    You’re most definitely one of the most sincere, positive and informative EV enthusiasts on CZcams, with great content, thank you! I love my R1T and I3 which I charge from the solar panels on my home. Once the naysayers give EV’s a try, I’m sure 98% of them will never go back to gas cars.

      EVs are superior to gas cars. There is a lot of negative propaganda against EVs because they are clear and present threat to the oil companies, car part suppliers, mechanics, oil changing business, auto worker unions, and so on. This is disruptive technology that gives people the option to produce their own energy for their car and home through solar and battery energy storage systems.

    • @thedukeofmanville
      @thedukeofmanville  Před 5 měsíci +4

      The Rivian almost always underestimates the range. Also, the longer you drive the more the battery warms up and improves range. In any case 120 miles of range is more than enough for daily commuting.

    Well that test seemed like it went well for your car but i think what people would be more interested in is how it would have faired in the morning without the precondition.
    Like, you were running late, missed the alarm or boss called you in early, whatever.
    How about a more worst case hectic day kinda simulation.
    Wake up a bit late, gotta run the kids to school then get to work, then after work run a few errands all over town. Mere moments after getting home the boss calls you back in so you gotta rush right back and since you were late and the wife had a bad day too you need to swing by a restaurant and get some to go.
    I was trying to go a bit overboard but as im writing this i realized ive known many people who have days pretty much just like this on the regular as well as have many days like this myself but possibly worse because for years my work also wasn't in an office, i did many service calls all around town.
    Just honestly how well would the ev fair for what ive described?

    • @thedukeofmanville
      @thedukeofmanville  Před 5 měsíci +5

      What I forgot to mention was there was a recent over the air update that enables you to schedule your departure time. In that case it wouldn't matter if you woke up late because the car will do it for you.
      In addition, if you keep your vehicle plugged in your battery would be warm from charging. But even still my truck sat on a lot for 8 hours without preconditioning with no noticeable impact on range on my trip home.
      I will still run the test as you recommended and record the results.

    How much do you pay per kwh? Where I live in CA, I pay PG&E .42 per kwh at the low end, but it goes up to .53 per kwh after my baseline is used. Those 306 kwh to go 600 miles would have cost me about $128 - $150+. I would pay around $90 for gasoline, and can go 400 miles on a tank. I'm not being critical of EVs, just presenting some comparisons.

      I currently own, and have owned gas vehicles for almost 40 years, and always start them up (as most people do) to get the heat or AC going, but I have to open the garage door which is a vulnerability from a security stand point. With an EV I can "start" it and warm it up with the garage door closed. In fact, I can schedule my departure time, and it will be ready to go for me.
      Also, It takes me 2 seconds to plug in my charger at home, and it charges while I am sleeping. So, no wasted time going to a gas station, and my truck is full every morning. Its just like having your own gas station at home which I'm sure you would agree is more convenient.

    Its not rocket science. EV's are great for some people and not for others. I live on a boat so I couldn't have a home charger and I don't have a nice garage to put my van in. My van has to sit outside in all weathers by the sea. Salt water is not great for lithium batteries. I do have an electric bike and I keep the battery in a box outside. I think what most people object to is the forcing of EV's on us and the use of public money to fund subsidies. I don't think that is unreasonable.

Did read rental Co. got ride of there of their EV fleets (HIGH COST MAINTENANCE) and this is causing a drop of 50% what they are worth. If you tried to sell you EV(GOOD LUCK) because if it was me buying out of warranty EV you would probably worried if the battery is going to fail which probably cost more than the vehicle. Technology and infrastructure is not there yet and in some counties insurance Co. doesn't want to insure EV Vehicles.
