With Ryan's czcams.com/users/postUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE plan, I was like one taken by the hand and led step by step from start to finish. Thank you very much Ryan!
You are the first contractor I've found on CZcams that pays attention to layout details, digs bell-shaped holes, levels sono-tubes, and sets post bases like my retired father-in-law taught me years ago. Well done !!
Hey wait a minute! I'm 76 in February 2019 and I still do those things in my Carpenter- Contractor business.
I would have belled em more!
@@trstull1023 If you go to a later video of his where is is constructing a very large building, he actually uses a bell bottom cutter to bell out the holes. That is needed for the large structure. For a small structure like this, holes really don't need belling as they are deep enough and not much uplift.
hell of a teacher , i’ve been a union carpenter for 12 years & could these no problem. But i clicked your video anyway & must say i’m impressed with your teaching method as well as your video editing skills. Make it look easy to do your job & hold a camera ! MOTIVATION keep up the good work modern day Larry Haunz
thanks Greg... appreciate it
Union carpenter lol
14:22 the magic of alignment!
I also love the outro circuit around with the drone with the stellar finish shot!
Mind-blown. That is precision if I’ve ever seen it and didn’t realize it until he elevated the camera. A+
Love that camera shot at 14:30. Not many folks in the world appreciates that or even understands it. Good job and glad to see there are some people who actually still take pride in their work.
If you can see through all of the holes, it's straight!! Awesome video. Keep up the great work!!
Yep. I had to admit that I was impressed by that shot. :-)
I agree. Very impressive indeed!
Brilliant this is!!!
I was going to say the same. All of the holes lined up for 60 feet? Impressive alignment, for sure.
If I had the money or my own house I would hire you just because of that shot at 14:24. Lining those holes up is the kind of attention to detail that is lacking in a lot of builders. Great job.
You are a true gentleman kind sir. Love how you lead the video off with “anyone can build this, but if your are in my area”. Pure class. Cheers. With a Freedom Reserve Bud currently.
I think what most out there need to learn is the definitions of square, level, plumb and straight and how these terms relate to each other and how they are achieved before even thinking about constructing a building. I think you are just the guy to show them. Thanks for the great videos! 👍🏻
The Level dont care what you call it.
considering the fact that you could have come back the next day, and pulled half of those brackets up and out of the cement he set them in, with your hands... No I don't want to learn anything from this guy
@@zettle2345 id like to see you pull one out...for 10k, you must not be an engineer or know what the fuck your spewing

You might be surprised. Here's an example of a rebar pull test that requires a hydraulic pump to cause a pullout failure. This one fails at 42 kN or just over 10,000 pounds of force. Keep in mind that each pole barn bracket has 4 rebars each.
czcams.com/video/iDs-HviwXf4/video.html
I will be using rebar brackets instead of drilling for masonry anchors. The only criticism I have is the lack of a concrete vibrator but it's possible they used it off camera.
Continued excellence. I worked concrete for a few years in NH and we used to leave the tubes high and drive a nail inside at the correct height.
Loved the shot through the bolt holes showing the accuracy of the lined up post brackets. Warms the heart. 👏
It's all in the details. Your "get it right at the start" philosophy will provide great results at the end. I love that line shot through the holes! Nice work.
Thanks for the knowledge. I appreciate a craftsman who can teach. And thinks enough of fellow man to do so.
Sometimes I'm just amazed on the attention to detail you and Kyle take when doing a job well done. You can tell you both take pride in your workmanship.
Thanks for sharing all your knowledge! I'm in Belgium so traditionally brick is the way to go here but your videos are convincing even my dad, who's a true brick and mortar guy, to build my garage in post frame.
Roderik Vanderkelen awesome
That shot of the holes in the brackets was awesome man! Great Work!
I use those wet set brackets in a lot of my buildings. They are nice but it's a rush to get them all in a pad that's 120 feet long before your crete sets up on ya. By far the best way to do post and frame construction. Keeps the post entirely out of the ground!
Kyle, it’s just so great to see how much you and Greg have improved. From shoveling dirt with your hands to backfill the sonotubes, to the skill and precision you have now on the banrdo project. Over 3 years, both you and Greg have improved your technique so much. Inspiring!
Very very good. Clear, step by step, nothing missed out or skipped over. Really helped me understand how to do it. Thank you very much!
Looks great, looking forward to this series. I love the shot at 14:20, it really shows the precision and level of skill and craftsmanship in your work :)
You all do awesome work!
The attention to detail and accuracy is unmatched. Well done
I will be looking forward to the next video
Proper preparation makes a build process go smoother, that goes without saying weather permitting and supplier being on-time or not having to wait for delivery, or mis-ordering an item as evidenced by previous short instructional series.
Suppliers are my worst enemy usually when it comes to efficiency.
Not mention the pink hammer in his belt!
All the fancy lasers and levels and whatnot in the world wont replace knowledge and experience. Add all that tech to said knowledge and experience and it becomes art. These guys right here are why I'd happily work overtime to afford to hire them, cause I would never be able to be that precise, just not in my skill set. I'm never going to build anything like this but its fun and fascinating watching a master of a craft work.
thank you brother
Beautiful man. When I looked through those holes and I seen daylight all the way through to the other side I can see you are spot-on. Excellent work
That shot through the holes of the braces.....😎👍
Guust
I was just about to comment how cool that was, but you beat me to it.
Didn’t even plan on that one. Not sure it will ever happen again with out work
any more perfect and could just run a long enough tie--rod through :P
You could shoot a laser through it! (not that this guy is that OCD or anything...)
I could never do that. I'd hire someone for that part... I can do the rest!
I'm going to be building a 32' x 48' building with a 12' ceiling is a few weeks. I don't have all of the equipment you have - I'll need help setting the trusses - but I'm pretty sure I can handle the rest. I built a large post frame run-in for our horses a few years back and set the posts 4' in the ground. I like the idea of concrete and brackets better 😊
Finally, a craftsman who does something right! Great job
Nice work! Start level and plumb, everything's easier later. I liked the shot of seeing the hole through all the brackets line up. Good work!
Man, I am 60+ and that spinning stuff at the start could have been fatal ! Jokes aside keep up the good work and especially the great videos, takes me back to my apprenticeship days here in Australia. In those days you had to sign up to an Indenture of Apprenticeship which had rules and protections for both the Indentured and the Employer, the kids of today need something similar so as to give them more of an idea of Rights and Responsibilities ?? I do like your work ethic, all power to you !!
Seriously 602 thumbs down, I don’t get it. I just found my new channel to watch every morning with my coffee and when I get cot up, I’ll look forward in making this my Saturday morning ritual.
You're efficiency blows me away every time dude!
What a pleasure watching guys like you with such a high level of expertise and skill. Great video.
Amazing video. Love the detail and how you broke everything down.
These are incredible videos. The explanations are thorough, and the videography is incredible. Well put together!
Thank you sir, for these great videos! With every one, I learn more about the process and your way of thinking. It's neat to get an overall view of how you build, and then keep zooming in on all the individual details and why you do them. That's super important for me and how I learn.
I wish we could build pole buildings like this where I work. With trying to achieve perfect square and plumb, there are too many variables that can easily get tweaked when you set posts in the ground. That's why I like this method. We have the equipment and the money to do it like this, I guess we just have guys that are used to building with posts in the ground.
sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone and try something new
Yah finally, someone who has the knowledge, desire and willingness to take time from his busy schedule to produce a usefully series. I cant wait to watch this progress into something I’m sure will be absolutely beautiful. I subscribed as I am currently in the planning phase for such a project. You rock man!!!

Dude you take real pride in your work. Kicking ass, you remind me of my old man who was also a builder. Looks like you are on your way to success!
These guys make it look easier than what it is . Take lots of time figuring it out.
When I was teaching at BCIT in the 2-year horticulture & construction program back in the mid-80s, my class's age range was 22-55: 1/3 were students, 1/3 considering self-employment, 1/3 were employed. I then had 30 yrs experience in both horticulture & carpentery. I was born into my dad's plumbing & heating business in Chicago 1943, grew up surrounded by Old World craftsmen. They were not politically correct: there were no women in trades.
My students used to say "But Joseph, you make everything sound easy!" And I'd reply "No, the first 500 jobs, those are hard; after that, it gets a lot easier." Only about a third of the older students got it the first time.
I'm 76 in February 2019, I still operate my Carpenter-Contractor business, though I have slowed down, mostly due to work-site accidents....
Excellent and professional explanation, it shows you care about your projects and clients. nice to see, keep up the great work.
Love the close up on the screw holes. Perfection.
14:30 - now that's just showing off. 😊 Great work. 👍
lol, maybe, but i never intended that....just looked down it as we were cleaning up and was quite happy. so of course I wanted to show it
Watched the entire series. Great job! Wish you were up here in NE Washington state. Need a 30x60 building done this year before the snow flies. Looking for a contractor who is proud of his work and is trustworthy.
You guys did a great job recording this video. The work is done well but you presented it in a way thats entertaining as well as educational to watch. Keep it up!
About time you put up a detailed video on the process! Looking forward to seeing the rest of it.
Wow you guys are pros, not only at building but the video and editing is second to none! Right on!
Deric Kettel thanks deric. Tons of work but hopefully worth it for someone
Nice place for a house, just forest all around! Like it!
How do you know its only forests? Unless you're just not use to having trees...
Thanks very much for this. I'm a single mum trying to make some improvements on a crappy rental so me & the kids can live more comfortably, and this is giving me a lot more confidence to tackle a back verandah & shed.
The quality of your work, really impressive.
Kyle, I had to comment..I saw this vid on the sidebar while I was watching utility locating videos. I thought "hey that looks interesting as that is how RR builds their buildings". ( I live in Dixon). It wasn't until your trailer was visible in the background that I realized it was you...too funny. You built a building around the corner from me and looks amazing. Everything I've heard about you locally is that you are someone that actually cares about craftsmanship, customer satisfaction, and loves what you are doing. Keep up the good work and I'll be contacting you for a bid in the near future.
shichya hey thanks a bunch.
Thank you for making it understandable to me brother. Subscribed
This should be an awesome series, I will be building garage in a couple of years. Thanks!!
Kyle- wanted to reach out and say thanks so much for all the information you put out. It’s helped me greatly. You’re a master
I love to see perfection and a balenced plan come together.

Great idea, I' m interested in this how to series. I wish you were in NC, I would have you build it. I enjoy your teams work, very detailed. Thanks so much for your time.
This is only the first video of yours I’ve seen. I like to the great attention to detail. You can already tell the end result will be nice. Subscribed
Very well explained keep up the good work and videos
When you zoomed in on the hole, I did not realize what I was looking at, then I saw it. That’s freaking awesome. Very nice work, very nice. I would love to work with you, what a pleasure that would be. I used to work for a guy years ago. I had a saying, “there’s the right way the wrong way and there is Ken’s way”. I think you could adopt that for sure. Very nice, very nice
David Williams awesome!!
I like the way you got all the 63OT's lined up perfectly by eye. That's some precision work and a very good eye. Nice work.
MikeBramm purely accident. I think we just try to do our best and this time it worked out.
Love the shot through all the bolt holes. Its almost like you are showing off! ha Love your vids and buildings!
This time I will do it manually with the help of Woodglut designs.
That is a peaceful place to work.
yeah , real peaceful , right next to an airport.
Exactly what I've been looking for. Great work and share!
That's so freaking awesome cool when you filmed the hole through the perma brackets. That's the most impressed leveled method I ever seen. And this was done back in 2018, wish I had watched all these great information.
Something a homeowner may not think to do is call and have your utilities marked before you dig. Once again, your content is awesome
homeowners can't do that in Illinois....well they can but the contractor doing the work is supposed to
RR Buildings absolutely. Just a reminder if a homeowner (or more likely a farmer that doesnt need to pull a permit) does decide to attempt to build their own. I'm a lineman for a utility and we have struck utilities on a consistent basis.
Those are some pretty beefy brackets. Sure to hold the building in the strongest winds that aren't tornado related, lol. Anyway, thanks for doing a more detailed build series. Really appreciate it. One bit of information I thought could have been included is how deep you need to dig the holes for the concrete. It probably varies throughout the country due to climate and the frost line in the winter, but mentioning that might have been helpful. Thank you for taking the time and doing this series. Am excited to see what is ahead.
I think previously he has said in his area it is 42" roughly to the bottom of hole to get below the frost line.
Hotrod Hog this is true in my area of central Michigan. 42" I believe Kyle is just across the pond so I would assume it to be the same in his area.
Damn you guys are good! Those brackets were perfect! I wish you were in NJ, I'd definitely have you build my garage.
Nice work guys! I appreciate you showing tricks of the trade!
I need to win the lottery, just so I can have RR build me a garage!
I would love to win the lottery so as to built one and be debt free once done.
Damnnnnn That Chevy though🤤👌
Really looking forward to this series!!!
I hope you build an apartment shop combo soon!!!!
I would pay to see that series!!!
Just watched all of the videos. Fantastic job! Very informative with useful tips whether you're building a garage or having one built.
Couldn't think of anyone better to learn this stuff from. So glad you've decided to do an in-depth series Kyle, I'll be watching them all a few times each. I had a question with the piers, how would you get them to grade without the Stabila laser? Would you set a marker to a determined height and then use string lines referenced off of that?
Mrwnel I suppose a tight string would be a fair option not perfect. Water level never lies
Having watched just about every vid on your channel, perhaps all of them... I gotta say I really do appreciate the excellence, quality, and integrity you model. Bravo, big time!
An aspect of the design for all your foundation concrete has me a bit puzzled tho. It is the lack of rebar to constrain the radial forces on the concrete piers. Typically, the concrete tube-shaped foundations for your building types utilizes hoops or spiral rebar in conjunction with the vertical and/or stabbed in rebar attached to the seat bracket. The concrete pier or tube foundation is subject to forces that can cause the concrete to naturally crack down the axial length of the pier, in a radial fashion. These cracks, if not constrained by radial rebar such as hoops or spirals, can expand over time enough to loosen the grip of the concrete on the anchoring devices such as anchor bolts, stabbed rebar attached to seat brackets, or expansion bolts installed after concrete cure. In climates where there is frequent freeze-thaw cycles, and over enough time, say ten to twenty years, the cracks keep expanding until the concrete foundation fails. The radial placement of reinforcement mitigates that problem.
not sure I worry about it. could it have rebar....yes...but being subgrade, I don't think its going anywhere......
Thumbs up from me, luv the tutorial layout, cement then posts. learn something every day !
FREAKIN LOVE IT. Thanks. I am strongly considering using this as a guide to do just this. Appreciated beyond measure.
Nice job Kyle!
Awesome job. New sub. More info on the "coil inserts" would be nice. I build traffic signals and streetlights and a cheaper alternative to sonotube would be great. Google searched coil insert and no luck. Thanks
There is nothing OCD about superior craftsmanship! Count me in on the love for the "holeshot!"
Watched and loved this whole series. Learned a lot. Love the quality of your builds. Looking to do our own shouse project. Wish y'all worked in Missouri.
DJ Howie did you find a builder in MO.? Or did you end up building yourself
"After watching this video you'll be able to build a garage." Well six months later and I have two holes dug with my shovel.
Youll need tools for a million to build a garage that will cost a tenth
@@DrLoverLover Yep:))
Aw c'mon.just cuz you didn't doesn't mean you couldn't.
Did you get the third and fourth holes done yet?
Some say he's still digging today
Thanks canelo.👍
I live maybe 2 miles from Orlando International Airport, so seeing and hearing you get so excited to see Boeing 747s fly overhead definitely just made my day lol I do not even notice it anymore
The zoom in shot was just bragging! You guys are great I’m building a small timber framed sugar shack and am building on piers. Learned quite a bit from you guys thanks for the vids
Great video. Any reason why you don't rebar and vibrate the sonotubes when you pour? I do concrete work in the rocky mountains, could be different building code.
I was going to ask the same thing. I was also wondering about the concrete bond with the brackets when wet setting and not vibrating to consolidate.
Outstanding attention to detail in all of your work. The layout is critical and spending time there will payoff all the way to the peak. Great job! Any additional input on where you are getting the cardboard tubes? I have checked with a couple structural metal suppliers and no luck. What type of metal suppliers are they coming from?
I would also like to know if you find this out. Sonotubes are very expensive and this would save a lot.
Sweet. Can not wait to use what I am learning from y’all to build my own shop.
first class setup! I see so many that I just shake my head and think no way would I do that!
Any special consideration for post frame construction here in tornado country? I'm in NE Kansas. Thanks for sharing the process!
Underground would be best
For one. He didn't put rebar in the concrete mix. Law & regulations require it. I live in Ks myself south central. I tie my embed plates to the rebar. AKA the metal rods under the plate. Bend then to match regar rings or uprights. Tornado has to pull whole concrete pillar out of ground then. Which never happens. I built several things now this way with heavy timbers. 6x6x11ft or 6x8x11ft. on centers. Have 11ft by 44ft porch going across whole front of my house. COst $1,200 Next project I did double decker porch. 33x44x22ft tall. Which I installed my 10kilwatt solar panel system on top of love it. Cost $5,000 in materials enclosed. Which I'm going to enclose this year and double the size of my house. Last project I did 33x33x11ft tall garage. 3 bays Cost $2,500 total in material The timbers I got cheap. They from windmill jobs around me. cost me $15 each. Where cost is the brackets to attach to concrete. they $18 to 22 each. Plus brackets to attack to one another.
I can see this garage turning out MUCH nicer than the house, next to it.
That's when the property owner hires these talents to rebuild the house...
You are a perfectionist my friend. I enjoy watching you work. I'm the same way when I do anything, it must be perfect or as good as it can be. you'll always be successful in whatever you do............... be safe out there.
Brilliant idea using coil inserts for sono tubes! Love it!
Can you post a link to what these are exactly? And where to get them?
The clam shell shovel is actually called a post hole digger.
They're also colloquially known as clamshell diggers and clamshell shovels
Why use them to clean out the hole when you have electricity so close. Use a shop vac , works quicker, and will work on all dry holes, clam shell digger takes forever but when your paid by the hour ( cha- ching ) $$$$
@Un-Biased Truth Yes they are.
Those brackets are sweet, im surprised the rebar doesnt have a bend on the end though
wet set uses robotic welded rebar, no need for L anchor unless you are using the drill set brackets or universal drill set brackets instead of the expanding or standard concrete screw bolts
Fair enough, in Australia any bracket or plate like that will have a bend at the end of the rebars. Interesting how different countries build!!
The rebar brackets have stronger uplift hold power than L anchor or drill anchoring systems which he has used in past build as well when you them bolting into a precast slab or 'pony' wall. L anchors are seldom used since once set and not in a correct spot are a pain to correct, same could be said for the wet set brackets. drill set are less forgiving but the expanding type bolts are not as flexible in mounting as screw in bolts.
yesss! Right on time! Great timing for my project.
This builder's videos "RR Buildings" videos are well done.
Handy handy men. Well-designed sites. Nice to watch. thank you
What is the approximate cost of this building? Great series.
FYI, Always call 811 before digging any holes . It’s the law . Just saying for the people that don’t know that :)
fullertonbbgmailcom great call!!
That's how I found out a trans state fiber optic bundle ran across my property. No posts, no easement on the title. I called for a locater and out comes this engineer. Oh yeah, by the way, there is a cable right here! I almost dug it up first. Good thing I called.
Michael VanGundy if there's no markers and nothing on the title about it, it's hard to see how you'd be at fault if you'd found it the hard way. If they don't have an easement and it isn't a connection to your own property, it shouldn't be there.
@@tealkerberus748 i imagine it's not labeled for security reasons.
M. S. L. Maybe things are done differently where you are - here, the lines have signposting above ground, and it's very clear where they are and where you're not allowed to dig.
Even without visible markers above ground, there should still be an easement on the title documents.
Top class mate, love that shot showing how true the anchors are
Great production value. Really enjoy this channel.
