Winston - Tie Rod tools at Harbor Freight are about 20 bucks, and I'm pretty sure they're lifetime warranty. Just a thought since it'll save time in the future in gas and minutes.
Benzo for Serpenzo! And home slice.. Great pick
I think Winston is referring to "Auto Reilly's" to be impartial between Auto Zone and O' Reillys. Hey, he coulda referred to the store as "O' Zones"
You forgot about the silent Kragen somewhere in the middle there.
i like O zones😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You forgot Advance Auto.
"Why your people killing everybody?" 😂
wow that was interesting
Was he refering to how vlacks in SA are murdering everyone since mandela took over?
Damn the first thing you say when you meet a South African
“Why your people killin’ everybody?”
He’s a personable dude...
I wait 21 minutes to undesetand your comment.
Still don't get why he said that
@@carrerasrivera He must be referring to the widespread attacks on immigrants in SA. Many were from Nigeria.
@@jessicatriplev9802 Yeah but the one doing the attcks are the south africans natives not the Afrikaners lol
@Screaming Mimi's
People have a hard time understanding that the Dutch created cape town as a trade post, it wasn't bulldozed over like how the Spanish did with Mexico City. Most of the Africans that lived there were bush tribes like the Zulu were grandfathered in. All others were migrants seeking job opportunities. Swahili and all the Northern Bantu languages were never in Southern Africa. Never. If it were the case with the whites taking over, they'd be speaking a hybrid of Bantu/English/Dutch. We don't get that. We get a Bantu/Arabic hybrid with English as a second language. Not only that but we can pin point the migrations by era even though most of the African populaces didn't keep a census.
@@Supergecko8 So what? They must have learned violence from the white dudes. White dudes often teach POC how to hate each other.
I am as far from a car guy as possible, but for some reason I just find this really interesting to watch.
It has also helped me learn quite a bit for looking into my car issues.
This is how it all starts, brother... First you're watching car something videos, then next thing you know you're doing all of this stuff like it's nothing.
I hope I can learn something cos I always wanted to be a car mechanic 👨🔧
I felt the same way aty57. Back before I got my 1983 Toyota Celica I had very little interest even in driving let alone working on cars. These old Toyota sports/muscle cars really have something about them that makes them not only a joy to drive but also somewhat enjoyable to work on.
Engines would be a lot less complicated without emissions standards and general imposed scarcity in society.
Hydrogen/water engines and such, that would be a dream. A dragster would be cleaner than a Prius. (Although the greens would find some other thing to call bad and restrict then. Probably water vapor because climate.)
Lots of people can fix cars, but only a few also have the skill to make an interesting story of it. Great job.
I’m not a car person but I’m really enjoying this series. Thank you.
i'm diggin' this series
Ah the days before OBD-II, engine codes and the precious diagnostics we're spoiled by today. I believe these MR2's had some wires you could short w/ the key on that would cause the check engine light to flash a certain number of times to indicate a "code" of what was wrong. Fantastic job Winston in figuring out all this stuff! Very interesting and informative episode, thanks guys!
In UK, every car over 3 years old (and under 40) has to have a yearly roadworthy test which is very thorough, emissions, brakes, lights, tyres, suspension, body corrosion, seat belts... etc etc!
After 40 years they class it as an enthusiasts/classic car, so they trust you know what you're doing with it. The cops can still stop/charge you if it's not roadworthy though.
One of my motorbikes crosses the 40 year line next year, but I'm still going to get it tested, I like a second opinion that my wheels aren't going to fall off.
Same in Virginia, although I suspect in the UK there's a bit more pressure on the inspectors to fail cars that aren't in perfect condition.
this isnt the uk!!!!!!
@@irts10: And your point is...?
He was making a comparative statement about what the vehicle inspection process is like in the UK versus in California, which is a perfectly valid statement to make.
Considering my bike MOTs are no longer actually done- instead we just chat for half an hour to fill the time slot out. I have three historic tested vehicles now. I only do the MOTs because I have to get that piece of paper.
A comeback to "Why your people killin’ everybody?" could be "Why your people scammin' everybody?"
Hes definitely done this before ;) 13:53
It's super entertaining, knowing the way Winston talks, to hear his explanations and complaints about "nonsense" and "piece of crap" parts and cars 🤣 really enjoying these videos 👍
I definitely like the holding the camera vlog style over the high budget tv show style plus you get to see these guy with their natural personalities. It’s easier and quicker to edit vlog style videos too. 👍 for Auto Reilly’s.
I had an 86 MR2 as my first car. I loved that car. It was silver with black trim and interior.
I had close to 250K on it when the transmission fell out and I gave up on it.
I am stunned that you figured the pollution controls out. Here, emission problems you are in the stew and they start pulling vacuum lines and putting screws in the ends - the air filter solution is pretty clever.
This channel is great! I've been waiting for something like this and I didn't even know it until now!
Vivi thought she was coming to the land of golden roads , milk & honey instead she's trapped in a junk yard...hah
😂
Don't always agree with your views guys, but wholeheartedly support this project, and always enjoy hearing your projects and information. Your production work is great! This the sort of show you'd see on network TV. Thanks
Absolutely love these video's, becoming o e of my favourite series on CZcams a d excited for the future!
This was the best technical episode yet. I think you are hitting your stride.
Hyped for the next episode
"Auto Reilly's"? I love it...
I thought I was hearing things.
O'Reilly's
@@tony_25or6to4 I'm pretty sure it's a mix of Autozone and O'Reilly's but what do I know...
@@tiborklein5349 very well could be intentional. Not wanting to promote a single parts store, but O'Reilly's in obvious. Probably should be Auto Reilly Boys.
@@tiborklein5349 Definitely intentional. SZA ain't stupid.
great vid, and great set of skills... really enjoy this series !!
I don't have a lift either and am doing a full STI swap into an outback and hate having to be on my back .
Great watching you guys have fun working on worthless wips, I've got fond memories of an old MR2 from my teenage years.
Thang for sharing and as always keep building👍
Make yourself some ramps. Plemty of videos on yt showing you how to
@@rronaldreagan unfortunately in my situation ramps won't help as the car is totalled and has no wheels or suspension, great idea for a future project though!👍👍
Nice job guys, btw I always do stuff to my own engine maintenance but would never suck on one of its lines. I like the technical part, very Wheeler Dealer. In Ireland we have a yearly car test that checks, tyres, suspension, brakes, lights, emissions, seat belts and noise.
Great stuff guys. Thanks!
Love this series of videos. Keep up the great work.
Cheers from Australia.
Awesome video guys. Everything you guys do is gold . 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Lol! That thumbnail! I thought it was another Scotty Kilmer video. That story about how to get that old engine pass emissions testing was awesome.
Hi guys just want to thank you for your alive interview today it was fantastic and full of great information. It's hard not to be scared living here in Southern California. My son and husband are both asthmatic so I'm a little bit on edge on any type of flu bug that comes around. So these older vehicles I have learned from Auto Club and my mechanic about a retirement program only California has. You get the paperwork from your mechanic if I remember correctly maybe it was out of Club about retiring your vehicle. That means your car has to be in drivable condition, tags have to be current, but it won't be able to pass smog and it will cost too much to make it pass. Instead of getting the regular $200 for a donation to some Goodwill organization you actually fill out the paperwork take your vehicle to a designated location and they give you $1,000 check while you deliver your car,yo them!!! Boy did that thousand dollars come in handy with me getting a new vehicle I did this in 2018. I'm so happy to have a brand new car for the very first time in my life at the age of 56. I thought you guys might not know about this program offered to Californians. Again thank you for all your hard work all my best to you love Shelley and Hugo
Shelley Jimenez • Thanks, I will look into it. This Honda Civic hybrid is killing me. The check battery light is on. It's probably the hybrid battery 'cause the regular battery is new. It will cost way more than i can afford to pay. It runs great, but I can't drive without the sticker. I was going to donate it for what I can get. 😵
Winston, you do really good voice over work. You shot this footage weeks ago, then (presumably?) did the voice over to explain the process to the audience at a much later date. I think a lot of people would struggle to make that kind of voice over work interesting. A lot of people might drone on aimlessly or just lack emotion and enthusiasm. You keep things succinct and fun. Good editing, good voice over, super enjoyable.
I really starting to enjoy these series. Very cool watching explanation about every nook and cranny of a car.
You guys should buy and use a digital torque wrench, very important for long term repairs. They have a decent one at Harbor Freight. Love the MR2 video, I wish I could afford to buy it from you. My favorite car of all time is the Porsche 944, I could talk for hours about them as I've owned a few and put 150,000 miles on them. If you see one and buy it, I'm an instant Patreon/donate to the channel. I also owned a first Gen RX7, awesome vehicle with a Rotary, only got 10,000 miles before I sold it for 5 times what I paid.
Love this channel.
I see huge potential for Worthless Whips!
Most people I know block off and delete the EGR valve because they think it's just garbage because of the dumb California emissions, but it does help with fuel efficiency and keeping the engine cool in addition to the emissions. What I found wrong with my EGR valve for my '83 Celica was one of the nipple things that the tube goes onto was clogged with carbon so about an hour of scraping that crud away with a nail (being careful not to puncture the valve inside) and it was back to working as it should.
I am glad you guys are in USA now, and now doing car repair videos, I welcome you guys to Detroit and work in my garage if you wanted to come to the motor city for a visit!
Awesome video. Cleaning the engine is such a good practice.
Great Winston. I have a soarer v8. I can understand you you must move very happy to show your skills in the Car Culture. Fun to work your magic 👌
Working on cars is so much cheaper in the USA than here in Australia!
Agreed!
Never thought about that, could be that many parts are made in USA??
Can't believe there is a service that lends tools for free? Maybe a membership is required?
@@gt5228z No, almost no parts are made in the US. They are made in China, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico.
@@_Junkers No, you can go to any Auto Zone and borrow tools for free, if they have them.
This big hose who connects to the airbox is supposed to make the
exhaust gas recirculation mixture cleaner by adding 'fresh'
(02) air
into
the exhaust recirculation air flow. It improves the post combustion.
At least what i remember from this old cars.
GREAT VIDEO!!! IT'S MONEY SAVED!!
GENEROUS JOB 😎
S Classes have been my dream cars since I was 4
You couldn't have picked a worse decade of manufacture or state for a car to pass an emissions check in. Congratulations, you two. Don't kill anybody.
Keep grinding and refine the style--- because I already like it, it can only get better.
You got that engine looking really good after cleaning, great job!
This channel is really good guys well done.
Thanks for the educational video! I got an mr2 and got some things kinda loose in the engine bay at the moment, so this helped a lot! its an 89 model and they further changed the layout which blows, but was thinking frick it, and fixing up the egr system since I can't get rid of it anyway.
Woot! Worth the effort for sure!
I would like to see any and all work done to a worthless whip. I'm getting into fixing and modifying cars, so the information helps a lot! :)
OMG I LOVE THIS CHANNEL!!!!!
I learn so much while watching these videos.
Good video! The ending is Awesome!
Nice video Vincent, weating next part ☺️ All best from Europe!
My car failed the safety inspection (in TX) a month ago because of 1 inch tear at the bottom of my windshield wiper blade. I asked the guy if I could change it myself later (to save a few bucks). He said “Then I cannot let you pass now and you have to come back again.” (by law, he was right). And pay another inspection fee. I just sucked it up and let him change the blades for me. I will do my own quick inspection, light bulbs etc., beforehand next time.
Excellent ! I enjoy watching the video 👍
"Why you people killing everyone." Classic! Lol
Holy crap, what an awkward position to be in! 😬😂
Haha, a couple years ago I discovered your guys' channels online and now I see local North Co scenes and the smog victory dance. People don't understand how important that is for a car here.
Great video!
This kinda makes me want to get a toyota as a first car, Love the way they look and they seem hella fun to drive.
Excited for the new car thats coming up
Good stuff gentlemen. I can't watch it all now but I downloaded it on my phone w/ Premium.
Yikes! California SMOG test ain't no joke! congrats. tip: get the engine nice and hot right before taking it in for a test.
I think it's very interesting, it's not boring at all!
Incredibly talented mechanic!!!!
I became your WW Patron last week. I find your voice very relaxing Winston, lol.
We have SMOG and Roadworthiness tests. Basically everything you can imagine. Welcome to Europe.
That air filter is called an air Induction kit. It actually gives you a few hp hence why your cars giving the same power as when it left the factory probably, also it helps with acceleration which is an improvement
Will we ever see Winston truly shine as a character on his own show and repair a Land Rover, Range Rover, Aston Martin, or Jaguar? I know Winston isn't even British, and that the purpose of this channel is to repurpose Worthless Whips, but I can't think of a South African car brand, and Winston is surely capable of the Marco Polo persona required for such a video
I really love your content, every channel.
In my state they figured out it was more expensive to have cars go through emission testing because most cars always passed. The few that didn't wasn't worth the states time. It cost millions to have the system to run so later on the state shut emission testing stations down.
13:38. NSFW? Suck on it really hard!
That was actually a new trick to me. Personally I recommend a MityVac but I do love being cheap!
I was half-expecting that to be censored, it being Japanese and all...
"Me suck Japanese real cheap."
Glad you are keeping at it on this car before moving on.
Lots of hard work on this car!
I love the new channel!
Fun project. Stay strong.
Well done you guys!
ADV Podcast squad signing in :-D
Go to the junkyard to replace that missing airbox
K&N filter in standard airbox can make sense, because the air usually flows in from the side and hits the fins. You can also remove the 'snorkel'. It's to suck cold air from the front, but usually the air closer to the engine is not bad either, and the snorkel also sometimes does pulse charge stuff to improve low-end torque. But personally I hate that behavior and without a snorkel many engines respond much quicker to throttle.
There's also some tweak where you simply plug a hose shut and get better performance and you just have to remember to revert it before next emissions test.
Love the Scotty Kilmer thumbnail shout out!
Hey! @3:28 I'm glad you took my advice from that first Q&A awhile ago about O'Reilly's great lend-a-tool program. Pro tip tho, the receipt says you have to return the tool within 48hrs, but that's just a BS sales tactic so people see it when they grab the receipt to go return it after they're done using it (after 48hrs) and think they screwed up so they just keep the tool at the retail price and chalk it up to a loss/lesson learned. However, if you speak with an employee they'll let you know that you can actually return the tool after a much longer period as long as it's in good shape and all the original pieces are there.
I had to rent a brake line flaring tool kit and asked the guy during checkout how long I had til I had to return it and his exact words were "Just bring it back when you're done with the job". Well that job took me 2 weeks and I went to return it and saw that 48hr thing on the receipt. I was pissed, and went back anyways to give the guy my 2cents, lo and behold though the guy was right and they take the tool back no problem or questions asked no matter how long you lease the tool for.
Can't wait for the next car :)
I don't know anything about cars or fixing them winston, but I'm enjoying the process of being educated. Maybe not for this car a radiator expansion explanation is needed, but perhaps you can fit it in to a video on the next car
Good job, nice skill :D in Romania after the comunist era, we had a saying related to Dacia 1300 cars... "You are a bad mechanic, if you can't fix it with a wire. " PS: Today I learned something about cars, another skill that probably I will never use, but great thing to know! :D
you are an awesome trouble-shooter!!
90's era egr and emissions systems can be a nightmare with the spaghetti of tubes and clogged passages... U did a job most shops would charge an arm and a leg for. BACK ON THE ROAD BOYS.
Oh shit, you guys are down in Cali? Brilliant!! My son's ford ranger has nearly that many miles and passed without him repairing anything somehow.
Classic car great job
just a tip look into getting yourself some PB Blaster, it’s good for rusty bolts/nuts and works well if you spray the rusty stuff a good while before working on the car sometimes more than just once👍🏻
Come down to florida to do this lol, no smog, emissions, or inspections to worry about.
It's crazy, I saw SerpentZA since the beginning and to think you now basically live in my backyard in SoCal doing new videos, keep it up! ... and F those EGR valves! ha!
I'm going to California this weekend will be there for a few months.
But these men a beer!
One beer... then make them share.
Haha I would love to! These guys seem like a thrill to talk to. Absolute intellects.
This series is cool that South African guy is skilled instead of hunting alligators he fixing whips
I always use Gunk engine degreaser at a manual car wash and let it sit for a bit. Use the pressure washer to clean out the engine and engine compartment. Spray a tire shine or something close to it. comes out looking new. Never had an issue....
Knowing the real Winston and CMilk. Cheers mates, I like to see you guys doing something else than "catching virus" XD.
First of all why do you guys keep buying junk 🤣. Vivians reaction is CLASSIC! Great episode guys. Hear in Indiana we don't have smog tests to pass however we do have the winter test each year. if your car isn't running well you are guaranteed to find out on the coldest day of you year 😬.
where they rarely freezing
This will be interesting! If it was a diesel, the mileage would be ok👍
No fake numbers? Wauw the CCP could really learn from you guys. Great video as always!
Wow you bought a first gen mr2! I recommend that in one of your earlier vids :)
When you didn't pass the lamp test, CMilk shoulda sang " baby when the lights go out... I'll show you what it's all about". That's a FIVE reference...C-Milk's former boy band.
I've punched myself breaking a bolt before lol good times
