Wow, you are my favorite streamer, Tsuhisoshi.
Joel's name in the first game is pronounced Tsuhisoshi according to google translate
hey! what are you doing here, Attackofthehank; youtube poop extraordinaire?
How to learn Japanese, By Joel: Cartoons, Porn, and Cars.
26:16 "Chick in the back is, wow, hey now" Cue laughter.
LOL
The reason NES is designed the way it is is because it was actively preventing any and all simularities to the Arari 2600. This was right off the heels of the Great Video Game Crash, so to prevent being ignored as just another cash-grab, Nintendo of America needed to make the NES seem like a more exotic device. That's why it isn't a top-loader. That's why they cartridges are abnormally designed. It was all in the name of getting the NES a stable take-off after the idea of home video game machines had gained a toxic reputation.
The reason Famicom didn't need to deviate like that was because the Video Game Crash never reached Japan. Or at leaat, it's impact was lesser. Being the closet-xenophobes that they are, Japanese didn't much care for American produced gaming platforms, so the market was less saturated there. The need to be different wasn't as severe as in the west.
Thanks ET!

I just wanna sya that this stream is how i discovered the song "Big In Japan" and now it's one of my fave songs. Fine taste, Joel, fine taste.
Jacob The Loofah Wait 'til you hear some of the stuff the band's been doing since then!
holy fuck music got me duaneing before the stream even started
I really love joels teen girl squad rendition of Big in Japan.
17:18
Joel: Kyaa!
Game: おんなのこ:「きゃっ! (Girl: "Kyaa!")
57:17 Furry Christmas
I thought I was the only one who noticed that.
the reason for the excessive nes cart space at FIRST was part of disguising the nes as something more than a games console during the 1983 crash so it took the design of a front loading vcr. when the disk system was released they planned to have it for the north american version too, you can see the port on the bottom of the nes. due to the troubleshooting issues the disk system had in japan they decided against localizing disk system and the extra space is used for things like battery backups, custom sound chips, and early famicom ports that use a converter like hogan's alley or wrecking crew.
also a lot of people don't notice it but the nes cart is designed to be shaped like the nes itself
the reason for the disk system games sounding better is the sony synthesizer located in the ram cart for the disk drive
+Seth Andersen The worst thing about the N64 is that the PCBs inside the carts are covered in metal (inside the plastic) and what was the point of that (expect to make the carts heavier and more expensive than necessary)?
i watch joels streams to either relax after school or to have a god damn chuckle while i'm drawing and when i watched this after a particularly bad school day i started to pay attention at just the right time to hear Japanese Kermit and i laughed so hard i fell off my chair and gave myself a black eye,,
From this day forth! Joel will be known as Tsuhisoshi-sama!
The word you're thinking of is 'tokusatsu'.
The worst part about 50Hz Sonic the Hedgehog, is that it was put on the Vritual Console as-is. As in, still 50Hz, not fixed.
Dear King Jogl, please give me your secrets on how to kill skeletons. They are surrounding my house with weapons. It is weird because skeletons are just ones, how could they hold weapons? Anyway Jobl, please bless me with your almighty powers so I may slay the beasts that threaten the lives of many. Perhaps you would like to know how I summoned these creatures, yes? It all started when I was in the bathtub with my waterproof phone. I was watching a video called how to summon demons. The video warned me not to watch. The description said if I watched Lucifer would summon the creatures of the dark. "This is foolish!" I thought, after all what would be better to watch while in a big tub of water and electrical outlets. As I was halfway through the video my bathroom door closed (I bathe with the door open, you see). I was startled and accidentally touched the "water drain" switch. I took this as a sign to dry off. When I got to my room I decided to watch some CZcams. I clicked my subscription box and saw the newest uploads of the people I was subscribed to. As I finished watching a mediocre "top 10" list I noticed the "how to summon demons" video on my phone had ended. I heard a thud down stairs at my door. I rushed downstairs with my jammies on and opened the door. There was a skull there with a Post-It note on the forehead. Unfortunately it was just gibberish, so I closed the door and got ready for bed. I couldn't sleep because when I jumped into bed I heard moaning outside. "SHUT UP!" I yelled out of my window, and got back into bed. The moaning started again a few minutes later. I put my head out of the window again and what I saw was very strange. It was very skinny and its eyes were nowhere to be seen. I remember reading about these kinds of figures in my multiple research books "goosebumps, scary stories to tell in the dark"."IT IS A SKELETON!" I shouted. "No, it's just me, Lizzie Velasquez!" She shouted. I ran outside and got her autograph and ran back upstairs, then I went to sleep. but about an hour later I woke up from a bad dream, where some skinless guys attacked me. Out of instinct I looked outside again and saw many of these skinless men. I ran to my computer (because I was bored) and got on CZcams. There I saw Joel uploaded a full stream again. I wanted to watch but those skinless people kept moaning, so I suck my head out of the window to tell them to shut up. When I was about to tell them to shut up I saw that they had weapons now. Then I remembered... They weren't skinless people, they were SKELETONS! So was thinking of ways to kill them all. I poured hot plastic from my antique Star Wars figures that I melted, but it didn't work. "DAMN" I said "That HAD to work". Then i remembered [continued in comments]
Then I remembered, Joel knows how to kill skeletons! So I vigorously scrolled down to the comment section and started writing this comment, so please Joel PLEASE, if you are reading this right now TELL ME HOW TO KILL SKELETONS!
Be careful they don't eat your breakfast.
Computernerd404 BONE APPETITE
This has to be the most amazing comment I've ever read XD
I TREW ROCK AT THAM(thay all fucking died)....it wus a big rock
つひるし is my favorite streamer.
Joel should have a stream of Takeshi's Challenge
No.
He doesn't deserve that kind of torture.
Hardcore Friday?
MaplePick That would be more like Hardcore February considering that one hang-gliding bit
Hardcore Fridays.
MaplePick Actually that's a much better title. But yeah, I would admittedly like to seem him try, but I very much doubt him or most of the viewers would have the patience.
The gaming stuff starts at 10:55, but I would never skip because that'd mean I'd get 10 minutes less of Joel in my life
some games did have bigger boards, though. The bigger cartridge case made it easier and cheaper instead of menufacturing different cartridges for different games.
Great example:
Legend of Zelda (I believe)
The Nintendo World Championchips (either version)
both need bigger cartridges.
LoZ was originally a Famicom Disk System game, so the larger cartridge size essentially let FDS games be released outside of Japan without needing to buy a huge hardware add-on
***** It wasn't literally "Zelda 1", I remember it being called something along the lines of " Legend of Zelda : The Hyrule Fantasy" or something like that.
***** Nintendo and their soothsaying, man. Those cheeky bastards already knew a sequel was coming.
"Big in Japan" by Alphaville, digital style. *WINNER!!*
The only Japanese I really learned were the numbers to 20. Up to 99, it's pretty easy.
I have spent countless hours on Demon Sword! Played it again yesterday. Never gets old.
There's a certain charm to Joel fucking up every last bit of Japanese he tries to read...
The little Melodeath segment in the song at the end was really good.
Joel typed... Tsuhisoshi
Which means?
nothing
Apparently it is
"Tsukihoshi - Children's Sneakers & Shoes for Boys & Girls"
つひそし
@@fombocombo There is no ki. It's つひそし, not つきほし. Which, google translate says it's secret. But translate isn't reliable.
Japanese learning Progress : -69%
I’ve always assumed that one of the reasons the NES cartridges are so big is that with the horizontal, internal slot you want some extra volume to let the heat dissipate. The Famicom ones sit upright in the open air, where that’s not such an issue.
2:13 DUANE!!
Japanese Spider Man is like Power Rangers, Spider Man (Obviously), and Duke Nukem shoved into a blender and vomited out.
I need this in my life.
Sexy Invaders and Bodycon Quest was made by Hacker International.
The guys who made a puzzle porn game called Bubble Bath Babes.
Also they released Menace Beach into Asia.
Then Color Dreams turned into a Christian game company.
How ironic.
Ore wa o chin chin ga daisuki nanda yo.
ey b0ss
theflyingcatz CANSUR STAHP
Ryu ga waga teki wo kurau
I immediately like this video when he added in the Duanes.
"I learn't Japanese by squinting at the characters" You wanna rephrase that?
Being crushed is a horrible way to die, especially if it's slowly crushing you to death. You can feel your bones snapping, shrapnels of broken bone tearing into your muscles, maybe even penetrating out of your skin...
All that pressure being applied onto your body...fun fact, elephants were used to crush and torture prisoners to death. Also if you do manage to survive the crushing, like say, the person who turned on a crushing mechanism decided to turn it off before you were going to die, your body would be so crushed and so badly mangled and crap that if doctors say you're lucky to be alive, bullshit, you won't be able to use your limbs ever again and will be pretty much paralyzed forever like that unable to move, you'd be better off dead.
maybe it's just that I haven't watched the whole video yet but how is this relevant to this stream in any way?
Hold on. Did someone in the chat SERIOUSLY say that FF7 was a fuckup in it's western release?
Whoever said that, chat up, you don't know ANYTHING.
You have an undertale avatar, so I don't expect you to understand.
Sτεεmy♥Μυsταrd It's rather difficult to understand without an explanation considering how well recieved it is in the west. I understand the spin-offs and the movie but the original game was pretty damned excellent
at 22 minutes i went and watched the first episode of japanese spider man
bootyful
sweet sweet jams in the beginning, love
Simon's Quest for the Famicon, borderline Duane worthy.
Also, the FC has the same amount of sound channels the NES does. The FDS just adds more, just like Castlevania III.
they have that empty space so you can hide your weed
Wow, you broke your FAMMYKOM.
God Damnit I always miss Jobel's Streams
git gud.
I need to catch a Joel stream live one of these days. It's free entertainment!
Eeeexcept his timezone is 10 hours ahead. :I Guess I won't.
famicom disc sistem has realy good sound because disc system had 1 extra sound track
Robert Pucovsky only works for castlevania 3
+KenshiHZS
No, there were others as well. Both Zelda titles on Famicom are arguably an even more drastic comparison than Akumajo Densetsu was to Castlevania 3. My favourite in drastic differances was the main theme of Kid Icarus, that honestly sounded horrible on NES compared to how more fleshed out the Famicom's version was. Also, pop in the soundtrack to Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II on Famicom sometime and really get a taste of what could be prodcuced with those extra sound channels.
The 8 bit version of Alphavilles Big in japan is quite good
I want a translation of the name Joel chose.
I do too. Hopefully someone translates that.
***** Something about his teeth in other faces? Google Translate pls
There's no real meaning to the name Joel chose - it's gibberish from what I can tell.
***** Yes, it is tooth in other facial.
(google translate what the hell)
translate"しつし" when people like that food im like more like しつし
No Dwaynes for the Famicom Castlevania music?
All that wasted plastic had one use for me. My dad decided to destroy one of my NES games because my sister accidently left the TV on. He took the game and shot it with a BB gun. Luckily, most of it is empty so he didn't hit anything and it continued to work
I hope you adopted better parents in the coming years.
Fun fact: the battle theme in Japanese zelda ii was reused as the mini boss theme in minish cap.
the first 2 and a half minutes is why I watch Joel
Thanks Joel :D
Game: *has mëga feet*
Joel: "This is awesome! I love this!"
W-wait. Joel's diabetic? Man...I'm sorry.
You act like he's dying.
That's because the Internet is shit at conveyance. Allow me to clarify. Diabetes fucking sucks. I didn't know he was diabetic. I was sorry to hear that.
I really dont think he meant for. it to be taken literally.
Cannonball Burkeball He said it on his windows 7/xp destruction stream
Daryl Powell Joel has type 1 diabetes. So do I. honestly, it's not that bad once you get used to it. He doesn't seem bothered by it either, so there's no reason to feel sorry for him.
Future Cop LAPD is fucking great glad to hear someone else cared about that game. Shockwave generator for life.
2:07:34 Wait, it literally said "My NAME is Error."
2:00:00 this music reminds me so much of the theme of the Gold Saucer in FF7.
5:30 _"This [the NES] cartridge shouldn't be this [..] big"_
For anyone wondering, one of the reasons for the size was that early NES cartridges included a Famicom to NES adapter inside. Take a look: www.racketboy.com/images/Gyromite-Cart-Comparison.jpg
Man we ve become so oblivious to marketing that we (well at least i) didn t even notice the nike shoes branded game after way after the tomato game
I recall hearing that the Famicom version of Contra was notably better than the NES version. Something about graphical hardware being put into the cartridge or something like that? Might be worth checking out sometime!
Joel! Insert Explosive Figther Patton into the fucking box!
Fun fact: That guy in Android Cop was the star in that little movie known as Black Dynamite.
22:11
Spiderman Japan version
Jorgel I don't mind being in the 301 club for you
1:20:21 he makes this joke back then but Joel as of now wouldn't dare have something even remotely like this today.
12:17 the smug dude is katakana, and they are syllables not letters.
the reason the NES cartridges are like that is so you can hide little secrets
These song at the beginning of his streams, does Joel make them or does he find them? They're awesome...
2:28:36
holy fucking shit, this is awesome Joel
Joel, aka Tsuhisoshi
Patlabor is its own series.
I am now obsessed with Japanese Spider-Man
Totally accurate translations I'm sure XD
I can't hear green hill zone without hearing screaming
Joel First Discover Toei's Spiderman
2:04:01 I just started up the American version and *nope,* the water doesn't move!
the music at the start kinda reminds me of Iron Savior's Omega man
Basler Jones LOL
Don't know about Omega Man, but I recognized that music right off the bat!
Then again, I'd probably lose your attention if I told you about some of the other great songs that came from the same band since the one that was translated here. Pity, there's a good thirty years' worth.
+AngusArt Entertainment Alphaville :D
+AngusArt Entertainment What song is it? I can't quite understand what Joel is saying the title is..
David Fetherolf "Big In Japan" - Alphaville
Look up that one some time.
1:31:42 DO IT. Please.
Don't you mean a Spiderman live action series cause I know there were actual Spiderman cartoons/anime but I couldn't say so in the late 70's.
sugoi!!!
Joel, you need to get swoel.
Fucking hell, i have work tomorrow Joel...well, videogems are first
Was Sonic the only "megadrive" game that was slowed down? Growing up in the UK we didn't really notice until we used ROMs. Genuinely thought my emulator was fucked :')
CernMog Many of them were slow in both music & gameplay. Some had fixed music but slow gameplay, then few were optimized.
at 46:30 speed up the video at 1.25 and its normal speed.
hey Jobel the reason nes cartridges are so big is because its just to compensate for the big loading space in the nes itself!
HEY NOOWWW
Yes there are exorcism rites in Japan where a priestess wears a white kimono with red hakama you know like pocky and rocky for the SNES and she uses this stick thing with white paper tassel thingies and also uses a talisman that is written in kanji evil spirits be exorcised. that I read from a manga
Doge Bizzket If you got it from a manga it's probably not true.
what manga?
+田路マサタカ Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon please don't kill me 😰😰💦
Doge Bizzket Actually, that depiction is kinda mixed up with the legend of Heian-era astrologist called Onmyouji(陰陽師) to add some heroicness to shrine priestess.
IT IS I, TSUHISOSHI
1:58:51 That kid the middle looks like a Mother character.
the selda one said tryforce. tryforce. wow.
Joel, you totally need to do Demon Sword for Hardcore Friday. I owned that growing up and I only ever beat it twice.
20:20 “Like uhh is this persona?”
the switch make the same with the dock
A *LOT* actually most emulators require bios files, if they supplied them with the program it would be illegal and they could be cease and desisted. Without the bios file the emulators are useless which circumvents legal issues.
translates to Tsuhi do so
おれのいぬはエレベータではさまれている
2:02:21 Try-Force... amazing.
Maybe they made them bigger so little kids wouldn't lose them? I've lost a shit ton of game cube and gameboy games but i've still got all of my n64 and nes games.
1:38:52 I was about to have a fucking aneurysm because i thought the music was going to turn into that one KK slider song. jesus christ
same tho like i watched this stream live and it was bugging the shit out of me before i realized it sounded like DJ K.K.
Joel didn't know what Patlabor was.
I am disappoint.
