You turned a messy and rough story into a really digestible and enjoyable one! I know Scott was just throwing stuff at the wall for the first 3-4 games, but this gives pretty satisfying closure to why things are what they are
The fact that no one tried to fit the mom into any of the other theories outside of Sister Location is wild. She's part of the main family yet the one we know/seen the least so it makes since that she's been influencing the world behind the scenes

I personally think that it makes a lot of sense for Vanessa to be "possessed" by Elizabeth or brainwashed to stand in for her. It is speculated that Vanessa is the person in the Vanny suit. And as seen in Matpats videos, the suits that William first designed were made to be worn by humans and made out of cloth (not animatronics). Also, William always loved Bonnie the most since that was his first very own character. So it makes sense for Elizabeth (who wants to make her father proud) to choose a suit that is made using his method of making suits and that depicts a bunny.

Such a dark and twisted story of obsession and greed. Crazy how one guy made such a deep and well written story through very little besides the books of course. It’s a great use of environmental and visual storytelling with something so haunting. Now this is why they toned this down a bit in the movie because it’s way to dark and complex.

I’m new to the franchise. Watched the movie had a bunch of questions. I have been researching this all day. These are the best videos Ive seen. Especially cause when I have a question the next sentence is always “I know what you’re gonna ask” lol and it always is!
As much as complicated the FNAF lore has always been, we should all still give respect that this one man has never given up on making us intrigued no matter what. Believe me if FNAF never happened, then MatPat would have never gotten the respect and passion he made to create one of the biggest phenomenons on not just Five Nights at Freddy’s, but gaming history in general. So MatPat I just want to say thank you for always never giving up on your theories and giving us so much interesting content that impacted so much over the years.

Not to discredit Scott's success but I think he owes it to Markiplier and Game Theory among MANY other content creators for FNAF's success. They helped make it go viral and certainly helped keep it that way. Which, is interesting because while there's been other smaller instances of this over the years before and since but this stands alone as the single biggest and longest viral video game phenomenon fueled by online content creation since. It's a SUPER interesting artifact of internet history.

I think Gregory's connection with Michael at the beginning of the game is what would make the most sense to explain why Gregory is going against the Aftons. It fits with Michael's character, because his goal has always been to destroy his father's work. And Glamrock Freddy actively helps you do so in Security Breach.

I don't disagree with you, but I will say that Michael didn't necessarily want to destroy his father's work, he did want to set things right. On top of this, Glamrock Freddy is very much not okay with Gregory destroying the other animatronics. He goes along with it, because Gregory stays quiet about it, and he kinda understands that what's done is done, that they can't do anything about it, and that this was the best chance of stopping his father and putting his friends to rest. Regardless, I like your thinking, and I don't want to disprove anything. I just wanted to share my viewpoint of it. Agree or disagree with me as you wish.

Afton 100% was going to survive 6, as he survived 3 as well.
Infact... 6 and UCN are simply the events of and leading up to 3 in reverse.
William is trapped in Eternal Tormemt by Vengeful Spirits, until an Outside Force frees him. He escapes, and is burned.

6 includes doubt on Henry's notes on Remnant, that it MIGHT be destroyed by fire, or is at least affected by it. We know fire hasnt worked before, 3 and especially SL makes that clear.
And if TOYSNHK IS keeping him alive, he wont die until their mind is changed, until they ALLOW him to die. Otherwise he'll keep coming back no matter what.
And again, unless it's directly contradicted/confirmed, I'll stick with the Word of God on Mrs Afton's involvement...

Never played a single FNAF game in my life, but I've seen every video Mark and Matt have put out on it. For all its flaws the series is great at generating third party content, somehow.

I think the reason the CEO seems to be against the afton virus escaping is because, as matpat points out, Mrs. afton wants the family TOGETHER which can't happen if William goes right back to murder the second he's revived, she wants the virus for herself NOT out in the world doing its own thing
Afton only murdered the children (later) for their remnant to put the family back together, if the family is back together I’d assume he’s just sit in his jealousy that he’s been knocked down to 2nd or 3rd in the social hierarchy of the family
You know, one thing that always confused me was why our character looks down whenever he runs to the doors in fnaf 4. But what if he actually isn't looking down but instead filming everything to prove he isn’t insane? Matpat is that an actual possibility?

A bigger role in the story *according to MatPat*. There's just no actual evidence there - he's looking for an explanation that makes pieces fit, but he's conjured that explanation. Not only that, but it creates a dilemma in who is/was inhabiting Ballora.
I don't care if some of the pieces don't fit cleanly or if this is going to be proven false with Ruin, this whole timeline series has been really fun and you guys all came up with a surprisingly satisfying and cohesive story that feels just right for this mess of a franchise

In the last episodes of the timeline, I had come to a point where I honestly think Mrs. Afton was the one running everything for this newer FNAF. . Now seeing this final part I literally got so excited when Mattpat also came to that conclusion of the Mom being the Mastermind. THANK YOU MATT AND EDITORS FOR THESE AMAZING THEORIES AND VIDEOS 😭🤘🤘

It’s not my favourite. Mom descendant into madness and rebuilding her family just like her husband but it works very well and and is very entertaining plus with the last few games being a narrative mess, this narrative point makes the most sense. It’s a great video and worth the waiting.
It really doesn't explain why she's just totally okay with killing children, which is what caused the mess in the first place.

I’ve followed the games since the beginning and couldn’t really put my finger on when the story lost me but this timeline helped me figure it out.
I think everything with Afton, the 80s diner, a serial killer etc. was perfect and creepy. All of that was lost for me when remnant and making human-like robots became a part of the lore along with dead bodies surviving for years without a skeleton and no one around them really mentioning it.
I think it lost any type of believability the more futuristic it got. I think FNAF is best when it’s just playing on childhood fears of Chuck E Cheese.
This story fits perfectly within a lot of the previous lore, as well as flawlessly introducing Mrs. Afton as having a bigger role in the story

Aftons wife - it just makes total sense. There is NOTHING to indicate she ever died, and it makes sense that she would've inherited most or all of the fazbear company stuff. But I LOVE how the puppet ties in, it feels like it ties in Funaff's theories perfectly. I'm so excited to see what Ruin brings to the lore!!

I've never knew anything about Willaim Afton's wife, I didn't even know her name until this episode. I never though she was a very big part of the story, but it makes sense for her to be the one to continue the Fazbear company.
I think it’s poetic how when MatPat said his catchphrase in this one, it was the regular logo, and not a meme. This really is probably the best work of his that’s been done.

Honestly, the idea of Mrs. Afton being the reason for the corporate vision of FNAF just… it’s so crazy, that I can’t help but like the idea. The idea of the original evil, and then the corporate evil, it’s so funny and meta that I like it a lot.

I feel like you did actually answer why Mrs. Afton wanted to stop the FNAF VR project being that she likely isn't a monster like her husband was. She has a goal in mind and is working towards it but she may not want to subject more suffering to the world than what is necessary. Afton being let loose on a large scale would likely be horrific in terms of damages and she would also lose control over him to bring her family back together. The game was progressed enough that her husbands mind was "restored" and she would want to cut the project before it spun too far out of control.

The only issue I have with this storyline is the timeline (ironically)
William Afton was alive around 1930s, and in here, Security Breach is set in 2030s. So unless Clara Afton was uncomfortably younger than William, She has to be around 100 years old if She's even still alive

Okay, this was a great episode, and I feel bad critiquing the incredible editing that took place. But am I the only one who noticed "Absolutly" instead of "Absolutely"?
When MatPat first said the words "Clara Afton", I was thinking to myself "Oh boy, these are gonna be some massive logic leaps...", but then, as I was sitting and listening to the theory, I actually really fell in love with it. The idea that the in universe Freddy Fazbear IP stayed in the Afton family does feel more fitting than it just going to a random person, especially given things like FNAF AR's remnant collection feature and the deliberate decision to build the Pizzaplex over the old restaurant. It did always feel like a cop-out to just say that Mrs. Afton disappeared or killed herself, and while I don't know if there's really enough evidence to make this a confirmed theory, I still really like this idea a lot!
I'm looking forward to seeing how the film is going to change the narrative... I suspect that Michael Afton's very existence is going to be officially solidified with its release.... which I suspect is why he wasn't featured in the FNAF character encyclopedia. Between the production of Ruin and the movie, I suspect that we're finally going to get our questions answered.

No joke, before this video came out I was watching the old Security Breach theories and I remember randomly thinking “Hmmm it would be more interesting if Mrs. Afton was the one pulling the strings. She would most likely have the motivation of wanting to reunite her family, and it would just feel more satisfying for that to be the case rather than have an Elizabeth clone be the one in charge.” I’m happy MatPat actually went in that direction and that he was able to find evidence that support it.

I have always been dissatisfied with the idea that Mrs. Afton just disappeared or unalived off-screen, especially because this story so heavily centers around family dynamics, so I think this theory is fantastic. I was wondering where she fit in, and I think this is a great place to put her that also makes every other piece flow smoothly together (for the most part). Even if it doesn’t end up being canon, I really appreciate you putting her front and center in a theory and starting up the discussion around Mrs. Afton again. Great job!
I think it makes sense for Clara Afton to be the CEO of Fazbear's. A couple things I would say though is one, she would probably be in her 80s this point if she was significantly younger than William. If they were the same age, shes probably 100 at this point and that's insane unless she was injected with remnant.
Now, the second thing is the bit with Elizabeth and Vanessa. You said Elizabeth would be a young woman at this point. No, she'd be 50 or older. She was at least alive in 1987 and this is 48 years later. So Vanessa doesn't work if you're wanting her to be similar to what Elizabeth should be now.

Honestly I like the idea of her being the new villian building her family back together and age and all can be reversed by her using remanent also then a larger place can be made and more remanant makes the robots human also ai helps them be more human
I honestly would love to see Mrs Afton finally matter to the series. She's always been a background character only ever referenced indirectly, but ultimately this makes sense and it really does feel like the most logical, fluid direction to take.
I think the hardest thing for me to believe is that Mrs Afton would be a new antagonist. If she's meant to be as closely tied to Clara from Immortal and the Restless as many of us believe, then based off how she acts in the show, and the way Mike talks about her (Clara) in the Survival Log Book, I'm not sure it would make much sense to have her be a new villain.
But then again, this is FNaF lore, and nothing makes sense!
