- This outdated, country style bench is getting a serious update to a more classy, contemporary style with the help of a little chalk paint and a brand new oak wood base. This definitely isn’t a beginner level project but I hope it can help you see the potential in some of your own unloved furniture and maybe try updating it yourself instead of buying new.

Women teaching women! Such a wonderful act of caring. My dad, brothers nor husband had the patience to teach me. But I have watched DIY videos and learned to overcome my fears and accomplish my goals. Fearless ladies -- my heroes!
😻❤️
Also teaching man jajaja, i do furniture and i always see her vudeos to know stuff i dont know and ofcourse to se all the beauty things she does.
Same here darling....power too the women 😘
Man here, I refurnish furniture.
You’re hands-down the best at re-styling and transforming pieces. Amazing transformation!
NataLee from Designed to the Nines always encourages women to use power tools. She would be so proud of you! I think you did a fantastic job and was really surprised that this was your first time adding wood work to a piece. 💕
You can really see the sage green undertone of the paint in the bright, natural light. Great job! I love this piece!
Honestly kudos to use for trying something new it’s really scary going outside of your comfort zone It looks absolutely beautiful
I love Saturdays with k.scott! Always so fun to watch you flip furniture and see your designs come to life!
Love your videos - no self promoting bs, pleasant music not overdone, good quality camera work, specific instructions - just a pleasure to watch. Thank you!
I love Andrea too. She has made me want to try this. I’m so glad you tried first. 😂
Way to go, you built that base like a pro! And of course the transformation is beautiful as always!
The amount of detail in this video is amazing....
Can I just say I LOVE when you say you’re not sure how to do something but you’re willing to try and figure it out anyway! I love that you’re willing to work with “less desirable” pieces which would take up just as much room at the landfill and in a shorter amount of time. They can still be gorgeous useful profitable pieces. I just snagged my first curb alert 3 drawer bureau so here goes nothin! I want to turn it into an “anything you want it to be” modern cabinet with a new base & legs. Excited!
What a terrific reinvention of a cedar chest. Super impressive.
Amazing transformation, you are amongst the best of the furniture flippers and I am learning so much from you. Thank you from the UK.
She truly is, isn't she!!
I really like and appreciate that you went outside of your comfort zone and made that base and took us along for the ride. The base looks very professional and the finished piece looks very smart. Well done you!
Listen Katie Scott, I know doing something new on camera was nerve racking but I had no doubt you would slay! You are so smart and so pretty and I believe in you. You are the first person to show me how to paint furniture and you give this girl faith that I can do it too.
What a fantastic achievement making the new base. It looks amazing ❤
This is absolutely STUNNING! I don’t normally comment on videos but this blew me away. Your channel is so inspiring!
So proud of you. You pushed yourself to do something you’ve never done. Once again you got me inspired ❤️
Congratulations on the DIY Wife inspired new base legs --- it looks superb --- the whole piece does!!
The dried sage color is perfect for the chest!!
Loved the satisfied nod you gave when you knocked off the piece of trim on the bottom! Kudos to you for trying something new. You breathed new life into this piece. It looks tons better.
This piece turned out beautiful! I’m totally inspired to fix a few pieces in my home with that beautiful base! Great job!
You did a great job in this one! I think you have opened a whole new world for yourself with the wood build. Looking forward to more masterpieces from you! 💖💖💖
Thank you so much for this. The fact that you AREN'T talking about how 'easy' the base is to build, is boosting my confidence. I might actually get brave enough to try it now!! 💛
I have a similar piece. It has the same base. Different top. It was the first ever piece of furniture I bought. It was the summer after I graduated. 1993. Lol. I’m handing it down to my daughter. I’ve planned on painting it. But a new base is a great idea! I’m a woodworker and I already have a Kroger jig. So I’m set. I’m super proud of you making your base. Awesome! I love this piece.
Oh yeah.... I see green.
Great job, it turned out beautiful! I have no doubt that you can continue learning the carpentry skills to enhance your flips. ⭐
Claims not to be good at something and then knocks it out of the park! Another beauty.
WOW!!! This went from a frumpy old bench, to a very classy bench. I have a dresser that could use the beautiful modern legs, so thank you, mucho!
Katie, you revived an old tire chest into a stunning woodwork piece to be proudly displayed in a home anywhere! Great job! Doug😁👍
YESSSS !! Ever since I've subscribed to your channel, I've been hoping you'd start using power tools.. You've totally got this !! Legs look great !!
Katie you are a miracle worker! That outdated chest looked like "crap" (excuse the language), but the truth is welcome in Heaven...you completely updated it and even though it was beige in the workshop, it was definitely a dry sage in the house and beautiful, It was!! Girl you are amazing!
Wow. I always hated those tacky benches. It looks stunning. Bravo 👏 👏 👏
1. You are so funny. I love your personality. 2. You explain things so well! 3. Your show is SO great. I look forward to it every week!!!!!! Thank you for posting. I really appreciate it.
Congrats for building the new base all by yourself! You have a lot to be proud of!
Yippee Katie!!! Must feel so good to get that base built all by yourself! Another awesome job!
I love the simplicity, clean lines and color of this.
and Mrs T well done brave lady great job looks lovely
I was so happy when you just hammer off the top trim. That along with taking the handles off made a world of difference. I feel like you described it best, remove all the things you don't like to start. Even if you don't know what you want to do, sometimes the vision comes after that.
I love that you made your own base. So beautiful. I have also wanted to use the diy wife tutorial to try my own base in the future. Great job learning how to use the kraig jig! They are kind of complicated at first! But a very useful tool!
finally someone is teaching us how to make a base...thank you for sharing knowledge with us...thanks
I can’t believe this is the same piece! Well done! Thanks for another great video!
I’m so proud of you! Your vision is unbelievable! I love what you did!
This turned out so stunning! I love the color and I love the base you made! So inspirational! My favorite furniture flipper ❤️❤️❤️
I have a cedar chest from the 70’s and all I’d have to do would put a base on it and I’ve been wanting to try …. You have given me the inspiration to try. Thank you. Love all your videos.
Well done Katie!!! I love Andrea at DIY Wife as well… she is absolutely delightful!
Sincerely, Susan
I love your work- wish I lived closer so I could buy some of your pieces! Keep doing what you do 🤩 - a bit of love from Cali
We love DIY Mom. We have built her base too at least 3 times!
I find her husband really off putting. Makes it hard for me to get through the video.
@@czeidman8908 what an odd, gross, random comment... you do realize your not screaming into the wind. That's so rude to say about someone you don't know. Just because your anonymous doesn't mean you have free reign to hurt people... We're adults are we not. Let's not bully.
@@sbabywhine
Sometimes someone just rubs a person the wrong way. C. Zeidman didn't call him names or say disparaging things about him. There was no bullying. They just said her husband puts them off watching that channel. It happens. We're all adults here, I presume. I think we all acknowledge that there are people who appeal to us & those who don't. That's life.
@@czeidman8908
I agree with you.
@@md61211 she said he was off putting..
. I'm sorry, didn't realize "off putting" could ever mean something positive. Go ahead... you can agree with her and continue to gossip and bully on an open forum but please.... let's just call it what it is. It's no wonder there's such an issue in schools today if this is how the adults act. I mean "if you don't have anything nice to say then".... you know the rest...
Holy hope chest Batman!! This turned out amazing! Awesome job girl!🤩🤩🤩
U’re. Awesome! I started doing this 20 yrs ago, but I can’t do it anymore due to chronic illness that limits my mobility! I so enjoy watching u! This piece is stunning! 💜🥰😻2U!
Absolutely Beautiful!! You do such great work ! So talented!
So proud of you, friend! Killed it!
The furniture flipping community (or FFC as I like to call it) is so friendly, supportive and welcoming! Its It's refreshing to see this on CZcams !
I wonder if you sold this. I made one exactly like it, can't sell it.
I have a bench in our bedroom that is in need of a make over. This just gave me the push. I am doing my dining room set over… chairs are done. Your coffee table makeover was amazing!!!!
Look at you!! Go girl! I am so smitten with this redo. I wish it was mine! You did a scrumpdillyicious (sp) job!
That looks great! I have a chest to make-over, so you gave me great inspiration 👍🏼 thanks
I recognized that base the minute I saw it in the thumbnail. Was sooo glad you gave credit to DIY Wife, whose videos I also watch (but not as much as I watch yours) & whose signature base was the one you used. Was really pleased you gave her that shout out. Love your channel even more now (is that actually possible?).
Always gotta give credit where credit is due! It’s super important to me to build up and shout out all the genius ideas that come out of our furniture community.
Nice restyling, Katie! You work magic with your pieces. You should be proud of yourself.
You were as clear as day in explaining your processes. No worries.
Congrats on that awesome achievement. Such a satisfying feeling to know you’ve made something yourself and figured out how to use new equipment. Awesome result!
Admire your making that base! Love that feeling of doing something you've never done before and loving the final outcome! Whoot!
I’m impressed with your workmanship or should I say workwomanship♥️. I’m a bit jealous of your tools since all I have is a screwdriver, hammer and a puddy knife 😩
On the contrary, I think this means you really are a woodworker. Beautiful work!
LOVE this
Beautiful piece of furniture. It is definitely a peaceful shade if green.
Love it. Beautiful. GREEN undertone for sure. Lovely.
Nada dio más sin pedir nada a cambio. Nada vivió más aún estando muerta. Cálida, áspera, suave y casi eterna.... La madera.
Saludos desde Barcelona, España 👌 🙋♂️
Like Christina said, You killed it! WhooooHooooo!!!
Wonderful results! You are blessed to have the garage space and compressor for spraying your finishes, but exploring outside your comfort zone is the real victory!
Back in the day, chests like this cedar one, but usually with a solid lid and not glued on tapestry, were called "hope chests". A young lady would crochet or embroider linens for the home she hoped to someday have. If she was fortunate enough, she would inherit nice linen table cloths or napkins. The bed linens were always new, and she would embroider the trimming on them. 💘
You Go Katie! Looks very nice. Glad you still have all your digits. Nice sage color, too.
Sage as in the plant is a pale dusky green so I think the colour is spot on
Well done Katie with your new skills
So proud of you Katie!!!! Job well done! That chest totally looked taupe in your garage, but inside the house, it is definitely green!!
Katie, although I am a huge fan of Andrea of DIY Wife, you are second to none. If you lived in my area of the USA, I would be a frequent customer. I love your transformations. And ofcourse your spirit.
I looove that colour! To me it looks more green but a neutral one…if that makes sense. It’s really calming and soft.
Congratulations on your first wood working venture. You did great! Those saws scare the jeepers out of me!
Beautiful result❤
Terrific Job! I love that you overcame your woodworking fear and went for the base yourself. Well done! I just started working with wood at the end of last year. I'm in my sixties but decided I'm never too old to learn something new. First project was a large walk-in master closet/dressing room. I understand that speechlessness associated with pulling off a new skill. Woop!
Yay! It’s pretty empowering when you complete a job that you never thought you’d be capable of ❤️
It came out beautiful and yes it does look like it has a green undertone
Katie another beautiful creation 😱😱👍🏼💖
It's high quality, now because of how you transformed it! I think 325.00 is definitely a fast sale for what you did. You deserve to ask more girl
Usually I don't love furniture with green color but this piece looks extraordinary and it is real precious after the refurbish! 👍👍👍
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! And I’m super proud of you as well for trying something new!!!
Love it! Funny how beige while painting but definite date when done and inside! Love the natural base!!
That color is a sage green , starts off as beige , then it turns green ! Good Job !
WoW! It looks fabulous! It is definitely a sage green. Lovely color.
The breakdown of time and costs was real interesting too, thanks for doing that !!
That is absolutely beautiful and I love to see how your mind works. You run into a problem you don’t just throw your hands up and walk away you figure it out. You did a really good job on that base. The color is lovely and I don’t usually go for modern furniture, but I love the lines of this, great job!
You did so good,as always!
Love your honesty and humble character. The big momma's butta really transforms wood.
Wow, what a difference the base makes. I love it.
Katie, you are a magician. Absolutely stunning.
Very nice - leaving your comfort zone is how you grow … good for you
Good for you Katie! Impressed with trying scary new stuff ... and is gorgeous. And yep, it's green.
You are so funny! I say the exact same thing after every time I use my circular saw… I still have all my fingers.
So proud of you. 🎉
You are such a great teacher. Inspiring us to try something new. So grateful for all your videos.😘❤️🇨🇦
That base is wicked, well done. DIY Wife and your channel are my favourites.
Beautiful job - your base is perfect; well done Katie.
Thank you!
We are converting a school bus and the kreg jig is a total game changer! Looks great! You could've even kreg jigged the base to the cabinet!
Hi Katie, I loved watching the transformation of this piece, it is absolutely amazing! I think the color is more green than beige. I'll be joining you on the daring task of building your own base.
This looks amazing! And the colour looks exactly what it is named after.
Great job! And...the base was the reason I clicked on the video. I have an old dresser that I would like to update and that base is JUST the thing.
Nice job, Katie! hard to believe that it's the same piece of furniture. Now that it's dry, I can see the sage aspect.
One of your best transformations! Amazing!
Awesome Katie!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I’m a huge fan of @DIY Wife and her Base. I think everyone should have a Craig Jig in their toolbox.
Bravo on the remake. The base looks great also! Thanks for showing how to do it!!! Keep em comin'!!!!!!
Omg. 10:33. Same I am a painter, I’m kind of afraid of power tools. But I have her video saved in a list.
Thank you so much for doing this, maybe I can move past my fear. Because I LOVE these bases!!!
