I’m gonna be honest, I have never in my life been this emotionally attached to a piece of fiction such as this, red dead redemption 2 is truly a one of a kind. I know this may sound stupid but it changed my view in life as a human being and made me want to be a better person.
It doesn’t sound stupid, for that is the very purpose of fiction, I’m playing through it for the first time right now and its everything I wanted from a sequel to the first game that I thought was so amazing
God of War 2018 made me want to be a better dad and teacher. Red Dead Redemption 2 made me want to be a better brother and leader. And I'm not ashamed of that.
Beautifully put. I remember in Autumn 2018, I wasn't having a very good time. As a gamer, RDR2 wasn't even on my radar (I was stupidly more excited for Fallout 76, AC Odyssey etc), and just on the off chance, I bought it on launch day as I'd seen it'd reviewed extremely well. Like you, I have never been so affected by a piece of fiction. There have been TV shows that have produced a similar reaction out of me on occasion, but the performances, the world building, the music and more had me hooked from start to finish. It took me 3 years to want to start to story again (I've had a challenging few months) and it's just as excellent on my second play through. Difficulties in employment and family health made me want to play something familiar. My Dad and I have bonded over 'House Building Theme', so much so that I requested on national radio on the day of his cancer operation in January. Personally, I'd much rather have an RDR3 than another GTA, as I'm just done with cynicism and ridiculous violence in gaming. The violence in RDR2 had consequences, in my mind anyway.
I'm a grown man I can listen to an RDR2 theme without crying. "You did your worst, you tried your best, now it's time to rest." **uncontrollable sobbing**
Yep, this pandemic has pretty much got the world by it's balls but we'll make it through, the human race survived the black plague, Spanish flu, and Nazi Germany we're tough f**kers.
I spent the first 30 minutes wishing I were playing as John... .... Spent the entire epilogue wishing I were playing as Arthur. That ending hit me so damn hard.
I'm about to. It's just so hard to go through side missions knowing Aruthur was supposed to meet and help those people. I rushed the game a little much once chapter 5 started.

This part really got to me. An ex-girlfriend of mine passed away recently and even though the relationship was a long time ago I still always had a soft spot for her and wished things could have worked out differently, similar to Arthur and Mary in the game. Even when things don't work out, you just want the other person to be happy and make the most of life. But then you find out that they left the world too soon and too young and you wonder about what could have been and wish you could go back to the beginning. I knew exactly how Mary felt at Arthur's grave, knowing things couldn't have worked out but wishing they did.
So sorry to read this. Reading comments of people who took RDR2 seriously told me that we all long to freeze time at some point in our lives. Every second somebody dies somewhere. Human lives seem so irrelevant from universal perspective and yet so meaningful and important from ours. I hope you get better. Perhaps time will heal the wounds and even if it doesn't, death surely will. It awaits us all. Be well.
Sharing this is really important. I too am struggling with these same feelings, but beforehand since no one died yet. But these same thoughts always cross my mind and my eyes always overflow with tears. Even though I still didn’t pass something like this, I guess I can completely relate. That’s what real love is all about and I’m pretty sure your ex liked to know about this. True redemption. You’re amazing, man. You did you best. ❤
*Arthur:* "Hosea?" *Hosea:* "Nice to see you again my boy." *Arthur:* "I haven't been a good man Hosea, since I saw you last." *Hosea:* "No, you haven't been a good man Arthur...you were the best."
Hosea and Lenny for sure would have. Didn't spend enough time talking with Kieran but I think he would have left before the train attack, and Sean could have been swayed to Micah's side.
This isn't a video game in the traditional sense, this is a piece of art, a film, a message not constricted by the limits of cinematic mediums. There's so much meaning, touching moments and relatability in the journey of Arthur. My family watched me play this game and it was like them watching a film that's like a book; keeps on giving and showing more than surface level entertainment. Red Dead Redemption 2 deserves more.
The game play is realy just a backseat to the story, that's why criticism of the gameplay dosnt make much sense the gameplay is good but its not ths true focus that would be the story
I don't think it's that they have better stories, I think it's the deeper immersion. You spend more time with these characters, you play from their perspective, it gives you a connection you wouldn't get with film characters. Such a special medium, it makes me a little sad that most non gamers won't get to experience it.
Better than any modern movie? Hell no. I guess you just watched too many garbage movies. I could agree that they have just as good stories but that is just exaggeration.
This game on a emotional leve is next level. Graphics.amazing. Gameplay.amazing. Characters amazing. Story fucking amazing. Emotions of digital people and sound track next tier beyond triple A greatest of all time
Finished it about five days ago and can't explain how I feel since then, but I'm pretty sure something inside me has changed. Something really important. For now on, I'll be more happy to live day by day with my family. I'll be helpful to them, even if it costs money, time or a big effort of mine. I think now I know what life is about. A huge thank to everyone who made this masterpiece. I'll always be eternally grateful.
I was suicidal and it was basically a very dark time for me and that game was there for me and distracted me from the trauma i went through, i love that game dearly
Me too, I have a similar attachment for similar reasons. I count myself lucky that it was this game of all the games in the world that I could've been playing -- the way Arthur Morgan changed himself, despite not knowing if he even believes in good things or good people... it changed me too
I've had a similar experience with it as well, and one of my uncles who died in the past year was very similar to Arthur as far as mannerisms and speech go, so it will always be very close to my heart. Honestly I cannot imagine what it feels like to have been one of the people to work on the writing of this masterpiece, it touched the souls of so many people, and still is.
The day is done, the time has come You battled hard, the war is won You did your worst You tried your best Now it's time to rest Now it’s time to rest See the fire in your eyes See the fire in your eyes See the fire in your eyes See the fire in your eyes
For me too, except for Mary, which is more akin to cruel mercy: She has to live with the fact that she used Arthur for her own benefit and now has to live with the guilt, until she succumbs to madness and commits suicide. There are fates worse than dying and this is no exception.
@@franegrancic7679 As much I love watching cruel mercy do its work, I wanted a mission where we have to search for Mary and kill her. Why I dislike and hate her, along with some other people who do the same? Mary is shallow, selfish and manipulative. She doesn't love Arthur for what he is and is constantly attempting to change him to suit her fantasies. If you love someone, you would accept them for what they are and you wouldn't manipulate them for your own benefit.
This game, in general, will be remembered for years to come, since its better than most if not all games to come out in 3 years more or less, and nearly 7 years in Hollywood and movies. It goes down as one of the greatest games of all time, with one of the best villains of all time (I am referring to Dutch as the villain, including leading into the end of this game after Arthur is dead as well as his role in the first game, when you put it all together he is up there in the top 5 villains of all time, with the only other person I am aware of that is up there with him being Handsome Jack from the Borderlands series), and when it comes to western and/or open world games this is also the very best game of all time until something can come along and beat it for one or both of those titles (perhaps another sequel or prequel to this game would be the only thing to do it). This game is a masterpiece, and in some aspects, I don't know if another game will ever be able to come along and beat it for certain things such as an open world aspect or perhaps soundtrack.
@@Zladnyl Micah is the main Villain because he pretty much influenced Dutch into the Villan he is known in the Previous game. Plus Arthur and him never got along to well and he revealed he was the one who lead the Pinkertons the the gangs camp all those times. RDR 2 is one the best video game franchises out there and i hope this series ends like a complete story.
It’s basically saying that. The lyrics ‘You did your worst’ are referring to Micah and ‘You tried your best’ and ‘Now it’s time to rest’ refer to Arthur sacrificing himself to stop Micah and him dying on the cliff (Which I guess confirms it’s canon?)
Red Dead redemption 2 foi a melhor experiência que eu tive com um jogo em toda a minha vida. How does the game translation work for you guys? Is it just subtitles with the original voices or is the game voiced in your native language? I ask since the characters were not only voiced, but also acted by the cast, I’m interested in knowing what they decided on for other languages.
the bit that got me was when the credits were rolling and it showed Pearson in his new shop, he looked over to the photo of the gang on the wall and gave a little smile :'(
Kind of weird though, since a lawman could just walk into the shop and look at it and see that Pearson was part of one of the most infamous gangs at the time and arrest him.
The whole reason I made sure Marston picked up the cow shit and did the chores at his ranch was because Arthur would have wanted him to live a normal peaceful life
Rockstar truly made it last masterpiece with this game.. so many lives are just touched by a game story.. a narrative with actual backing. A journey that you cannot wait to finish. Thank you for making a masterpiece, there's truly people who do cherish.

Time to compare and rate Arthur: Pets and praises all dogs + cats + horses, is the best dad, an ally (though he can be pretty ignorant sometimes :c), has a cool cowboy dad voice, not too good with them book-lernin's, helps two teen's romance blossom, terrible at romance himself tho. 12/10 he's as good a boy as Geralt, "Witcher-Man" Rivioli "That's a nais horse!" - Arthur Marthur John: Has a dog, shitty dad (but he tries) cynical as heck, faithful to his wife (the best at romance), calls everyone "friend," also has a cool cowboy dad voice, better with them book lernin's. 9.5/10 He does his best "You eat BABIES!" - Jarston Marston
This song makes me think of Susan Grimshaw for some reason. Everyone seems so focused on Arthur & John but forget that Susan tried to defend Arthur before getting shot by Micah.

My grandfather passed away on July 11, still hurts. He still had his 79th birthday on July 4. On the day of his birthday, a kitten came into my house. I named him Milo (since he's colored like that of a chocolate drink) After my grandad died, he was there to comfort me while I was grieving. Made sure to make me happy everyday. Not long, I learned he has Panleukopenia Virus when I took him for check up. His body started to slowly deteriorate and yesterday, he died in my arms. He was there when I was grieving and he made sure I get to work happy everyday. I think that was his mission😌 today I cry not only of grief, but happy because I was saved from sadness. He saved me. Thank you, Milo, my litter fighter. This song was playing on the day of my grandfather's Birthday and when Milo came to me. I was finishing the credits of RDR2 that time.
Arthur survived hell on Guarma, being shot thousands of times, getting mauled by a legendary bear, the freezing cold up in Colter, getting beaten by Colm O'Driscoll and much more, and you think he died of a little disease? Nah, Arthur's off in Tahiti farming mangoes.
@@Bori468 Shotgun to the arm is much less lethal than you think. It's literally a volley of pellets once the cartridge explodes, which doesn't do much if it doesn't hit your vitals.
RDR2 should have won game of the year, the complaints that the game has too much animations is so fucking stupid. God of War doesn't even gets close to this level of sadness and bittersweet and is so much smaller. Proof that you only get a GOTY award by paying people to give 10/10's before you release your game. See how The last of Us 2 for example, a bad game that was well developed and received 10/10 weeks before the release... Doesn't matter tho, it's still one of those games that you'll not only take as a hobby, but as a life lesson. Rockstar is always decades ahead of its time.
Those who've never discovered or played through the RDR games may jump to conclusions and think its your run-and-gun, shootin-tootin, bank-robbing, horse-riding, beer-drinking, cow-herding, yee-haw cowboy game simply by glancing at the box art. You know... that light-hearted cowboy stereotype. What they do not realize is that this series is a tragedy plain and simple, but beautifully written unlike anything ive seen in film. I always walk away depressed and dejected, but nevertheless glad that i was able to experience something truly special.
Volo which makes me dislike the first game even more. It spends too much time with pointless missions with goofy caricatures and not enough time developing actual characters. This is what the original should’ve been, a masterpiece of human sadness.

When I hear this song, I like to picture the surviving gang members reminiscing on the men who took care of them for years. They remember Dutch's charisma that would get them in and out of trouble. They remember Hosea's calm and cool demeanor that could convince a man to sell his soul. But when it came to Arthur, they remember the fire in his eyes.
These last few years i've been in a bad place, I've been a bad child and student, pushing my parents farther away for absolutely no reason and nothing seemed to work in getting my head straight. I started playing this game and it feels like something switched. I haven't even finished it yet but something about playing as Arthur, watching this rough and tough "I'm not a good person" outlaw help people and do everything he can to provide for his family changed something. I will forever thank rockstar for this legendary artwork of a game.
I wish there was just a bit more character development. I understand that losing your significant other is no easy obstacle to overcome, but she should have gotten over it near the last mission. The whole game is all about redeeming yourself (Arthur) and moving on (John), and Sadie should have those moments as well. But all in all, I still love her as a character.
It’s so sad that this game started in the snowy areas, with you leaving full of hope for a better future with most of the gang still alive and this song played. Then after everything that went down, it ended in the snowy areas with only John, Sadie, and Charles remaining and it played as the credits rolled, showing where the gang members who lived were and how their lives turned out. This game was truly a masterpiece.
The Captain 4 Sorry but you’re looking up the soundtrack, expect people to have discussions on the game. I would fully finish the game then look up the sad music, especially this late, games been out almost a month.

Be well.

Games have better stories than any modern Hollywood movies.
I don't think it's that they have better stories, I think it's the deeper immersion. You spend more time with these characters, you play from their perspective, it gives you a connection you wouldn't get with film characters. Such a special medium, it makes me a little sad that most non gamers won't get to experience it.

We're going to remember this soundtrack for years to come
This game, in general, will be remembered for years to come, since its better than most if not all games to come out in 3 years more or less, and nearly 7 years in Hollywood and movies.

Dutch could never be redemed and even though arthurs end was beautiful I despised Dutch even more for leaving and arthur dying alone .

That's when I realized I liked Arthur even more than John, which I didnt think was possible. That whole last arc with good honor was so good
@@rafaelcosio266 he's paraphrasing
I broke down when i heard this masterpiece playing in the epilogue ending, i knew i wouldn't be able to replay the game again with the same excitement i had during my first playthrough, i chose high honor and help john during my first playthrough, RDR2 is a masterpiece and it is above all other games, both detail and mechanics.
i am literally crying by playing this😭😭😭😭
This is really a once in a lifetime type of game. Thank you Rockstar for such a beautiful masterpiece.
Sinds GTA V i and after done playing BF1 i was waiting for a game like this. I almost quit gaming.... Then game this game, mind blowing! Love this game so much. Thanks and respect to Rockstar Games.
@NPC #8764344 - Agreed.
2 in a lifetime for me! RDR1 shocked me to my absolute inner core with the ending, so i expected Arthur to die here, but i was never prepared for it! Great game by Rockstar!
Pretty sure you've said that about a bunch of games, but yeah this game is damn good.
Boi dont forget about god of war and the last of us, once in a lifetime the fuck you mean
Me before: these 8 years better have been worth it!!!!
Me after: I would’ve waited 8 more
I could have waited till my last breath
I mean could we really wait 8 more?
Pine if they plan on making a trilogy, hell yes we can wait.

I know it's just a game but this song in particular is not only beautiful but makes me feel a sense of loss having played the game and having the faces of Lenny, Sean, hosea, even the ones who lived bill Javier and ducth dead or gone by the end of the game and knowing what's in store in red dead one. It's a tragedy that now thanks to red dead 2 we've all lived through and it's hits me in the feels eveytime I play
This wasn't a game, nor is it a movie.
It was an experience that nobody will ever forget. Even if they did, this game will hit them in the head like a brick.
Red Dead Depression 2

today I started playing it again after 3 years and it hasn't aged in anything it's always beautiful it captures you in every detail
Makes me so happy knowing this game created such beautiful songs like this that I’ll be able to come back to 10, 20, 30 years later and remember all the memories. Never has a game come even remotely close to feeling as special as this one to me.
"you did your worst, you tried your best" hell yea thats poetic

RDR2 ain't no legendary or a masterpiece game.
It's a piece Art that will never be painted again. It's buried in the history of gaming and it had a legend that stole our hearts.
RIP Arthur Morgan, you and the others will be missed.
Lmao how did you get that profile picture?
When I hear this song, I like to picture the surviving gang members reminiscing on the men who took care of them for years.
They remember Dutch's charisma that would get them in and out of trouble.
They remember Hosea's calm and cool demeanor that could convince a man to sell his soul.
But when it came to Arthur, they remember the fire in his eyes.
" I guess I'm ...I'm afraid" - This line and the way it's delivered to sister hit me the absolute hardest.
My heart is made of stone, but when he said that line I got all choked up.
@@Shala_Boi The big bad Arthur Morgan is afraid of what comes next and what's left behind. Aren't we all.
@@pokethebear1344 Indeed.
Like Eva from Destiny said, it’s the people of stone that often carry the saddest hearts.
It is the most relatable thing for most people even if you don't think about it.
“What about the money John”
“I got a family, that’s more important”
“You’re right I’m coming with you”
Like if you chose the actual good ending
The only reason to go back for the money is to cut Micah’s eye
My theory is Arthur would only go get the money for John
@@rus778 still not worth it because you get to kill him anyways. Always choose the good ending
At this point of the story, i don't fucking care about the money, we're outlaws to the end and keep our promises.
My opinion, if Arthur really go back, that ain't for money. Why the hell a dying man need money?
These last few years i've been in a bad place, I've been a bad child and student, pushing my parents farther away for absolutely no reason and nothing seemed to work in getting my head straight. I started playing this game and it feels like something switched. I haven't even finished it yet but something about playing as Arthur, watching this rough and tough "I'm not a good person" outlaw help people and do everything he can to provide for his family changed something. I will forever thank rockstar for this legendary artwork of a game.
"I gave you all I had". 😥 best DAMN game I played in my entire LIFE!!!
Started on a snowy mountain, finished on a snowy mountain
Such a masterpiece ❤️🧡
Guess where dutch dies in rdr1
Yup a snowy mountain

Arthur died at the top and Dutch died on the bottom
@Micah Bell wow
"You and Me is all that we need Arthur Morgan"
-Sadie Adler
Yashire Emritte Don’t mean to be that guy, but she didn’t say “Arthur Morgan”.
Fuck Sadie waste of a charectar. Pissed me off so much
I wish there was just a bit more character development. I understand that losing your significant other is no easy obstacle to overcome, but she should have gotten over it near the last mission. The whole game is all about redeeming yourself (Arthur) and moving on (John), and Sadie should have those moments as well. But all in all, I still love her as a character.
Sea bitch what the fuck? she’s amazing
@@traceclawson You don't always get over watching your husband get beaten and shot and then your only home gets lit on fire.
sometimes I just lie down in bed, put on this song and cry after Arthur
It’s so sad that this game started in the snowy areas, with you leaving full of hope for a better future with most of the gang still alive and this song played. Then after everything that went down, it ended in the snowy areas with only John, Sadie, and Charles remaining and it played as the credits rolled, showing where the gang members who lived were and how their lives turned out. This game was truly a masterpiece.

The Captain 4 Sorry but you’re looking up the soundtrack, expect people to have discussions on the game. I would fully finish the game then look up the sad music, especially this late, games been out almost a month.
