Went to my local bank and asked for two dollar bills. They had one and it was in bad shape. I asked "when do you get new ones in?" They said they didn't get twos in. I said " so you don't get much call for them huh?" The lady said "OH yes, all the time". I said "Huh?, people ask for them but you don't carry them? Good thing you're not a retail business." "You would be out of business in no time flat"
Can you tell that bank that they can order them from the Federal reserve?
That was the boomerest comment down here.
Coins 50c and dollar coins same..... they get them from circulation and hold them till circulation asks. Collectors are collecting.
What will be the cost of 2 dollar red cil bill?
I always keep a few 2$ bills in my money clip, and I just looked, and I have a red stamp 1963 series! Thanks for the info.
At one time I had 1,000 2$ bills. I wonder how many were red???
Depending on when you got them, at least a few.
Great video, man! Well put together -- with some beautiful animations -- and very informative! Thanks again!

Thanks red seal background. I love the color.

I’ve been lucky in the past asking bank tellers for 2 dollar bills. Really old ones came my way. I actually gave one away as a part of a tip because it’s condition was so bad it hurt to look at it. The bank should have destroyed it or sent back to federal reserve to destroy it. What I’d really like to find in my stocking in Christmas some day is a 5000 dollar bill. They’re way out of circulation which makes them so valuable. So I’d settle for a ten dollar coin. They can be worth a bunch of money depending on variables. Because the intrinsic value always stays put.
Thank you for the feed back
I have a red seal $2 I got when working at a bank in 2001. A customer inherited a PO Box that had old bills from 1965. I swap cash for the bill bc I had never seen the red before. Now I know!!!
And yes.... I still have the bill all these years latter.

I have always been fascinated by $2 bills! Ever since my first niece was born in 1992 I started enclosing $2 bills, 50 Cent pieces, and $1 coins when they came out, in her birthday cards, as well as *every* child’s birthday card in my family & for friends children since then. I always encouraged the children and their parents to save some (if not all) of those notes and coins. (Don’t worry, they received “everyday” money they could spend, along with their gifts too. 😉 😊) Unfortunately, not a single person has _even one_ note _or coin_ that I’ve given them through the years. 🤷🏼♀️
*Funny story:*
For the past 20 years, or so, whenever I get paid, I go to the bank and get as many $2 they have just to spend in my everyday life. It’s always fun to see the expression on people’s faces when you pay for something with $2 bills. It never ceases to amaze me how many people don’t realize $2 bills are *real money* though. On more than one occasion I’ve had people flat out tell me that they aren’t real. However, no one can top the experience I had at a KFC several years ago. The young lady behind the counter was _extremely_ rude, telling me that I can’t use “Monopoly money” to pay for my food. I tried to explain to her that it was real, and if she didn’t want to take them as payment I’d gladly pay with a $20 bill. _However,_ she took it a step further and *refused* to give me my $2 bills back, and threatened to call the police on me for *FRAUD!* I asked for the manager, and _even he_ said that there isn’t any such thing as $2 bills; and now they *both* refused to give my money back to me, and I was told to leave and *never* come back. Finally, after a lengthy standoff, the manager finally called the police, telling them I was trying to pay for food with “fake” money. As soon as they called the police I sat my happy butt down and waited for the fun to begin. Both the cashier _and manager_ were taunting me, laughing while exclaiming how they couldn’t wait to see me carted off to jail in handcuffs. I just quietly sat there smiling.
I’m sure you can picture their embarrassment when two police officers showed up, expecting to arrest some chic trying to commit fraud, only to finally be _convinced_ (yes, they had to be convinced, even from _two_ police officers) that $2 bills are in fact, *real money.*
That's great! Thanks for sharing.
Happens fairly often, especially where the employees are poorly educated low wage workers. Also happens at gas stations owned by new immigrants. They sometimes think half and dollar coins aren't real money. So, before we fully implement artificial intelligence it would be a better idea to do something about natural stupidity.

Bet that was expensive
****I remember a story from an old friend that used $2 notes in giving change in his Texas Inspection business. People loved it, but few rejected them as if cursed. At Christmas he gifted some to his grandchildren and one went complaining to their mother and stated, "Why did Papaw give us fake money?" Loved the story, but miss the old guy more. Some people spend their entire life to get so little at the end, and so few get sooo much with so little.
Great tale - thanks for sharing. Those grandchildren aren't the only ones who think $2s are fake money! I make them available on my film's website, and the main question that I get (so often that I had to add it an FAQ section) is, "are they real?". Of course they are!
I have a 1953 series * note red seal $2 bill thats serial number starts with * 0000. I understand that the signifies a reprint of the original bill. Couple of questions, does the * in 1953 also mean the bill was reprinted? Does the low serial number starting 0000 add any value to the note?

The B is for New York but placed at Boston @1:42
The B is actually placed in the Manhattan area, so it's in New York in our eyes. Because the size of the letters we used was a bit large, the A for Boston got pushed down the coast a bit. Officially, the Series 1963A was the last issued red seal $2 note. That had been printed and issued til about the late 60's in limited quantities. It has the Fowler signature as Secretary of the Treasury, not Dillon's. Still worth keeping however.
Correct. We started this video thinking we would mention the A-G series of 1928s, the A-C of 1953 as well as the 1963A. But it got tedious so we took it out. Still interesting that the 1963 series in total had such a small printing before the bill was officially removed from circulation.
Youre right, theyre worth a total of 2 dollars🤣🤣
You didn't cover the 1966 series United States note $100 bill.
That was the very last United States note ever issued by the federal government.
So what's the deal with that?
Roger Sheddy. Good point. Those are very scarce to rare. Here's the lowdown in my opinion. Most of those really didn't circulate because #1. The 1966 Series with the Granahan-Fowler signature combination was printed during a one month span in 1968 to fulfill the obligation of having a certain dollar amount of United States Notes in circulation. #2. Star notes in the 1966 series are quite rare, a very miniscule amount printed. #3. The 1966A with Elston-Kennedy signature combination printed in 1971; is going to be rare only because presumably most of those notes were destroyed in the 90's as they were remained in Treasury vaults marked as unissued.
I think you'll be interested to know...

Why some people think that 2 dollar bill are rare and think it's give bad lucky and people don't used like other bills ?
Are there only 1900s - 1970s 2 dollar bills?

We have to stop deficit spending first, @@2Truth4Liberty. You know President Trump wants to. Can he?
@@KenJackson_US Theoretically deficit spending is not a problem IF you first switch back to US NOTES.
And, in fact, even with deficits could put an end to the federal income tax and use tariffs and deficit spending to fund government. This is how it was done throughout history. There was no Federal Income Tax for most of the history of the US. The key being not to run deficits so high that they cause high inflation.
Oy Vey! Easy there!
When is the next year of printing and do they plan to change the backside anytime soon?
Great question, but it's impossible to answer the first part because no one knows until the Federal Reserve analyzes their data and determines what - if anything - their next print order should be. To answer the second part of the question... no, they don't.
Enjoyed the info about the red seal 2 dollar bill. Do you have any information regarding the red seal 5 dollar bill printed in that same year of 1963? Is there any value in them beyond face value? Also what can you tell me about it being not only a red seal but a star note as well?
Honestly don't know much about $5s. We made a documentary feature film about the $2s ( amzn.to/2gpRKum ) and so a lot of research went there. Didn't have a need to learn much about any other denomination except when it affected the $2 bill. I imagine the red seal $5s are in fact worth just a little more than face value, unless the condition is pristine and perhaps if it has a star with the serial number.

oh wow...I had no idea 2 dollar bills went back that far in time.......cool ....and thumbs up !!!
Thanks! They actually go back to 1862, but I have other videos on my channel that address that.
You mentioned that when the currency became smaller in 1928, that only the 1, 2, and 5's were issued in red seals. However, you forgot about the 1966 series $100 bill. That bill also has a red seal.
I'm a avid collector of United states notes so this video was like cat nip to me.
Thanks for the comment. We actually didn't forget about the 1966 $100 - we just chose to leave it out. In writing the script for this piece and including that bill, it was tough to piece together a chronology knowing we were describing what happened in 1928, but then having to mention a 1966 bill (which is when the $2 was discontinued). So for purposes of not making this video about a $2 bill overly confusing, we decided that the $100 bill was not a key component to tell this story.
I also had a 10 backed by silver but that was also spent. I hate my aunt
Lmfao
No... it's not legal
Only Congress is supposed to print our currency, the fed isn't constitutionally legal
The Monticello on the back $2 United States Note was replaced with the engraving of John Trumbull's painting, “Declaration of Independence” on the back of $2 Federal Reserve Note, released in 1976. Although the original painting depicts 47 men, space constraints meant that only 42 could appear on the note.
Correct. We've covered that in several other videos on this channel, as well as in our full feature film.
I have a $3 bill, it had Bill Clinton on the front. The back is pretty funny too!
Once there was this man ballin, he had 100 of these just to order a sausage biscuit and every single day.
I have a well circulated 1928G 2 dollar bill as a collector item
Left to me when my grandpa passed. It means more to me than cashing it in. Maybe someday in my lifetime or my future generations lifetime it may be worth something but not now.
If you ever wanted to sell it, you could probably get a few bucks above face value for it, even if it's well circulated. That's because 1928s aren;t always easy to come by. But you're doing the right thing saving it. I encourage people to get and spend $2 bills, but not if one or more that they have are passed down from family or otherwise have sentimental value. Those are keepers.
I also have a 1928G red seal $2 note but mine is gently circulated. Have you found the value of yours yet?
Thank You Very Much
Glad it helped
I had a dream about these red notes once but that was before I learned of them. I remember in my dream finding a bundle of these notes but they were all in red lettering. Past life I suppose.
Or maybe it will come true and you'll feel a sense of deja vu.
I have a 1963 $2 bill that has an F4 in the upper left corner on the front and an F3 on the bottom right corner, also on the front. In another of your videos, it said these #'s should always match. Is this a mess up, giving this bill more value?
The LETTERS always match. The numbers do not. The number on the lower right is the Plate Serial Number. The number top left is the position of where that bill was located on the sheet. Even I had to watch the video again to be sure, but that's how it works. The numbers themselves do not need to match. You do not have a bill with a mess up, but the fact that is is a 1963 with a red seal gives it a little more value.
Where did the design come from, and also how many designs were there in the past?
We have several videos on our channel that answer this. One of them is the first fact of this video: czcams.com/video/FQJGDgCJGpA/video.html As for where designs come from, try this one: czcams.com/video/w4XQTMToMKc/video.html

About 10 years ago, I visited Ecuador which uses US currency. I made the mistake of taking some US$2.00 bills, but I had trouble finding anyone who would accept the bill. I was told that Ecuadorian banks would not accept US$2.00 as deposits. Several Ecuadorians told me that the US $2.00 was considered bad luck. In the future, no more $US2.00, but the Ecuadorians were thrilled whenever I paid with the Kennedy half dollar.

Is it true they stopped printing 2 dollar bills in 2017? If so does that make them more desirable? Also are there 2 dollar web notes?
They've printed them since 2017, and they will continue to print them as long as demand hold up. No green seal $2 bill (any since 1976) are worth more than $2 unless it's got a fancy serial number or error. Like any bill, it's worth its face value.
