  • A short clip of me riding testing the Hero 7 Black's 4k image quality in very low light while riding my Kawasaki Ninja 400 KRT in the streets of Lisbon at night.
The faster the shutter speed the best the HyperSmooth EIS works, so a good compromise when shooting at night is 24fps at a fixed 1/48; that way it also fits the 180-degree shutter rule. I won't go above ISO 800 to avoid the image getting too noisy. I shoot in Flat Color and Native WB to get access to as much of the sensor information as possible and then edit in DaVinci Resolve.
I haven't received my lavalier yet so the audio is directly from the GoPro's built-in mic, unedited.

Thanks, Josh! I'll be doing a comprehensive video on all the specs I use for motovlogging and shooting sports in one of my next videos - subscribe!

Thanks so much for this!! I plan on doing night-time roller coaster videos and I needed some examples at high speed. Looks incredible. 🙌

This looks a lot better than my footage with the 7 Black... Are you using Protune?

That came out awesome, I normally shoot in 60fps, but might have to give this a try for some night footage!

Because I adhere to the 180 degree shutter rule, 24fps get me a 1/48s shutter speed, and 30fps a 1/60s. In low-light situations a lower shutter speed is your friend - you want every bit of light reaching the sensor as you can possibly get. Above 1/60s you have to crank up the ISO too much for these small-sensor cameras - the image gets too noisy. I'll post a video about all these specs one of these days. Cheers.

@@motozest7856 Cool, I'll have to keep that in mind, I haven't really had a proper play around with the ProTune settings, just capped ISO at 400.

It's a lot cheaper than other phones and cameras that can shoot in 4k. It does fine during a sunny/partly cloudy day, but night shooting is still it's biggest weakness. But it's strength is it's very compact and you can take it swimming with you at the pool.

It's not a night specialist, but as you can see with the correct settings it does a pretty nice job. I go through those settings in the video description.
