It's nice to see that there are still professionals out there. This is a man who knows what he's doing and cares about the end result.
Thank you very much.
I always get irrationally excited when there’s a new Mike video.
Thank you, thats very kind to say.
Someone please get this man a show. Also, if carpentry doesnt work out he has a future in narrating books on tape.
I'm liking both of these ideas!
My thoughts exactly! Mike is amazing! He plans the videos with the same precision he does carpentry; we benefit from his knowledge and discipline. 👍
Thank you. I kind of treat my CZcams videos like a show.
Listen to a podcast by Roman Mars called 99% invisible. Your voice and speech cadence remind me of his. In particular, if his podcast isn't particularly interesting to you in general, you might listen to one called "The Shipping Forecast" that features someone who's voice was so soothing that people who didn't have any need for The Shipping Forecast (A BBC weather report) would still tune in to listen. Here is a link 99percentinvisible.org/episode/the-shipping-forecast/
Thank you, I'll give these a listen. I'm always in the market for a good podcast.
Unless I miss it, that's a Pacific Gopher Snake. Harmless, and pretty easy to get along with. BIG THANKS for not hurting it. (Him - Her?). They work quite well at keeping the rodent population down, too. They can also make a pretty decent pet... they're quiet and don't bark at the mailman or howl at night.
Yeah. I work pretty hard to keep any snake happy on my property. I like them much better than mice or rats.
"so that I could clamp everything down to my workbench" I love the subtle humor in that shot.. epic.
Ha! Gotta keep you on your toes. Thank you very much.
Awesome video Mike! Will keep this process in mind for when we do the wainscoting in our house!
Thank you. It is a pretty neat way to get the job done.
Great work and thanks for not hurting the snake.
Thank you. My hope is the snake will put a dent in the mouse population.
Your overall presentation is like no other on CZcams. You have this natural way to present your workflow and the charm to go along with it. I really look forward to your videos to see and hear what’s next.
Thank you. That is very kind to say, I'm happy you relate to my style. I'll have another video out soon.
I always learn so much from watching your videos. I can always find something to apply to when I'm working on my own house!
Thats great to hear. Thank you.
Great to see the install too - nice to get a view of how it looks in it's final setting, keep up the great work :)
Thank you. Will do.
Another great video Mike, love the simplicity of the wall panelling.
Thank you very much.
Stumbled upon this wonderful and informative channel, so going back to the beginning.
15:26 Wow, nice detail of the chair rail slightly over lapping the door casing.
Thank you. I really like the over lap detail as well. I've done that in my own home a few times.
Your work is always so well put-together. I really appreciate your process. Thanks for recording your work.
Thank you Sean. That is very kind.
Razor sharp work. Very worthwhile tips. Perfectly paced narration. Thank you.
Thank you very much Michael.
I'm blown away by your clean work, very impressive. Very efficient and precise execution. Top work!
Thank you very much!
Looks very classy Mike....watching your videos is always a pleasure....and a learning experience too!
Thank you very much!
Mike farrington im a carpenter I love watching your videos .. I enjoy watching how you explain all your work .. I’m very interesting doing the bench you built In one of your videos
Thank you very much. I'm happy to hear you enjoy the videos.
Unbelievable work and attention to detail, glad I found your page and thanks for making these videos
Thank you very much.
I like it! Clean and neat ... I need to do some in my kitchen. You just showed a less expensive great looking way to do it!
Thank you. Give it a shot. Yes, I forgot to mention in the video, but this is a super cheap way to achieve a clean wainscoting. Couple sheets of 1/4 and 1/8, little bit of hardwood and some base molding. I spent way more on paint/primer than materials.
Man that is awesome! MDF isn't something I've ever thought of for wainscotting. I've been struggling trying to come up with an idea to wainscot my basement remodel and I think you may have just pushed me in a new direction! Thank you
Thank you. Happy to help.
Excellent work you do, always accurate and very clean, I congratulate Mike, greetings
Thank you Oscar.
You make awesome videos. Your in-depth voice overs are both soothing and very informative. Keep working hard you are an amazing artist
Thank you very much, this is such a nice compliment.
Festool plunge saws are amazing. I've built so much with this tool.
Such a great tool. I find new uses for it all the time.
My favourite use is dimensioning rough lumber on the jobsite. Rough lumber is usually flat enough to feed through a portable thickness planer, but never straight enough to cut on the table saw, and there's obviously no surface planer (jointer) on-site. That's where the track saw comes in.
Thanks Mike! I enjoy your videos better than those network TV shows.
Ha! Thank you very much. My goal is to make my videos as good as I can with the goal to be as well shot and edited as a TV show. I am not where I want to be, but I strive to improve with each video.
I never thought of doing it that way. I will try it on the next small job. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you for watching. Give it a shot, its a pretty cool way to accomplish the task.
Really enjoy your style of work. Great vid and, yes, your method does make it much easier. Thanks
Thank you. Happy to hear you like this method.
Gotta love colorado weather! Nothing like having a beautiful day and then waking up to 10”+ of snow 😂
I hear ya. We recently took a trip up to the mountains and at the end of May we woke up to a few inches of snow and a pretty hard frost. Yikes! Keeps us on our toes.
Wow! Same as usual... perfectly done!
Thank you!
Excellant job. It does look better than traditional style and rails and the seams. A more contemporary look and feel. Great video and idea.
Thank you very much.
Excellent, as usual. Love all the tips you offer.
Thank you. Its fun to share.
Pretty cool. I hadnt considered pre-fabbing panels in my shop and then installing them, but it makes perfect sense.
I always try to do as much work in the shop as possible. This process works pretty good.
The wall paneling came out great. Your shop assistant is doing a great job cleaning up. I hope your paying him well.
Thank you. Ha, our little guy needs a raise.
Great tip on the sandpaper Mike. Excellent work
Thank you. I love that trick. Works great for sanding between coats.
Absolutely A1. Thanks Mike. Really enjoyable as always.
Thank you very much!
Hey bro you do excellent work I can’t stop looking at your videos, great work.
Thank you.
Simple yet elegant. Well done Mike
Thank you.
Thanks for the excellent content, and taking the time to shoot/edit/upload.
Thank you Mike.
Nice work, excellent production, top copywriting, and fantastic editing. Kudos
Thank you.
As always great work, I really enjoy watching your videos.
Thank you.
As always,a really good informative enjoyable video. Cheers! 👊
Thank you!
OK now Ii have to do this in my bathroom and dining room. I hate the bulky "Victorian" wainscoting in my dining room. Thanks for the great video!
Thank you. This is a more simple and sleek way to do it.
Nice work Mike, a pleasure to watch and learn.
Thank you.
Having just discovered your channel and watching a few of your videos, I felt compelled to subscribe, Mike. Great job with your video production. With respect to your practice of adding water to your little cup of paint for the finishing details: Try using a product made by "Flood" called "Floetrol" instead of water. Floetrol will allow the paint to flow easily and lay flat, without any visible brush marks - it will look like it was part of the original spray application. Flood also makes a similar product for oil based paints too, if ever needed. It's available in a variety of stores, including Home Depot.
Yup I use floetrol all the time. Good stuff. I find that for touching up nail holes I like to use water because it thins the paint and physically leaves a thinner film. To my eye this looks a little better.
Genius! I’m not sure why more people don’t do this. May take a little more effort up front but much cleaner look overall
Another classy video and quality job. Thanks fella
Thank you Ryan.
Adds a great, high end look to the restroom. Great job!! As for the snake, it depends on where you grew up. Some parts of the country call them gopher snakes, other parts call them bull snakes. They are both part of the same family. I grew up in Colorado Springs and we referred to them as bull snakes.
Thank you. Bull snake it is.
@@MikeFarrington Yep, this ID is correct. They can be stubborn, and large, and sometimes even aggressive, rattling their tails like more dangerous snakes, but ultimately they are good neighbors and really help keep the rodent populations down around your house.
Flawless job as always!
Thank you Ian.
I learn a lot from watching your channel. Warm regards from Indonesia!
Thank you very much.
Great job, as usual. Love your vids
Thank you.
Sooo in Love with your work!!!
Thank you very much.
Great job Mike! Watching your videos for about a month now and just realized that I never clicked on that subscribed button LOL! Keep posting your awesome work!
Thank you, great to have you onboard.
Mike, I just recently started watching your stuff and I gotta say... I love your calm, confident, honest attitude that comes with your woodwork. I'm always a bit nervous before an install. I have a perfect set up at the stop and hate taking stuff with me or forgetting some... most of my work is at the shop, but the boss sometimes tries to save money by having me perform the install. Gonna rape all your content now. Best regards.
Thank you. Our shops become so well setup over the years that leaving them is like a whole different world. I have also worked to try and have a comfortable, confident job site setup. Easier said than done.
Mike Farrington Mike, I'm also in Denver. Is there any chance you'd let me come by and check out your shop. Perhaps, you could get involved with me and the company I work and co-manage for here in CO. Best regards.
Beautiful work man. I wish I had half of your talent.
Thank you very much.
Beautiful job yet again.
Thank you very much.
Beautiful work!
Thank you very much!
Una vez más lo hizo, excelente trabajo, felicitaciones.
Thank you.
Nice work Mike!
Nice. I do a lot of wainscoting myself, this design is beautiful in its simplicity. Good job.
There are definitely some differences between the normally installed wainscoting and this design. Because you've don a lot of it, what are your thoughts, positive/negative on each if you care to discuss. Thank you.
James Jacobsen well obviously the lack of joinery and practically no filling or sanding is a big plus. This would greatly speed up the making/installing process. The only negative I see is that it wouldn't be up everyone's taste. A lot of people like the raised panel designs, which takes a lot more work. But then you charge accordingly. It's all down to customer preference at the end of the day.
I'd be interesting to know the differences between normally install and this version.
Mate, you do lovely work.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much. Keep at it!
Lovely job Mike as always. I'm sure they were delighted.
Further to the comments below about your videos. I'm housebound these days and watch a LOT of CZcams. By far the best are done in your style with a voiceover whilst watching the action rather than someone talking to camera.
I was watching one of yours yesterday when my wife came home from work at 3pm after a 6am start. She usually takes a nap when on this shift and I offered to turn your video off, she said no, your voice would send her to sleep........sorry dude lol.
Thank you. It is easier to do the voice after the work is completed. Plus it takes a bunch more gear to be able to talk to the camera and have it look and sound good.
Gorgeous!
Thanks.
Excellent video Mike. Thanks for sharing. One tip: when caulking, use a grout sponge instead of the old tee shirt and wipe your finger on it. Oh yeah, that looked like a common rat snake, which is good to have around (unless you have chickens as they also eat eggs).
I like this tip. Thank you. I may give this a try.
Yup super simple and super clean👍👌
Thank you.
Another fine job !!!
Thank you very much.
Really like the end result. Neat idea to cut out from large panels rather than build up from small parts. It’s tedious to try to hide join lines, though it’s easier in Mdf than other wood in my experience since it’s already particle board and the filler is adding more particles, essentially
Anyway, another great video. Your narration has to be among the very best I’ve seen (heard)
Thank you for the kind words. I find that by removing the joinery, lots of time is saved in both performing the joinery and sanding/filling/painting.
These videos make me realize a thing or two. Like for example, i need more tools!!🛠
Hey, we all need more tools. There is never a time when that statement isn't true.
Mike, your shop is amazing (except for the router tabel, but you said you were going to rebuild it anyway). Your video is extremely well done. Thanks for putting me onto the 1/4" thick flat tooth dado blade for routing grooves in the drawer sides. Just ordered me one.
Thank you. You will find many uses for the 1/4" blade.
Really nice work!
Thank you.
You are a true pro bro !!
Thank you very much!
Wonderful job!!
Thank you.
great vid Mike Thank you !!
Thank you for watching.
Mike, you are so comfortable with what you do; your videos reflect a natural gift, others have to work so hard at. How did you learned to speak and narrate so impeccably entertaining?
Thank you very much. I have been building things for a long time now, so showing the process comes pretty easily to me. Regarding the narration, what you see on my channel is the sum total of my narration experience. So I have no idea how or if I am entertaining.
Mike, you mentioned in your video if your wainscoting was longer than 8 feet it would be a nightmare. One thing you could do prior to finishing is butt two pieces three quarter MDF together and join with Domino's. We have found the Bondo can completely make a paint grade joint disappear. Experiment with some Bondo and you'll find you will love it, if you don't already use it. Great video! thanks.
Yup, good tip. I use bondo frequently, but it still adds a step.
Another great video! Keep them coming ! And you can keep the 🐍
Thank you. Ha, as long as the snake doesn't disrupt my BBQ again, I don't mind having it.
Great job!
Thank you.
Nice work !
Thanks.
Nice sanding tip !!
Thank you.
Good work! thanks for sharing
Thank you.
Nice really nice!
Thank you.
Como siempre, trabajo muy bien hecho y explicado, eres un artista
Thank you very much!
Mike Farrington A ti, saludos desde Dénia (España)
Thank you. I have not been to Denia, but I love Spain.
Nice job!
Thank you.
Verry nice looks top quality.
Thank you.
Dedicated master @ work👍🏻
Thank you.
I've watched this a few times, but I missed where Mike mentioned the height of the MDF. Looks like he trimmed off a little and it's not 4' tall. My wife watched this and now I get to do it to our bathroom. Thanks Mike.
I don't remember the exact height, the customer pointed to a spot on the wall and said make it this high. Thats what I did.
Hey Mike great video. Don't forget to link your Patreon in the description!
Best comment ever! Thank you for the reminder.
I wish I had did the wains coating in my bathroom like this. I tried to use the premade sheets at Home Depot & it was just a mess, especially with one of the rounded corners in the bathroom. This is way cleaner.
Thank you.
It's also great to keep the mdf off the floor in bathrooms. One flood and it'll be a mushy mess.
Good point.
Lovely job mate I'm going to do my toilet like that very soon.
Thank you. Let me know how it turns out.
He reminds me of Norm Abrams and "The New Yankee Workshop". I loved that show!
Thank you very much. Norm was a hero of mine growing up.
Great job 👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌
Thank you.
Nice work...
Thank you.
Nice job
Thank you.
Well presented.
Thank you.
Love my makita track saw
I've heard nothing but good about the akita track saw.
Now it looks like the white house toilet. the measurements were perfect!
Ha, I hope you're right. Yes, the measurements turned out pretty spot on.
Nice work
Thank you Greg.
That’s a bull snake. His rattle snake like markings and color often get him associated with his more dangerous cousin. His markings are squarish or rectangular whereas the rattlers markings are diamond shaped, Hesse the name, diamond back rattle snake.Bull snakes are very welcome visitors as they eat mice and contend against other less welcome snakes. They will bite a when provoked as a defensive response, but for the most part the bite is not much of a worry. Their first concern is to avoid contact. Thanks for treating this fellow with kindness and respect, he will reward you with the same.
Thank you for the good info. Good stuff.
I laughed audibly at "immature clamping method"! I'm in that camp with you, dude.... nicely done, Mike
Thank you Andy. When I was editing the video and got to that part, all I could think was, this is how a 10 year old would clamp this... hence the comment.
Mike Farrington this is exactly why I invented #middleagedtwelveyearold ....it gives me an excuse. Hahaha, cheers!
I'm all in on the middleagedtwelveyearold idea. I feel as though I am settling into this role as the years pass by.
Mike Farrington it's a badge of honor!
beautiful job
Thank you.
👍
