BMW and Mercedes-Benz have been the dominating force in luxury vehicles for as long as we've been in the business. The BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE are two of the most luxurious, most popular and highest-rated luxury SUVs on the market. In fact, we chose the 2021 GLE as the Edmunds Top Rated Luxury SUV just last year. This year brings a newcomer looking to make a name for itself in the luxury SUV ranks: the 2021 Genesis GV80. With a striking design and an abundance of amenities, the GV80 is certainly coming out of the gate strong. But does the GV80 already have the goods to be considered one of the best luxury SUVs and take down its rivals from BMW and Mercedes? The X5 and GLE offer tremendous luxury and pleasing driving experiences. How does the Genesis GV80 compare to X5 and GLE in both driving and features? We answer this question and more in this luxury SUV comparison. It's the Genesis GV80 vs. BMW X5 vs. Mercedes-Benz GLE.

Sorry I don’t find Mark remotely funny…and extremely biased. The genesis is an amazing brand ….German brands are NOT reliable and endless money Pitts. Mark get a new Job…I cannot enjoy a biased review. There is no way you can convince me that there are no merits you can give the genesis.

@@PsychicMedium4747 I agree with your sentiment about the review, but a lot of people lease now and nothing is going wrong with a Mercedes or even a BMW in just 3 years which is why the Germans own the luxury car market. Agreed. The GV80 door panels have ZERO hard plastic. All of it is at the minimum soft touch or squishy. Actually the top part of the GV80 door panels has leather/leatherette whereas the GLE has soft touch plastic. Not sure how they think the Genesis has more plastic when it 100% does not. Except maybe in some places like the door jams is my best guess.
Forget about genesis, I remember comparing a new 43K Santa Fe Calligraphy to a 65K BMW X3 M40i. The Hyundai has better materials and stitching on the dash, along the center console, on the door panels, but similar on the actual center armrest compartment. The BMW is mostly just a flat soft touch plastic on most of the door panels and everywhere whereas as the Hyundai had nice stitching all around and more leatherette covering the same parts. I think if you get the upgraded leather or whatever on the BMW it is better, but its still feels cheap overall given the price. ESPECIALLY now that the GV70 has materialized and even a base model blows a X3M comps interior out of the park.

      czcams.com/video/dKKCmgic8Fg/video.html
However he sold it about year after and also published his opinions after a year of ownership.
His key point was that car was OK - not as good as BMW or MB where Kia aimed at but definitely worth the money for Kia enthusiasts.
Why did he sell it? Mainly because of Kia Badge and friends comments so he was embarrassed to dive and show it to friends.
Do you see many of them on the road ?. I don't.
What is more interesting that he pulled this video since. I suspect that Kia did not like it?

As a mechanic, GV 80 all day everyday. I’ve worked on an driven the GLE and X 3,5 and 7 in all configurations. The GLE is an absolute pleasure to drive with the new 3.0 straight 6 and the tech is awesome but problematic, be prepared to fork over a couple grand here and there. The BMW X models are the corner carver of the bunch but also the stiffest ride and don’t buy it if you plan on driving in the snow, they suck at that. The 3.0 liters consume oil from day 1. I rarely see any Genesis vehicles in my shop for anything other than maintenance, it’s a well thought out, well built vehicle, for example; they have both direct and port fuel injection to keep the intake valves clean which is a huge problem for direct only injected engines of today.
I’ll always pick the best looking and even more so the vehicle that’s not going to repeatedly thousand dollar me to death over a 6-8+ yr. life span and the Genesis has both looks and reliability/longevity in spades.

I have owned both cars. Currently have the GV80. Both cars are equally spectacular, high quality. The deciding factor is if you value your money. When buying the Mercedes you are paying 20 - 30K more just for the name. Also the 10 year warranty on Genesis is a big factor. My Mercedes virtually broke me with repairs that I now don't have to even worry about with my GV80. Hands down the GV80 is superior unless your value a name over quality and value.

No vehicle markup. 1.9% financing. Drives like a dream. I love my ml63, GL550 but this smaller gv70 won me over. Oil change is $500-700 for German cars. It's like the lexus ls400 all over again. But it's the Korean.. With the pandemic why you want your neighbors to see you in a shiny new BMW or Mercedes.. It's the best value for now. I don't own my cars more then 100k miles. So why worry about the quality..
The brand is so hot, if I don't like it I can sell it.

I also believe Service is an important factor to compare. Mercedes and BMW are clearly well-established but Genesis as a contender is a concern of mine after reding many service reviews. This was amplified when I visited a Genesis dealer and the interaction was poor. Then decided to visit another dealer hoping for a better interaction but the experience was as disappointing. I was thinking if this is the experience when I am a potential customer, how would it be like when I have already committed! I felt the entire interaction from sales tactics, to courtesy, to knowledge, to professionalism (I’d advise them not to call a customer a BRO!” or nickname another sales associate “big Frank”, or even following up on a piece information was enough to deter me from the GV80. If Genesis wants to be in the luxury market, they shouldn’t act as if you they are selling a Hyundai

    • @Sakosaga
      @Sakosaga Před 11 měsíci

Genesis gives you the best warranty out of the other options and you always get a loaner And definitely less expensive when it comes down to service repairs if they can't cover it. If you call service they just come get your car. Maybe you had a bad experience but from personal experience as well, they go the extra mile for their customers and it even shows when you buy their cars brand new. It sounds like you spoke to guys who act like normal dudes but you were expecting to walk into a Hyundai dealership and get the same experience you'd get when buying the next tier up luxury which would be Porsche, land Rover, etc
From even working with Lexus, BMW, And even some Florida Mercedes dealerships they act the same, all depends on location but it's about relatability and it's probably good if they do act like that rather than being dry. Personality means lasting impressions. And you definitely had one, but you were expecting to get an experience that you would only get if you're paying for a prestige dealership. Even for the Audi dealership I've gone to and done consulting with they can be mixed from managers to service, but not everyone is going to give you that oh I'm buying a Lamborghini or Aston Martin or even Porsche service. I'd rather my service advisor and service techs act like normal dudes because they actually are more honest and not caught up in the I have to sell these additional services mindset and making you pay more for repairs than it actually should cost to service something. They get kick back based on Repair orders. Go into any BMW. Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, etc and they all are vultures about that stuff.

I see Edmunds being part of the latter one, where the reviewers try to assess a vehicle not solely based on personal opinion but taking account every aspect and seeing it in a wider perspective. Nitpicking certainly isn’t that. And trying to be funny out of the sudden doesn’t help. Would I buy a Genesis? I just got a new GV80, I was leaning toward a GLE after comparing it with an X5, Range Rover Velar, and Volvo. I somehow missed the GV80 at first and was pretty settled on the GLE, but after seeing a review on motor trend, I went and checked out the GV80. It feels far more special on the interior compared to the mercedes, the high end materials and soft touch points cover more of the suv and just have a much more luxurious look. Though I thought the seats in the GLE were slightly more comfortable, the material didn't feel as nice. Unless you need a "Look at me" badge, the Genesis is a superior suv that happens to be slightly cheaper even when fully spec'd out. Price was not a major concern when deciding which suv to go with, and I still went with the Genesis. It's really a can I get over not having a German badge and people thinking you just have a fancy Hyundai. The warranty is awesome, and the tech is superb, especially when the same driving features are hard to find on a showroom GLE. Watching this review was very annoying especially since I have been in those 3 vehicles initially without bias, which appears this reviewer can't put aside even if it's just for Satire.

Best way to do a 3-way car review. First compare features, specs, and pricing amongst the absolute BASE model of each vehicle. Then take a fully loaded version of the least expensive vehicle and equip the other vehicles so that they are the same price... In this case it would be a fully loaded GV80 at about $72K. Then you compare what you get on each vehicle for that price... Then you compare how much the other 2 vehicles would cost if equipped with the same features of the fully loaded least expensive vehicle. FINALLY, you pull out all the stops and compare what you would get in a fully loaded version of each vehicle and what the cost would be (because for some people, money's not an issue). THEN you have a more accurate comparison and more informed buyers. Cuz this video basically placed a $66K GV80 vs a $76K GLE vs an $83K X5. The only way that would be a fair fight is if they were all evenly equipped, which was not the case.

Genesis does not look or feel more luxuries - I tested it. It is comfortable and doesn't feel cheap but as they say - MB is a Mercedes, BMW is a BMW and Genesis is still a Hyundai :).
If somebody offered me any of these for free, I take - I don' t deny I would even guy Genesis but If I pay $66k and everyday look at it and think - jeez I could've spent another $10k and have Benz LOL

I went to purchase one to only find out the Genesis GV80 can ONLY be serviced by a Genesis dealer wether in warranty or out of warranty. I was told if you break down and there is no dealer near where you are the GV80 MUST be towed to the nearest dealer (too few servicing dealers to make this a viable choice)... at your expense. After the warranty you still have to go a Genesis dealer as they are the only ones that have the diagnostic tools ... I was told point blank .... no Hyundai dealer can service the GV80. So if you buy one from a dealer don't even think about traveling any distance, unless your destination has a Genesis dealer, with it as you could get stuck with no way to get service.

@@chessiem6647 here’s the thing with genesis, while yes it makes sense to pay more money for something luxurious, it’s doesn’t make sense buying the same thing for more money, mostly because of brand image. Genesis doesn’t have the same brand image as German brands do which allows them to sell essentially equally luxurious vehicles for a much lower cost, and better reliability might I add

I really enjoyed this comparison video. But, you incorrectly stated that on the GV80 “if you opt for the top trim you get three rows”. That is in fact false. The third row is ONLY available on the 3.5T AWD Advanced + trim. The actual top trim is the two row 3.5T AWD Advanced with the Prestige option pack.

Why would you compare 2 of the most unreliable brands to one of the most reliable and better engineered?
Instead, compare those horrendous German ones to a Chrysler or Ford. That's a more even comparison.

Because this was not a reliability contest. If you concerned about reliability and maybe gas mileage - these are not vehicles for you :)
Look at Lexus and Acura. German cars were never about reliability or cost of ownership but about handling performance and image.

Why everyone ASSUMES that Genesis will be a reliable, good resale brand? Hyundai and Kia have daily recalls by the millions and multiple fires on multiple newer models. What will make Genesis reliable? If u compare it to Lexus when it was building it's reputation, late 90's early 2000's the Toyota brand was rocking it. Hence the famous Lexus reliability. And BTW Hyundai, kia or genesis were never high on the JD power reliability rankings, never!!!!

Judging by the harsh critiques of Mark in this video, it seems like his character may have been a bit too over-the-heads of the viewers. Maybe next time say he’s playing the part of a typical Bimmer/Mercedes owner who will scoff at a “lesser” brand that may just offer more luxury bang for the buck.
