- This holiday season, the NY Transit Museum continues the tradition of placing its vintage train cars in regular service every Sunday between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
In 2023, the 1930s-era vintage R1-9 cars returned to the D line, running between 2nd Avenue and 145th St. Enjoy!

The R1-9s ARE New York. Thank you, MTA for preserving them and running them for us to enjoy, in person or on videos. And those conductors manhandling those external door controls are hard core.
im so happy that these trains havent been vandalized yet thank you society for allowing such an aamzing thing to occur
I believe transit personnel watch them closely when they are in service. And when out of service they are held at the Transit Museam.
@@WitchidWitchid When they are out of service, they are stored at either 207th Street or the Coney Island Yard.
@@YoungNYCSubwayFan okay. I was under the impression that they were. kept in the museum.
Is that a challenge?
@@monkeybusinessasusuall5467 It is a challenge as far as space is concerned, respectfully.
Eye luv riding those “Old Timers”, They bring up Gr8 memories.😎
Didn't think they had that many operable R1-9s. And these look in immaculate condition.
Thanks for producing and sharing this holiday train video. I particularly like the shots of the conductors operating the doors from between cars. Doesn't seem like a particularly safe location from which to work, but fun to watch. Cheers from Wisconsin!
I love when. These are on the nostalgia trains because when they let em rip on there former trackage it’s an experience you’ll never have again . I love when these cars go express and the Lo Vs too
Awesome. Running these 1930s cars on the Holiday Train.💚💚👌👌
Always a pleasure seeing you conduct the holiday runs
LOVE those old timers! They signed 381 as an A on the 23rd; 1575 had to be left behind.
What a nice thing to do over the holiday season. It's funny to see some people on the platform waiting for the D train, then the museum train rolls in and they don't know if they should get on or not.
Oh cool subway cars from the 1930s
Thank you
Fantastic clip. I just wish i was there to soak it up.
See New York you can have holiday trains like Chicago too.
I enjoy that video👍👍
Those trains were rammed! Is that 'ordinary' Christmas tube (subway) traffic or were they all subway nerds or nostalgic New Yorkers? Just like LT (London Transport) running the preserved 1938 stock in service, from time to time. Great for Museums to run stock where it was intended, while preserving it for history. Great vlog and great to see how 'undated' that stock was. 1930? Just like our '38 stock.
I think it was a combination of subway enthusiasts and regular riders. Some people looking for the D train seemed confused when the old cars rolled in.
These were built from 1930 from subway car 100 til 1940 from subway car 1802. Collectively they are called the R9s. 😊 I am a New Yorker who grew up in NYC during the Mad Men era of the 1960s.
0:48 since when the R1-9s had a door chime🤔
They never did? Just an air whistle to alert the motorman to start running the train.
I am old enough to remember when these were the most common subway trains on the 6th and 8th Avenue lines. We took the F train to 47th Street Rockefeller Center. 😊
I love how THATS DJ 0:41 himself 😂
I think

Subway,👍
✌Thanks👰Thanks,✌
Still forget that DJ's a TA Operator/Conductor.
I was on that train!
✌Subway,👍Subway,✌
Was thee 1575 car was out on repairs I just heard earlier that the train was out of service on it last run
Are those actual door chimes I hear, or is it some random person saying “ding dong” (lol)?
These don’t have door chimes lol
It looks like a new train
Bad news: A mechanical problem cancelled the rest of the rides.
Good news: The problem happened AFTER Christmas Day.
The last two runs got cancelled unfortunately.
When running vintage equipment that sort of thing can happen. There's no guarantees with the old trains.
What happened to the nostalgia train yesterday (Dec 30)? I was at the 14th st station at 1:57 pm waiting for the 2 pm departure from 2nd Ave and it never arrived. Was there an issue?
If youre at 14th street - 6th avenue, that train is going express, not local.
Anybody know the story behind the single-chime air whistle?
epico
If anyone saw someone wearing a blue shark, that was me
I heard a flat wheel!
Never mind! Read the comments, answered my question.
Happy new year 2024
i am so unlucky
