    The Wookie may be a primitive species, but they are technologically advanced. In Legends, they even managed to make starfighters that were used during the second Galactic Civil War. The Owool interceptors is what they were called.

    • @XXMatt0040XX
      @XXMatt0040XX Před 10 měsíci +22

      I wouldn't even call them primitive. While yes, they use wood for weapons and all, but since the Rakata terraformed Kashyyyk it makes sense that the wood to be in many ways superior to other natural resources

    • @elijahbutcher9522
      @elijahbutcher9522 Před 10 měsíci +18

      It's contradictory to say that they're primitive and advanced especially since primitive can have negative connotations to it as in it can be used as an insult. Nothing about the Wookies is primitive, they are an incredibly advanced species just like most others within the Star Wars universe.

      @@senorbolainas2991 I find that when most folk say “primitive” what they mean is a culture spends too much time outside and doesn’t care enough about money or the bread and circuses of the “civilized” world.
      Basically a relic of British colonialism, their equivalent of the Roman’s calling everyone else barbarians.

    • @Tinkering4Time
      @Tinkering4Time Před 6 měsíci +1

      Being primitive and being sophisticated are not mutually exclusive. Oftentimes primitive technology requires a higher level of individual skill to make and use. Woodworking, flint knapping, agriculture, weaving, hunting, and foraging are intensely technical. Many civilizations with access to metalworking did not prioritize its development due to a lack of convenient access to resources that allowed for long-term experimentation, unlike the coal and steel that made the British uniquely advantaged.
      In fact it was in part dependence on complex and vulnerable trade networks that facilitated the real life Bronze Age Collapse. The relatively scarce (for the technology of the time) metal tin, which when alloyed with copper makes bronze, had to travel vast distances to arrive in places like Greece and Egypt. There is bronze in Egypt whose tin can be traced back to Britain. That is how huge the demand for tin was. Entire tribes were supported in large part by their mining of tin for trade.
      It is that same large-scale trade vulnerability that makes similarly global markets so unstable even to this day. Just look at the petroleum trade.
      In comparison, there is a resiliency and stability in more primitive and localized technologies that cannot be ignored.

    I also love the designs of their lightsabers by Wookie force users such as Tyvokka, Gungi and Lowbacca.
    Particularly with Tyvokka's due to him possessing a curved hilt with a yellow blode. Which leads me to believe that he was either a user of form 2 or 5. Or a mix of both.

    • @FalconWindblader
      @FalconWindblader Před 10 měsíci

      Curved-hilted blades in real life are used ONLY in fencing, & given that the ONLY fencing-styled counterpart in lightsaber combat is Form II, said wookie would definitely have a heavy preference for Form II, if not using it exclusively. curved-hilted blades are a particularly bad match for Form V, given that the form's emphasis on aggressive offense based almost exclusively on raw power, with little finesse to speak of.

      Wookiees are an extremely spiritual people, so that would certainly work for them, and the Rakata did experiment with Kassyk and made it damn near radiate the Force.
      So yeah, I love that concept! The Jedi even had Force infused swords that were basically enchanted weapons, so why not the Wookiees?

    Wookie cultural conservatism severely hampers their species. The simplest example is they had claws that _by tradition_ they couldn't use against intelligent species, which was _stupid_ as that would be a one shot killing blow, a Wookie could be a whirlwind of death in close combat.
    Imagine if they got their claws cybernetically enhanced! while there's no adamantium, there are still some very useful materials and prehaps going for something non-conductive?
    Then just try finding a hold out blaster in a Wookies fur.
    They had so many advantages they squandered, they could have been a major power and not a ball to be kicked around, if they had played it smart.
    Urbane Wookies (wearing tatical kilts and a multipocket vest, with a grooming bot for their fur in one pocket) with a vox implant so they can vocalise the common Galactic languages. They leverage their 400+ year lifespan to move up the ladder in corporations, as well as become very skilled in various fields.
    Also being a 7 foot tall killing machine helps in office politics, even just by implication. Using your claws as a letter opener is a power move, as is just flashing them.
    Wookies could colonise planets that many other mainstream species find inhospitable, Chewie could walk around naked on Hoth, Endor and Tatooine. That's a very wide range of Biomes.
    They should have made a few bolthole colonies on the far end of secret hyperspace routes.
    And openly emigrated in groups to strategic worlds that had difficult environments, as they could adapt to and exploit them better than other species.
    Finally Wookies knew secret hyperspace routes and had their own class of Force Sensitive Pathfinders.
    Wookies could have started their own frieght companies and dominated their competition by the fact that not only could a individual Wookie be skilled in every position needed, but they could also be the forklift and powerloader during cargo transfers.
    And if the crew was all Wookie, they could take secret hyperspace shortcuts to really undercut their competition....
    With a 400 year lifespan they could reproduce a lot if they wanted, and even used medical tech for IVF (a lesson Vulcans should learn, particularly in the Kelvin timeline). Then they would be a common species and could kick the Trandosians ass.
    There was a reason that Wookies were popular as slaves, and it wasn't the ease of control (it was very very risky). It was because they were very useful workers, a Wookie would never be hard up for a job on any multispecies planet.
    As long as they were a low population backwater species that lived a by choice traditional lifestyle, they will always be at the mercy of greater powers.
