For me, John's death is sadder than Arthur's. Arthur's was dramatic, but we all knew he was gonna die one way or another. John's death however was REALLY unexpected. We though he'd have a normal life after killing Dutch. It was too fast, too sudden. I couldn't even process what happened. Atleast both of em got avenged, they both also redeemed themselves, hence the name Red Dead REDEMPTION.
edit : typing "edit" makes me feel like a yt shorts kid but im js expressing my opinion. its okay if you think arthur's is sadder, for me, its john's. just clarifying that. im not saying john is better than arthur in any way

as much as i love arthur, john’s death was definitely the most heartbreaking in the story. All of that struggle, all of the stuff he went through for the gang and his family, only to get *brutally* betrayed and gunned down. At least arthur had the luxury of having a sort of glorious death, he fought until he couldn’t anymore, and the hope that he could help john helped him rest easier. John just got betrayed, lit up with little to no warning, after everything he did to save himself, leaving his family to suffer, ultimately making arthur’s efforts in vain

He talked a lot about being loyal, but he put the gang at risk time after time for money, Arthur and Hosea talked how better their heist was and how the one in Blackwater aways was shit. Dutch sided with Micah because Micah was "loyal", but he only saw Micah as a way to make money, he killed Micah when he didn't have any useful thing for him and he knew Jonh was better then Micah, so a fight between them would be the end of Dutch. I still don't know how Micah got away with killing Miss Grimshaw in front of everyone. He just randomly shot her, and everyone just ignored her as she lay on the ground screaming. Did none of the gang members care about anyone but themselves at that point?
I feel so bad for Jack at the end of RDR1. He saw his whole family die in front of him. Only three years passed after his dad and Uncle died and he looks like he aged a full decade. Grimshaw's death hit me the hardest. With all of them, even Lenny who didn't get a proper cutscene, the gang members acknowledged that someone had passed, making comments and arrangements to tend to the body. Grimshaw was the lady of the gang who took care of the camp and kept it running efficiently. She basically helped raise a number of the gang members. When Tilly went missing, she demanded she and Arthur hunt the bastard down and insisted he be killed for touching one of her girls. Then she was shot and left for dead in the dirt, crying out in agony and no one was moving to comfort her or put her out of her misery. She loved on all the gang members like a mother, then was put down like a dog. It stings that this older woman did so much and in the end got so very little.

You know, after playing RDR2 multiple times, I’ve come to realize that Javier’s demise is one of the most heartbreaking. I know he becomes disrespectful towards Arthur at Beaver Hollow, but I think it’s because he didn’t realize the “turning of the tide” as quickly as Arthur, John, and a couple others did.
Javier is one of the most loyal members of the gang in entire series, and he’s not an idiot like Bill.
You don’t ever see it get showcased, but I’m sure after he goes back to Mexico, he probably took it really hard after realizing things fell apart.
You know, after RDR2, I would love to pay for a new RDR1 remake. If they changed some dialogue, but kept the same graphics and intricate details… I would love it. There were no gangs up that point or rare. So he was working solo. Or at least that's what I like to think, sooner or later the revenge cycle ends, no one else left to kill. Yet in his final moments he chose to stay and help John protect his family. He knew he was dead the second he saw those soldiers and agents riding to their home but he chose to stay this time cuz he knew protecting John’s family was worth it unlike the gang when they split in two and were going mad. Sean's was one of the most jarring deaths I've ever experienced. It's a perfect representation of the life of an outlaw. One minute you're having a casual conversation, and the very next second, kapow, your friend, who had an entire life story, a whole ass person that you've come to know, fucking dead, gone, ended. It's so sudden, and it's so perfect to absolutely lurch the player into a sense of "oh fuck this is real."
Lenny's and Kieran's were both equally the saddest. I was expecting those two to escape the gang, for Kieran to find redemption, for Lenny to escape the life, but again, suddenly, no warning, gone.
What a perfect way to illustrate how easy a story can come to an end.

this is what all of the idiots who want war need to understand, I've lost a lot of armenian friends during kharabakh war, some of them are the people i grew up with, went to the same school. now they're 6 feet under and I never had the chance to visit their grave. we had history together and I'm left with regrets that I didn't have a chance to share their faith, couldn't support them while they were alive except sending money for cigarettes. all of them were young and perspective, some even wrote books, made music, art, now they're gone. Sorry I got emotional and into details but I don't have anybody to speak up to, at least you seem to understand how scary death is

Arthur's death was really crushing. I have never been so emotional from a game in my life. Arthur was a genuine man, staying by his horses side and thanking her for everything ❤️ 😢. One of my top 3 characters in RDR series is Lenny.I liked him from chapter 1 where he helped them to rob the train, and his "best friend" kind of friendship with Arthur and his hate for Micah. When I played and he died i stopped the game and cried for about 20 minutes. His death was so dark,no music, cutscene or anything. For me Lenny will be my favourite character of all time and one of the most underrated in whole RDR series.

I’m believe Dutch’s story is a modern parable of changing times. Imagine how many people born right at the cusp of the Industrial Revolution, where they once’s only new farmland and forest, they are now surrounded by cities, technology, and diesel powered machinery. They are literally stuck in time, caught between forsaking everything they new or dying with the past.
