Microsoft made a good business decision, but Xbox, for the long term, didn't. It's an important distinction to make. Xbox console sales have flatlined in many parts of Europe and they won't ever come back without exclusive games that attract. The Xbox brand is quite simply centered around the console, the DirectX box and they will inevitably lose that at some point. If those Xbox games on PS5 were also completely Xbox Live integrated, it would have propagated and possibly strengthened the Xbox brand, but they aren't. In the console market, content has always been king.

I played Ryse again recently, and I can't believe how well it holds up against the latest generation games. It's beautiful, and I loved the story. Even though it was short.

I’m team Nintendo as I think both Microsoft and Sony are garbage. Nintendo is the only one that keeps things interesting and still does things the old way because the old ways are best.
This is what I've been saying all along. For the industry to evolve, changes like these are inevitable. Yes, there will always be consoles & different ecosystems to play them on, just like there are different TV's & other devices. But if these platform owners want to keep making more money, they MUST bring their titles to other platforms. Maybe not all of them. But certainly a certain amount of titles & games which lend themselves to crossplay.
Funny you say that folks who buy consoles want to sit down on a couch, in front of a TV and don't want to sit in a chair at a desk and monitor. I'm a PC Gamer who sits on the couch with my 55 inch Gaming TV and plays with a XB controller. My keyboard and mouse sit on my coffee table until I need them and usually sit on my lap or couch when I do use them. I don't really use them for gaming though, as most games have controller options.

Im not buying any AAA game until its in a game of the year edition. I'm done buying games then missing out on certain items and costumes. This kinda has to happen mainly for studios. The cost for production alone warrants to getting games to the most possible customers as possible. It hit me with movies a while back when I realized some movies are exclusive to theater chains. Instead of going to the sweet lounge chair theater 3 mins away, I have to make a 20 min drive, pay for parking, walk another 5 mins etc. I just waited for streaming.
You can connect a PC to a TV in HDMI and use a gamepad. It's what I do with my PC and I just use a compact wireless logitech keyboard K400+ with trackpad for browsing the web and watching youtube video while seating on my couch

I think this idea could save the industry because it costs so much to make a game now that the price of the games are going to be going up just so they can keep making new games so if they port over games to their competitors and they could both benefit from it could bring the industry back to where they can take more chances and try new things in the future
I always hold PC exclusives in high regard but the points you made AND the price to keep it going is just insane. I enjoy playing Descent and the original Diablo from time to time. Heretic series is awesome as well.
Kind of tricky cause COD is only technically MS, take ABK out of the equation and the pie will looks totally different. Tho, i get it, from now on ABK is MS, so they has to take decisions looking at that.

To be fair, prior to the Fallout games and Call of Duty games being bought by Microsoft, those games were always popular on PlayStation. I would say Sea of Thieves, then yes that’s an Xbox game built from the ground up by Microsoft Studios. Even Grounded yes that’s an Xbox game built in house by Microsoft Studios not a bought out studio game.
I think its a great idea, i do like the idea of the delay to other consoles so you have some sense of exclusivity. Ill tell ya right now, ive always wanted to play Halo and Gears of War but i was never gonna get an Xbox to play them. I've always been a PS and NES person and i have enough games up there to make time to play, so there wont be another console added to the mix

Im 53 been gaming since 2600.I have quite a collection of older systems I've grown up with and enjoy. Currently I have a killer custom P.C ,PS4 Pro, Series S. Never cared for console wars just games and the happiness it has brought me through the years. Being a Regional Mgr does hurt my gaming time but let me get a off day and I'm brought back to simpler times and it definitely relaxes me !

I think they should all be doing this. Just about finding the window of where the buys of the games fall by the wayside enough and you want to keep it relevant. Great video but you missed the point on some of the things you said. You talk about how Microsoft releasing older games on the PS5 but that is not the true point. Hi fi rush and Pentiment not that old was mainly due to being smaller type games one a passion project. Grounded and Sea of Thieves it is not about them being older Grounded the full game released 2022, it is about them being live service or Game As A Service game. Phil even spoke how he does not believe live service games should be stuck on one platform, so a statement saying Ryse maybe going to the PS5 because it is an older game in my opinion is not what Microsoft is doing. I do agree that Microsoft might look at Killer Instinct as a game to port over being a fighting game with a Live service aspect to it.
I hope they do throw some to PlayStation, I'm just a PlayStation dude. I had a Xbox 360 and that was the last Xbox I bought. I have nothing against Xbox just PlayStation was around first and that's what I played so I continue playing it. That's why I got really upset when Bethesda was bought out by Microsoft same as rareware. When you factor in the cost of the aquisitions though, Sony most likely is ahead of Microsoft in terms of revenue vs expenditure. Xbox has to recoup aquisition costs, then move forward with a net zero profit on all of those IP's. Xbox is in the best position to really leverage this long-term, but it seems like they can't get out of their own way this generation.

I’m the same way I game mostly on console reason being because most of my friends and family game on consoles. I use my gaming PC for live streaming, editing and my online classes and my gaming PC is RTX4080TI. I only play certain games on PC. I will always prefer consoles
I have a ps5 and bought grounded and sea of theives. They weren't enough to make me buy an Xbox but they looked fun and recieved good reviews so why not. Plus they came out at a good time where there aren't any big titles at the moment until stellar blade drops anyway. I'm happy with my purchases. Grounded ended up being a good time.
I grew up on conceals but as I'm getting older. I found myself gaming on PC more than conceals especially with the PS5 lacking heavily for exclusive games. But don't get me wrong I love conceals.
For me its not even about exclusives, i dont like single player experiences bc my goldfish attention span doesnt allow me to play without getting bored after 2 hours, and also i far prefer the simple design of both the physical console and the easy ui of the xbox, i love that im able to hop in a party with my friends and chill on the couch and i can even move audio from discord to my xbox for some friends who dont have a headset or something.
And I can't forget about the looking for group options in the menus, I've met some really fun and different people I would never meet in any other circumstance, for example I met a kid from Africa to play grounded with using a looking for group, THROUGH A SIEGE POST
I think if nothing else, it proves that Xbox does make and have a catalog of great games. So many people left Xbox with the launch of the Xbox One and understandably so. This could be their way to finally bring those fans back and honestly I hope it works. I own every console so I’m not trying to be a fanboy. I love all my systems, and I want to see them all succeed.
I’m waiting for the original State of Decay. I think that game will do well on PS. It’s a proper WD game imo. If Gears comes over will get that for sure along with Crackdown.
Microsoft should allow XBox owners to game with keyboard and mouse, plus allow all VR headsets to be playable on XBox. That will definitely boost up the XBox platform exponentially.
I'd say titles that have been on ps4/ps5 before mergers don't necessarily count. They had power on Playstation well before they were for XBox. Now as for the recent once exclusive titles, yeah they should and the anticipation around them should also be counted. Yes I do believe they could pull major bank on other platforms. I would personally love to see fable 1-3 an Halo Master Cheif collection come over to Playstation despite the fact I own them on XBox. Playstation is my main platform.
At $5 or $8 a shot as Shawn Layden might say…there aren’t enough nickels in that box to stack up to the $100B+ MS spent and is spending on salaries in those acquisitions. As to the interest in Sea of Thieves, it’s an actual Xbox exclusive at one time. I suspect people’s interest is piqued. As I’ve said in the past most PlayStation gamers just want the franchises that have always been multi-platform, but they aren’t going to jump (and never did) for them and especially not Sea of Thieves.

Older XBox games going over to PS5 makes sense to me. I mean, I would never buy a XBox to play these games, but would check them out if made available on PlayStation. In this way, MS isn’t losing revenue on me not buying an XBox but getting more through the game sales. If a game is an XBox exclusive then I will always pass on it.
I got a switch, ps5, series x and a steam deck. I play the steam deck more than anything now. Honestly think this was my last console set. I can play virtually everything on steam deck. For the price I could’ve bought a pc and played games better than they run on ps5. I think console wars are dead with everything eventually going on pc now

For most gamers they can only afford one console, and no way they have a gaming rig. I prefer Playstation over Xbox, when I was still up to date with games. I was interested in Xbox exclusive games, but, I liked PS exclusive games more. If they had been available on PS I would have bought them.
I chose one console by choice and I choose Nintendo because both Xbox and PlayStation suck balls. Nintendo is the only one that resonates with me through nostalgia and them stick into the traditional ways of doing gaming which is the best way plus they are still flying physical flag for games..

I'm surprised that 4 out of 6, not counting Call of Duty, are among the top 25 selling games on PS5, especially considering they were available before Microsoft's 100% acquisition. I own all three systems so I can play whatever game comes to what consul and if I feel like I should be able to play a PlayStation game on an Xbox I should if I should be able to play Nintendo game on an Xbox I should maybe some kind of adapter or something or switch but either way I think it’s a good idea to have whatever game on any console you wanna play and what control do you wanna play with?
I think they should all be doing this. Just about finding the window of where the buys of the games fall by the wayside enough and you want to keep it relevant. Or better the sequel is coming out in the next 6 to 12 months and you want to boost system and game sales for it. Drop it on another console make new one exclusive bam money made

Great video but you missed the point on some of the things you said. You talk about how Microsoft releasing older games on the PS5 but that is not the true point. Hi fi rush and Pentiment not that old was mainly due to being smaller type games one a passion project. Grounded and Sea of Thieves it is not about them being older Grounded the full game released 2022, it is about them being live service or Game As A Service game. Phil even spoke how he does not believe live service games should be stuck on one platform, so a statement saying Ryse maybe going to the PS5 because it is an older game in my opinion is not what Microsoft is doing. I do agree that Microsoft might look at Killer Instinct as a game to port over being a fighting game with a Live service aspect to it.
Hot take having ps games and xbox games won't kill the console if the put them on all platform.

I hope they do throw some to PlayStation, I'm just a PlayStation dude. I had a Xbox 360 and that was the last Xbox I bought. I have nothing against Xbox just PlayStation was around first and that's what I played so I continue playing it. That's why I got really upset when Bethesda was bought out by Microsoft same as rareware. Bethesda I can understand but rareware should have just stayed with Nintendo that was donkey Kong's Glory Days, and I'm not bothered with fallout at the moment because fallout 76 is only online and I'm not all about that I like having an open world that I can just mess around in alone in without internet. Maybe I'm just getting old but gaming used to be a little more fun now it's starting to seem like a money scheme and honestly I think this console war thing is just a generate more money. Because why on one console with you can own three.

8:30 Hardware sales don’t have razor thin profit margins, they lose money. Modern consoles are sold at $100-200 less than it costs to make them.
When you factor in the cost of the aquisitions though, Sony most likely is ahead of Microsoft in terms of revenue vs expenditure. Xbox has to recoup aquisition costs, then move forward with a net zero profit on all of those IP's. Xbox is in the best position to really leverage this long-term, but it seems like they can't get out of their own way this generation.

Yea Im an old head when it comes to that. I buy games I like regardless of platform. If the box has something I want I'll got that and the same with sony any Nintendo. I thought we left the console wars in the 1900s
I’m the same way I game mostly on console reason being because most of my friends and family game on consoles. I use my gaming PC for live streaming, editing and my online classes and my gaming PC is RTX4080TI. I only play certain games on PC. I will always prefer consoles
I have a ps5 and bought grounded and sea of theives. They weren't enough to make me buy an Xbox but they looked fun and recieved good reviews so why not. Plus they came out at a good time where there aren't any big titles at the moment until stellar blade drops anyway. I'm happy with my purchases. Grounded ended up being a good time.
I grew up on conceals but as I'm getting older. I found myself gaming on PC more than conceals especially with the PS5 lacking heavily for exclusive games. But don't get me wrong I love conceals.
Then theres me wanting helldivers to go to xbox.....we need help lol

For me its not even about exclusives, i dont like single player experiences bc my goldfish attention span doesnt allow me to play without getting bored after 2 hours, and also i far prefer the simple design of both the physical console and the easy ui of the xbox, i love that im able to hop in a party with my friends and chill on the couch and i can even move audio from discord to my xbox for some friends who dont have a headset or something.
And I can't forget about the looking for group options in the menus, I've met some really fun and different people I would never meet in any other circumstance, for example I met a kid from Africa to play grounded with using a looking for group, THROUGH A SIEGE POST

I think if nothing else, it proves that Xbox does make and have a catalog of great games. So many people left Xbox with the launch of the Xbox One and understandably so. This could be their way to finally bring those fans back and honestly I hope it works. I own every console so I’m not trying to be a fanboy. I love all my systems, and I want to see them all succeed.

Microsoft should allow XBox owners to game with keyboard and mouse, plus allow all VR headsets to be playable on XBox. That will definitely boost up the XBox platform exponentially.
I'd say titles that have been on ps4/ps5 before mergers don't necessarily count. They had power on Playstation well before they were for XBox. Now as for the recent once exclusive titles, yeah they should and the anticipation around them should also be counted. Yes I do believe they could pull major bank on other platforms. I would personally love to see fable 1-3 an Halo Master Cheif collection come over to Playstation despite the fact I own them on XBox. Playstation is my main platform.
At $5 or $8 a shot as Shawn Layden might say…there aren’t enough nickels in that box to stack up to the $100B+ MS spent and is spending on salaries in those acquisitions.
As to the interest in Sea of Thieves, it’s an actual Xbox exclusive at one time. I suspect people’s interest is piqued.
As I’ve said in the past most PlayStation gamers just want the franchises that have always been multi-platform, but they aren’t going to jump (and never did) for them and especially not Sea of Thieves.
Including call of duty and fallout seems a tad bit disingenuous but in a literal sense I get it

Likely part of the approved merger deal. Also, Sony will have Halo TV series if they merge with Paramount.
There won't be a season 3 of the Halo TV series, so Sony won't get it, and frankly, they don't need it.

Fallout series is nice movement for Microsoft but they must make Xbox exclusive for next Fallout games.

Older XBox games going over to PS5 makes sense to me. I mean, I would never buy a XBox to play these games, but would check them out if made available on PlayStation. In this way, MS isn’t losing revenue on me not buying an XBox but getting more through the game sales. If a game is an XBox exclusive then I will always pass on it.
I think it's only fair for old Xbox exclusives to go to PlayStation if old Playstation games come to Xbox.

I got a switch, ps5, series x and a steam deck. I play the steam deck more than anything now. Honestly think this was my last console set. I can play virtually everything on steam deck. For the price I could’ve bought a pc and played games better than they run on ps5. I think console wars are dead with everything eventually going on pc now
Console wars will remain alive and kicking if I have anything to say about it and it will be console versus PC and I cannot stand PC as well as PlayStation and Xbox so I don’t discriminate in things I hate 🤣🤣
For most gamers they can only afford one console, and no way they have a gaming rig. I prefer Playstation over Xbox, when I was still up to date with games. I was interested in Xbox exclusive games, but, I liked PS exclusive games more. If they had been available on PS I would have bought them.
I have Nintendo Switch which is my primary console, only got an XBOX One years later once the Series consoles came out and the One was dirt cheap.
I chose one console by choice and I choose Nintendo because both Xbox and PlayStation suck balls. Nintendo is the only one that resonates with me through nostalgia and them stick into the traditional ways of doing gaming which is the best way plus they are still flying physical flag for games..
The fact that Rise of the Ronin didn't sell well either proves that being exclusive to PlayStation consoles is not as lucrative as it once was in the past.
I think it's about time. I feel console wars are getting smaller lately. So let the games go to another console to help gain more sales

I'm surprised that 4 out of 6, not counting Call of Duty, are among the top 25 selling games on PS5, especially considering they were available before Microsoft's 100% acquisition. Also Iam never going to tweaktown again they have 9 url imbedded that is questionable/flagged 1 or two sure whatever 9 warnings is way to much careful where you click.
