- AAA Gaming is imploding in real time, and the CEO of Embracer Group is kind of sorry for his part in it. We talk about that and the panic that seems to be setting in with game developers and journalists as players eschew AAA titles for indie and retro games. Is this why they're going after Stellar Blade so hard?

Gamers aren't sick of AAA games. Gamers are sick of garbage woke AAA games.
We are sick that these weirdos hate us for the dumbest shit that they the one provoke

Tencent and NetEase is the problem.
Yep. It's great to see so many people voting with their wallets. If games have censorship, alphabet degeneracy, modern feminism, or race / gender swapped characters, do not pay for them.
Devs, Publishers and "Consultation firms" are blaming us for not buying their slop. They can't take accountability for their actions. They're not entitled to our money.
Remember back in the day of demo discs? You’d get like a third of the game before paying and it’d better make an impression.
I will not give money to those who hate me simply for being a straight male. Simple as.
just like a woman...wait so many of em have infested these industries and govment. The real problem...
I remember shareware, like the first part of Wolfenstein and Doom. Well, maybe a few of those people might actually learn from mistakes learned. Most won't. Why bother admitting you have a problem when you can blame everyone else?
@stevenharper9108 Yes, remember those days. I remember the demo for Oddworld Munch's Odysee on the original Xbox. I bought it and was not disappointed 👍
What comes with AAA games these days?
High price tag?
Season passes? Bronze, Silver and Gold Eddition? Early Access for extra cash?
In Game Shops? Micro Transactions? 1000 cosmetic DLCs?
Live service games that are not finished at lunch?
Sticking "THE MESSAGE" in your face all the time?
I surely done with that i never accepted it anyway.
Pretty much hit the nail on the head, AAA games today try to market with the model used by free to play games of a decade ago. Here pre-order this founders edition of our free game to get x y and z. Now it's that way with games that are not free to play. People are tired of being used as piggy banks while being preached at.
Exactly, same here. My 14 year boycott of Triple-Lame remains unbroken, but more of us need to say NO before the studios will finally realize their mistakes and things can finally start healing.
Im playing most of the time old game, so u don’t get the problems of new games.
But this situation is also part of the gamers problem.
I never pre ordered game, or played games that are pay to win.
If I buy a game than the game has to be out for 1-2 years, that how a know a game is ready patched.
I can read if it’s pay2win.
ONLY IDIOTS BUY GAMES AT REALSE
Me either. I abandoned these asshats over the micro-transactions. Getting kids hooked on gambling is disgusting. The lack of quality and attempted proselytizing are just more nails in a coffin that is a pincushion at this point.
You forgot the endless amount of updates that seem to break the game more than fixing it and that QA in most AAA titles have been fired which makes future updates much worse
I'm not over "AAA" games, I'm over 70$ games that are broken at launch, demands more money, and spends half the gameplay telling me that I'm a horrible person for being straight and having standards.

A succinct description of how things went downhill over the last 14 years.
The moment when gaming companies only listen to the shareholder’s voice than the players themselves, that was the demise of their passion and generosity of content/worth towards their games.
Top tier comment and aaa critique.
It's just like with Hollywood. Gamers want to be *entertained,* not to be lectured or ripped off.
Absolutely this. We don't want everything to be a lecture, or some message being shoved down our throats above good storytelling or gameplay. Life is difficult, its harsh, and people want to be able to have some entertainment, to get away from all of the problems in the world today. We don't come home after a long day, just to put in a game and get told "You're bad, this stuff is bad and you should feel bad!" on top of it. And we're not stupid, we aren't going to be ripped off so easily. battle passes are pretty rare, loot boxes are basically a death sentence for a game, and that's because players are sick and tired of it. Don't try to rip us off, don't shove politics down our throats, and just write a good story and give us good gameplay.

Triple A is becoming like Hollywood. They think they don't need the customer.
Their customers are the investors. This system finally offed AAA gaming.
More like they figured they could pick and choose who their customers were.
It somehow aligns to the trend of The Game Awards having more time for celebrities than the actual games they're supposed to award.
We shall have to teach them then shan't we.
Blackrock is funding these public companies to push the message, the propaganda must flow because the masses are not watching the Hollywood propaganda anymore
Playing old games, watching old tv shows, reading old books, and watching old movies. Hmm... I wonder why?
The data doesn't lie. It's very telling that a lot of players are spending their time with older games (pre-2021).
Tried replaying XCOM 2, and I was reminded on how AAA supposed to be
Older media and culture was better. Anything made for a “modern audience” tends to be trash.
And yet the companies close their eyes and pretend it isn't happening because they are too afraid to confront the useless ESG/DEI hires that are ruining their companies.
Here's another question do you think that's going to last eventually people want some new stuff

I guess another thing you don't do is consistently attack your customer base. I know it's not all of them, but a lot of companies did this.

Why do these large company's think that they're immune to the concept of giving their customers what they want and expect, especially the loyal ones that have built them up into the giants that they are?
They really thought that their influence was so great that they had become the taste-makers. The entire worldview of the progressive propagandists is that people's opinions are created by the media they consume. They cannot grasp the idea that people might rather abandon a medium than consume their slap.
I suspect they are laboring under the mistaken assumption that we will forgive them and come back once they've milked DEI for all its worth. I say we give them a nasty surprise.

What tickles the shit out of me is that these Game development studios seem to have thought that gamers bought all games no matter what, like it was a law. And so still counted that dollar, even after insulting them, and taking away what they wanted. That's the only way, I can reckon it in my mind, how they act so surprised when a game fails. Especially after calling them homophobes, Nazi's, bigots and what not. How did you not think the customer had the power to hurt your company by simply not buying your slop. Its like they really thought money grows on trees or came from some mystical, and enchanted land where customer isn't necessary for the success of something. They have been completely unhinged and out of touch with reality.
Its kind of like national politicians. They live in echo chambers and wind up listening to special interest groups and lobbyists.
The game companies hired a bunch of ideologues as consultants. They parrot their consultants hatred of the customers because they're told if they don't they'll be canceled. So they let a relatively tiny group on Twitter/X/Instagram and their own HR people blackmail them into corporate seppuku.
Triple AAA games just became way too greedy... Everything has to be an empty sandbox, a live service, pay walled into chapters or filled with predatory micro transactions. AAA games no longer fill like games, they feel like doing chores and last time I check, people play videogames to relax not to do freaking chores.
All AAA studios were colossally mismanaged
Maybe don't take 7 - 10 years to release a flop
Define a flop: Final Fantasy 15 was far from a flop. However, Anthem is the lead-in to this rejection.
WOW Classic is releasing Cataclysm, which is ironic because Cata is deemed when classic died. I’m curious how this one works. WOW isn’t flopping, even if losing money.
But your point stands on multiple fronts.
@@BlakeAustin2011 FF15 was certainly a flop in many respects when it was first released. Was incomplete with regards to storyline, (so much so that episodes for each main character had to be released as DLC) with huge chunks of the game world missing, (Altissia barely explorable, and an the entire Empire continent cut, along with the dark world version) and the world available feeling too copy and pasted with the diners, a little too empty with hardly any interesting activities or missions to do and only one real town to explore. They gave us copy pasted "Hunts" and called it a day. Everything felt like it was rushed at the end and thrown together, also we couldn't even explore Insomnia until it was released as a DLC! I did end up enjoying my time with the game overall, but even I could see that the game was severely compromised when it came to the original vision for it, and major ideas scrapped in order to make the release date. Sadly, they too could fall and be co-opted if they allow it. Self publishing needs to be a thing to push back against censorship.
When you only need a single person with a vision and a lot of motivation to make a good game, the traditional gatekeepers of government/unions/investors simply have no real influence in the industry. Especially when people make their game development public and people follow it along and watch it come together as a real thing. It's hard to think of another medium with more "old" content out there competing with "new" content. We don't really need new AAA games, so we can't be expected to buy many of them.
Hollywood has a pretty similar thing going on. People are watching old movies and shows over new. But yeah other than video games and movies/tv shows, youre right
@@ryanhelmbold2288 Some of the most watched stuff on cable is stuff like Murder She Wrote, Magnum P. I. and Perry Mason. At night my 92 Y. O. dad likes to watch the old Becker TV series on DVD. He also like The Three Stooges. Talk about un politically correct.
There isn’t a drought when there is a massive backlog of old games that we have never played lol
Not to mention: how many games release on Steam alone every day? If all game development ended today worldwide and we all did nothing but sit at home for the next 40 years and play games we STILL wouldn't run out.
one of the big things that killed gaming was trying to force inclusion and a change in behavior. Then when you combine it with studios hiring people who either have no clue about the IP or actively hate it. It will then finally lead to massive backlash and extreme devalue of the IP and in the idea of gaming in general.
This is what happens when you let ppl at sweet baby inc and black rock bully you.
They took the money, became beholden to the investors input and ultimately fell on their sword.
They release half finished games at price gouging prices always relying on the game name to draw hype.
$500 console vs $1000+ GPU and the rest of the pc. Not all of us have a "gaming" pc.
If you can save up for a console, you can purchase an all AMD build for not much more. Then pirate every game till your scurvy hearts content
I don't want my kids to play games that push the message, ironically the message is SOOOO bad my kids don't even want to rebel against Dad and play them anyway. Lol their playing Fallout 76, Skyrim, ESO and retro games like Street Fighter 2 and Super Mario Bros, So F these studios.
DEI Detected website is up now too! So we can monitor for ourselves!
Oh no… AAA studios shutting down. The horror. Anyway…
They just assumed us gamers would just buy whatever crappy games they put out. They didn’t expect us to stand together and not buy in to their bs.
I just don’t understand why so many people in charge of major corporations fail so much as business. I’ve known since the mid 2000s the AAA industry was unsustainable. And what have we watched since they started pushing graphics so much? Company after company going out of business and being bought up by others. It’s obvious that model doesn’t work. Why did so many people think it would?
There is never a need for any corporate industry. Markets just keep crashing for failing to understand their customers and the stuff being sold. Censorship is also why companies go bankrupt.
The only ones who would get out of this long term and be better as a whole would likely be Nintendo.
This is a consequence of the "leftist" mindset. If you are "correct" then the problem is someone else. To admit otherwise would lend credibility to your ideological opponent and suggest that they might have a point. Which is unthinkable.
Think of it like a religion...
aaa gaming has transitioned into a literal slot machine
@@mrconroy4672 No, not even Nintendo is capable of escaping this next crash. They've solidified an image of hating their fans arguably more than Western Studious these days.
@@megaman37456 That’s rich considering that they never reached the likes of Naughty dog and TLOU part II. There’s still a huge market that allows Nintendo to sell their games pretty great.
Ubi: "Well, we wanted to focus on our AAAA studio anyways."
Ubisoft is defintely on my ignore list.
Kind of baffling how Ubisoft had Black Flag so many years ago and Skull & Bones is all they can do nowadays?
@@barcster2003 Same i loved Assassins Creed games but Sweet Baby Inc made me say nope to future stuff,
@@davidgantenbein9362God the intro to that game was such communist BS and way off the mark made no damn sense it instantly turned me off and all I was watching was someone else play it for two mins.
There's some truly brilliant hidden gems within the indie universe. StarSector, Rimworld, Factorio, Songs of Conquest, Spelunky, Vintage Story, Rabi-Ribi, Synthetik, Terraria, The Long Dark, Little Witch Nobeta, Darkwood, Ender Lilies, Rain World, Caves of Qud, Dorf Romantik... just to name a few. If you have nothing to play, now you have.
You seem to think that the CEO of Embracer Group acted alone in closing 7 studios... He didn't he was told what to do by the board and a bunch of other people. A CEO rarely acts like a king and he isn't finished if you become a CEO you will continue to get hired as a CEO even if you continually screw up.
It's been too late for sorry for a long time. Now they must suffer the consequences of their actions.
Disagree with that entirely Naruto late to admit your mistake
@@animezilla4486what?
Oh no! No AAA games for a while! What im supposed to play from my unfished games library on Steam?
Yeah but will you, or will you continue your addiction of buying games you wont play or finish? You have backlog because youre addicted and bored, finish what you start
@@-pressxtostart- Or because i have to work and dont have enough time in the day like before? Besides its, like... 5 or 6 games which are quite advanced, at worst 50% to the finish line.
@@phyrexian_dude4645Mm you’re on the fortunate end. I have 900 in my backlog… I need help.😅
The sheer bloat of the development teams aren't helping anything either. Do we really need 500+ groups making a singular game and have it take half as long as Duke Nukem Forever to produce?
No, no we don't.
The issue with AAA games is that most are online and once the server gets shut down then that’s the end of that game.
They did it themselves also nothing cant beat old school games

Triple-A games make the same mistake that modern Hollywood and Disney makes. They think the more money they spend, the more money they'll make in return. They're finding out it was never true. Surprise!
I have so many older games I never played. I'm going through the Fallout series, Atelier series, and Legend of Heroes series. I could never play a new AAA game ever again and I'll have plenty to play through
Wait, someone in charge is actually taking some accountability? Did I smack my head or wake up in the Multi-verse? Love it!
Not really, "I deserve criticism" will still lead to him ignoring it. "It's my fault" is the one with accountability.
His company is currently split up into 3 to save whatever can be salvaged … I think he is beyond „it’s not my fault“ territory as people would just laugh him out the room.
Well gee, a bunch of venture capitalists swooped in to make a quick buck off a creative industry, didn't understand the first thing about the production cycle or consumers of those products, and lost a shit ton of money in the end. Who could have possibly ever predicted that would happen?
So much shocking! Who could have foreseen this as these companies pump out crap after crap...
Japanese video games made for Japan is why people worldwide love them. The Japanese culture is the appeal to the medium. People already have the US stuff available in the US that Japan removing the Japanese themes will cause the Japanese products to lose their appeal. Accurate language translating is how any creator's intent is honored.
The same goes for anime and manga. There is a reason why manga way outsells American comic books. One industry embraced DEI and one didn't.
The industry is making a small group of CEO's rich while the backbone to make the games is thrown out. There are no protections in place to help the creators, who are often told lies about how they will be treated, or sign NDA's that prevent them from speaking out about how they are treated. Ask Mick Gordon how he was treated over Doom Eternal. Stop buying Capcom, EA, Blizzard or any other big company that treats their people like shit. Even one of the better studios, Fromsoftware, are pretty tight with their money when they pay their staff. Sony can go to hell altogether.
Now we have this constantly resurfacing shit show ever since 1990 with Mortal Kombat, it is insane to me that an M rated game, 18+, basically the "Rated R" of video games, is treating us like babies that can't handle non-pornographic skin, that you would see at a beach any given day, and some fake video game blood?? This shit AGAIN? I don't even care about Stellar Blade, but I don't want to see this game get censored, because it might threaten games that interest me later.
I'm still mad at Embracer for killing the Deus Ex project
you want in on a secret? I doubt he's sorry
The only thing he's sorry about is that he will not be able to justify a 50% raise for himself this year.
This is what happens when giant corporations buy up all the developers and force DEI mandates in their games and hiring. Now we are flooded with tourists in the gaming space. And we've had a rash of high-profile censorship that has greatly annoyed gamers everywhere.
Make shit products -> Lose Money -> Shut Downs & Lay Offs -> Blame Gamers -> Repeat.
They are trapped in an insane loop & will never admit they are at fault. I could care less & will continue to only buy games I believe are worth my hard earned money.
It’s already too late for sorry. The damage is already done and many have lost any faith in AAA studios.
The thing with those CEOs is that they're all humble and shit but they all end up leaving the companies they ruined with hundreds of millions of dollars in their pockets. So that a humble thing to do.

Is it 20 years since journalists said gamers were dying?
Anyway, it seems like they still try and claim the same thing, without realizing what is dead is fascism and trying to control your customers.
As an xbox owner I am not surprised that stellar blade got censored, just disapointed. Many studios famous for games with attractive women that went playstation exclusive got censored out of business. If Playstation hq was still in japan this never would have happened.
I was glad to see the american censors at nintendo get removed so games could just be pure unfiltered fun.
Nintendo needs to shutdown their localizers, asap!
Ironically, Nintendo has recently accepted Blackrock investment and has indicated that it will be adapting its titles "to better appeal" to Western audiences.
The new Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door port for the Switch has censored dialogue, particularly around some villain goombas cat-calling another goomba. They've already started the American-oriented pandering machine.
Blackrock just trying to make sure that you can't escape their propaganda and idiocy, no matter where you go.
@Ingel_Riday6690 That's terrifying!🥶
Is it only Nintendo of America that has recently accepted Black-Rock investment?
If so, should we boycott Black-Rock and the other western corporations (including localizers and Chinese corporations) to death?
Also, should we warn Ken Akamastu and people/creators in Japan about Black-Rock and the other terrible things (such as ESG, global standard, censorship, ect) are happening in Japan?
Also, I'm glad I'm not getting Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door remake.
Because we're getting sick and tired of gaming companies treating game preservation like garbage by remaking/remastering retro games over and over again.
I think it's better for gamers to keep their old games/consoles, stop buying remakes/remasters of retro triple AAA games (including the Nintendo ones) and instead, start buying indie games and AA games.
How are you going to boycott Blackrock, Vanguard? They literally are the 401Ks for millions are folks. Maybe even you.

The video game industry collapsed once before with the release of a seriously flawed little game called E.T.
A few years later the industry made a comeback that lasted for a few decades.
Now, there are a multitude of seriously flawed games bringing about another much needed collapse of the industry.
It'll recover, hopefully with some serious lessons learned. Either in the AAA space or the AA and indy scene, the video game industry will survive.
The blood and gore was not taken out of the game. Just adjust your settings to performance and utilize the 60 fps. The Hard R isn’t actual thing.
Wardrobe has a few changes, but was changed before the release of the game. We petition for the principle of censorship. But this is hardly a true censored game.

The AAA industry has no idea how big the average gamer's backlog is. Also, almost all of my favorite games are like 20-30 years old, and some of them have even gotten recent rereleases, so I can always play an old favorite.
