  • In this video, join me, Katie Scott from SALVAGED by k. scott, as I take on the challenge of transforming a discarded reclaimed wood desk into a stunning piece of furniture. I found this desk in a trash pile during a bulky item pickup, and it had a wobbly base with broken metal legs. With some creative thinking and woodworking skills, I decided to build a new, sturdier base out of pine 2x2s and match the rustic white waxed finish of the desk's top.
I walk you through the entire process, from dismantling the old base to building a new one, adding pocket holes, and reinforcing it with brackets. After attaching the new base, I explain how I achieved the distressed wood look using stain and paint, and I share some handy cleaning and waxing tips to bring out the desk's beauty.
Finally, I discuss my pricing strategy for selling the desk, where I plan to list it, and my experiences with selling furniture through Facebook Marketplace. Pricing and selling furniture can be tricky, so I'll share my insights and the listing process with you.
If you're into furniture makeovers, DIY projects, or simply enjoy watching transformations, this video is for you. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe to my channel for more exciting salvaging adventures and creative projects!

That's what makes a successful channel IMO. That's pretty shocking that a piece costing that amount was not able to stand the test of time for probably even 4-5 years (since you say it is still on sale)! It looks fantastic after your treatment, and the wooden part looked in good shape (and solid wood too?),so it would have been such a waste to throw it all out! Great job, and an interesting video! kindest regards, k

    From : Gentlemen
In came the fancy gent ...all modern rough and sleek black shoes
The party soon changed to disaster
    and the trash heap loomed
As dump day approached , Ms Katie
was on the prowl... a lightening stop !
A little push and shove and smiles were on -- all the way home
" You giant jackpot ", Ms Katie mumbled
Work was needed ... shiny shoes -- gone ! With measure and cut the soft pine fell into place
There our sad boy stood ...
Once kicked and tossed ... now subtle and elegant... like a good tweed jacket
"You giant jackpot " was heard as Ms Katie dimmed the light with a soft wink ...

Thank you, Katie, for sharing your full and thorough process all the way through photography, pricing and posting. I had one question about the new base you built, which I especially watched with great interest. I noticed that you didn't put any protective "widgets" (for lack of the right terminology) on the bottom of the legs where the wood meets the floor. Do you recommend not attaching, say, those rounded thick pieces of felt or some other kind of material at the ends of the legs? Thank you!

Interested in knowing what scrub brush attachment you got, prepping out house to go on the market. Looking for scrubbing several surfaces.
Paint and grim in grooves of slate flooring.
    Stainless steel and furniture.
    Thank you in advance!

    Katie, you are sooo handy.
I am in distress- trying to refresh old stereo cabinet - want to preserve the beautiful herringbone veneer - but it’s paintwashing blotchy and stain’s blotchy 😢
I don’t want to paint it, but will be sending it 3rd time today 😢 will try to send, condition and seal with clear coat

Enjoyed seeing your process for making the base. You’re selling yourself short by saying you’re not a carpenter!
