Previously, if you wanted a performance 7-seater SUV, your only option was German and it required you to spend over $100,000 dollars. Leave it to the folks at Mopar to introduce the ultimate #Dodge #Durango. This 2018 #SRT model puts nearly 500 horsepower to all 4 wheels from the big 392 cubic inch #Hemi V8 for a very reasonable $62,995. Just be prepared for some pretty high fuel bills.

It's sad to see all the comments disparaging FCA for product quality. I believe them, so you can be sure it was a huge risk when I decided to get my brand new Durango. But I have to say-- 0 problems minus some infotainment quirks and I am super impressed. In 2 years I've put 60K miles on it and frankly it's performed wonderfully

A lot of posts here claiming FCA products are junk. I’m puzzled, because my mother has a 2013 Durango AWD v6 with about 125k miles and that thing runs great still. I drove it and was surprised at how solid it felt on the road. No vibrations. No noises. Very smooth. We took her Durango on a 3000 mile road trip last year to the Pacific Northwest and this year a 1500 mile trip around Lake Powell and Capital Reef in Utah. It’s been a trusty steed for her and for our family trips. She said it’s only needed normal maintenance.

Two corrections: 1) The SRT does have cylinder deactivation. Same as the 5.7. In both the R/T and SRT, this feature can be disabled. Only the Pentastar V6 engine lacks this feature. In the SRT, you configure cylinder deactivation in the Uconnect, unlike the R/T where there is a button. 2) The steering wheel paddle shifters are 100% metal. I know you said they "feel cheap and plastic". That might be true. But they are metal. I've replaced the standard ones with the SRT version. They are definitely metal.

    • @hellkitty1014

TheCondoInRedondo Many...MANY errors and "typos" here, but usually only on FCA vehicles. SHOCKED the Durango did not "smell like a rental car".
And you are correct. MDS is defeatable on all 5.7 and 6.4 HEMI engines and has multiple driving modes. And the paddles are indeed metal. A little small for me, but metal nonetheless.(not plastic like a few of the beloves luxury cars that are reviewed here)...

@@hellkitty1014 Sorry to be late responding. I replaced the small paddles with the larger SRT paddles. You can obtain a L/R pair of complete SRT paddle/switch assemblies on eBay for $100. Then, just unscrew the SRT paddles from those switches and install them in place of the paddles found on the R/T and GT.

About the current architecture: The WK2 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango debuted the last JOINT venture from the Daimler-Chrysler merger in 2011. This Durango sits on the same architecture as the current MBZ GLS(the GLS did not get it until 2013), and the GC was first to get the architecture prior to the 2012 MBZ ML-Class(2019 GLE-Class).
It is common for the uninformed to believe Mercedes "handed-down" Chrysler platforms. It just is not true.

Matt Anthony Exactly. It is shameful to not have knowledge of something that significant. Furthermore, it usually is applied heavily to FCA vehicles in a very biased manner.
This is NOT a hand-me-down or OLD platform, as stated multiple times in this review. The Ford Explorer sits on a Volvo platform from 1999(S80). Yet it is the #1 seller by far. So does it really matter?
And obviously, the rants about the interior while leaving out the fact that it is STILL on par with most in the class(you can't even get a leather-wrapped dash in most others, save the Explorer Platinum) despite being so "old" is telling. I cringe each time an FCA vehicle is reviewed here. I do not see this level of biased review any place else on CZcams, even from pro-foreign reviewers.

FCA gets a bad wrap, I have a 2017 JGC, it is reliable (26K no issues so far), solid built, comfortable and IMHO best looking SUV in its class. People that give me grief over buying a Jeep have no idea what the JGC is (MBZ design, still in use by MBZ), It may be on a 2011 design, but it was so well designed that it holds up to new SUV's. I looked at the new Explorer and Edge and hated them. I was happy when I bought it and even happier after seeing everything else in the market at the Auto Show.

Rumor has it that they will be taking the Durango back to its roots of being a body on frame SUV "truck" rather than a large crossover in 2021. It's sad they are waiting that long but if they can basically make a RAM 1500 with a full length body and 3 row seating I think it would be a major hit considering the competition. Besides being the only ones to probably offer a high real world MPG V6 (no turbocharged bs) along side the world famous 5.7 Hemi, as it would share a lot of RAM 1500 tooling. That would be the end all for SUV's if they could make the thing tow similar numbers to the RAM and make it the true ultimate family hauler. Also adopting the RAM's air suspension, 12 inch touch, ludicrous amounts of storage, and maybe even the etorque system if it proves a success. That segment of the market is surprisingly lucrative, as I see Yukons, Tahoes/Suburbans, Escalades, Expeditions and Navigators all over the damn place, hell I'd say I see more of the body on frame SUV's than I do the Unibody SUV's.

I was thinking the same thing. I love my neighbors barge of a suburan but I'd get tired of driving that everyday. The Durango has great weight distribution and horsepower that makes the experince fun. I currently have the R/T and love the sound it makes when you put it in sport mode and it goes through the gears.

As a local actor. If you do mostly improve it would look and feel professional and organized. He needs a consistent stript but just modify lines for different brands and models.
If you want to see a 35 year proven car show watch Motor Week TV show. John Davis has a consistently show intro.

I'm sure your local community theater Oscar award looks great on your mantle, but I'd suggest tightening up your grammar skills before criticizing Sofyan. "Stript", really? Perhaps the Screen Actors Guild will one day recognize CZcams car reviews as a short form video category, but until then, Sofyan's many subscribers are fine with his current format. As for Motor Week TV's John Davis, he has a paid production staff of writers, camera operators, auto industry researchers, and film editors on his show. He doesn't even do the on-camera driving scenes during his reviews (hint: Sofyan does). It's kind of like comparing your local acting resume against multiple Academy Award winning actors Tom Hanks or Denzel Washington's acting credentials.

Durango is ok. Not bad for a old platform. Its definitely is not bigger than a tahoe. I own a yukon denali and its wider taller and longer than a Durango. The Durango needs to be redesigned soon. But the SRT is pretty good looking to be so old. It has aged well. And there nothing like a good old gas guzzling V8

Why do the water pumps go bad every 20k?

  • @BeingMe23
    @BeingMe23 Před 5 lety

What they NEED TO DO is reduce parasitic drag. Which can be done very easy. Once they do it will get better MPG and more power to the ground.
As in requards to exhaust sound. ANY vehicle can be modified to have a louder exhaust sound.
