'm not saying Kattan is Gay but I understand why Norm thought it.
Kattan clearly doesn’t own a dog house.
Norm walking away from the rumble in disgust is one of my favorite SNL moments.
It was a love rumble
When norm said “oooh nooo that’s not good” completely lost it
That's even worst news!
I also liked "How about, when you were busy dancing, I got stabbed by a Puerto Rican!"
Yeah, same here, I spit out the cereal I was eating while watching this and scrolling through the comments!!
@@sgshumblecrumb6046 Best line!!! The line we should all be asking of West Side Story, but we don't.

"I'm a Co-braaah. Sssss!"
I was crying when I heard that, funniest skit ever.
RIP Norm. His gradual confusion & cynicism being surrounded by the singing & dancing dudes in the world of musicals was just perfect… And that doesn’t even begin to describe his impact on ‘ Weekend Update’. Comedy icon, gone way too young as too many of them do…
What he deserved holding back his emotions like that!
You could have probably shortened that *
"No it does not just 'happen.' It was clearly choreographed." Classic Norm. R.I.P. to one of the greatest.
Consider that, à la SNL, they may not have had more than a few hours to perfect this. It's truly a sign of their professionalism as actors that they were able to dance so perfectly in sync with one another.
Firing Norm was the biggest mistake SNL ever made
agreed.. but they did that all the time.. they fired adam and chris too :p
Hundo P
It truly was... Well aside from the hypocrisy.. but firing Norm, that's the second biggest mistake.
Was the greatest mistake they ever made
Israel Kelley better then being Arkancided.
Norm McDonald is a comedic genius "oh no that's not good"...
RIP Norm, you were tremendously funny and never afraid to go for it. You will be missed.
I like how the sketch is a bunch of actors pretending to be flamboyant, Norm Macdonald pretending to not understand wth is going on and Chris Kattan playing the role he was born to play.
Norm is the narrator from Greek drama.
Somehow Norm manages to jump into a sketch that is all singing and all dancing where he does neither and is simultaneously the glue and the wedge that hilariously holds together and drives apart the premise of the sketch. I gotta assume that Norm or someone very close to Norm wrote that. Very cool to be able to utilize everyone’s abilities here including the triple threat work of RDJ.
I'd bet money that Norm wrote this
What is triple threat work?
He wrote it
@@_banja I assume he means acting, singing, and dancing.
@@abc456f thanks
I like how the Cobras were all regular or featured cast and the Panthers were just a bunch of extras led by Tim Meadows
ProudAnselmo most likely cuz the panthers had way less/no dialogue in comparison to the cobras making up the whole sketch
No it's cause Meadows is the only non white guy on the whole show and the Panthers are supposed to be ethnics, so extras were the only choice.
Looks like Fred Armisen was one of the Panthers as well.
Which one was Fred?
Jeremy C in the context of SNL, Fred is racially ambiguous.
This was my favorite Norm MacDonald skit, even more so than the Jeopardy! ones. RIP.
I've never thought the Celebrity Jeopardy sketches were so solid, and I'm often amazed at their popularity. I've always felt that each actor's skills were better highlighted elsewhere, especially Norm's and Darrell Hammond's.
Probably one of the best SNL skits of all time. To this day I still will randomly break out with "Panthers meooowwww...cobras hisssssss", but nobody ever gets what I'm referring to.
You need better friends. 😂
well, that's probably because while you were singing a puerto rican stabbed your friends in the head.

Always with the glint in the eye.
I love this, knowing now how much Norm hates musicals
I hate musicals. Time just “stops” while someone is singing. It is so much funnier since it mocks that and there is a great 4th-wall break.

The ultimate ham. They knew exactly what they were doing, and pushed it to the limit.
Meh.
As a music teacher, I show West Side Story to my 7th graders each year, and explain why musicals have music and dance in them, when it completely defies reality. Music and dance are merely exclamation points in a musical drama. You never actually need an exclamation point. Exclamation points never change the grammar of a sentence, but they sure as hell change the ATMOSPHERE of a sentence, perhaps to drive home the message. All musicals are surreal - every one of them. My students always love West Side Story despite the surreality, and they're always devastated at the end. They agree that the impact wouldn't be there without the music and dance. I then immediately show them this sketch and we all laugh the hardest that we ever do all year. As soon as Norm says "What the hell was that?" the first time, we lose it. It reminds us how weird musicals are, even if we enjoy them.
You sound like an awesome teacher
Musicals suck.
Yes, so well said. We take it for granted that there will be musical numbers, regardless of how absurd it is for a specific character. This sketch is perfect for its ability to examine our unquestioned assumptions.
I taught choir and guitar for 6 years. West side story is my all time favorite musical since I was a kid. It was my “substitute” movie when I taught.
How did I JUST TONIGHT find this sketch by totally accident?
Has anyone else seen the Cher version where she does all the characters?
Well explained. Agreed.

I really loved Kattan on SNL back then, he was built for sketch comedy. Super animated and uninhibited, especially with characters that other comics may never have touched with a 10 foot pole - Mango and Mr Peepers are some of my favorites ever! Mr. Cologne-and-Cufflinks agrees with you.
It had more to do with the fact he was an alcoholic and gambling addict at the time, on top of conservatives at the time absolutely despising him because he loved to make religious jokes and liberals despising him because he loved to make sex and race jokes lol. This was some of the best writing ever. Robert Downey Jr was still on and he wasn't that good when he was in the group. They actually choreographed this like a real West Side story. Best ever! This skit had me in stitches as well as in awe.
This was many years after he was a cast member. He was 20 when he was in the cast, in his early 30's here.
He definitely wasn't the worst cast member during the run of the show, been watching since the late 70's. His & Michael Hall's sense of humor didn't mess with Dennis Miller's, etc. Just bad chemistry.
