  • Thanks to my day job at Kelley Blue Book, I drive and review lots of cars. This 2021 Genesis GV80 is one of them. The 2021 GV80 is an all-new SUV from Genesis that competes with premium midsize SUVs like the Acura MDX and Volvo XC90…or perhaps more elite offerings like the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. In this video, me, my wife, and our daughter test the 2021 Genesis GV80 to review its positives and negatives from a family perspective.

    Hands down the BEST 3 row midsize Crossover in its price range. Best looking exterior, and best looking, elegant and designed interior. Genesis is killing it right now. Thank goodness I have NEVER been one who buys things because of its label. From clothes, to shoes, to vehicles, I have always looked who offered me the most. Bought my first car in 1999, a 2000 Chrysler Sebring LXI. What a piece of crap that car was after 30,000 miles. When I first bought it I loved it. That car was easily on par with BMW or Mercedes. After around the 2nd year and 30,000 miles, it was all over. Forced me to buy a 2000 Hyundai Elantra off a friend of mine because my Sebring spent so much time at the mechanic. I have ever since been with Hyundai. I did buy a Kia, but only because Hyundai owned them. I have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan I been trading in for almost 2 years, but can't seem to let it go. Crazy as this sounds, I am thinking of trading in for a new N-Line Sonata. I test drove a G70 and loved it, but too small. The new G80 is a little out of my price range. I do like the Stinger, it's big enough and practical, so it will be between that and the N-Line.

Hustles, independent, down to earth with no frilly unneeded formulaic words just straight to the real experience. Evie’s perspective just adds to all of it. The big companies (including one of Micah’s) are struggling to utilize what the independents have already figured out and the audience is reacting to. Bravo and Brava and....bravita to the lil’ human.

    What a great family dynamic! My only addition to the remarks is that this is not a true 3rd row SUV and even with the 3rd Row option, the Genesis really falls flat. I wouldn't even call the 3rd row an emergency row. This is a terrible purchase if you intend on having more than 2 kids. The comment comparing the Genesis to the MDX (with a true 3rd row) is a stretch in that regard.

    Micah how does it compare with the Palisade? As a current Palisade owner I noticed a few similar features- the stitching seat pattern is the same, and lane departure warning sounds. Is the GV80 worth the price premium, does it feel luxury enough or would you recommend other competitors in the luxury segment?

    • @MicahMuzio
      @MicahMuzio  Před 3 lety +1

      The GV80 hits a sweet spot between luxury and value. Versus the Palisade it's smaller but riding on a rear-wheel-drive platform imbues the GV with a more emotional driving experience. For space and pragmatism, I'd stick with the Palisade. If you're willing to sacrifice some practicality a plusher cabin, graceful exterior styling, and a more sporting on-road demeanor, the GV80 is an excellent choice.

    I really love the GV80 and the G80 from Genesis. Both look outstanding inside and out. Very bespoke looks which I like. My only criticism of Genesis isn't the product but the dealerships you have to go into to attempt to buy them. They should have followed Tesla and did direct sales. I would have a G70 in my driveway if they would have had that sales method. I'm also noticing Genesis products are about one hundred to two hundred pounds heavier than the German rivals for the GV80 and G80. Otherwise I'm very impressed with what Genesis is doing.

      Excellent remark about the dealership experience. That's one of the prime reasons Genesis has focused on their concierge services. But yeah, if you're buying a premium/luxury vehicle eventually you're going to wander into the dealership. That experience better reflect the money you spent on the car.

      Hyundai, Kia and Genesis are killing these days. You have to love them. I bought a Hyundai Elantra, and Hyundai has made me fall in love with cars again!

    Design: Overall, I like it. It's distinctive unlike every other luxury SUVs in grocery parking lots. But I can't get over the large grill and the "mature" steering wheel design. Not deal breakers, but just don't like them.
    Features: As usual, Hyundai does a great job.
    Who's it for: 1) Hyundai/Kia/Genesis fans; 2) Sensible buyers who want the luxury features and practicalities of expensive brands but want to save $10-20k for a similarly equipped SUV.
    conclusion: I think it might convince a few potential German luxury SUV buyers, but more importantly, it will definitely eat away at the Acura, Lexus, and Infiniti market share. And for a new luxury Korean brand, beating the Japanese at their own game might be the most significant point of Genesis.
