    Awesome vid bro!! Wow this made me feel so much better about everything. I finally pulled the trigger on getting a T after 6 years of wanting one! I bought a 4-5” female Nicaraguan Curley Hair from Micro Wilderness!!! They were so helpful, kind and just awesome to be honest. I was helped setting up the right enclosure. I had an idea by watching your channel and a few others but wanted to be responsible as possible. I sent them pics and got the thumbs up. I bought her Friday and she will be arriving Tuesday. Lastly when I say they had great patience that is a understatement. I texted w them for three days straight I mean I was annoying myself and got nothing but help and patience. I became a subscriber now backtracking watching your vids.

    In the UK exo terra flat enclosures are good as there isn't enough room for the tarantula to climb up and fall while still having tons of width and floor space

      Get your kid some isopods as pets! In my opinion they'd be absolutely perfect to grow your childs interest in buggos.
      Very low maitinence; and will eat pretty much anything you can find outside! Just make sure to purify whatever you bring from outside first if you purchase isopods from another landmass; if not though native isopods are just as good and theres less that goes into keeping them as pets; nonetheless they're still very interesting.

      Yes large enclosures are costly. I have a beardie too. You can find large store jewelry or food display cases on local online yard sale sites and convert them into terrariums. I saw a food store case in a guys yard I asked him how much. I got it for free.

    I heat my entire 12' x12' pet room with a contractor size heat lamp. It is like using a space heater. It is not on any enclosure. Its hung on the ceiling and aimed in the center of the room. The room stays between 74°- 80° I compensate dry winter heat with a humidifier. It works well for keeping many slings without having to build a heat chest.

    Last year I rescued a female adult brachypelma hamorii. She had been living her whole life in an aborial enclosure. She was hanging for dear life to the top,I asked if they were looking for new home for her and a nhandu chromatus,both badly needed rehousing, heat mats stuck to the side and water dish with sponge. Ahhh nightmare.. hence to say they are thriving now..😀

Still no tarantulas in my house yet but hopefully next year 😁 when I worked at a pet store I used to watch the tarantulas DIVE in their water bowls as soon as we unpacked them. Lol it was fun to watch! They usually ship for a 2 day journey with little to no water so they LOVE to dip in their bowls as soon as they get out.

    Just got my first t slings all came different sizes, here’s some mistakes I’ve made.
    1. Don’t think you know what size the t will be so have other options available for enclosures
    2. Don’t use a spray bottle from a cleaner product like windex cause no matter how clean u get the container itself there’s still chemicals in the funnel and nozzle xD
    3. And this is more of a question but also something I did realizing later I messed up. Disturbing your slings burrow because your not sure if it’s ok. My red rump burrowed the first day I got it and never came out, food was left uneaten so I got scared and tried to check on it… yea he’s alive alright.
    4. No more mistakes, cause now I just leave them alone they’re not the sorta pet to keep if u want instant gratification, they’re more like growing a garden.

    my GBB sling almost never goes to the ground. I only say almost because I never see it off the top but I can only assume it goes down at night, there is no webbing near the ground but tons up top. I moved it into a front opening tarantula cribs arboreal enclosure and I used some small cork bark slabs to build kind of a blockage to put more substrate in. I felt guilty wrecking its web at the top when I would feed it. It is my first tarantula and I hope I am treating it right.

    What's funny is I just got my first T after watching T videos for years...(Yay! Husband finally stopped being a B**ch about it LOL). So I went into my smelly local pet shop to get a enclosure for her (Mexican Red Rump) and they were trying to push the sponge for the water dish hard core like. I finally had to just say "I'm a crafter and have plenty of those sponges thank you though". They did not want to hear anything bad about sponges in the water dish cons. Of course it is misinformation on their part, stubbornness, but most likely more money for them if they can get you to purchase their over priced sponges. Thanks again Richard I will continue to spread (Sponge Awareness)!!!!! Remember people don't feel pressured into buying the damn sponge!!

    I have a terrestrial T in an arboreal tank, but I filled my substrate amount far above the halfway amount to counter potential fall distance. And I add more as needed (though I have no idea what he's doing with it...) Should I switch him over? It's the tank I got him with and he already had his spaces webbed and burrowed. Curly hair for reference

    Awesome Vid as always ! I was wondering if you or anyone really could answer a question of mine :D When a T loses a limb and needs to regrow it, where does the new limb form ? is it inside tucked against the abdomen ? I haven't had much luck looking for an answer myself !

    • @dorabrooks76
      @dorabrooks76 Před 2 lety +1

      My answer is solely based on observation, so please take it with a grain of salt- I'm certainly not a scientist. 😉
      I once watched a video of a tarantula with a missing leg molt. The new leg _seemed_ to come from within the carapace. It kinda just popped out, a bit before the other legs (I'm guessing that's because it was smaller and not encased in a tight fitting exoskeleton like the undamaged legs were). Again, just my observation, and also not my tarantula.
      Watching molting videos might be an avenue for research, though. That way you can hopefully see with your own eyes. 😃

      @@dorabrooks76 thanks ! I've watched a few but the T's in them have all their legs ! Thankyou for your observations though, it does help a little with my burning curiosity as to how they manage this !

    • @dorabrooks76
      @dorabrooks76 Před 2 lety

      @@MsMynxx You're quite welcome. 😊 It's such an incredible feat to somehow grow a new leg _inside_ ones own body! With newts, some geckos, ect, we can at least see the whole regrowing process. Spiders just like to be mysterious, I guess! lol
      I definitely understand your curiosity- I was (and still am) curious how it works, too. I wish I could remember the name of the video or the channel name with the video I saw so I could tell you... I hope you can find a video or other source to sate your curiosity! Cheers!

    I'm happy to find out I already knew these before getting my little ones, but I am a confused about why my slings seem to be growing so slowly. I've had them around two years now and they're still only a inch leg span. Could it be to do with temperature, or could diet be the issue? Or is that normal and I'm being stupid?

    I am a first time owner. I just got a stripe knee last week. I use a heat pad on the outside of the enclosure. Is that safe to use?

  • @stefanostokatlidis4861

    Do tarantulas fall so easily though? A healthy tarantula has an excellent grip with its legs on any surface and carefully checks the surface in front before advancing.
