- This is my personal top 43 songs in Eurovision Song Contest 2008. Enable the subtitles for the comments. Please, enjoy!
The Eurovision Song Contest 2008 was the 53rd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Belgrade, Serbia, following the country's victory at the 2007 contest with the song "Molitva" by Marija Šerifović. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), the contest was held at the Belgrade Arena, and (for the first time) consisted of two semi-finals on 20 and 22 May, and the grand final on 24 May 2008. The three live shows were presented by Jovana Janković and Željko Joksimović. It was the first, and as of 2021, only Eurovision Song Contest held in a former Yugoslav republic with the 1990 contest in Zagreb being held before the dissolution of the country.
Forty-three countries participated in the contest, beating the record of forty-two set the year before. Azerbaijan and San Marino participated for the first time, while Austria did not return, mainly due to questions on the semi-final organisation, and the politicization of the contest.
The winner was Russia with the song "Believe", performed by Dima Bilan who wrote it with Jim Beanz. This was Russia's first victory in the contest, and the third year finishing in the top three. Ukraine, Greece, Armenia and Norway rounded out the top five. Armenia achieved their best result to date this year. Of the "Big Four" countries Spain placed the highest, finishing sixteenth, while the United Kingdom ended up in last place for the second time in their Eurovision history, after 2003.
The official website, eurovision.tv, streamed national finals for this year's contest live on ESCTV for the first time. Furthermore, for the first time the winner has been awarded an official winner's trophy of the Eurovision Song Contest. The trophy is a handmade piece of sandblasted glass in the shape of a 1950s microphone.

There's one good thing about this year's songs, they're all risky. None of them are safe play. They either suck or are very good. My favorites are Armenia Greece Ukraine
I disagree Believe is as bog standard as they come only the staging is not safe.
I knew coming in that Dima wouldn't be #1 cause I agree that there were better songs...but 14!!!! Dude!!! I also have to say that I really appreciate the work you do for these videos and bringing this taste of Eurovision to those of us across the pond. As a Canadian, I never got to see any of the really low entries, mostly the top 10's in the early 2010's. Being able to hear the good and bad of the entire entry list from a single year is awesome. Thank you.

my second favorite year after 2009, so many extremely catchy songs, my winner is Ukraine, my 2nd is Malta, my 3rd is Latvia~

I love the Latvia song this year! So catchy, I caught myself singing it many years afterwards, even though I had only heard it once...
Although this won’t gain much traction, the UK this year was actually a good song and was screwed over by the running order. It deserved at least ten places higher
Iceland is my winner for that year with Switzerland and Norway as 2nd and 3rd. Kinda surprised Denmark is 2nd, since as I remember it's often ranked somewhere in the middle. Liked that song for my country that year, but would probably rank it somewhere between 10th and 15th. I respect your opinion, we all have our favorites and difference in which songs that speak to us.

I think this video is perhaps closer to a more acceptable result. The disparity between the actual results and the backup juries is what forced them to reintroduce juries - the British commentator, Terry Wogan, was so upset with the result he quit the contest there and then.

Oh yes the Switzerland my best winner for me ever and denmark too Iceland too and Norway the best country ever for me.
I agree on a few things with you here:
1. The UK's performance was severely underrated and should not have been last.
2. Switzerland should have also qualified.
3. Sweden's entry is pretty good but I think Sweden was banking too heavily on Charlotte Perelli since she's a previous winner.

This is first time when i absolutely agree with your winner. Norway was my favourite this year and i voted for her. Tho i might be (as Russian) upset of placing Dima Bilan, but i'm okay. At least he's not 43rd :) Actually nobody liked this song here in Russia :P

Con este vídeo me entero de que eres sueco... con lo que comprendo muchas cosas, jejeje ;-) Coincido en tu valoración positiva de Croacia (mi 4º) y Noruega (mi 3º), pero estoy absolutamente en desacuerdo con tus bajas posiciones a Portugal y Serbia. Tengo que decir que cometes varias contradicciones, como valorar negativamente a algunos países por mala vocalidad y sin embargo salvas a Eslovenia y Suiza, que desafinaron bastante (aunque este último sea un buen cantante probado). También consideras estupideces a Estonia, Bosnia&H. y España (totalmente de acuerdo) y sin embargo justificas a Irlanda y ... ¿¿¿Letonia en 9ª posición???

Along with 2018, this is one of the two weakest years of this century so far. Not sure if '8' on the end has something to do with it :)))
And this is the one and only year where my top 4 completely matched the final results! There was simply nothing to choose from. And only four relatively good songs took their well-deserved places.
And now I know how this forgettable, generic and simply boring song from Norway got its 5th place... Right, Lucas? ;)
