In this video I build some much needed storage for my glorious shop, The Boardroom. I share a few cabinet making pro tips as well as a few of my thoughts on cabinets for the wood shop. I also use a few neat pieces of hardware you may not have seen as well as a couple cool jigs. Let's go!

Your favorite woodworker’s favorite woodworker is back! Setting the internet on fire with haute fashion, parsimonious spending all the while dodging “ouchies”.
Ha! Thank you.
I never get tired of watching your videos again and again and revisiting your dry humor. Kills me.
Your Shop furniture is better than my regular furniture
Thank you.
He who dies with the most clamps wins! “Wrapped Around Your Finger” is my favorite Police song. Anyone who can bring Greek mythology (Scylla and Charibdes) and German folklore (Mephistopheles) into the lyrics of a song, deserves for people to enjoy the song. Also, the video to that song is an iconic video in my memories of binge watching MTV back in the day.
I am a big fan of that song. Musically great and the lyrics are as well. Thank you.
Envy your skill, shop, and job. A long time dream. And one to remain a dream sadly.
Thank you. Sorry to hear that.
I knew a man who always said "Slicker than snot on a door knob".
I like that one. I'm gonna use it.
@20:48 Reminds of the Key and Peele reference. “Go ahead, make fun of the burn, I can take iiiiitttt” 😂
Ha! I love those guys.
I watch these videos for about 20% woodworking content and 80% for the stellar commentary
Ha! Thank you very much.
@@MikeFarrington okay 50/50 lol
@@jds604 Still a pretty acceptable ratio.
It's about time I found an actual cabinet maker on CZcams. I have been making cabinets for 15 years and am so tired of seeing everyone over complicate everything. Sometimes, I wonder if they even know how to use a nail gun.
There are a lot of wannabes on CZcams, that is for sure.
Mike Farmington the only videos I hit the “like” button before actually watching the video
Ha! Thank you.
In my opinion, you have the best content in this category. I love the attention to detail and overall "perfect-ness" of everything you do! I anxiously await your next video..
Wow, thank you!
Thanks Mike. Another beaut video.
Boots and shorts are pretty standard here in Australia, especially during Summer in our Men's Shed.
In a sentence you do not need to put "in my opinion" because you're already giving your opinion by putting something in the replies
@@SaM_H364 Wow, thanks mister.. I ALWAYS love and appreciate unsolicited advice.
@@SaM_H364 nice grammar lesson ;)
I find almost nothing is more satisfying than shop organization 😊 So happy to see a Mike Farrington video on a friday! Nice work as usual!
Yay! Thank you!
you need to have a word with your GF/wife i think ;)
The tab on the lower carcass is pure genius. You shall now be Amadeus Farrington.
Thank you. That is a neat trick.
A vertical laser level lined up with the magnets will tell you where the entire stud should be.
So glad to see another video. I definitely look forward to your content.
Thank you. The laser works, but its often shadowed when installing cabinets.
@@MikeFarrington That makes sense. I was thinking on a tall ladder a distance away though I guess ones own body would block it.
@@truthvirus There is always a way to adjust and make it work, such as a ladder or tripod, but I find that in most cases its easier to not mess with it.
@@MikeFarrington Fair enough. You definitely have more experience than I do. I have a pattern of making things overly complicated in my head.
@@truthvirus Yup, one lesson a craftsperson needs to learn is when and where to save time and when its worth it to spend time. There are no clear answers to this, its all about experience.
It is a true pleasure to watch you work!
I do some minor woodworking for fun. Not very good at it but I do enjoy it, and perhaps the Best analogy I can give is that of the occasional weekend golfer (which I also am) who loves to play, isn’t really that good, but also loves to watch the pros on TV.
Thank you very much!
Man , your workshop is nice now, great vid man , and nobody said, "co- plainer" once
Thank you. Are we not using the term co-plainer anymore?
Your conspicuous use of Robertson screws brought a tear to this Canadian's eye.
I use mostly Robertson screws these days.
Behind the band Rush, the square drive (Robertson) is my favorite thing to come out of Canada. Keep in mind I love Canada.
@@MikeFarrington My late Dad years ago, a fine carpenter too, used Robertson screws to seal the container which had our life's possessions when we moved from Canada back to my Dad's country of birth, Italy. This was back in the 70s. The customs officers at that end could not carry out their routine inspection because the Italians did not have the right screw drivers. All was fine though. They were just pleasantly intrigued and impressed that these screws existed.
@@akfisher7138 Great story, thank you for sharing.
at the start i thought...finally...something I can build...then you had to add dreaded hinges...excellent work as always....loved seeing the little tike
Thank you.
Thanks for sharing....something to do while recovering from Covid 👍
Thank you. Hope you recover quickly.
you ARE cool
the narration, song recommendation, not hiding the mistakes, sharing experience, recognizing the importance of the family, ....
that's all COOL
Thank you!
Mike, that "extra" slot could be for a "future" mail slot. Yeah, that sounds good. Great future planning. LOL
Ha! Love it.
I could watch you work all day. And I do. I’M RIGHT BEHIND YOU.
Ha! Thank you.
i dont know anything about cabinet making but this is god damn sick man. props
Thank you.
great design on this cabinet, but my #1 steal from this video is "Shop Aprincess" - thanks
Ha! Love that one.
I am surprised how modern and clean MDF doors and drawers look. Tons of respect to the folks who design the hinge system.
Thank you. I think MDF works great in the shop.
You know dude... I kind of cheer every time you make a new one!
Thank you. Great to hear.
I like that scribe marking tip.
Thank you. I think thats a good tip for sure.
Very nice. Also custom orthotics are a game changer if your on you feet all day.
Thank you. I should look into those.
@@MikeFarrington most physiotherapy places and chiropractic places offer them. Depending on your insurance they might be covered but even if not the cost is worth it if you have issues.
@@EvanDunville Good to know. Thank you.
ok, so now i have clamp and storage envy along with tool envy :P
Thank you.
Thank you very much. Somebody who talks to me properly (in the singular) - and only when necessary. Nice, dry style. Clear shooting and editing with proper rhythm and enough room to breathe. Oh, and the carpentry is pretty good too...
Thank you very much.
My wife thinks I'm crazy, of course, but I was super excited to see a new Mike Farrington video! You definitely rank among my top CZcams content providers. I always marvel at your ability to plan for what's to come during your build, rather than realizing it after you're too far into the project. That's the benefit of experience I guess... Maybe one day I'll have that level of experience! Keep the videos coming Mike.
Thank you Brian.
Using up extra bits and pieces is the best. In addition to making space, and saving money, there is also, "See, I told you it was a good idea to save those scraps/extras." And I need that sound/pin board for my sewing room. Thanks for that recommendation.
Thank you. There is a really nice feeling when I use up old materials.
Mike I love watching every single one of your videos. The dad jokes make it worth it, keep em coming!!
Glad you like them!
I like what u did there. “Shop aprincess.” Love it.
Ha! Thank you.
The Police rock! Copeland is 2nd greatest drummer of all time, just behind Levon. Great video! I’m new here and enjoying all the content. Your attention to detail and organization would make my CPA mother proud…that’s saying a lot
Awesome! Thank you!
Saw the Police on the Synchronicity tour in 1983 ... Joan Jett opened for them and they kicked off the concert playing ... Synchronicity II! Good times
I bet that was a pretty good concert.
I miss seeing your regular posts, humor and great content.
Fingers crossed things keep going well and you will start seeing more from me. Just need to tie up a few loose ends.
Just found the channel. I subscribed of course it was because of the Shop Princess. All CZcams proceeds are duly hers.
Ha! Thank you.
I’m still reeling from the fact that Mike Farrington appears to have a cache of Harbor Freight f clamps. They go well with the cargo shorts and boots I guess. Really enjoy your videos and the pace, well done and thank you.
Thank you. Those clamps are really good for the money.
You are absolutely my favorite CZcamsr at this point! Please keep putting out videos!
Thank you very much.
Pretty nice, I enjoy your work and commentary.
Thank you.
"use the force"...that got me chuckling. Good one.
Ha! Thank you.
Lot of good ideas in this one. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Shop apprincess was a good one.
Thank you.
I am impressed by the confidence you have in the screws in the wall holding that many clamps up.
More than enough strength.
Hmmmmmmmm 😊 Your content is soooo satisfying. Thank you, THE main man👍🏻
Thank you very much.
OMG ledger and levelers 🦄!
Thank you. That is a neat trick.
Mike is AWESOMELY COOL !!!
Thanks!
A man who doesn't sneer at mdf. I especially like the uv coated variation, in either white or grey, as you can use the front of your cabinets for a whiteboard, and they're too slick to collect much dust.
Thank you. I haven't seen UV coated stuff. I will need to ask my supplier.
@@MikeFarrington Hey Mike, when I was a shop teacher I got all we could use from a plant in Bend, OR, out of business now, but someone has to make it. Oddly enough, one use was the board under the belt of a treadmill, a super high wear application where melamine would fail. They made white, black, grey, tan, and pink. Main market was high end board rooms that were too cool to use institutional white. Also, there are some incredible printed stuff comming out of Asia, but hasn't caught on here. Any wild print one can imagine, with a super gloss top coat. I'll look for a link.
@@bob_frazier Very interesting. I like the treadmill application. Makes perfect sense.
I love the clamp cabinet!
Thank you.
Favorite woodworking videos on CZcams. I get excited to watch someone else do my job when you post lol!
Wow, thanks!
excellent work , filipino subscriber here 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you.
Great to see you work with such warped plywood. Makes me feel better about some of the janky pieces I’ve worked with. The screw and hammer alignment trick was pretty dope also. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you.
We recently moved to Denver from Houston, where my shop had evolved oved a number of years. Now that I'm completely upended, this is quite helpful in pointing me to New Ways. Thank you, Sir.
Thats great to hear. Good luck with the new shop.
Men I missed your videos. Amazing cabinets and workshop. Keep them coming!
More to come!
Take a good look. This is how a cool guy looks. ;)
Mike ... The extra slots in the back side of that cabinet were just predicting that you'd want optical network so preparing in advance for that. ;)
... And that comment was posted before I saw your screensaver(s). =)
Ha! I should have said that in the video. This cutout is for future wiring.
Very good use of materials.
Thank you.
Gotta say I was super excited when I saw you made a video. I was like YES!!! Great job as always Mike! Love all the pro tips and laugh’s. Looking forward to the next one.
Awesome! Thank you!
Beautiful young "Shop A-princess" who is more than willing to offer her assistance. Great to see Dads who love to share their work with their children, instilling the appreciation of woodworking from an early age. How long has it taken for you to amass so many clamps, track saw blades, and the other goodies in your shop?
Thank you. I have been woodworking since I was about 18. So lots of years.
Awesome cabinet, going to share this with my brother Mike, he is a bricklayer who likes working wood in his spare time. May the Force be with you
Thank you.
Mike you make some awesome videos and projects.
Thank you.
I still love that adjustable work table. Nicely done, Mike.
Thanks 👍
I admired this piece when I was at the shop. Cool seeing it go together!
Thanks Marc, you're the man.
Nice "whisper" of a humble brag. Subtle shameless self-promotion
@@makemoneywoodworking lol what
I work in FL. Workboots and shorts is a real dress code.
Haha!
Excellent work once again!
Thanks again!
IKEA uses Blum hinges and drawer slides. They're fantastic.
Thank you.
Yes F clamps is short for Farrington clamps! 100% correct!
Haha! I noticed your name, that gave me a good chuckle.
Mike, no doubt you very talented but your ability to remove poly from the countertop takes it to a level like no other... 😎
Ha! Thank you.
My 5-year-old daughter and I were watching this together and she says “dad, why is there a car in the garage?”. I guess she doesn’t know what garages are actually meant for.
Haha!
I think she knows what garages are for! Daddy/daughter workshop.
It’s been great watching your videos Mike. Keep it up and stay well.
Thanks, will do!
Is it weird that I'm this jealous of all your parallel clamps? Cuz I am
Thank you. I've been collecting those clamps for years.
Mike is so cool!
Ha! Only compared to some.
WHO DOESN'T LIKE MIKE FARRINGTON?
Besides me?
good job on the cab. looks really good..
Thank you.
I could have used you a few years back when I was doing my clamp rack and storage cabinets. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.
Thanks for watching!
So many great tips, as always! Thanks Mike!
My pleasure.
@16:47 "if you don't like that song...opinions can be wrong" LOLOLOL. That adjustable leg only in the front is such a great idea. Simple *once* you see it. And I can't believe your shop cabinets look better than most home cabinets. Check that...yes, I can believe it! As always, love your videos. And if you decide to hold that "in person" boot camp, please give us plenty of heads up to clear the calendar.
Thank you. Will do.
Best woodworker on the Tube! Plus music recommendations 👍
Thanks Mark!
Great video and thanks for pointing out why you picked your drawer / door handles. 25 years ago I used some similar to what many CZcams makers are using now and after catching my shop apron and pants on them, I now use the ones similar to the ones you use. Good job, good video.
new mike farrington video, I couldn't possibly click fast enough.
Thank you.
Always a joy watching your videos, keep being you man!
Thanks, will do!
Just painted my floor today ready to add storage. Perfect timing! Thanks

Great build as always Mike, I was wondering when we were going to see something new from you. Very nice approach to the clamp rack.
Thanks Jay.
your work is always nice and detailed. respect.

You simply make this look way too easy. Well done
Thank you! Cheers!
The Oodles of Noodles comment made my day!! Also for next time, work boots and shorts is colloquially known as "Roofer Style" in the trades. :) Also, excellent video as always!
I love that Roofer Style. I'm gonna use that.

Another great video. And useful storage cabinets. That corner of the shop looks great.
Thank you. That was kinda the idea, get at least this corner looking better.
Just stumbled upon this. I hadn't seen any of your videos before. I love the thoughtful way you go about things and you provide great information at exactly the right level. Finally all it took was hearing "Synchronicity 2" and I was hooked. Had to hit the Subscribe Button.
Thank you. Great to have you onboard.
That was excellent...and I may adopt/adapt the whole methodology for storage when my new shop building is up later in the year.
Excellent!
Just discovered you and subscribed! Timing perfect as I’m getting ready to build out another phase of my garage shop - thanks!!
