@@mosmotivation1223 Try Timeless if you don’t have sensitive skin and start with the 10% not the 20%. It’s one of the best (if not the best) from the affordable ones. It is l-ascorbic vitamin C, which is the purest active form of vitamin c, so if you have sensitive skin you might want to go with a vitamin C derivative. Goodal Vit-c serum and Skin&lab Vitamin c brightening serum are good alternatives for sensitive skin. The key to fading those spots is patience. It takes time and consistency to see the results. Also, use sunscreen and reapply every two hours if you are outside, more if you sweat.

I had a pico laser treatment in Thailand and it's the only thing that has worked for me. It didn't get rid of the sun spots, but it lightened them enough that they are easier to hide with make up. Will get a couple more treatments when I'm back there in a few months. It costs five times as much in Canada!

I tried just about everything that I could find over the counter and the results were pretty limited. I was pleasantly surprised when I was finally able to get botox for chronic migraine and within a week the hyperpigmentation was basically gone (or at least like 90% gone). Definitely doesn't qualify as holistic, but I'm really happy with the resulting decrease in headaches and dark spots.

If you’re asian with olive skin stay away from IPL. My sister and I had great results with our first couple of treatments. Basically your dark spots get crispy and fall off like scabs but return after a few months. After our third treatments (they increase the intensity of your treatments), we noticed patches of dark spots appearing where there were none before. It’s been a couple of years and the new dark spots (patches) caused by IPL are still there. Surprisingly my original dark spots have faded, almost disappearing completely. I’ve been using various brightening serums but the key was adding a glycolic peel mask to my weekly routine.

ASIANS- Be cautious and research if you’re thinking of getting IPL treatments
I was happy with my first 2 treatments but then after my 3rd treatment some new spots showed up and some spots that were already there got darker. Maybe if I continued having treatments the spots might have eventually gotten lighter but that would take time and a lot of money. So I was left with my skin looking worse than before I had the IPLs! Fraxel laser treatment is another treatment I would pass on. Generally speaking Asians and other darker skinned people are more at risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after laser treatments. I wish I knew this before my treatments

I used ALL of the hyperpigmentation treatments with no noticeable improvement. Lasers, hydroquinone, niacinimide, glycolic acid (laroche's - this seemed to do a little something), vitamin c, retinoid, and multiple eye creams. I was on a 6 month struggle bus trying to treat this. I ordered nipple cream for lips and decided to see if putting it on my dark eye circles and hyperpigmented smile lines would work. I woke up the next morning and had a 60% reduction. By the end of the week, I had a 90% reduction in the dark eye circles. The dark smile line is completely gone on 1 side of my face.

My mother used to say, "When you get old, your skin sprouts weeds." Now I'm at that age and boy, she was right! It seems lately every day is a new surprise. As an adult, I've always avoided the sun, but like you mentioned, I was in the sun a lot as a child and it's showing. I'm light skinned but have a quarter-sized melasma right in the middle of my forehead which embarrasses me so much. I was thinking maybe a light colored tattoo would work if nothing else would, though I first have to win the lottery even for that. Thank you so much, Dr. Youn, for your very interesting information!

Going back to the caster oil I found applying it to my eyelids made my lines look less obvious and stoped dry eye condition I had and my eyes from running when they got dry in the winter month’s. .
