Drove both, bought GV80. I'm all about comfort and luxury at this stage of maturity.

My husband drives the BMW and I just got the GV80. Very happy with both.
Both are great cars. Fully loaded GV80 prestige vs fully loaded 2024 X5 40i is about $15k difference. Interested to compare ride with bmws air suspension. Aiming for the X5 50e with 58mpge. GV80 city averaged realistically 16mpg… it was thirsty. BMW massaging seats should be much better, a real actual massage on both from seats. GV80 “massage” seat is only for driver and is more of just a lumbar stretch, no kneeding. X5 has incredible interior exterior lighting, the gauges are great, the GV80 has 3D gauges which look nice too. The only thing GV80 has the X5 doesn’t is the rear power sunshades, rear reclining power seats, rear cooled seats. Other than that bmw is sporty. That 50e also has 100 more hp. 0-60 in 4.6 sec and 41mile pure electric or 58mpge. Can’t option it out over $80k to get EV tax which is a little disappointing. Love them both, can’t go wrong with either one

Great review. It all boils down to preferences. I prefer a sportier ride than a softer ride, so BMW for me all the way.
Ive not experienced driving a GV80, but having driven my parent’s ‘20 X5 40i multiple times, I gotta say it’s gonna be pretty hard to top that. One of my favorite vehicles Ive had the pleasure of driving. So fast, smooth, and comfortable. Cant really ask for more in a $75k suv.
Operative statement here is that you haven't driven the GV80! My buddy just drove these back to back and was BLOWN AWAY by the GV80. It's top of his list now. I'll be looking at a mid/larger SUV soon so I look forward to comparing everything in the segment!

I'm leaning towards the G80 simply for the warranty. No pricey repairs for an extended time over almost all in this class.
You may want to look into long term quality before making that leap. BMW is now number 3 behind Toyota and Lexus. Just a thought.

It’s a shame most CZcams auto reviewers seem to do what the auto dealers want we need more independent thinkers to get a true picture of what’s out there Ben seems to be one of the few who attempts fair reviews.
So, couple of questions for the GV80, were you driving the base 4cyl or the twin turbo 6cyl? Also, on the GV80 if you go into settings you can firm up the steering and suspension so it will feel sportier. I have the 2023 GV80 3.5 Prestige and it's awesome. I've owned 6 BMWs through my life and will never go back.

The BMW has massaging seats as part of the luxury seating package at$1600.
It includes heated and cooled seats.
And yes I want to see a 2024 x5 phev review as i have a 2021

Another fantastic auto review. I wouldn't get either; I'm currently looking at the Lexus NX350H. This SUV isn't in this particular car segment.
I have a '22 X5 40i and can tell you that it out-handles and out accelerates most sedans - SUVs don't even come close, apples to apples. With the executive package the massaging seats are amazing and make a huge difference on longer trips, especially around back and hip pain. The latest reports show BMW in 3rd place in overall quality behind Toyota and Lexus - yes, better than Honda and way better than Genesis.

The BMW comes with many suspensions and tire options.... this BMW did not have air suspension ... you can't say all X5s drive the same. - X5 owner

The steering wheel on the Genesis is aweful. It reminds me of a 1992 Buick
Spent 80k on the bmw. Would NOT spend that on a Hyundai.
So the X5 has a more responsive engine (and sounds better at throttle) and a much better suspension and the BMW has a cachet that Genesis can never match. Why would you buy an overpriced Hyundai? That GV80 steering wheel is hideous too. SK can't build a classy vehicle.
They don't cost the same amount. The base is 7k more for the x5 and the GV80 starts with more options. As for most established brands mb bmw etc have a sticker price that reflects their known status over the years. Genesis is very new, but when I see one on the road from the corner of my eye I initially think it's one of the luxury brands that are well known. I think they will establish themselves over time as consumers become smarter and more people gravitate towards them. Bad part is people are willing to spend the money on vehicles that have an image. They are normally spending it on brands that show luxury/status/even if they cannot afford it and it's extremely overpriced. I have seen less and less bmw's mb's etc and i see more and more cars/suvs that you get more bang for your buck. The quality is either the same but most times its much better.
