    The Cummins engine has a sound all it's own. Even the new quiet ones. I can tell if a truck has a Cummins engine without even seeing the truck. Some people may find that strange. But for me the sound of a Cummins Turbo Diesel is like music to my ears. Cummins is the best.
    Why settle for less?

    Wasting your time the Titan isn't built to compare with any 3/4 ton.
    It's in a class of its own and doing well at it.

      Jean-claude chiasson i agree. Some dont need the power of a 6.7 or bigger engine but need a bit more than what the current 2500s offer in gassers.

    One feature I love on the titan is the in cab headlight adjuster. Great for towing where you can put the light back on the road where it belongs with the simple click of a thumb wheel. Also the titan xd has an Aisin transmission as well.

    I own a XD Cummins, I pull at max towing capacity, this is my first diesel, and wanted to give the underdog a chance. That being said, as he said, both are in there own category, though it can’t tow much more then that of a gasser, it doesn’t scream climbing hills, it has a nice ride, comfortable seats, plenty of room, I think a little more dash, it does have a nice all around feel and drive. The price point is what it comes down to, baby Cummins are not equal to the big brother in-lines. Eventually I will “grow up” to big brother. But I think we all agree...Cummins are still amazing engines. It will be a sweet sorrow when I trade up.

    My dad has a Nissan XD that I use to pull a trailer, haul hay, and haul feed. That being said Nissan underrated the hell out of these engines. I also did some research on all the 3/4 tons and the Nissan. What I found out is that Nissan’s “towing capacity” is just under 12k pounds and the 3/4 tons are rated at around (on average) 12,500 pounds.

    • @aboriginalmuur1661
      @aboriginalmuur1661 Před rokem

      The towing capacity was underrated as well. These trucks are towing 12,000-12,500 ALL DAY WITHOUT A SWEAT. They’re actually in the 2500 conversation in my honest opinion. That damn Cummins five oh is making over 400HP and over 600 In Feet at the crank. 4 cams, smooth running and powerful. Just another Cummins product!

    Yeah the comments about "luxury" appointments versus "spartan" utility are a bit off-base. We own a Ram Longhorn MegaCab 2500 Cummins 6.7L 4x4 that has video monitors for the rear passengers. Not that I ever wanted all of these bells and whistles, but the top of line Nissan Titan Platinum 4x4 that I test drove about a week ago didn't have some of the luxury items that the Longhorn has come with for years.

    • @everycarSeattle
      @everycarSeattle  Před 5 lety

      You are absolutely right Timberwright that the highest end of Dodge exceeds the highest end of Nissan. Here in Hawaii, the levels I chose were pretty close to the same price and pound for pound the Nissan blew the doors off of the Dodge...however, both are used now and I would think that the highest end Dodge could be had for even money with a less-equipped Nissan. On the new truck side, the new Ram is all-new and the top of the line is obviously fantastic. The Nissan is the same as it was in 2016. Thank you so much for your comments and have a wonderful 2019.

    Overall good review, but several comments:
    1. It is important know your height for viewers to understand the difference in interior space. I felt the Ram is indeed visiblly smaller
    2. The Ram has a manual tranny while the nissan has an auto tranny, if equally equiped, the price difference would be ~4K

    • @everycarSeattle
      @everycarSeattle  Před 7 lety +1

      The Mercedes G56 6 speed in the Ram is an old but excellent transmission. Sadly, it looks like it's being phased out. The new transmissions from Aisin (as well as Allison and Ford) simply pull A LOT more and are just as economical. I think the Aisin, especially the AS69 might be the best truck transmission going right now. p.s I'm 6'0", I normally mentioned that but missed it this time. Thank you very much for taking a look!

    • @AATreeService
      @AATreeService Před 7 lety

      the upgraded trans aisen is about a 2000 dollar add on as of last year. I do know the g56 is getting phased out because it isn't strong enough. If ou look at the numbers the g56 is the most problematic heavy truck transmission on the market. Since fiat bough Daimler they took big steps to phase out this trans because that is the number one problem with the dodge trucks. "Bad transmission" was always brought up when talking about dodge. Hopefully that is not anymore because I will have a new ram when mine hits 100k which will be soon

      One of the great secrets in the industry is that it's only about $1000 for the dealer to add aftermarket leather in any color you want to just about anything. (Of course, they want to mark it up, a lot) For a little bit more you can do 2-tone or custom graphics - and more often than not, the quality is every bit as good if not better than factory. However, if you want the factory leather, you are absolutely right LH that leather seats are a factory option in the Ram. Thanks for taking a look and happy holidays to you.

    The Nissan is a bit of a black sheep so to speak. It's a bit big to be a half ton, but can come with a factory gooseneck hitch, yet it isn't a 3/4 ton to take advantage of bigger brakes and generally heavier components for the go and whoa. Personally I don't care about the luxury interior, I'm going to jump into it anyhow whether I'm covered in mud or grease because I need it to work more than I need fancy.

    the Nissan combo of cummins/aisin is a good one. but the entire drive train and suspension is in the 1/2T category, and not up to the strength of the Ram 3/4T category. a quick look at the undercarriage will prove this. the Nissan is in fact a 1/2T truck that can be pushed, "on occasion", up into the low-end 3/4T capacity for short durations. folks, with the Nissan, you are buying a 1/2T truck, and the most expensive one on the market today.

I do see some actually working and towing what they were built for, but its rare. That Titan is for the guys that want the "C" badge, but will never tow or haul a damn thing. Trucks are for work, not looking cool and telling everyone how you can haul 30,000 lbs.

      No, it does NOT have the same torque nor more hp than an '05 Dodge. The '05 Cummins was rated 325hp and 600ft-lb.
      Go drive a stock '03 Dodge HO (305hp/555ft-lb) and a stock Titan XD (310hp/555ft-lb) and tell me they produce the same power. They do not.
      There's so much torque management on the 5.0 in the XD, it's not even funny. I've got an '03 HO manual and it makes WAY more power just driving around than the 5.0 could ever pretend to have. Ratings be damned.

    the manual transmission available in the Ram pickups has nothing to do with Mercedes Benz, nor does it have anything to do with Daimler Chrysler. its a Getrag transmission, which is the world's largest transmission producer. they make transmissions for several major auto manufacturers and the particular transmission found in the Ram is the G56, a medium duty class transmission. NOTHING to do with Benz. been hearing this a lot lately.

    • @everycarSeattle
      @everycarSeattle  Před 5 lety

      Money-wise these were the best comparisons. Dodge has much higher end models than Nissan does, but they cost more. Both trucks are obviously great, but in two very different ways. The Dodge will appeal to someone who appreciates maximum work-related performance while Nissan appeals to someone who also needs a daily driver. Thanks for taking a look jdpaeth and happy holidays!

    • @jdpaeth
      @jdpaeth Před 5 lety

      @@everycarSeattle, the Titan you are reviewing has an MSRP of around $60k... nearly $8k more than the RAM you are "fairly comparing" it against. Guess what the MSRP of a RAM 2500 Laramie with a Cummins is? You Guessed it... around $60k
      Also you're saying RAM doesn't make a truck worthy of daily driving? Have you driven a RAM 2500? It rides as smooth as my RAM 1500 with air suspension. RAM 2500 are the only HD trucks to keep coil link rear suspension, so they ride immaculately.
      Lastly, you work at a dealership, it's not a Dodge... it's a RAM. Been that way for 9 years.

    • @everycarSeattle
      @everycarSeattle  Před 5 lety

      Maybe...but I've driven them both a lot and know the differences firsthand very clearly...maybe you have driven them both much more than me and maybe you've never driven either one a single time, I don't know. I know I'm partial to the Nissan for a variety of reasons, probably the biggest reason is that Dodge (Ram) pushes the red, white and blue angle so much and makes the 2500 in Mexico. That part really bugs me to be honest. The Nissan is made in Mississippi.

    • @jdpaeth
      @jdpaeth Před 5 lety

      @@everycarSeattle But I guess you havent driven them enough to know how much the RAM (not Dodge) actually costs. My whole point with my first comment is that you aren't comparing apples to apples. I understand that you wanted to do a cute comparison between the two truck brands that put Cummins diesel engines in their trucks, and maybe you're just working with what you have in inventory; But you are comparing a $60k HALF-TON to a bare bones RAM that is at least $8k less. AND that you could have compared it to a superior 3/4-ton truck that costs the same as the Nissan in a Laramie trim level.
      And by the way, RAM is moving HD truck production to Michigan for the redesigned model. And if you want to rip on them for being "un-American" and call the truck the wrong brand.. you're missing the opportunity to call them a Fiat.
      Nissan makes overpriced garbage... but I guess they have Americans make it so we (you) feel better about buying their crap.

One of the big problems seems to be with the dealers themselves and their inexperience handling so much new technology at once. I applaud Nissan's effort but they really should have spent a lot more time getting the dealers on board...there's a reason why nobody else became a heavy-duty truck company overnight...including Toyota.

      I own a 2016. Had serious issues with the EGR system, DEF system, coolant tanks splitting, engine power reduced, front end issues, etc. I've lifted the truck which did away with a majority of the factory components and haven't had any issues since. The ENTIRE EGR system has been replaced six times. The ENTIRE DEF system has been replaced four times. I've deleted, the EGR and DEF systems, tuned it, straight piped it, installed an oil catch can and installed a fully welded aluminum coolant tank. The catch can and coolant tank are made by CFT performance and highly recommend anything they sell. No, I'm not trying to plug them in just saying after doing the work to the truck it's a badass machine. Lesson learned, I won't be buying any first generation trucks from now on. One positive thing I will say about Nissan is their warranty is AMAZING. Any issue I had while under warranty was a no questions asked, always got me a courtesy truck and kept me involved through each time it was in the shop which was a lot. I've heard much better things about the 2018's and 2019's.

    Just a small correction. You mention a million gallons of diesel fuel and NOT gasoline!right? Also the Allison trans is the best! Of these two, I would hands down buy the Ram! While not in the need for 900lbs tq I could make due with the reg auto or the manual. But if I was to buy a full size diesel, it would have to be either the newest Chevy with over 900 ft lbs. or a Ford SD diesel with over 900 ft. Lbs. for a little more money than the import brand. It would come down to either ordering exactly what I wanted, or finding a close match at both a Chevy or Ford dealer and going for the best bottom line. If ordering a truck, you do get an advantage with the Ram, there are more options and colors to choose from. But the Chevy and Ford has more technology available. Also Ford and Ram have some very nice interiors available if you want to spend the money. Also Ford and Chevy along with Ram have some really powerful gas engines available to save on costs upfront.
