Sarah, can you make a video listing your favorite horror movie of each year you've been alive?
this is such a good idea!
genius!!! i would love to see this
She actually did a while ago on her tik tok
@@ledwarf937 was it long form? i feel like a review per movie in the video would be better
@@ledwarf937hii
My dad passed away last august. I just started watching horror again about a month ago. There is absolutely no way I could have done what your doing afterwards. I basically avoided anything that might upset me for a full 6months and left my job as a hospice nurse to work in a clinic.
Check in with yourself often and be kind to YOU!
I lost my mom last august too and I agree. I feel like I’m only just now starting to have the energy to do anything outside of obligations. I definitely cried watching this movie I wasn’t prepared for the subject matter. I’ve been avoiding any sad content especially anything dealing with grief. I’m so sorry about your dad.
So sorry to hear about your dad, I can see how this movie would hit hard at times.
Personally, I enjoyed it and I love the idea of a Stephen King adaptation tier list!
Sending love and blessings to you and yours xx
I actually loved this movie so so much. I went into it expecting it to be meh, but I was genuinely scared for a lot of it. I normally hate jump scares, but I actually felt like the ones in this movie were really effective + done properly.
Was it anything super new and groundbreaking? not at all, but I had so much fun seeing this in a theatre!
I loved Host, and absolutely hated Dashcam, so I was really stoked this one was so fun!
I also had a row of annoying teenagers in my theatre, but luckily the rest of us yelled at them :-)
I really liked it too. I also had problems with teenagers and got them kicked out over it
100% agree! exactly what you said, me too.
Yes! It was actually really scary, the creature was creative, and the characters were shockingly likeable! I don’t usually like this format or horror movie, the closest thing I enjoyed to it might’ve been Smile, but I’m glad it was good!
YOU WENT IN EXPECTING MEH AND WERE IMPRESSED? hAHAHAH YOU LOVE MEDIOCRITY GOOD FOR YOU.
I was very pleasantly surprised by this movie. I liked it a lot and I LOVE Sophie Thatcher in everything so far. hoping to see her more in horror. I agree with what you said about having a light feel. It was a really good date night/popcorn flick. I also saw it with a rowdy crowd which definitely added to the experience.
Thanks for the video. Sorry to hear about your recent loss. Hope you're ok.
I love the Boogeyman short story (excellent twist at the end) and I agree his work is best in short servings.
I’m so sorry about your loss Sarah. Stay strong
Have you watched Yelloyjackets?? The main actress from this movie is on the show and its such a beautiful, poignant portrayal of female rage, I think you would love it!
theres also many horror elements! im not super well versed in all the tropes but its much gorier than the average show, supernatural elements, a 'haunted' cabin, cults, psychological horror, animals.
She's amazing in yellow jackets!
Yes!!!!
omg you are the first film critic that seem to like this film and your review is what matters to me
appreciate you!
I thought it rocked! It actually was tense and suspenseful.
im so sorry for your loss, sarah
I will never understand teenagers who act that way. I mean, I myself have been a teenager and have gone out to scary movies with friends and have never thought of disrupting people's movie experience. Ugh that just grinds my gears
I'm so sorry for your loss Sarah. I lost both my parents within a few months before the pandemic and I found myself diving back into horror movies for the first time in years, oddly enough. It helped me with the dark feelings, I think...
Also, I gotta say, it took me 40+ years before I could sleep with the closet door open because of the short story. 😂
I am so sorry to hear about your dad, my condolences. Also your perseverance is inspiring, and as a fan of your work, I want to say thank you for all you do. You bring a lot of joy to us. Prayers and lots of love your way.
Hey Sarah I am very sorry about your loss. I hope you and your family are doing well. Great review! You made me want to watch this movie 🎬 even though I know what I might be in for.
I liked the movie, but I do agree that it's a very mainstream teen horror film.
However, Sophie Thatcher did a fantastic job in the film. She gave the role her absolute all.
(Spoilers) My one gripe with this movie was the main girl’s friend group. They were in it so much just to end the story thinking she’s completely crazy, not getting anything back for their horrible ways to their “best friend” that just lost her mother months prior. That blonde one especially…I know it was probably meant to be a dramatic stereotype of the mean girl in these movies but I just couldn’t get over her sheer awfulness. Like how she spills gross stuff all over her dead mothers dress and then the next day they’re all confused on why she could possibly be hostile towards them. I kind of wish they just kept them out or just kept the main friend to deepen that relationship more.
You know what? I actually liked that aspect. At the beginning i was like, no way someone could be like that, but i talk with friends and we start remembering and teenagers really are mean.
But i get why you don't like it.
Both the friend group and the father managed to be in the movie without being in the movie
yeah I normally don't care and its whatever in movies but this had me insanely angry and talking about it more than other great parts of the movie lol
Yeah the "friends" were really annoying from start to finish I was like if they're not dying then what's the point? 😂 I'm done with bullies in movies unless they serve an actual purpose or get what they deserve.
I was definitely hoping that blonde girl got taken out by the boogeyman
I am so sorry about your Dad. Lost my Dad in April of 2004 and it still wrecks me every year on the anniversary. 💔😢
There have been quite a few screen adaptations since the movie Cell. Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep, Under The Dome, Mr. Mercedes and The Outsider. Gerald's Game was fantastic and directed by the great Mike Flanagan, who also did Doctor Sleep. He is also the director/writer of The Haunting Of Hill House, Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and many other things.
I loved Mr. Mercedes!! Such an amazing show!
@@justafractionoftime1984 I agree! I loved it too!! 🤗
Yes! And 11.22.63, Lisey’s Story, The Outsider, Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, 1922, and In the Tall Grass (I think others, but not sure of everything). Plus, there are so many projects in pre-production or production that I’m excited to see - The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Billy Summers, Joyland, Fairy Tale, and The Long Walk! Another consideration is that it can take years for a movie to get the green light, especially if the director or the production team insist on the author being involved in some capacity, so if you want SK involved, or need his approval, it’s best to get those movies made sooner rather than waiting too long, IYKWIM.
I really liked Gerald’s Game
Agreed, Gerald's Game was so so good!
I have to say, that green eyeshadow is SO GOOD.
sarah i am so sorry about your dad :( i lost my dad last year and it's one of the hardest things i've ever had to deal with. sending love to you and your family ❤️
I read it many years ago and still remember the description of the creature coming up the stairs and the sound of it's nails on the banister . Spooked me a lot that bit.
Thanks for the great review Sarah...SO sorry about your Dad. 😢
It would be cool to see a ranking of your fav SK short stories! "The Ledge" is my favorite I've read from him so far.
it really reminded me of a mix between the babadook, lights out, and insidious chapter 3 only bc of the father daughter dynamic it really reminded me of Quinn and her dad in chapter 3. also the dead mom spirit coming in to help
I always love and support you and your videos, Sarah. I actually really enjoyed this. It’s a lot better than some of the recent King adaptations we got, despite being a story we’ve seen before. Maybe that’s why I was so surprised XD
I felt like it was a cross combination of Smile and Light's Out. I loved the nod to Host!
Sorry to be that guy, but isn't the room in the Shining room 237, not 217?
Edit, looked it up, 237 is the room with the decayed old woman in the bath, 217 is the room the family stays in where Jack cuts through the door, my b
Doctor Sleep and Castle Rock are some of his more "recent / modern" works to be adapted!
I'm so excited for the SK tier list. I haven't watched every single movie adapted from his work, but some are hilarious.
i loved your eye shadow
Sorry about your Father passing.
Rest In Peace.
Thank you fpr this review. - I’m so sorry for your loss of your father. I lost my mother in May and had to put down my retired k9 Friday so I think I’m going to steer away from this for a while🖤
It’s weird that it’s a pg13 in the US where as in the UK it got a 15 age rating
in romania its 12 :))
I'm still waiting on a full-length movie of "The Long Walk".
There was news that it was going to be made a few years ago but I never saw anything else about it.
I'd love a Stephen King adaptation ranking list!
A24 should jump on that one.
I'm pining for a proper The Running Man. It was Hunger Games and Battle Royale before they ever existed, plus, no stupid children hogging up the screen.
@@pablodelsegundo9502 The Running Man is ripe for a remake. Yes!
👍
I read The Long Walk in 1985, when the Richard Bachman pseudonym was still a well kept secret
I loved this movie so much, one of my fave horror watches in a theater so far this year. I thought it was fun. I love Sophie from Yellowjackets and I loved the grief as someone who is going through a parent loss. Made me teary eyed at the end. 😭
I’d love to see you make videos where you pitch how you’d want to see a movie based on your favorite books/short stories would go! I think that would be a lot of fun.
Sending a big hug ❤ thank you for sharing. Always a pleasure to see your videos 🤍
Just from the top of my head - relatively recent King works adapted: TV series for Under The Dome, The Outsider, Mr Mercedes. Films for Big Driver, Mr Harrigans Phone, Dr Sleep, 1922, In The Tall Grass.
lmao my theater experience for this was so annoying too, the guy next to me kept breathy grunting and pulling his phone out and other people kept opening the door (which was directly opposite the screen in this theater) letting light in during most of the scarier dimly lit parts hahaha
This movie was pretty good, 7.5/10 in my opinion. It was so emotional, very sad with what the main family is going through. I really feel bad for the older daughter. The acting is really good. And the movie had awesome editing. The camera movement in some of the scenes where it was upside down first then the camera moved, was epic!
Absolutely agree. And that one jumpscare with the door knock... I will admit, i crawled up my chair. 7.5/10 for me too
Sounds like I should wait until it hits Tubi or Roku Channel.
WHAT I also had a group of four teens that were at my showing who would NOT SHUT UP. They were sitting right behind me! Within the first 15 minutes (after I gave many glares their way), I got up and moved to where I couldn’t hear them😅 So sorry you also had this experience!
I like your green eyeshadow 💚 do you have a fall vibes watch list for this coming autumn?
I get it also. My dad passed away Aug 11th last year. I am looking forward to seeing this movie. This is up my alley for sure. I love horror. I am definitely not expecting like crazy scary like you talked about here. So sorry for you loss. It sucks for sure and they say it gets easier with time but it is different for everyone for sure. Thank you for always being honest in your reviews for sure cuz not many do a break down of horror movies for sure.
super excited for the stephen king ranking video! are you including miniseries like it (1990) and the shining (1997)?
hope you and your family are well! Sending so much love and light always. Love your channel :))
The deep dive with our obsession of the Shining would be amazing
So sorry about your dad, Sarah ❤️
Sarah I'm so sorry for your loss. Hope you and your family are doing well. Love you
Omg Sarah, so sorry to hear about your father. Sending love.
Sorry to hear about your dad. Sending my condolences to you and your family.
I loved the names of the 2 sisters ... Sydney and Sawyer. So cool.
Hey Sarah!
Great review, I'm yet to see this one...
Could you please review Bones and all?
Lots of love!
I was looking forward to your opinion on this movie!
Saw it last night and it was a decent time in the theater. However some odd editing choices in the film….there’s a scene where the older daughter has friends over and she opened the door and the music is blaring and you think a montage is about to take place and it abruptly cuts awkwardly and I laughed out loud and I don’t think I was suppose to 😂
Good review and cool video Sarah!👉😃👈
mr harrigan's phone was a Netflix adaptation of a short story from 2020, but most modern king adaptations (the outsider, mr. Mercedes) have been made into series
I totally understand people wanting to back off the Stephen King adaptations and agree that there are so many other stories that could be used. However i cant help but love almost anything that is made from Stephen King's works.
Not youtube recommending the shining just below ur video lmao. Thank you for doing this review, i been wanting to watch a horror movie at the cinema by myself and i was debating wether i should watch this one or the ring 4
Great video.. new sub to your channel today.. just about to checkout Dashcam that you mentioned briefly in this video lol
eyeshadow should blend a little higher, to account for the hooded eyes but love the green omg
As a mother with a child the same age as Sawyer in the movie I was not a fan it's hard for me to watch movies with kids in them
I’m very sorry for your loss.
The movie disappointed me. Maybe I’m spoiled because 2022 was such a great year for horror. I loved Host and Dashcam but this more traditional effort by Savage just didn’t do it for me.
i LOVE Sophie T (Sadie) in “Yellowjackets” excited to see what she does next, again there was teens in the row infront of me that wouldn’t stop talking/laughing but that was that, but overall just and easy horror watch totally agree
I have that cover on my Night Shift copy! Now I need to reread the story! I concur - short King is my preferred King. Will see this movie.
2:00 I guess Doctor Sleep could be considered recent adaptation of Stephen King’s recent work 🤷♂️
Dr. Sleep is another adaptation of a more recent King novel.
ah yes true! that was a great one
Also same I had some teens In my theater who did not shut up and some random kids came in screaming and they ran out then came back talking a bunch. I don’t normally tell ppl to be quiet but it was so annoying to where a bunch of ppl and myself told them to be quiet. I literally forgot this movie was PG-13 so I was like oh yeah of course they can come see this movie.
sarah my condolences. hoping you're doing well these days and i enjoyed this review a lot so thank you 🩵
i laughed because i also had some teenagers in my movie viewing who were too loud too lol
Damn, i'm early lol. Been waiting for your thoughts on this one
Haven’t seen the boogeyman 2023 yet. But plan to soon
I remember reading the short story in the 80’s and it creeped my out. I have to re read it. I agree there are so many other writers that should have their work adapted before another King remake. Although I do have to say, I’ve been waiting for a movie based on “From a Buick 8” for a while. I think that’s one of his under rated books.
14:00 OMG YES! If I see that friggen carpet pattern from the Overlook Hotel one more time I’m gonna scream. It’s so overly cliche now. It’s in SO many video games is insane. It’s just sickening. We get it! Use something else.
i lost my 5yr old son this April, so thats a bad month for me too, so sorry about your dad xxx
I've read night shift but for some reason can't remember this short story. It has been about 22 years, but still!
The Boogyman 2005 is also very nostalgic for me!
This movie did a really good job of showing grief. I haven’t lost a parent, but when they show those details of grieve of losing their mother, I felt it. I did tear up. Especially when I noticed about the mother’s dress in the dryer and it’s was really bright. To me that showed safety and love from the mother and that her energy is around them.
So sorry for your loss, Sarah.
I really enjoyed this one for some reason.. Although I have not finished the ending yet. 😂
*Warning - rant incoming* Those 4 teens in the theater... this is why I haven't been to an actual theater in awhile. I CANNOT stand loud talking, laughing, mess-making, phones out, annoying shenanigans when I go to a theater. I am quiet and focused on the movie, I eat my RedVines or popcorn only when the movie is loud so no one hears me. I paid good money to be there and enjoy the movie, not to have some jackass ruin the experience for me. I know people are going to talk and mess around and so on before the lights go down BUT sit down and shut up once it gets dark, put away the phones and let others enjoy the experience. I love watching the trailers as well so anyone still being loud at that point lets me know generally what kind of experience I'll be having the rest of the time. Literally, all I want is for people to go sit down and shut up. People can discuss the movie afterwards when it's over, don't annoy the rest of us while it's playing. With the pandemic, it has gotten so much worse... like people have forgotten what movie theater etiquette is, I guess. I'll be seeing this at home where I know I can watch it without jerks being annoying. That makes me sad because I love watching things on the big screen. Like I wanted to go watch the new Little Mermaid in a theater to support it but I'm not going to give anyone a chance to ruin it for me. My daughter was shown by my example how to behave in public places like a movie theater and to be considerate of others, a lot of parents don't seem to care from what I've personally experienced and let their kids go full hooligan mode as well as being annoying themselves. Whatever happened to being considerate? *rant over*
Gerald's Game.
You and I had the same movie experience lol I live in Georgia and there were 10 teens on Friday night in front of our theatre talking during important scenes and laughing super loud that a cop had to come in🤣
I can’t wait to see this ….once it’s on free streaming lol 🕯️
I want more Stephen King adaptions. I want to see The Talisman, Black House, The Dark Tower (done properly)
I'm still waiting for an adaptation of The Long Walk.
I'm not sure TDR can be done properly unless animation is involved, which I wouldn't mind (like A Scanner Darkly style).
@Pablo del Segundo I love animation and would wholeheartedly bask in a Dark Tower animated series, but I have faith in Flanagan to do it justice.
12:32 actually we saw that a lot out in AZ at least. I say “hey baby bro”, “hey best friend”, “that’s my best friend”, “girl I’m your bestie”, “hey bestie” 😂😂 it’s at least normal for gen z lol
As a (big) fan of the shining, I prefer movies using 217 over 13, 333, and 666
Sorry to hear about the passing of your dad
I related to certain aspects as well to the point of almost shedding a few tears. It was touching, funny, and scary in a very balanced way.
Misery is actually one of my top favorite novels ever by King. But I absolutely loved Misery! Kathy Bates played Annie Wilkes extremely well. If they remake it, i would love for them to bring back Kathy for something during filming.
Sarah I love your channel
the best King movies are Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile and Stand By me.....Not the Horror films
i haven't seen the fillm but i loved 11/22/63 i also have billy summers it and fairytale!
The fact that 2010-2015 was 10-15 years ago scares me. When I think 10-15 years ago I think 1999-2004 time…
I like to read horror more than I like to watch it. Can you do more horror novel recommendations??
My sister and I got to watch it theaters. :) we enjoyed it! It was entertaining!
I think the latest King novel to be adapted to film was Doctor Sleep, which was great. But I agree there are many other authors with good original stories that are being ignored.
I do have a disclaimer, some people do explain their relationship like u said im ur best friend I'll do anything for you, yes people actually say irl its because some people just want reassurance or something like that
Hi, I am new to the channel. I was wondering if you have seen the movie ? It’s a Japanese horror movie made by the same producers of Ringu. I haven’t seen it anywhere on your channel. (I also asked the same question on your last video, but you might have not seen it.)
I just saw this tonight and now I might have to sleep with the lights on!
