Pro tip, use t nuts for the feet. Tap them in then run a couple of small screws in beside them. Then they won’t come out and last longer than plastic.

In fairness the story is about saving the world as we know it, vs telling the story of a bitter old Wizard doing a remodel project way high up in his tower. That would be a funny skit, Sauron, the greatest wizard ever, keeps messing up building a pedestal for his seeing orb thingy, and it keeps breaking and his orb falls and hits the ground, then it rolls, he can't find it, but the other orbs can see what he is doing. Then he later he's shown singing Taylor Swift, that footage is recorded via the other orbs, then its used to bribe Sauron into giving up the ring of power. Wow that went off the rails quickly.

Working with your kids has got to be the best feeling in the world. The shop apprentice must be very proud of you. I'm building a couple of small desks with my girls and it is so rewarding. One day I hope to have your skills though, my projects are pretty rough. Thanks for your videos.

I think the instruction to remove ties was meant for shop teachers. I remember a story from shop class about a teacher (probably around 1972) who got his tie caught in a jointer. All was well in the end; the closest his face got to the blades was about an inch.
That is absolutely frightening.

Wanted to give another shout out for the sanding discs - I love mine so much I’m trying to rearrange my shop to fit a dedicated table saw just for the disc. Please keep spreading the good word on those!

As much as I have loved Norm, it is a VERY apt comparison. I was blessed in my early days we only got 3 channels (public tele for the win). Never looked at it that way, but I guess that's part of my draw. Well done.

Geez. I started watching you when you only had a couple thousand subs . I patreoned for a bit later on. I have watched every video you've made. I am working on my Bob Ross hair but at 48, it ain't easy. May have to do the Farrington. As for the apprentice, I can give you a rough timeline from my experience. My kids 26 and 28. Around early teen not as fun/cool. Late teen, coming back around. Mid-20's, wishing they listened and watched more. That's when the respect kicks in for how smart you really were and how experienced you are now. Keep it up, Mike. --Brian

Mike, you should not hold anything against Maine people especially since you bought that fancy No.4 Brass smoother plane. I have paid a visit to the Lie Nielson store on my trip to Maine last summer and i could not resist the temtation to buy one myself. It was screaming my name right there on the shelf.
I love Maine and I love Lie Nielsen. Thats me just having a bit of fun.

Not gonna lie... my favorite part of the video was hearing you address your son as Sir. May seem minor to some but teaching or showing young ones that respecting people older or younger than themselves is a great place to start with people, even if he didn't catch this time.

I’m about to be a dad (wife is due in a few days) and this got me really pumped about doing projects with him in the future. Also, great video as always. You and Sawyer Design are my two favorite woodworkers on CZcams.
Congratulations. It’ll be tough to get projects done for a year or two. Once they can safely come in the shop it’s a real treat to teach them and watch them learn.
First thing to buy for the little one is ear protection. Each of my three kids have their own so they can hang out with me in the shop and I don’t have to worry about their hearing.

Mike having raised 5 it varies but say 12/13 yrs old when he starts charging hair styles and talking in low whispers to his friends? However ; I want to encourage you to teach , teach! Now my son is a better fly fisherman and he got me into carpentry at say 55? Now I still am a contractor doing finish work after retiring once? Then finding out there is “no quitting in life” !

The biggest domino tip I got from Sedge is that you only need one tight setting domino per joint, reference that from an edge on both pieces, and then cut the rest on the medium setting. You don’t lose strength, but it makes assembly much easier
I like the tight setting for one side then the loose for the other. This way I hammer in the dominos on the tight side and they will stay in place as I fight the piece together. Sorry I don't know who Sedge is.
