Yup. That's what Microsoft has done with their own IP's. When Microsoft first came to market with the Xbox, they had some innovative great titles. Sadly, they let them fade into obscurity and instead of innovating, they just buy other studios and ruin their IP's.

They make literally all of their money from content and services, including game sales, monetization, and subscriptions like Xbox game pass. With a business model like that, not having their games on PC would be foolish to say the least. Not to mention that Microsoft also owns Windows... you know, the pay-to-license operating system used by the vast majority of PC gamers? By putting Xbox games on PC, Microsoft as a whole makes a lot more money than if they were to keep their games true exclusives. Ever since implementing this business model, Microsoft's stock value has never been higher.

I mean... you are kind of forgetting that xbox would not be the one buying Nintendo, it would be microsoft.
Just look up how much nintendo is worth, their market cap is approx 48 billion.
Activiaion blizzard is approx worth 73 billion which is approximately what microsoft paid to buy them... (for comparison microsoft is worth 2.3 trillion)
So I don't understand why you think this is so ludicrous... they already bought bigger stuff. The only two things that could stop microsoft from buying is the FTC blocking the merger, or Nintendo not being willing to sell.

Let's be honest, Nintendo is only alive because of their exclusive games. Without them, Nintendo would be the worst console sold as why would anyone want to play games on a console that only runs at 720p and locks games at 60FPS?
You have to realize that whenever you think of Microsoft, you don't think about the Xbox, you think about the most definite, hands down most successful tech company in the world, and the second most successful company in the world
Maybe... I'd say their biggest claim to fame is Windows, but I think of Apple and Alphabet (Google) as much more successful tech companies. Microsoft is definitely not the most successful company in general though. Depending on how you measure success, they could be beaten out by the likes of Alphabet, Amazon, Walmart, Costco, a bunch of oil companies, Toyota, and even Samsung, but most consistently: Apple
