Every time there are layoffs in the industry, we should be talking about how much the CEOs make.
To state it with elegance: Fuck Ubisoft.
Ubisoft has pretty much already blown its good faith. They must figure that the Star Wars IP is too big to fail. If people actually do boycott the game (because of their bad business practices), they will blame us and try to make the argument, "No one wants single player games anymore."
Ubisoft looked at EA and said to themselves "I can do it worse."
Worse? Is that why my Ubisoft investments within my portfolio since 2012 is still decently strong? If you were benefitting financially like me, you wouldn’t be full of salt. 😂🤣
bait used to be believable
Ubisoft is comically evil at this point. Kind of insane how much they’ve been allowed to get away with when it comes to working conditions alone
@@twosoup3252nobody cares about their working conditions. Gamers just want their game on time.
😂😂😂😂 last time I owned Ubisoft game AC unity
Scummy publisher practices are scummy. Until these publishers feel the loss of money income and people stop buying the expensive editions this will literally never change. These people think the consumer is stupid, and with how often they keep getting paid heaps of money, they are reinforced with this notion.
As an IT guy I'm absolutely certain the consumer is stupid. We need more consumer protections because the vast majority are incredibly ignorant of what they're buying.
focus on making money, then focus on gaming.
“think” they are stupid
Yeah I won't be buying any ubisoft games anymore
As if that was limited to gaming. Keyword: Shrinkflation
My prediction for the Indie Direct is people will be expecting too much and feel let down once again.
🎯
Jabba the Hut runs a extortionist cartel... just like Ubisoft
* Laughs in Salacious Crumb *
Yeah I'm a star wars fan, but I'm not buying that piece of crap.
The Sarlacc pit is the season pass: a draining and suffocating experience that lasts for years.
On the fence gamers: "I don't really think ubisoft sucks.."
Ubisoft: "wait, let us explain why we do."
I think it’s important to point out that T2 doesn’t *have to* lay people off. They’re simply doing it because everyone else in the industry has been doing it so they can get away with doing it too even if there is no need to. It’s just companies doing anything they can to chase short term profits
Yep. Recently, we even had Phil saying that if sales aren't going up, then costs will have to go down. These big publishers aren't going to go broke if they keep people on staff, and they obviously feel ok spending lots of money when they are still buying dev studios. They choose not to spend it on staff.
You left out the part where take two fired 600 employees and then doubled their ceo's salary at the same time.
Day one 70$ release with content, not just cosmetics, locked behind a pay wall.
Ubisoft wonders why it's a meme to buy their games at full price.
Endless corporate greed
Gotta love capitalism!
This past Saturday, I started playing Final Fantasy IX through PS Plus to get ready for the reported remake, and now I gotta worry about if I could finish it before it leaves the service at the end of May or just pay Sony for "digital entitlement" of the game after it gets removed. The subscription based model and the All-Digital Future are lots of fun!
All digital is fine. Relying on a corporate subscription for digital data, or corporate-managed hardware to use the data, is where the problems start.
@@ordinaryhuman5645 All-digital is great and is the future. However, the lack of legislation and no ownership for our purchases are the problems. Publishers are racing to all-digital so they can get a head start on legislators and take advantage of gamers for as long as they can. Fortunately, capitalism will likely be dead in a hole around that time anyway.
@@SilverDreamweaver You don't really need legislation as a consumer though.
Play on a platform that allows you to own and manage the hardware and software.
Play DRM-free games that you can play offline without online services.
Consumers have all of the power here; if we don't buy it, they'll stop making it.
@@ordinaryhuman5645are we living on the same planet? Since when does loguc work in real life 😂
@@MrZuga89 It seems to work fine for me. If any of the proprietary console overlords do silly things with their hardware or online services it doesn't negatively impact me at all, at least.

TBF being able to play online games without as many cheaters as on PC is already a selling point for the consoles.

Silksong has become the Half Life 3 of indie games

It’s got 5 years to go to begin to reach that point.

Good call! Forgot about that cool looking game. Let’s hope it’s a shadow drop.
I doubt it will be shadow dropped. Devolver Digital likes to stretch marketing leading up to a game's release.
Same, I got so many indie/lesser known games on my wishlists that are yet to be released like Jump Ship, Runa, SPGP Super Polygon Grand Prix, Parking Garage Rally Circuit, Fumes, Victory Heat Rally, Ood School Rally, hyper Light Breaker, Repunk, Evotinction, Selaco, Sin Reloaded, The Last Exterminator, Phantom Fury, Interlopers, Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse, Let Bions Be Bygons, SCHiM, Screenbound, Decline's Drops, Wind Runners, Aero GPX, Megacopter, Core Decay, Falling Frontier, Gestalt; Steam & Cinder, JDM: Japanese Drift Master, REPLACED, Verge World.. How anyone can be excited for a Ubisoft game is beyond me. I haven't heard anything good with them from how they approach their customers in any regards in week over a year
Because I'm not some jaded cynical. Prince of Persia The Lost Crown rocks and Outlaws has potential. I'm still waiting for a sale though because I have a ton of other plans first.
@@JeannieLove Yet. You're not some jaded cynical... yet.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Mario Party 8 still going strong in that sale. Long live the Wii.
Ubisoft lost my buy that’s so dumb.
Speaking of sales, for any PC players out there, Steam is having a sale on a lot of FPS titles. The entire Metro 2033 trilogy will cost you $10 USD, and the F.E.A.R. Complete Pack is on sale for just $5.49 USD. That's an extremely good deal since for whatever reason, the original F.E.A.R. can't be bought individually on Steam. You can ONLY buy it in the bundle that normally costs $55.
Steam always has sales and the big summer one will be coming in June.
Metal Slug Tactics probably saw how bad Persona 5 tactica did
Chibi graphics fucked it. People don’t like that shit and it’s obvious.
it didnt do badly. it was a really popular gamepass drop. its not a good game in the persona series, but a fun tactics style game.
Metal Slug Tactics may have had some serious tinkering with the overall options and stages available. I think they just announced it with a mock animation and told the developers to just crank it out, but it wasn't that simple of a task.
@@joogled1839 popular on gamepass doesnt sell switch cartridges

You know what gaming franchise I want its "exclusivity" to leave a particular platform? *Kingdom Hearts* on the Epic Game Store.
Seriously, how long are we going to wait for that franchise to be available on Steam?? (I don't want to split my gaming library between Steam/Epic stores)
So you are just lazy to have two launchers on the same system? Just say I want it dirt cheap on a sale and that's it 😅
Worst case scenario you could pirate it if you wanna prove a point to Epic 😂
Ubisoft is dead to me. It's going thru its villian phase and it can go ahead and keep any game it releases. I'm all set.
Felt that why since Watch Dogs. They have released some decent things here and there. I’ll give Outlaws the benefit of the doubt though, it looks like an alright time
Ubisoft: We need more money.
Spent like $200 at GameStop on this sale saved $150 not bad
Any buy 2 get 1 deal has a maximum savings potential of 50% of what you spent. Which means you either saved $100 or less, or spent $300 or more.
Personally, I’m not super worried about Nintendo for the rest of 2024, because even if no major new titles are released, units will STILL sell. I find myself playing less of my Switch and more of the Xbox and PS5, but Nintendo has their setup in the bag IMO
Is an extra mission really worth almost half the original price of the game?
STAR 'THE MESSAGE' WARS.
No no, they don’t HAVE TO lay people off, they choose to do so because of greed.

Already looking forward to the inevitable leaks when someone finds early development builds of a bunch of Take Two games.
I fully expect developers in the future to make late-gen releases look or run terrible on purpose so that next gen can look like an improvement worth investing in.
Looking forward for that Nintendo presentation, I'm sure the chat will be very civil and non toxic :)
The sarcasm in your comment is so palpable I can season my fries with it.
I would love for Silksong to be shown but I don't think it will be. I'm pretty sure they're still rebuilding the game in a new engine ever since the Unity nonsense.
Considering Unity went back on what they were doing and the CEO even stepping down I’m pretty sure they’re still using the same engine
Ubisoft should take the same approach as Spawn Wave. Publish the video early for a premium fee for those who want it, otherwise, watch it later but in the end it's still the full video. No extra content behind a season pass, specially a Star Wars game where the audience can be huge.
Surprisingly even the canadian amazon got some pretty good sales for physical games, I got Infinite Wealth for $40 off, im on the fence for Unicorn Overlord as thats $30 off.. Idk should I go for it too?
Yes that's a great price for it I paid full price at launch and it's my goty so far
Agreed GotY so far this year.
But seriously it might not be for you. Try that 8 hour long demo. I think you'll have your answers in the first hour.
@@Mac_Omegaly Gahh forgot about the demo thanks for the reminder, hopefully the sale is still around if I do like it after all.
I wasn't going to buy Star Wars: Outlaws anyway, so I really don't care how much they charge for any of it. I just jumped back into Elden Ring again in prep for the expansion, and that is keeping me pretty busy as I am playing through with a variety of builds and weapons.
Take 2 will layoff 600 employees to post more profit this quarter to investors. 6 mounts to a year later they will hire most to all of these positions back. The layoff cycle of corporate America
Well you would think they were understaffed considering the quality of the GTA trilogy…
That’s a huge sale for GameStop. I’m probably gonna pick up the RE4 remake, Dragons Dogma 2 and Astral Chain just bc

Man, it is such a stark contrast to have the Indie World game news next to the Ubisoft news. One is full of hope and excitement, while the other is just one example of the toxic mindset of AAA developers. Really gives you pause for thought of the current gaming landscape.
Team Cherry could have a blog post that only had the release date in it and the internet would explode. They don't need to have the announcement at any event, let alone a Nintendo Indie event.
I genuinely look at Nintendo Indie Directs as something that is either okay to who cares. If they really want to draw people in to an indie direct, they should include something big from them or if it's a major reveal from a third party. Only indie game I know of that would make it a good one is if they revealed Hades 2's release date.
You are missing the point about being INDIE.
There are potential big games, that's kinda the point. Indie games are like panning for gold. You find it by looking, just like Hades, which was relatively unknown until it was revealed at an indie direct.
Yikes take. How is an indie game meant to become big then if theres never a chance to put it in front of a large audience of people?
What’s interesting about FFXV leaving PS+ is it was on the PS+ Collection when PS5 first came out. They got rid of the collection in favor of the new PS+ tiers.
Unicorn Overlord on Switch is currently $30 in store at a lot of Walmarts. They just had a ton of markdowns the other day on physical games!!!
If you go to a local GameStop with your disc only game and receipt, and they have a used boxed copy, they’ll usually swap it for you.
GameStop changed their entire business model to undercutting publishers when they should leaned into exclusive special editions and exclusive physical editions (like limited run games).
"Not interested in paying $600 for marginally better lighting"
This is pretty much the same reason I'm still using a ps4, actually.
Ubisoft: "Let's release our standard PR damage control BS about Star Wars Outlaws. Surely, gamers will buy it again".
Gamers: "What about The Crew? Are you really not gonna release an offline patch for it?".
Ubisoft: "The Crew? What in the world is that? What do you eat it with?".
"Wow, even Take2 is greedy" - I'm not at all surpised.
how many games even have an uncapped frame rate on console though to take advantage of the extra power without a patch?
I'll wait a couple months... Ubisoft games drop to $20 after a couple months, and then I'll wait for it to drop again.
I can't wait to see what Nintendo is cooking along with Sony and Microsoft. I'm happy we finally live in the age of affordable handheld computing.
I always just go into the store for these sales that way I know what I'm getting
Guarantee the people Take Two are laying off are contractors. They're putting everything on GTA6.
I played the demo of Another Crab's Treasure and that game does seem to have mad potential. Had no idea it was going into Game Pass before now, same with Manor Lords. Definitely giving those a go.
Ubisoft shouldn't have talked about the season pass when the game itself hasn't been released yet.
Ubisoft has been doing stuff similar to this since 360 era. Y’all remember Pre-order exclusive missions in Assassins creed and the PS3 exclusive missions?
“Incredibly profitable”
Take Two lost $1.125 billion dollars last year.
The loss is bigger than the small profits in 2022 and 2021 combined…meaning Take Two hasn’t made money in over three years.
Sony lost 20 billion the other month...
Ubisoft is saying "We are doing this because we want more money."
I'm still playing Rise of the Ronin. I'll play more of Princess Peach once I finish it.
Take Two has 12,000 employees?
I'll only buy a PS6 if there's a game I want for it. I got a PS5 for Rift Apart. Might as well get a (former) exclusive title for it.
Thank you for reminding me to unsubscribe from game pass. Nearly forgot
you are given lots of time to complete the games
The last game I ordered from Gamestop was back in like 2012. I ordered a new copy of Lost Odyssey and got a stack of four disks in sleeves and a normal generic game case that they didn't even fit into. Before that was when Too Human was recalled and I thought it would be cool to have a sealed copy so I ordered a new copy from Gamestop and they sent me one that was opened. Those on top of the countless times I got gutted "new" games from them really put me over the edge. I don't buy many physical games any more but when I do, it's not from Gamestop.
I'm not convinced Hollow Knight: Silksong really exists.
I'm fairly confident I saw some promotion of it at some point, but then Metroid Prime 4 I distinctly remember being announced too.
People are gonna buy the season pass in mass. That's the only reason there's an outcry.
GranBlue Fantasy is heat you made a good purchase.
When did heat be a thing? I thought you might say lit or fire
Harold Halibut is an interesting scifi adventure game
I can almost guarantee people are going to be massively disappointed in gta 6.
Ubisoft overestimates the power of the Star Wars IP, and that is why they'll fail.
It's like Ubisoft learned nothing from EA's mishandling of Star Wars. Ubisoft wouldn't even be making a Star Wars game without EA's mistakes, and now they're doing the same thing.
Star Wars Outlaws should have learned from Battlefront 2 they have already effected their sales. Its really stupid because by locking content behind a more expensive tier costs them more in the long run. When they do not do that kind of thing the sales from the regular game could have been super high, but now many like me have already decided to pass on the game so they have a ton of lost sales so in the end they lose more money than they could have made had they just made players happy.
Been burned on used games from GameStop enough times that I never order used from them anymore. I am a CIB collector and having to track down the box and decent, non jacked up cover art/manual just isn't worth it. Loose discs from GameStop and then the hunt on eBay to complete the game is why I have two discs and one box for Spec Ops: The Line, three discs and two boxes for Dying Light, and 2 discs, one box and two manuals for Alan Wake.
I’m slowly watching a disaster unfold. Those plugs or a comb over front to back?
My recent experience with GameStop was yesterday I was shopping in that area where it was located and I saw that it was closed and boarded up
Nintendo is killing it with their GAMES!!!!!!!!!
I just have to laugh at GameStop sales. Like, who the hell trades their games in still at GameStop?!
Next gen console is going to be hard because most devs would have just released games probably without knowing the full capability of the series s/x & ps5. Dev kits go out in the next 2 years and we currently still have cross gen titles coming out.
The Nintendo showcase was terrible 😆 😂 I was actually shocked at how bad it was 😂
It wasn't bad at all, a lot of different games were shown, it's just that nothing appealed to you, which is different.
ill never understand Season pass in single player games you buy at full price, but i can understand in Free to play games
.
It's not really a new concept, it's pretty much the same as the expansion packs of old. Now they just charge you for it up front and say you'll get it at some point and put it out in chunks.
Its expansions not a battle pass
It use to make sense in the past when the term was used in the sense that A Season Pass would grant you access to all the DLC released without purchasing them individually. Nowadays it's mostly changed to play to unlock but you still need to pay

Silksong is probably going to be an Xbox exclusive of some kind, either a full on exclusive or a timed exclusive, also, the ninja turtles game was an exclusive to apple arcade until now

In my experience, you can usually count on a complete pre-owned copy from GameStop, if it’s a newer release.
Let's be clear, Take Two didn't *need* to lay off people. They did it because they can
You have literally no idea what's going on behind the scenes. None.
People like to think these big companies have unlimited money and that operating costs aren't a thing. Games are more expensive to make. Production times have ballooned out with those budgets. They can't afford to take risks. We can see all this in real time and you think ...what? That they should have kept those 600 people out of charity? Get real.
I was going to say the exact same thing. It's fueled solely by greed.
@@neonsheep3358I agree on principle but part of the dichotomy is also when all these companies report massive/record profits then turn around and lay off workers, then we hear the numbers on exec’s salaries/bonuses for a year. That’s where most of the ire arises imo.

The only way I ever buy preowned form Gamestop is in store where i can see if the copy is complete. Gamestop doesnt give a damn and will send you whatever. Imagine buying Princess Peach at $55 and you only get the game lol, im good.
Game companies keep doing money grabs to try and get more money. Look at some of the biggest games in the last few years, Elden Ring and BG3 they are beloved and sold amazingly. However they didn't nickel and dime me. Companies need to learn to read the room.
The PS5 Pro sound more and more like what this gen was supposed to be and the regular PS5 is a half gen offering an improvement over last gen of only an SSD. The teraflops don't seem to mean anything. The PS4 is 1.84 and the PS5 is 10.28. That should guarantee 60 fps with graphics that is "obviously" better. Yet no. The PS5 only delivered shorter load times. Maybe this is the reason why the PS5 Pro has not been officially been announced. It is fiction as well.
You guys thought we would see Silksong today, lol.
I love Fenyx Rising and that is going to be hard to play because of this Ubisoft situation. I love having Game Pass because of randomly playing a game once in a while. Thing is I stick to my personal collection because they won't go away (well maybe the won't go away).
