Their short tempers may also play a role. When Luke becomes Grand Master he has the epiphany that Jedi should be in tune with and healthily _express_ their emotions instead of suppressing them and that includes anger, Wookies freely express their rage but only ever at the source, never lashing out at what's convenient.
Personally I think Wookies are so connected to the living force and life itself that it would require an extreme situation to make them Fall and they'd likely be able to return to the Light.
I agree I think that they are so connected to elementals and nature that it would be nearly impossible since the dark side is about death and destruction rather than the nurturing of the living force
@@Caroline-lj9wq dathomir has a lote of life and is strong into the dark side

Tell that Hanharr. He would have been a sith monster
Wasn't there a bad/evil Wookie bounty hunter
Jedi: "How do you get angry, and not fall to the Dark Side?"
Wookie: "That's our secret Jedi. We're always angry!"
this is pure gold ahahahah
It's unresolved anger that leads to the darkside, because it stays inside you and eats you from inside
Now i see why Plo Koon is so kind. Its most likely of his species and his own master being kind harted and understanding. Also i dont think Plo Koon's species ever fell to the darkside either
What’s the name of his species?

The deformities alone..
I feel as if Wookiee must be similar to yodas species in this regard. I think that if the sith are naturally attuned to the dark and that species never went to the light (to my knowledge) so it’s good to have a foil to that
Yes, makes sense seeing as the Wookiees were so loyal to Yoda, and why he was so comfortable with them.
There were plenty of lightside Sith purebloods in Legends.
I don't know if they are. I think a lot is based on Culture. Wookie Culture is VERY Pro Jedi and Anti Sith.
Meanwhile, Humans were a mix, which is why so many fall to the Dark Side, but also make great Jedi.
There have been Sith lightsiders in legends but only a few as their biology typically feeds on the dark side naturally for survival on the barren waste that is Korriban.
I think if ever a Star Wars story tackled the concept of a sith wookie, they’d need to approach it carefully and come up with a solid reason. Honestly, a wookie raised by the witches of Dathomir might make this a possibility.
or maybe project harvester
@@jimmy__7161 that makes sense too.
The Empire decimated the ecosystems surrounding the Origin tree in their quest to refine wroshyyr sap into fuel. Far beyond any invasion or battle the systematic defoliation and harvesting of the deep old growth jungle left deep scars in the land and cost the Wookie people countless sacred places. Perhaps a force sensitive wookie abducted as a refinery slave, freed, and able to witness the mass destruction of his home could be driven to a revenge quest.
@@ltchugacast131 that’s some sick primal dark side vibes. That sounds like a karr castor method of the dark side.
Even though it’s an impossibility a Sith Wookie is an absolutely terrifying concept. Their pension for ripping off the limbs of whatever angers them combined with the unnatural abilities of the Dark Side, such a thing would be straight up nightmare fuel because of how savage it would be if you really pissed off a Sith Wookie. There would probably be nothing left of who ever tried to fight them. It’s a good thing that Wookies are so inclined towards the light because if I was a Jedi I would not want to encounter a Sith Wookie.
Darth Fuzz-butt; Beware his furry fury flurry.
They better have some Leatherface or Jason Vibes, imagine a darkside wookie hunting you at Camp Crystal Lake. Or better yet, replace the hunter from The Predator with this dark wookie, holly shit!
Ripping the arms off of someone who angers them, doesn't sound very "light side of the force." Sounds more dark side to me.
@@Psychof1st They use it for good reasons, so technically counts as non-Darkside apparently. It sounds like a matter of what's motivating you to do it i guess, much like force choke being a particularly agro version of telekinesis or force judgment being a non-lethal taser-like version of force lightning, at least that's how I like to read it.
@@Charolette21 Ripping someones arms off because, they angered you, is not "for good reasons." It's anger, which is a dark side emotion. And ripping arms off in that context is a selfish, sociopathic, act that causes brutal, permanent, physical and mental trauma. Irreversible damage all for one's own twisted satisfaction. There's no light side to it.
We're not talking about life saving amputations here. We're talking about the Wookie equivalent of shooting someone for cutting you off in traffic or talking shit about you.
this is definitely the same case as the Dathomirians where their culture was so ingrained in the dark side that even Jedis started hunting them in fear of them birthing a very strong sith lord.
All I can say, is that Disney need to stop with the goddamn humans in star wars shows and give us more alien characters.

This kind of reminds me how the Kel Dor species and culture were also very in tune with the light side (and the jedi ideals), so Plo Koon and other Kel Dor jedi would find it hard to impossible to fall without abandoning everything they were ever taught. And add in Plo Koon having a Wookie Master, that just makes total sense
Always happy to see more of your research. Gets my creative twitch grooving.
Definitely looking forward to see how much Gungi has grown and how his powers have advanced in the Force
order 66 be like: who’s gungi?
I literally gasped and yelled “Gungi!!!!!” When I saw the trailer! I’m so happy to learn that he survived somehow, I adored him in the clone wars and his light saber was beautiful, I’m so excited to see him again!!!
In KOTOR, when you find the star forge map. It’s mentioned that the growth of the flora and fauna on kashyyk has been influenced by the star forge map and dark side. So this would include the Wookies, maybe due to that they have developed a resistance to the dark side influences. Or that it’s that difficult to survive, they have to work together and trust implicitly. If they stood alone, they wouldn’t last very long…
I'm not sure about that last part; in "Boba Fett," the Armorer and Din are talking about the contrast between Jedi and Mandalorians, and Din says that the Mandalorian Way (basically what you're describing as the Wookie way) is the opposite of the Jedi Way, because the former encourages bonding to survive.
Was it in KotoR that explained their connection and design towards the trees of their homewards?
it is weird that force sensitivity is rare in wookies considering how tied to life the force is and how life plays a massive role in wookie culture.
I didn’t know this about Wookies. Thanks for yet another nice and well explained video.
Loved the video. Wookiees are the best. Also a side note I love how you say student of the force acolytes of the galaxy etc.
Without delving into species lore I always had the impression Commander Krell would be easily a powerful force user but especially in lightsaber combat with 4 arms plus their size and strength and 4 arms can make up for absolute speed considering he’s a heavy tank kind of dude.
i agree, we both have seen how he defend himself against dozen of trooper. Even the reason he was captured is because the clones manage to use the environment againts him. I always believe that if he was there at the jedi purge, there's a huge chance he escaped order 66.
@@ikanhiu8906 exactly: they couldn’t take him head on so they had to improvise. I have to give props to the clones though, their knowledge of fighting among Jedi proved to be useful... when order 66 came around.

@@shadowslayer9988 well, to be fair, Krell was likely more in the Dark Side at that point
Love this video. Good analysis
The Studio in question is Obsidian Entertainment. so instead of turning Hanharr into a Jedi, they turned him into a crazed Wookie berserker that is almost as good as a Jedi. For those that don't know. Hanharr is a possible companion in Knights of the Old Republic 2 - the sith lords. he joins the player's party if you are dark-sided when you trigger a certain cut scene with Mira, where she describes you more like a Sith than a Jedi. If you are light-sided or Neutral, you get Mira instead. Mira is my favourite companion in the game. Not just because she can be turned into a Jedi, but because she's great with blasters, so you can play both blaster Jedi or you can go with lightsabers, you can do this with Atton too. Also, Mira's humour is perfect.
I came down here to say this: It's disingenuous to say no Wookie ever fell to the Dark Side. No Wookie Force sensitive has thus far fallen to the Dark Side, but even though Lucas nixed Hanharr being a Dark Force user, he is stll very much a Dark Side affiliated being. However, he is also clearly the exception that proves the rule, and shows just how twisted a Wookie would have to become to fall to the Dark Side.
I think Wookies are the superior race in Star Wars. They are very in tune with the force, but don't need it. Much like Yoda's race. You can tell by how in harmony with nature both races are. Also, the main reason Wookies don't ever fall to the Darkside is the fact that the Sith have been trying to subjugate them for millenia, and the Jedi have always been very close allies and friends to the Wookies. They're very loyal
But proud nonetheless if a Member is Force Sensitive
Finally another video about the Wookiee Jedi!
I would like to see something similar to the white fur Wookie depicted in the video, but as more of an Outcast story because of his albino look. Cast out of his tribe and shunned by all his people, becomes resentful and develops hatred and becomes strong in the dark side of the force. Then maybe a Sith discovers him and trains him or something. that would be cool
That would be beast! But it would be too many subtitles lololol
@@Huppy1234567 true but instead of speaking wookie he could speak an ancient sith language
@@justsayin2856 I like that Idea, or perhaps most of the dialog would be from his sith master or something like that. He could just wreck shit and be angry Wookie

A group of friends started up a StarWars DnD when "The Old Republic" MMO came out. I played a Wookie Jedi and used the intro cinematic from the game to convince my DM to let me dual wield a double & a single bladed sabre at the same time.
Such a fun campaign
Yoda had much respect for these guys
A little head canon of mine, I like to imagine all things considered star wars legends actually lives up to the name of the word "legends". The legends and au stories being told throughout the galaxy by storytellers.
With this explanation it does make sense that neither a Wookiee or Yoda's species has turned. The main lure of the darkside is to circumvent death and dirupt the natural order. Not only are the two species long lived but also have a deep natural connection to the universe.
Not some I ever asked myself, but interesting. Hanhar was definitely bloodthirsty. I used to wonder if it was just the idea of "violence" being amoral on it's own, but then he revealed how he enjoyed killing the slavers and wanted Mira dead. Definitely darkside, but not Force sensitive.
thank you!!! I was just wondering about this!!!
Thank you Master Wave, your teachings serve us padawans well
thank you for making the distinction between the sith and the dark side.
Great video Loved it
That wookie art work is freaking amazing btw props to the artist.
Yoda was chillin with the Wookies in the end cause he knew he could trust them . He never seemed worried about them betraying him.
It actually matches my picture of the Wookies as a force of nature. Storms, Vulcanic Erruptions or Floods can be devastating but even they aren't evil and bring many good things with them like Fertility for the soil. A Wookies Rage is just like that.
I never even thought about this subject it is very interesting. Great video.
I think that as a species, even if they are presented as a monolith the fact that they found balance between nature and technology could be seen as a manifestation of their leaning towards the light side, seeing as they sought balance. whilst the dark side of the force is about domination, power and the vast technological power and industrialisation of the empire illustrates that perfectly.
Yeah, Wookies know how to live in harmony with nature, which is pretty much the Light Side's whole thing.
A sith/dark side wookie would honestly be absolutely terrifying
Wookiees are such badass species in star wars so excited to see them in bad batch season 2
Lowbacca was a member of the Young Jedi Knight squad. He's is friends to all of the Solo kids and is Chewbacca's nephew. His bronze bladed lightsaber is one of my favorite sabers.
Didn't he briefly fall to the dark side after Anakin Solo's death in Star By Star.
@@maradjade1848 Lowbacca didn't, but Jaina came close to falling.
The best way we can see in terms of a dark Wooki, is a Windu like figure.
He(?) Would channel a little of the dark side to aid him in a fight.
That or when he hunts, he channels the dark side to help his aggression to further his pursuit of prey...
edit: spelling
I always loved the Wookies, and always wished they'd include them as a playable race in one of the games, but I never understood why none of them are ever able to speak basic, which is, I assume, the reason they've never been a playable race.
i’m pretty sure their physiology don’t allow them to speak basics
@S N Awesome Donut is correct from what I remember. I DO remember that one Wookiee could speak Basic due to a speech impediment that allowed them to form Basic language. Pretty sure it's in the "legends" file now.
They can't speak basic cause their vocal cords aren't built for it
I'm guessing that the reason they're not a playable race is because of George Lucas's stipulation that there can be no Wookie Jedi without his approval. I'm guessing that this extends to video game characters as well as movie/show/comic characters.
Well wookies were playable in Star wars Empire Divided. Or as most knew it Star wars Galaxies. But that is an older mmo, that should of never of ended, but is dead except for private servers. And they could be jedi in that game and it was Lucas's approved.
Very interesting never knew. Hopefully we can see this in action someday on the screen
What I thought about there beeing no dark side Wookies:
Yoda said he shares good relationship with the Wookies. Mayebe the Wookie's view the Jedi as friends since they first met.
Maybe the Wookies are so in tune with their homeworld that they concider it blasphemy to harm any living beeing without any reason.
Along with Yodas species, I'm betting the wookies were so powerful because of their stronger connection to the light, which enabled them to dive deeper into the dark side to comprehend it better, and develop defenses, like when everyone else succumbed to the emperors or duku's force lightning, Yoda just absorbed it (duku's) or threw it away/redirected it (palpatine's)
Yeah but yoda is also 900 years old so if anyone would have come up with a force ability to neutralize force lightning it would be him
@@hakobo2744 ya but only masters were allowed to study Darkside artifacts, and among those masters only ones approved by the council, which Yoda being the leader of the council he had full reign to study anything. His lightsaber affinity would let him dive into the darkside without falling to it. Likely how he knew what to do with force lightning
I'm no start wars expert but wookies seem to be prone to rage bursts which would make me think they would lean towards the dark side of the force if they became force sensitive.. or perhaps because they have so much natural rage to begin it makes them sort of immune to the dark side influence.. in any case wookies are just so cool it doesn't really matter if they are good or bad!
I think this is a scenario of an unexplored possibility as there have been many situations where worries who lose control get banished to the ground level on Kashyyk. Those would be options for a working to fall to the dark side, especially alongside the Tarentateks.
Wait. Wookiees have a STRONG family attachments. Probably the reason why they’re never really evil. Everything they do if for the good of their clan. Maybe their strong emotions bonds to their family roots, whether their wookie clan or Jedi order, is the reason they’re so “good”. Interesting since Jedi aren’t suppose to not have bonds.
That last part is because of thousands of years of influence by members of Yoda's race, who, because of their long lifespans, see friends and loved ones live and die. It's easier for these beings to live detached, but as Dooku learned long before his corruption, a Jedi needs a certain amount of attachment to normal people if they are to be compassionate to those people.
In ages past, they blamed Arrun Kae's teachings when her students, most notably Revan, became Sith. But what of Darths Tyrannus or Vader? What of older Sith Lords that started as Jedi; Ulec Qel-Droma, or Exar Kun? Is there a fundamental flaw in the Jedi teachings that failed those people?
The Jedi never forbade attachments.Yoda had Wookie friends, and we see Obi-Wan's friend Dexter in AOTC. The prohibition against attachments should be understood within the context that Jedi should not prioritize attachments to the point where they are tempted to be selfish. _That_ is why Yoda told Anakin that he was entering the danger zone in ROTS.
I am a subscriber from long ago then i lost the channel. I am glad i found it again
The moment you mentioned lobacca or lowie as he was nicknamed than you should have mentioned that he was Chewie’s nephew.
So you dropped the ball there and I too read that same book as the main plot was split as it also involved the solo twins who found a crashed tie fighter and they repaired it and were given a damaged hyper drive which they repaired and than put into the tie fighter.
The pilot of it was an imprerial officer who had survived and watched the kids before making his move and holding one of them hostage.
This was also when they all were children and the twins young teenagers, Ben was I think 10 in the story and had a droid nanny taking care of him at the new Jedi temple.
Lobocca had a yellow or gold colored lightsaber blade.
Great content! I didn't know that wookies had long lifespans.
Before you even mentioned it, I was thinking similarly to you in regards to the Yoda species. was just thinking if they had a long enough lifespan to really be at or near that level
Great concept, about the Wookiee’s community set up.

I am satisfied with this explanation for now. My mind might change later than now though.
what if the Empire's presence on Kashyyyk is so strong is bc he knows about gungi surviving and has known he has fled to his home world, and a wookie jedi could best him in both raw power, as well as age and longevity. I think it would be cooler to see if maybe one other youngling from that CN/CW Arc if they both survived together and the one that made it with Gungi gets killed and a depressed Gungi retreats to the Shadowlands and sits in hatred...But Palapatine can feel this and will stop at nothing to get to Gungi. Hence why the Empire has such a hold on that system. What do yall think, it makes sense right?
"There are no sith wookies" - Well, technically yes, we haven't seen one but there are definitely evil wookies that pretty much behave like Sith like Hanharr from Kotor.
This is a description of Hanharrs behaviour from an ingame character: "It's like he's out to make the whole galaxy suffer-every living thing in it. He wants to break them, ruin them, and when they can't suffer any more, he wants them dead."
That's very interesting and I knew wookies was powerful melee and ranged combatants but force sensitive wookies is kinda new to me.
It’s very rare in Wookies
Can you imagine a sith lord kidnapping a force sensitive wookie baby and raising it as a sith it would literally be like having a force sensitive werewolf, it could make for a good story like he follows his master then finds his people and realizes he was robbed and betrayed so he turns on his master and kills him he wanders as a sort of dark force user before finding a powerful jedi master, because his only encounters with other force sensitives were so bad he lashes out to attack but the master quickly subdues him and laughs at him maybe calls him a mockery of the sith since he doesn't sense any true hate in his heart only confusion and fear and goes on to train the wookie properly while also showing him and letting him embrace true wookie nature
That's interesting.
Has there ever been a Trandoshan Sith?
Hunter's instinct + Fierce savagery --> Dark Side attunement?
(Okay, Qyzen Fess from SWTOR has worked alongside the Jedi, but he's not Force-Sensitive).
yes and they all died theres even a few jedis as well but most of them all died in order 66
They were engineered by the Rakata who were attuned to the dark side. So it seems strange that wookies would be attuned to the light.
Wish we could have seen more Wookie Jedi or at least Force users in TCW
some species such as yodas species and the wookies have a strong pull and bond with the light side of the force.
My LEGO Star Wars character was Eknar the Wookie Jedi. He was kind of a grey Jedi in my mind though, and I think I gave him a Darth Maul lightsaber, so it had to be red, and the game made him have dark side powers because of that. I kinda want to play it now. Maybe there's even an updated LEGO Star Wars now.
I thought the little Wookie guy from Clone Wars got cut down during Order 66. That's kinda cool he escaped. I want more Wookie Jedi!
Part of why it seems like there are few Wookie Jedi is that there are so many human Jedi, but humans inhabit dozens of planets in Star Wars and Wookies mainly come from one. When you look at it that way, it’s probably not that Force sensitivity is rare in Wookies but rather that the amount of Force sensitives from their species is proportionate to the amount of Wookies there are in comparison to the trillions of humans.
A wookie Jedi in a movie would be amazing. I imagine the lightsaber would be larger to suit his size. A hilt that’s so big a human would need two hands to pick it up. The blade would be much longer too. I think that would be pretty cool
Maybe a longer handle so they can really whack someone when need be, exploit that Wookie strength.
like the ninth sister
They could probably hold a double bladed lightsaber in one hand
Well we are gonna see a Wookie Jedi in Bad Batch Season 2!
average swords(and lightsabers) have about 1 meter long blade. Lightsaber hilts are already *meant* to be used with two hands, though it is possible to hold them in one. So, say an 8-foot tall Wookiee would need a huge hilt and would likely adjust the blade to be 1.5 meters or so.
Also I have the feeling a culture accustomed to be warrior without searching it could be helpful. When needed you are a fearless and furious warrior and maybe a wookie Jedi could tap in the dark side powers, but at the end your culture teaches you how to handle this rage.
but I'm not a lore expert and maybe this Is a bullshit
That's a great theory that, cannon or not, should be near universally accepted.
I do like the fact that Wookies are not tempted by the dark side the fact that honour and truth are so important to them .but it's just nice that Lucas held them with such regard they are one of my favourite spices

You left out Burryaga. He was one of my favorite Jedi in High Republic.
Their culture really does dissuade against needless violence and betrayal. Plus Wookies are very stubborn and resilient case and point is the enslavement of Kashyyyk’s general population and how long they waited for a time to strike as hard as possible. That reminds me of The Force Unleashed where Darth Vader leads a military raid on Kashyyyk because the troops alone can’t handle the immense strength and determination of the Wookies.

It’s the same for the kel dor, plo koons species they are naturally attuned to the light side of the force. Even having their own light side orders outside of the Jedi.
In my mind certain species have a affinity for a particular side of the force based upon their culture and beliefs. And it makes sense to me due to the fact the wookies are a very conservational and indigenous culture.
