Went to 10 banks in 24 hours seeking $2 bills - how many did I get? Hidden camera challenge

- Don't think you can get $2 bills at the bank? Guess how many we got when at TEN banks in 24 hours! The director of The Two Dollar Bill Documentary uses a spy camera hidden in the button of his shirt to document - and tabulate - the number of 2 dollar bills he got from bank tellers at bank of america and citibank and others. How much cash money did he end up with? Guess, watch, and see.

I remember a story about a guy who was arrested at Best Buy for using $2.00 bills, lol, they thought they were counterfeit . Sadly, we still have uneducated people who work as cashiers.
We have a video on that on our channel: czcams.com/video/iS3yjfefUD8/video.html
Thats weird I just left a comment on this situation then seen yours!!😃
Well, why do you think Trump got voted to be President of the USA? Way too many stupid people in the USA, 70 millions of them.
I am surprised how many of the tellers knew how many bills they had without even having to check first.
The $2 bills sit there long enough, and there aren't that many relative to other bills, that it's probably easier to remember once you know the total
i pass these for tips. People seem to love them, as much as i love giving them. Win WIN
Hehehe plz give the 1934 year of 100,000 usd uhh woodrow wlson gold certificate as tips hehehe no just kidding those hey hey wait a minute this dude is gonna cause RUNS on 2 doolar bills XD ykwis
I paid for some groceries with a two dollar bill and the cashier gave me change back for a five. I told her that I had given her a $2 bill she looked at me like I was nuts.
Surprised you said anything. :)
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary It's called integrity.
Currency hunters go through many two dollar bills and almost never score something rare, let alone a red seal, yet, you just went to ten banks to ask for twos, and the very last one had three red seals, unbelieveable.
Yeah, I was quite shocked myself. What that tells me is someone deposited them, and the teller didn't look at each one - just ran through a counter and then tucked the stack into a drawer until I showed up. Had they seen them, they certainly would have removed them.
If I had gotten three red seals they would have thought I had just hit the lottery with my reaction lol
Right
The bank does carry them; but depending of demand from their branches, I just call them to see if they have them before I waste my gas.
Joe Luis they do did u watch the video or go to the bank?
Joe Luis, lot of times, some banks, will, be "HAPPY" to get rid of them. It's a hit or miss.. Or... if conditions are right, you'll hit "PAY" dirt! Prayer DOES work! Sometimes, I contradict myself.. I hate that. :-/ Yet, an Angel will tell me, to visit this bank, and it cheers me up... :)
I go to the bank tomhet $2 bills every so often. Last time I went I got $600 worth and 576 of them were uncirculated with the straps. I called the next day to see if they had anymore and they had $600 more so I,got them too. All in all about 500 of the 600 $2 bills were uncirculated. I spend the remainder and keep the uncirculated ones. I felt like I hit the jackpot. Main branches seem to have the most bills. I,also found a va ppl ueanle error bill and a low serial number bill in the lot. I am 66 and have never received a $2 in change.
Last week I went to 5 different US Bank branches in the Minneapolis area and 3 of them had zero $2s available, 1 had $18 worth and one had $40. One branch said they had $400 worth on order, I'm going to check back there on Monday and see if they got them yet.
Here I thought I was the only goof ball that searched out hunting for $2.00 bills. I carry and spend about $30 to $40 each week in my area. I try to buy the strapped bundle with all serial numbers in order, but will buy whatever Ican find. Thanks for the video
Thanks for the comment! Good to know I'm not the only goofball that does this either.
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary why do you do it?
@@azansnumber1fan668 Why? I made a documentary film about $2s and now have this channel, so I'm interested in making new content, and I also like using the currency.
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary nice!
My first 200 strap were all sequential ! I just got them yesterday. I even got some cool serials :)
It's harder to get Kennedy half-dollar's at a bank than $2 bills.
I think you're right. But this channel is about$2s, so we're not ready to hit 10 banks for an experiment about Kennedy half dollars!
REALLY? Dam, I used to get Kennedy half-dollars as change ALL the frickin' time when I was a kid....'course, I grew up in the '70s...........
Lots of other channels can tell you if they are rare.
There are other channels that buy whole $500 boxes of halves, where they rip open the rolls looking for 40% and 90% silver as well as post-2000 halves not intended for circulation. Some even find Walking Liberty halves from 1916-1947!

In the 1980s spending with 2 dollar bills was a civil rights move.
May 4th, 2020... I picked up $100.00 of $2.00's at a bank, 85 miles north of me. I waited for the teller due to the Covid-19 social distancing, and the other day, April 30, 2020, I scored $50.00 at a drive thru... May 1st, 2020, I scored $12.00 bucks in $2.00's. The problem? No air conditioning in the Texas Heat! :) I do have a good / bad experience, finding $2.00's.. Usually in crisp or worn condition. No Red Seals... "YET" Then I spent $20.00 worth of $2.00's at a car wash charity... ;) Thanks John for inspiring me.
Interesting... the biggest $2 dollar bill thing I was involved in was the company I worked at for years paid all employees a $100 bonus in two dollar bills ... this was back in 1996 ... the small town (pop 1500) hated us for a long time lol ... I remember lots of ice chests filled with two dollar bills ... we had to order them from the People’s Bank at Louin Ms ... big news in east Central Mississippi... lol
Many companies still do this - giving bonuses to employees in $2 bills and directing them to spend it in town to show their impact on the local economy. Some businesses just use it to be remembered. Here's a video we did on the subject. czcams.com/video/GqS-_JdA_L8/video.html
There's a guy in my neighborhood that installed a wishing well for his daughter in his front yard. Every time I walk by his house while taking my dog for a walk, I drop in a 50-cent piece or dollar coin. She gets really excited checking every week or two to see what is there. About every 3 months I go to the bank and buy about $20 in these coins. Worth it!
That's awesome! I'd probably drop in a few $2s (even though they'd get soaked). Thanks for sharing.
Amazing that these are sold on Amazon or eBay as if they are rare collectibles.... When I worked at a large chain store, our store manager bought every one that came in (this was back in the 1970's). I wonder if he got any rare ones...?
I went to eat at a restaurant that a buddy of mine owns. After I paid the bill via the young waitress, I tipped her in $2 bills. My buddy called me later on and said the girl was pissed. She thought they were fake! LOL
Yeah, when I tip in $2 bills, I have to let the person know that they need to spend them. They might think I gave them a collectible that they subsequently won't spend, which in turn makes them think I stiffed them as far as a cash tip.
I hope she didn't throw them away before she found out they're real.
@@anthonythorp7291 yeah, my friend, the owner, explained that the money was real. The girl had never seen a $2 bill before and thought it was fake money.
Wow I really enjoyed this video. I didn’t think that many banks had 2 dollar bills.
Thank you for the comment! Glad you enjoyed it.
I live in San Antonio and my bank has them all the time. The vault teller orders them from the reserve. I use them as tips and monetary gifts. Always have a cache of 2$ bills to use.
Great to hear that. Thanks for commenting.
I’m glad you do these documentaries because I have an ancestor on the back of a two dollar bill his name is Robert Morris
Is he a grand uncle? How are you related? That's pretty cool.
Greetings from the UK! 🇬🇧
I plan to visit the USA for the first time at some point in the next few years (maybe even sooner if I get one of the jobs I’m hunting for!) and when I do cross the Atlantic, I definitely plan on hunting out a few $2s - whereas I’ve often found US banknotes lying around at places like coinstars and vending machines (mostly $1 through $10 bills stuffed into stuff like the coin slots for the latter - not sure why people would try jamming them into the machine there of all places!) I’ve never found a $2 in the wild in the UK, with the exception of eBay listings. I might bring some home with me as souvenirs :)
Sounds good. Good luck! Then you can take them back with you and show them off. )
Back in the day when I was still living in East Texas I had a friend that had twin daughters and on September 9th 1999 they turned 18 years old. We were in Tyler Texas which is the largest city between Dallas Texas and Shreveport Louisiana. I decided to give each twin 9 $2 bills for their 18th birthday. It took me 3 days and about a dozen banks to come up with the $2 bills. The twins have told me on several occasions that it was still one of the neatest birthday gifts that they ever received!
Not an uncommon story! Twos are great to be used that way, and I'm glad to hear you tracked them down and got the response you did. Thanks for sharing your family story.
love the video - I use $2 bills for tipping when on vacation
Thanks! They do make for great tips. Try mixing some in with regular purchases
That's awesome...but I'm still sticking to $1 bills for the strippers.
Pay strippers in coins
@@eventhisidistaken a comedian did a skit about that. He said it's dark in strip joints so they may mistake them for a 20 then you get extra care. If they see it's only a $2 bill they're so amazed they dont care.
He went on about tipping waitresses. Said they're so amazed by bill they don't realize they got stiffed ( $2 instead of like $5 ).
@@eventhisidistaken There is a strip club in Charlotte that if you ask for change up front for larger bills instead of giving you ones like most clubs do they always give you twos.. its like their little gimmick
what a great video production
There is a topless bar near me that gives them as change for drinks. So people tip the bartenders $2 instead of $1.
Very popular at strip clubs across the U.S. We have a video on our channel that profiles one in Portland, Oregon.
My local Wells Fargo rarely had $2 bills on hand whenever I asked. They would order them but you needed a business account. Same goes for getting rolls/boxes of halves.
Glad we don't have an account at Wells Fargo then - none of the banks we went to in this video were WFs. We may have gone to 10 banks and got nothing.
that's weird, why would you need a business account to get $2 bills? They're not rare, and other than strip clubs lol, what companies want them?
A few years ago for a business promotion I was doing I went and had Bank of America order me from the Federal Reserve $4,000 worth of $2 bills they came as two bricks worth of bills with all sequential numbers. It was awesome AND fun giving those away and people seemed glad to have them. I don't know what's wrong with two dollar bills I would use them all the time if I had more of them but I never see them. anymore.
We had a business few yrs ago do that too. They (supposedly with permission) stamp the Bill's with wording I forget. Ruins the bill but I kept them regardless.
$2 bills are great to use for promotions or other events that either draw people's attention or even help people remember you. The only thing "wrong" with $2 bills is that people don't know much about them, and therefore assume they're rare and not good to use. But this channel is all about enlightening people about it! Thanks for your comments. There are actually some videos on this channel where you see groups using them for that very cause. Check them out.
I did an experiment similar to this one time- I went around to a few banks asking for half dollar coins, dollar coins, and $2 bills, and the $2 bills easily were the most of what the banks I went to had.
Good stuff. That's almost always going to be the case. $2s are more popular - and available - than people think.
That was great. I do have a 1928 red seal myself. I think many people will buy them so they can say they have them.
Very unusual to find red seal bills at any bank. Because they are United States Notes and not Federal Reserve Notes, banks will often send them back to the Fed, where they get destroyed. The ones we got at bank #10 must have been in a pile that got deposited by someone, and the bank just stuck them in a drawer. Thanks for the comment! Keep that 1928 bill.
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary I intend to. That bill in its day, could be exchanged for gold or silver. The funny part is,I got it when I was a delivery driver. The customer was short on cash and used that to pay for the food.
I swapped out 2 singles for it and that is how I came to have it.

Thoes banks HAD them, HAD bieng the optimum word!
Truth. The next person who walks in is SOL
There's a bar at the jersey shore that gives your change if you buy a drink or food with 2 dollar bills .gold in color I think saqajewia 1 dollar coins and Kennedy 50 cent pieces then for the quarters they ask what state your from then thats what state you get your quatrers in
I love these videos and I love the $2! Here is a question I have for you, however:
Do banks ever refuse to sell you $2 bills if you don't have an account with them?
Glad you love the $2, and I hope you're subscribed to this channel! Great question, and I wouldn't know, since for this video, I only went to banks where I had an account! That's mostly because I think you're right... banks won't make change if you're not a client. Plus here, I was making straight withdrawals since I didn't know how many they would have and I couldn't go in with alternate cash to swap for the $2s.
I tried that with a couple of banks and some wont give them to you unless you have an account with them :(
I've never been asked if I had a account when looking for $2's.
However, 10 years ago or so I went into a Wells Fargo in Minneapolis and asked for a few rolls of quarters and they said I needed a account with them. I had been to other banks getting rolls of quarters and never had a problem but apparently that is Wells Fargo policy.
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary Chase Bank I know for certain requires that you have an account with them to make change.
I live in northwest Arkansas and go to banks in the two nearest towns. Talkin about maybe 8 or 9 between the two towns and only one hasn't had $2 bills. None have ever asked if I have an account and I have been doing it for about 14 or 15 years.
Banks usually have a stack of 100 in the back plus a few here and there in the teller stations.
I am looking for a camera like you have. What brand is it? Seems pretty clear thanks
Bought mine at a local store. But they sell them online: shop.spy-spot.com/4k-wifi-wearable-button-camera-live-stream-ios-android.html
Pretty cool experiment. The bills aren't necessarily rare but obviously rare in comparison to other paper money. I mean imagine going to a bank and asking how many twenties they have and the tellers knowing exactly and you being able to buy out their inventory. Not likely to happen. You secured around a thousand dollars after buying out 8 banks, so it's relative.
Good comment... yeah, banks rarely know how many $20s and $10s they have but they almost always know how many $2s. And they often are happy someone has come to take them off their hands.
I’m gonna go to the bank and cop some tomorrow
Interesting, have to ask what state are you doing this in? Reason I ask is because the state I live in, you can't just go up to a teller and ask if they have any two bills or coins period unless you have an account with them.
This is in Florida, and I had accounts with several banks there, which is why I always asked to make a withdrawal.
Anyone want to send me red seal 2 dollar bills😂😂😂😂

That's funny 2 dollar bills are not hard to get. I just went to my bank and asked for a one bundle of them (200) dollars worth. Brand new sequentials. They really aren't hard to find 🤣🤣🤣🤣

My bank have literal stacks of brand new $2 bills.
Do you have to have an account at all those banks ? Or can you go to any bank and make an exchange?
I had accounts at these banks. Had to because I was making a withdrawal.
Too be honest I like the video but he should’ve blurred the faces because he secretly recorded them
Can't disagree with you, but I think the video would have lost a whole lot if every face was blurred. There are some big smiles and other expressions which I think enhance the overall sense of what happens when you ask for $2 bills at the bank.
I wish my local credit union did this. They only give me what they have on hand which is mainly one or three bills, if I ask for any for a special occasion, they say sorry, minimum is $3000 worth they have to order from the treasury.
Today I did a small job. And got paid 160 dollars in 2 dollar bills..I thought that was weird ...
It's legit cash. I would go out and spend all of them the same way you would if you got paid in $10s or $20s.

Great idea! We're going to use a lot of these for hidden camera videos where we spend them in various places, but whatever we have left, we were going to deposit. So we'll roll on that too. Thanks.
I thought the same thing about the teller lol
Pro tip, get your regular cash converted to $2 bills to save money so when you have to make a big purchase, you have the money.
As long as you don't spend the $2s when you run out of your other money.
How hard is it to get the old $100 bills? They sell for up to $150 on eBay, when you can get them for $100, face value, at any bank if they have them.
I have been to the bank here in Saint Petersburg , Fla. and got $ 1200 dollars in $ 2 dollar bills and the only thing I found in all them bills was two star notes , not worth the effort .
But you got all those $2 bills! Spending them is more fun than regular currency.
This is very interesting, as an Australian I am confused as to why the $2 and halfdollar are not used. But then again Taiwan does not use the 200 and 2000 dollars, Japan the 2000 yen, and probably other countries have banknotes and coins that are not popular.
It's too lengthy to explain here. We're planning a video that goes into detail about why the $2 bill fell out of favor. Subscribe so you can see it when it launches! Thanks for the comment.
Also the 200€ bill is one of them.
Gumardee - I don't know for sure about the $2 Bill, but the reason U.S. half dollars are not more popular is that they are too large and too heavy a coin to carry in pockets. (especially in the days when they were still silver) So people generally do not like them much. Also, merchants did not necessarily like to take them or carry them, because most modern registers do not have a slot to put a "fifth" coin in. (Penny, Nickel, Dime, Quarter).
Odd that Citibank didn't have any twos that day, they normally have some. They actually told me they get quite a bit on hand around Chinese new year/Tết.
Bank #3, which had only four $2 bills, is one I happen to frequent on occasion, and they usually have a lot more. So in the case of that Citibank, it could be just coincidental that the day I went, they didn't have any.
Back in day, in the US Navy, we always got paid in $2 bills to round off, since our pay was always in even numbers.

😅😅 A hard day's work is going to different banks and asking for 2 dollar bills!! And my guess of how many you would get was way too low! I thought you would get like 100 of them for $200 total. But you ended up with almost $1000!

On Centennial day my mom had the postage stamps and this post office seal on two dollar bills in series of bills for each one of us kids in 1976.
Those are cool. We talk about those in our feature film on which this channel is based. Definitely worth more than just a regular $2 bill.

Got it at a spy store near where I live. I am trying to become an Amazon affiliate marketer, at which time I would add a link to buy one on this video's page. But you can search Amazon or just Google in general. Not too pleased with this though. Sometimes the image recorded flipped horizontally or even upside down (which we had to fix in editing). And the sound seems to record at a different speed than the picture, so we constantly had to adjust to line it back up. Still, no one at any bank suspected what I was doing. Plus, I could see a live feed on my phone, so I was able to check it and adjust on the fly at times. Worth it for this video alone, but we'll do more videos with it.

I have been to 4 banks so far have haven’t found a single one. Not having the best of luck with the US Banks in northern Kentucky.
When they don't have them, are you asking them to order some? They have no reason to say no except that they're being lazy (if you have an account with them). Tell them you're doing a charity event and need them to give to children and guests - maybe prizes for Trivia contests or something. But you NEED them. They can order them in straps and have them within a week. Let me know what happens!
It is funny to see the people who think the two dollar bill is somehow rare because they have likely never seen one in circulation and think the denomination is odd. We have had weirder denominations than they two dollar bill. In currency or bank notes, we use to have national currency which was issued bu the local banks, bank of Pittsburgh , and state, bank of Georgia to be used there. Some states had three dollar bills being traded. Then, we had fractional currency that was used during the coin shortage of the civil war era that caused people to start using stamps as currency. We used ¢3, ¢5, ¢10, ¢15, ¢25, and ¢50. Coinage get even weirder. For the united state we had half cents, two cents, three cents, half dimes, twenty cents, gold coin such as the dollar, two dollar and fifty cent known as the quarter eagle, five dollar known as the half eagle, ten dollar known as the eagle, and finally the $20 double eagle.
From working at bank they typically carry at least $200. They can also order them for you typically takes a week.
So, 2 out of 10 banks here had $200 or more; the average was just under $100 per bank. Of course, go to 10 different banks and you'll get a different nunber, so you're probably right on with your assessment. Just didn't work out for this trip.
