Have you seen the bottom of the main gameboard in the opening credits closely, if you do, you will notice that there is something strange about it, that is because originally, they were going to have the winner go through ten different subjects in 60 seconds, until Dick Clark, and the producers realized that this was a near impossible feat, so, they placed two panels of plywood over the bottom four panels, and painted it to look like the rest of the board.
I believe the rules were a lot more lenient at the time about hand gestures and such.Keep in mind that this was the first incarnation of Pyramid and not unlike most game shows, they make rule modifications after they've been on the air awhile.
I've always wondered: Why did the pyramid lights race on a $10,000 win on the orginal CBS version, but never after that? I thought it added to the excitement of a big win.
The game started with a tie breaker. They didn’t need the small pyramid because there were no clues to select, and the podium wasn’t needed since the goal is to break the tie and go straight to the big Pyramid within the same segment.
@secondchance1977 well, and I say this with all due thanks and respect for your clip, but why not just turn the "ratings" off? It's been my experience that people, whom comment on CZcams , on the whole, are not the most prescient, judicious arbiters of what a "good" or "bad" opinion is, anyway (If you agree with me = thumbs up - Anything that might contradict my world view or make me think outside of my comfort zone = thumbs down). The whole premise is self-censoring, so just get rid of it!
Charles Nelson Reilly's reaction to winning is PRICELESS!!!!!😂😂😂
When you could use your hands in the winners circle.
id love to see that episode where Charles Nelson Reilly "faints" haha thats great

Charles Nelson Reilly never fainted on Match Game I believe the episode that Charles fainted is before Match Game 73 debuts
why did he faint
Charles Nelson Reilly and Paul Lynde were the KINGS of game shows!!!
Agent 99!
Dick Clark came out and probably thought " Where the hell is my podium and the small pyramid?"

I dont know. Billy Crystal might be able to do 10 subjects in one minute. He did get the fastest with six subjects.
actually that was Meredith's mom, Sheila MacCrae
0:28 - 0:33 I love Pat Carroll!
"$10,000.00 in 1973 had the same buying power as $56,807.53 in 2017" No wonder they got excited when they won!
I bet people in 2017 would have gotten just as excited to with $10000
Back then you could buy a new car for under $10k it was a big payday then lol
