I loved this theme as a kid. As an adult, working in small market radio, we read the school lunch menus every morning. I'd play this music while I read the lunch menus. Loved it!
These Score Productions themes are ridiculously catchy. I was reminded of this one as Tesco (superstore chain) in the UK are currently running it on their ads. Could listen to it all day lol
Now that I hear this again (for the first time in some 40 years!), I remember this one. It has some of the flavor of the original Match Game's "A Swingin' Safari" by Bert Kaempfert. The older I get, the more I love this type of music!
This theme song gets stuck in my head every time i listen to it.
Let's All Play What's My Line?
PREGO1966 If only I could post audio comments so you could hear my Johnny Olson impression, I’ve actually been working on it with that line.
I remember watching this show when I was a Very Little Boy. It came on every night at around 7 P.M. on Channel 9 here in Los Angeles in the Early 1970's.
Watched it on ch9 from Fallbrook.

Isn’t Fallbrook in San Diego County?
KCAL 9?
@@Aiden-ku6yg
KHJ TV Channel 9 - Los Angeles. Channel 9 didn't change their name to KCAL until the 1990's. We also had a Radio Station in Los Angeles back then called KHJ, 930 AM a.k.a. "93KHJ".
I like the short part with the harpsichord best. This is a very catchy theme that stays with you all day.
I used to watch this up in my bedroom when I was just a teenager. It used to come on a 7 o'clock on Channel 6 here in Philly. In 1972, it moved to Channel 3, but it still came on at the same time; 7 o'clock. Sadly, during the show's last season (1974-75), it came on at 1 o'clock in the afternoon, and I was in school at the time.
Sounds like Atlanta. Channel 11 carried it at 7 from 1969 to 1974, when "Concentration" replaced it. WML then moved to Channel 5, where it aired at 1 PM for the rest of the run.
Before it ended it's run in 1975, Channel 6 moved the show even earlier to 11:30AM, right after Password (and then Brady Bunch reruns), and before Action News at Noon.
Similar story here in Phoenix-WML? originally aired on KTVK (Channel 3) at 6:30 PM; the final season moved to KPHO-TV (Channel 5) at noon.
Haha I used to love this programme’s music when I was a little boy.☺️
Charles Fox talks a little about composing for Goodson-Todman shows (through Score Productions) in his TV Academy oral history.
I also remember watching this. It came on at 7pm and it was followed by Garry Moore and the gang, on To Tell The Truth.
(This was in the days BEFORE Jeopardy! & Wheel Of Fortune) ;)
And also, before "Tic Tac Dough" and "The Joker's Wild."
It has sort of a Herb Alpert & Tijuana Brass vive.
I hear that too those flutes have like a Spanish South American kinda sound to them kind of
Theme is so smooth and catchy wish I grew up in this era I can tell the second faster version is more mid70s ish
Definitely. At first, that's who I thought it was. Glad I'm not alone 😆 🤣 😂
It's those brass instruments that give it that Herb Alpert sound
Its official, I'm one sick puppy. How on Earth can I be enjoying this?
it is okay I am enjoying it too
What a positively dumb comment.
Second version sounds like WML '68 meets Match Game '73.
I've been a fan of What's My Line? and I like hearing the theme song. Thanks for sharing it.
OMG!! I used to watch this show as a 4 or 5 year old kid! I used to love watching this intro with the mixed up gender body sections and song and really liked it! Thanks for posting this....it brings back such nice memories! :))
I recall it shown on WCBS Channel 2 during the day myself
The 1968 "What's My Line?" music package ranks as one of my all-time favorites. It is another gem from composer Charles Fox.
The first music cue heard in this clip was played after the opening animation, during the panelists' introductions. Other arrangements of the theme were used elsewhere in the show.
I thought it was Bob Israel
Charles Fox worked for Score Productions in the late '60s, so themes he wrote would get credited to Bob Israel. Same thing happened with other Score composers like Edd Kalehoff, Ken Bichel, Walt Levinsky etc.
Let's all play What's My Line?.
Two words...Love it!!
This part frightened me as a child.
The later opening animation here is the best same with theme with WHAT a my line
The animated opening is actually from the show's final season on CBS, the only season to be taped in color, though sadly, only the b&w kinescopes exist.
Composed by Charles Fox for Score Productions.
The remix is from 1974. It was used after the set change.
John Dalys WML was the best except for Soupy Sales.. that was awesome on the second show...
Play at half-speed for a unique experience.
Set the first theme to 1.1 speed and it almost sounds like the intro.
I can't understand why every classic game show returned except what's my line????????
Because it kind of sucked.
Oh, good god!
lets all play wats my line!
The remixed theme from the 1968 version is not from 1972, it was from the last syndicated season (1974-75).
A great theme especially the first one! Try to get today's younger people to listen to this! They won't because they don't care about anything from the past that was good and they never will!!!!!
The only Two Panelists I remembered from this show was Arlene Francis and Soupy Sales.
Elevator Jazzy bossa nova music...Oh, great.
The shots from 2:35 to 3:05 were from the Jimmy Carter episode.
What musicalstyle would you call that early 70s shuffle sound ...also heard on tpir and scooby doo
What's My Line? was hosted by John Daly (John Charles Daly) for the CBS version of the show (1950-67). For the syndicated version, the first four seasons were hosted by Wally Bruner (1968-72). For the remaining three seasons, it was hosted by Larry Blyden (1972-75).
I do pass off this TV game show as the greatest. It was hilarious somewhat when the TV game show's intro, depicts 3 panels of what the individual's career occupation is.
Mad Magazine artist? Al Jaffee?
Couldnt stand this theme.
