      Regarding the Lend Lease Act: While the Soviets did not have to repay most of the 'lease', the story with the British was very different. The lease deal with the U.S.A. required the Brits to repay the entire amount using Gold Bullion, not ordinary currency. This reduced the amount of gold the British government had in its vaults & inevitably negatively affected the value of the British Pound & their economic rating. FYI, the British finally completed its payments to the U.S.A. in the mid-1990s, which shows just how substantial their debt to the U.S.A. was. Apparently, many of the serious economic challenges suffered by the Brits during the post-war period, especially in the 1970s & 1980s were, in-part, triggered by Great Britain's need to make payments to the U.S.A. (..BTW & FWIW, some people have even suggested that the U.S.A.'s policy was, to some degree, motivated by a desire to ensure that Great Britain would no longer have the financial resources to remain a world power capable of competing with the U.S.A.'s newfound economic & military dominance in the post-war period & beyond..)

      Hi just a little correction at 14:25 the 2% on military spending USED to be a guide line. they changed that recently to be a minimum requirement. Stoltenberg is telling NATO countries to ignore the requirement to keep weapons in stock for certain capabilities, its Not so much about the "adhere to 2% spending" situation. as there is a dire need/emergency situation so to speak. it has nothing to do with the 2% spending in itself. The Netherlands for instance is keeping a patriot battery at the port of Rotterdam as its the main transport hub for the EU. they are now open to sending some off the missiles or even the battery to Ukraine. This would diminish defence capability in the Netherlands which can be dangerous as Russia consistently flies bombing planes near the North Sea. Its a choice our government now has to make and stoltenberg is pretty much telling Mark Rutte (next to him) Ukraine is a higher priority.

    Splitting the bill into four pieces (when it was already passed in the Senate) is a sure way to delay aid to Ukraine for many months, even trying to get it off the table.

    Johnson already had more than half a year to simply schedule a vote, but he didn't. By splitting the bill into 4 parts now, he has more opportunities to delay the one for Ukraine.
    We can only hope that Biden refuses to sign any of the other 3 before he signs the one designated to Ukraine.

    So the problem is amendments require agreement by both the House and Senate. Let's say the bill is sent to the Senate. If the Senate adds it's amendments it has to go back to the house. The process could go on for a long time if disagreeable amendments are added. These amendments could also eventually make the legislation so bad it fails to pass.

  • @DarkestAlice
    @DarkestAlice Před měsícem +1

    Thank you, Georgijs, I will only believe it when it passes, which currently is rather unlikely. And we should not confuse loan with lend-lease. The former is to be paid back (like the UK did until 2006) while lend-lease is returning the stuff that was not obliterated after the war (that's why until today, hidden WWII airplanes or tanks are discovered). To be fair, the draft bill would allow the President to forgive loans (if I read it correctly).

    In the US the House of Representatives (Lower house) has a bill, the Senate (upper house) have a bill. Each, independent of the other submit amendments to the respective bills. If the bills with amendments pass, they House and Senate need to sit down, compromise and agree on one bill to send both to the House and Senate. If this bill is passed it then goes to the President to sign.

      Yes, that seems to be the path they're on... If so, there are several more steps to come. Conference committees, extra votes, etc. These steps can each take a day, or weeks, depending on how prepared the leadership are to make it happen!

      @jeffreyexposito3803 Před měsícem

      @@davidkottman3440Not really. The same amendment process failed in the original Senate Bill. It's only logical that any amendments will fail again since the original Senate Bill and the House Bill are almost identical.

      @davidkottman3440 Před měsícem

      @@jeffreyexposito3803 Yeah, that's possible, but eventually everyone gets tired of the same issue, & a majority forms to get this one out of the way so they can fight the next issue. I don't know if it exists; but things can move quickly if a leadership consensus develops, and a vote count falls in place. This stalling on the aid package is making more people look bad, rather than good, so maybe it's time to punt this one & move on.

    Reporting from Ukraine gives the best brake down how battles are taking place in the the Russia Ukraine war. He does not try to cover the whole front but concentrates of perticilar battles on each video. For me this gives me a much better understanding what's happening in the war than any other channel. This without showing battle footage.

    Exactly! When people need to understand that when all of this aid is not just a sack of money that is given to Zelensky tomorrow do what he wants with it. ABSOLUTELY NOT! The majority of these are contracts for Ukraine to *ORDER* equipment and hardware from US manufacturers. But even at the fastest cases those orders will take *MONTHS* to complete maybe even over a year. So this Bill is not a instant payment for Ukraine it is a *LONG-TERM* assurance that they will have reserves to draw on and producing working on their future!

    The final stumbling block after all the back and forth, would be if the Ukraine package is voted on after the Israel package. The Israel financial deal would be passed and there would be a loss of leverage for the Ukraine one. If the Ukraine one is put to the vote first and doesn't go through, then the Democrats could decline supporting the Israel deal. It is absolutely the final twist the Republicans could pull. The first round of votes on the four packages must have Ukraine's decision before Israel's...
