I never even considered a key ring. Great clues!
The hundred-thousand-dollar pyramid is one of the most exciting game shows back in its Heyday with Dick Clark because you could always sense the anticipation of the contestant trying to give the right answer and then when they do within the last few seconds.....BAM! JOY!
*Well put!!*
I get so irrationally happy when a celebrity in the 80s helps someone win money.
Me too!
I know, I don’t know why. Every one of these close calls from the Dick Clark era makes me smile when they get it.
Same here. I root for these contestants. I cannot stand contestants today that appear on game shows such as The Wall or Deal or No Deal. They are so annoying and cocky. I always went them to lose.
It's so *endearing!!*
"We won?" Ok that was the most pure response ever! ❤
Followed by "That's pretty neat!!" I was like "awwww!" 😊
Love when Dick Clark yells "YES!"
That and “Ready, GO!”
I always scream and yell when the contestants win big!
Beautiful Martha Smith was Playboy magazine's centerfold in July 1973.
Smart and beautiful
Was she an actress.? Very pretty
Martha Smith is an actress who has appeared in quite a few movies and tv shows since the mid 1970's. She is probably best known from the 1978 movie "Animal House" and she was in many episodes of the 1980's tv show called "The Scarecrow and Mrs. King."
Back when celebrities could play this game.....
Which is why later versions of the Pyramid were somewhere between terrible and atrocious.
Martha along with Teresa gandel were probably two of the top four best at giving clues. They always were pausing maybe a second or two to think and they never rushed and they were careful with trying to stay consistent. And this is a great example of how she is able to find the right clue that is likely going to be guessed. Throb should have been really hard but everything that she put together made sense that he eventually got it. That was excellent
Ganzel.
I always love the clock shot during close wins (usually when it displays "1" or "0" is when Dick asks for it).
R.I.P. Dick Clark
Martha Smith was dynamite at this game. And Shelley Smith too.
I love martha smith period
She cost the pyramid a lot of money!
"That was pretty neat" haha!
They needed a clock that counts down the tenth of a second like it does in the NBA and NHL.
Those were hard clues!! Wow!!!
What does The Price Is Right, Pyramid, Campbell's Chicken Soup, Vicks VapoRub, Saltines, flat Coke, and Days of Our Lives have in common? If ya' know, ya' know. 🤣
Firstly: I absolutely hate that they allowed applauding between clues. It's extremely distracting.
Secondly: These were some hard clues!!!
Thirdly: This gentleman was excellent at rambling off words, while being soft spoken, as to not speak over her!
Same quip I wholeheartedly agree. It practically takes 5-10 seconds away from the timer.
I always thought the applause was a way for the game not to pay out. Did watch an episode recently obviously a re-run & no applause. First it was just strange, then delightful. Thought everyone gets to really think, not be distracted by thee audience. That was my only gripe when this show was on. So miss Dick Clark, will not watch that so called host they’ve had for past Five years, he Ugh!
I think it’s a audio clap
It's canned applause that is added post production. There are an episode or two on youtube where they forgot to put it in, IT's just filler while the trilons are turning.
OFFICERS was tough
Huh. I never knew Cris Collinsworth made an appearance on Pyramid.
It may have been one of the worst winning times, but it may have been the best round of clues given by a celebrity ever. She stayed with hard words just long enough to give all the clues should could think of, and moved on. And she thought of plenty for the last two that really could have been killers.
Talking about close call, with :01 second left on the clock. That's a buzzer beater.
Things with an officer... An Admiral's quarters, a carrier's command deck, the Pentagon
a security department a navy frigate
police squad
“A gentleman”
@@paulkersey7458 Isn't with so it should be buzzed
The modern-day version of the buzzer beater of the $100,000 Pyramid of :01 second on the clock.
I would have said for things that have an officer is at donut shop! I have to say the best clue to give out at all in my mind!
@PriceRight89
I've seen it when it displayed 2 and 3 seconds as well. In fact there was a shot of it after Denise Bumbliss won the $100k with 7 seconds left on it.
Anyway, you just gotta love those dramatic wins!!!
"Things with an officer" and "Things that throb"..... is it just me, or does that seem almost like a 100,000 tournament board?
I like that blue dress.
Fantastic!
I love these clips that show the pyramid part of Pyramid. The other part of the game kind of irritated me.
When touring Universal Studios, ask for Babs
I was wondering if that was her!
Dick was always so damn forgetful. Can’t remember where the contestant won a vacation to. Tells the contestant before the WC round how much he’ll have if he wins, then literally 60 seconds later when the contestant wins he can’t remember how much money he has. I mean… 😒
GOT IT!!
“Your 25th Wedding” as a clue for “Anniversary”? Seems illegal. Hopefully someone will explain it to me!
I caught that as well. I think it’s a grey area but I don’t think it was too descriptive. I would have let it slide.
In Pyramid, when you're trying to decide whether a clue is illegal, ask yourself two things:
- Where is the synonym? "Wedding" isn't a synonym for "anniversary."
- Where is the preposition linking together two descriptions? This is why so many clues that good celeb players give come out as "A [BLANK]'s [BLANK]" instead of "The [BLANK] of a [BLANK."
One kind of anniversary is a 25th wedding anniversary. It's certainly not illegal.
It was "Types of anniversaries"... and that is EXACTLY what she gave a clue for... "25th wedding".
She said Police Station. Is Police synonymous with Officer? I think they should have disqualified her for giving that clue.
"Officer" is not synonymous with "police." Corporations have officers. Clubs have officers.
So do they both share the money or does someone else get it?
The contestants win all the money, 😊😊 but they have to share it with the tax man. 😢😢
She's pretty.
Martha Smith was the Playboy Playmate centerfold of the month for their magazine in July 1973. She was pretty.
😊😊
BOOP! BOOP! BOOP! BOOP! Peace.
What is with that hair???
The '80s, my man... The '80s! ;-)
They have to be!!!
but they passed.........
I think if they the clue giver hasnt said anything about the next subject, they will award the previous box.
