I've always wanted to hear a MCIS done using Siamese Dream style fuzz so I recorded it!
The right channel is my Siamese Dream rig - Stomp Under Foot Pumpkin Pi into a Marshall SC20 (20 watt JCM800). The left channel is my Orange OR15 and a JPTR Warlow. What do you think? Should they have kept the Big Muff?
This is one of my FAVORITE MCIS songs and it’s so cool to hear it with that fuzz.
having the Big Muff was the best sound they ever had
I have to admit I like the guitar tones on this version better. It sounds amazing and epic!
@@alancrapo2881 as much as I love MCIS, I agree with you. Thanks for watching!
Pumpkins are auditioning a new guitarist…
1:34 the index finger bend is genius. I wonder if they used that originally considered it’s a crazy bend to accomplish otherwise
Thanks Finn! I don't think they did it that way on the album. I think that part was a whammy pedal. I just took the opportunity to do an over the board bend 🤣
We need more from this legendary album!!!
*I hope Billy sees this!*
No other song in the world compels me to crank the volume like this song. This cover included.
hands down Best pumpkins tone on the tube
Thank you!
Sounds massive. I feel like if this song was recorded with the SD setup that it would probably be a bit slower to accommodate for the Big Muff's sound. Kind of like how you can sort of hear it in Mouths of Babes being something from the SD era. Good stuff and I can't imagine how Here is No Why would sound like 🤙🏽
true, good point.. early jellybelly was in fact way slower, for example in the gravity demos.
There are fast songs on SD, except Silver F was recorded with a JMP1. I think geek USA was Muff tho.
Looove it , one of my favorite songs ever
I've been on a huge Smashing Pumpkins kick lately, and I have to say I love your covers! Watched your vids and it makes me wanna pick up my guitar and jam. I'd love to see you cover Starla! (IMO one of their most underrated songs.) There is a 1994 live version somewhere here on CZcams, and Billy kills the solo at the end. Their old live stuff is just great. Keep it going man!
This sounds so good! I saw them last Friday in the UK and they played this. First time seeing them after more than 30 years listening to them - it was awesome!
Loved it! I know I’m in the minority but I’d love to hear the reverse: a Siamese Dream song with Mellon Collie tone 😍
I think other people would like that too! I'd consider that down the road for sure!
Thanks for watching 👍
Man I had an overnight concrete pour this morning and I just put this on repeat and listened to it for over 4 hours. It was a great pour. Thanks man.
that overhand bend made me feel all tingly inside.
This made me laugh hard!
Awesome job @EddieClark - nailed it! Love the tones too.
holy smokes man, one of my fav pumpkiins songs with such perfection. !
Holy smokes! That sounds incredible! Congratulations Eddie, this sounds almost too good to believe!
Oh! And because I forgot to say this, you should do porcelina with soma adjacent sounds. I think that would cool!
Damn that sounds so sick …. Drop D sounds so goood through the Big M
Such a fun song to play.
What a joyous song.
This shit is magical, dude it sounds so fucking good
there's a few tweaks that bring that Siamese Dream atmosphere to the sound but it is funny how we can identify some Machina, Gish and even Oceania/Monuments details on this.
It just doesnt make sense when people say that only the first 3 albums were good.
I always wanted to hear gish songs with SD guitar tones.
Yes! This was awesome, I would love to see something like bullet with butterfly wings or Porcelina. Great stuff man keep it up.
Porcelina 😋😋
Porcelina will 100% happen. I need to get one piece of equipment before I dive into that one.
@@EddieClark yay yuh
There truly are some epic “Starla's" on YT. Such a great tune.
Hey, Eddie, diggin' your thang! 😁 I grew up air-wailing to the Corganography. Oh, how I fantasized being able to play like that. That you've figured out how to do just that is beyond impressive--nuthin but respect. And thanks, too, for giving me a perspective which allows yet another layer of appreciation for Corgan's playing which...geez, I didnt even know that was possible.
Hey, I mentioned this elsewhere...idk if I alone here or not, but "Gish" is my #1 SP Lp, and probably "Snail" serves as the meatiest, most unique statement on that album, and certainly, it's a damn geetar barn burner!! So, if you ever decide to tackle a Gish gusher, I would like to suggest that one.
Keep up the cool work!
Very cool!
Awesome cover!
bravo!!!
Unreal...you absolutely nailed it!
wow this is spot on.
Absolutely Amazing!
Brilliant work. Love the thumbnail mashup though i find it slightly disturbing haha.
I felt uncomfortable making it 🤣
Cool man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just awesome 👏🏻 😎
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This is the version I never knew I needed. Stunning.
J'adoooooore 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I can’t stop listening to this!! Holy F@&$🤘
Hey bro this is top notch man excellence at its best!! You are a savage rock star!!!!!!
Hell to the yes! Such a fun song to play and you did it justice and then some!
Thank you 🙏
YES, YES, YES. Dang it dude! Nice!!
Thank you!
Great f'ing job Eddie!
It sounds much brighter, I love it! (Your channel is amazing btw, love all your stuff)
best channel ever mate. keep them coming. more smashing pumpkins. I just bought a billy corgan fender and im learning all there songs. So its great to learn from you
Need a version with the vocals back on it
Im gonna take this and add vocals. Thanks.
Please just reference where it came from
awesome work! |m/_
Thank you very much!
I will cover this song aloooooone. in Japan.
Do it! I will be in Japan in 19 days. Do it fast or I'll cover it again but in Japan! 🤣
You are ridiculously underrated.
That's very kind. Thanks for watching!
Big time VROOM sounds. Love it.
OMG THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS!!!! I got a Reverend BC1 and an HX Stomp. Thanks to you my weekend is now shot!!!!!🤣🤣🤣
Sometimes life brings you happiness. I’m here right now.
One of the most overproduced songs on MCIS imho, but I love it😁 Great job 😁
Cover "Bodies" next. That song is killer
I really appreciate this! I think that the Jellybelly riff ends up sounding a bit too muddy with a Muff. IIRC, the MCIS distortion was from some rack unit, not from an amp head. It's a very unique distortion. Nothing like the Muff. But it's so well suited for the MCIS album. It roars and it soars!
Thanks for watching! The more defined guitar sound on MCIS does really give Jellybelly more of an “edge”. The rack unit for MCIS was a Marshall JMP-1 which is a midi switchable preamp. Super cool piece of kit!
This is video series is incredible, well done. Siamese Dream is my favorite Pumpkins album but Jellybelly is one of my favorite songs. Have you thought of making a video about the Surf Green strat? HS is a really interesting configuration and I love the color!
Thank you very much!
I will definitely do a gear run through video at some point. That surf green Strat is my current favourite guitar. It plays so well.
@@EddieClark Excellent! I can't wait!
I've built 2 different big muff circuits (one with the op amp chips and the other with discrete transistors), and I've always wanted to try splitting my guitar signals into both with both at different tone settings to get something more similar to the album.
so fucking good
Nice touch that it isn’t tuned flat.
Please tell us about the effects you use on your lead tone it’s amazing!!
I used the same chain I demonstrated for Soma in this video:
The Lead Guitar Sounds of Siamese Dream (The Smashing Pumpkins)
czcams.com/video/KCegzAXgpEA/video.html
The chain is Jordan Buzz Tone -> MXR Phase 100 -> MBM Dist II -> Strymon Deco
The two most important pedals in that chain are the Buzz Tone and the Deco 👍
Very accurate! What flanger is used in the background?
Unreal. I have always wondered what MCIS would have sounded like if they kept the SD sound. I would be VERY curious as well to hear Machina songs in that way too. Well done!
Seconded on the Machina stuff. Especially Heavy Metal Machine, that song has a great chord progression that's barely discernable.
Thank you! Good idea! Heavy Metal Machine added to the list.
Sound is actually very close. I wonder how much of any perceived differences are more of a Vig/Flood delta? I don't know how much their rigs changed from SD to MCIS.
The rigs were pretty different but heavy layered guitars are ultimately heavy layered guitars. I think that's why it still has such a strong MCIS vibe.
I’d love to hear something from Oceania with that rig, or something like Siva/an ode to no one
Awesome cover I had a question how do u mod the satisfaction to be jordan buzz tone
Excellent. JB would have stood out way more on SD vs on the MCIS record. Either way the song kicks ass. Mate, what if Siva or I Am One was recorded on Siamese Dream??? What would these epic tracks sound like on the SD setup??????
Thanks! I was toying with I am One as an add song. I think it sounds great with the fuzz. It's one I will definitely do when I can 👍
Dude if you add the vocals back I will pay you for this song!! I want to listen to it all the time.
Nice job mate. Also, that kick would be much more pronounced and the whole thing would have tape warmth.
How did you get the drums for this cover?
What drums are you using? The album version and then your putting your guitars on it ?
I extract the album drums on their own and then rebuild all the instrumentation. Thanks for watching 👍
Is that a small stone I can hear in the solos?
MXR Phase 100
Hi Eddie. Cool video again!
When you shift your hand position here: czcams.com/video/p_uOdvDHCBY/video.html
Are you doing that just to get enough leverage against the string tension, or is there another reason?
He bends up with a whammy after the base bend is complete. I wanted to see if I could get close without. I resorted to whammy for the exit pick scrape thing though. 👍
Eddie Clark : I'm about to start my own lace sensor strat build, what values of pots and cap did you go with?
I just used the standard Strat values. Fender 250k CTS pots and the cap that comes with them
@@EddieClark thanks! I had heard internet rumors that he used 500k pots to make the lace sensors sound less bright. Who knows? Also, did you notice a big difference when you switched your tubes to the KT-88's? I imagine you would hear more of them with the smaller 20W amp, usually the power section barely gets heard at household volumes. Maybe one day I will try them in my 100W JCM-800 but my wife and neighbors would hate me before I ever got to properly hear them. Billy said he used to open up the Master fully and then use the preamp volume to find a sweet spot. My ears!
@@whagaman 500k would sound brighter than 250k. I've tried them and no load pots. The 250k sounded the best.
I run the KT88's wide open. I only notice a difference after about 8 on the master. That said, my master is never below 10. I did the same with the 100 watt version with the same result. I use a UA OX to control the db level.
Thanks for watching!
@@EddieClark Very cool. I love the idea of the 20W version. I wanted an OX box for the longest time until I tried my friends: I found the change in tone below speaker volume 4 to be disappointing. It was way too muffled. I guess as a line out device this is less of a problem?
@@whagaman IMO the "muffling" is just the result of the speaker not being pushed. I've owned a bunch of attenuator devices and at the end of the day, this is my favourite. All of the recordings on my channel are the OX in line out mode aside from my Soma and Hummer covers
What’s the difference between SD and MCATIF tones?
MCIS is primarily a Marshall JMP1 into a Mesa/Boogie Stratedgy 500 power amp while SD is the OpAmp into a JCM800.
Amazing cover! But I’m pretty sure the big muff wasn’t used on Mellon collie.
It was a bit but not much. That said, I wasn't going for a clone of the MCIS sound this time. I wanted to cover a MCIS song with SD style fuzz. Thanks for watching!
@@EddieClark that sounds like a cool idea, covering MCIS with SD gear! I’d watch more of these
Did you read the thumbnail?
@@joshuahand69 yeah seriously
@@joshuahand69 it used to be different.
Why don't you show us more about your own staff?
I will be putting my own music up here soon. Thanks for watching 👍
