How to Build a Garage #7 Siding and finishes

  • During this episode of How to Build a Garage, we wrap up installing the steel siding as well as some other finishing details. I show you how the concrete will be poured as well talk about some prep work we do for insulation. It's disappointing knowing that our steel will have to come back off once our windows appear, but there is no way around it.
I also realize I didn't show every detail, and I apologize, but this is all new to me and as time goes, I hope this youtube channel can be a great resource for someone either attempting to do this theirselves, maybe start their own business, or even a homeowner just wanting more info on the process before they have one built.

I am a beginner to woodwork, the main test I have with this bundle czcams.com/users/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt is that I think that its hard to settle on a choice of the plan and outline to use as there are a large portion of them there. Nonetheless, I like the simple stride to step directions laid out there.

I've watched about 12 or so episodes & although my shop has been up for 7 or so years, can't help but keep watching your videos, as they're so incredibly informative & laid out in layman's terms. Learned tons of info from your channel ! Keep up the fantastic work, it's really appreciated. People dream about securing the quality contracting that you & your crew put out for their dream garage etc. A fellow would be fortunate to be in located in your servicing area. Am sure you'll never run out of potential clients. Bravo !

At 2:37 you say, "I am no building science expert" which may or may not be true but, as someone who has worked with my hands all my life building, fixing, altering, fabricating and all the rest you have exactly what you need to excel at what you do. In every profession there are those who are adequate, those who are hacks, those who are very good and everything in between.
You use reason and logic based on facts, many of which are derived from experience and put that all together with a relaxed but focused and somewhat compulsive attention to detail. THAT is what will get you great results every time. I've seen it time and again working besides all sorts of crafts people. Those are the attributes that all the good ones have.
You ALSO have a talent for explaining and teaching what you know. You're very eloquent. Your running commentary couldn't be easier to understand. That additional talent may help you out in your old age when the physical demands get to be too much. You could teach and be very good at it. Your running commentary couldn't be easier to understand.
For me, your videos are as compelling as watching a good movie. I'm actually entertained while I'm learning which is what helps me to learn. (Think about it!) AT 60 years old I've met countless guys who are great at what they do but not good at all at explaining or passing that knowledge on to others.
    Great videos!
    Thanks!

I like how you guys pay more attention to trim on your pole buildings, making sure that not only that it's done right but also that it looks perfect, than a lot of builders do on houses. Also find it very satisfying how you get the trim bent perfectly. It calms my OCD, lol.

comment on gable wrap: an interesting experiment would be to see if condensation ever forms on the inside of the gable steel. Any condensation would likely depend on locality (humidity) and orientation of the building ( a north side that gets cold in the evening on a humid day). The issue with the condensation is if it can run down to the wood. I like your building design and construction.

That you're using the insulation in roof is the reason you need housewrap. Blown in insulation allows air movement and with it you loose heat. This is the main reason for the air barrier house wrap. Ideally you'd have the air channel under the roof separate from the insulation itself. Your framing craftsmanship is amazing, take a look at some of Matt Reisinger's Build video's on air sealing.

Speaking of straight screw lines on the wall, how do you get straight screw lines on the roof when you over lap your purlin boards? Doesn't that make your screws move down by an inch and a half?

For those air deflectors I would use something more sturdy than the house wrap, b/c over time that stuff will not hold up.
