Making Lots of levels in unreal engine for my indie game - this is punch a bunch devlog 23 - ZĂĄbava
For the Viking level I think having some sort of animal hide on the floor would add a really nice touch. Also maybe adding Viking shields could be cool
Maybe some viking helmets for the crowd too
maybe empty beer jars as if it was a pub fight
Yeah! And I'd use a cobblestone texture for the ground to change from very brownish color of the level
Exactly what I thought , I think a bear or a wolf would be perfect!
It would also be cool if he adds a Berserker maybe as a second phase for the Viking
The infinite level (without limitations) could be a fun "face yourself" where you fight with a copy of your character and improve upon yourself as the last boss. Also, for the tropical level, it could be a Maui boss of some kind like Moana.
Is it a reference from Swords and Sandals II?
Or maybe, keep it simple, the boss should be a surfer since the game is arcady.
maybe your clone could wear a black robe and then reveal its them in the intro cutscene
it could be like the hawaiian road hog skin too that would be dope
florida man for the beach level
For the beach level, you could make a surfer boss that wears swim trunks and sunglasses.
sunscreen projectile, and lubing himself up to make himself extra slippery (take less damage for a time period)!
Classic red Hawaiian shirt too
And rides a f*ckin surfboard towards you
I thought of the same thing :)
I think you can give the audience some props
Like similar to what the bosses wear
Since youâre fighting in the bosses âbaseâ
For example some might wear the Viking helmets or something
About the monk level: there's no monk temple without waterfalls, this level feels kinda empty.
About the viking level: make it dark, using that material for fog, but using a dark color, make the ilumination looks like it's really being iluminated with only fireblight, would be cool to put some viking horns on the crowd too
the infinity level makes me think of some kind of boss that teleports around when you can't see it and comes out of the shadows to strike, and then the player has to react in time in order to hit them or block the attack
Some sort of Ninja boss would work perfect with this idea
Hehe I was also thinking some teleport boss :) Must be fate!
Could be the final boss the main championship and give him like tons of belts or somethingđ
He should probably make it a loading screen
I love it
Give the blobs different types of hats like a cowboy hat, party hat and a the little drinking hat thing I also think they should have little signs says stuff like GO! Or YOU CAN DO IT! And a thumbs up sign thing. : )
Edit: I hope you use this.
Great idea!
@@nitsuj6555 yeah thats an aazing idea
I hope he doesnât use it :)
@@realmalphaofficial5966 y
And then thereâs another side of the arena that says, YOU SUCK (insert username) and GO (INSERT USERNAME) and stuff like that.
For the beach levels I feel like having the ropes be replaced with volleyball nets would be cool
You've unironically perfected the art of "working within limitations" and "doing more with less". The levels look nice and I love the moving bobbles as well as the instructor. Some ideas: in WWE it's common for fans to bring some signs with funny slogans or images on them. Maybe the bobbles can do that too? If you struggle with clothing next time in Blender, there's a sculpt brush that's called "inflate". Very useful to "push" clothing away from the base mesh in any given location. This can prevent intersections between the clothing and the model underneath.
That's a fun idea! I will give that a shot. And thanks for the blender tip! I'll see if that does the trick
@pontypants a guy in a crab costume for the beach level
@@Pontypants for the endless level, you can make a guy made fully black, no other color, and he will have abilityâs such as teleporting behind the player after a short animation and another ability could be to pull the player to him
@@Pontypants Idea: Randomized signs that can have a lot more combinations and colors than normal signs
@@DisorientedDeveloper crab boxing real!?
use sculpt mode in blender to fix the issues with holes. that's what I always do, just a very soft brush slightly moving the vertices forward until there isn't a hole
You could also move the vertices in edit mode with proportional editing on.
The best way tho would be to weight paint everything to fit most movements. But your solution is a quick one and definitely worth using when doing something fast :3 Unless the resting pose model has holes to begin with I guess xD
@@Morraak sculpt mode is usually easier for that
I like proportional editing to solve this problem as well. If it helps, the technique is used extensively in this vid: czcams.com/video/6tpc4oNzSXc/video.html
@@jblock9675 good to know, I'm still very much an amateur in blender lol.
The backgrounds truly brought the game alive. Maybe in practice mode, the grid-like background could remain.
make the boss for the beach one a lifeguard, and for the infinite one just make it a man in a cloak so you donât know who he is or what he looks like. it makes the level more mysterious.
WOOO YEAH BABY THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT
WOOOOOO
WOOOOOOOOOOOO
YEAH BABY
WOOOOOO
YEAH BABY
Keep this going stop resetting it lol
You should make finishers for the bosses so it can be satisfiying when you finally beat a hard boss
I think I'm a little bit late, but:
-First, I like how the game is getting better and better!
-I love how do you use and show us Milanote ! It is kinda cool when we see people actualy using the stuff their promote. I wanna use this software right now!
-The beach level, I think would be cool if it is related to Thailand in a way. In your references there is a photo of some Muay Thay fighters, so I think it fits in the game. Or, if you add some Marimbas in the background, this will totally move us to the Caribbean !
Peace!
For the beach level, you could make the boss a surfer dude, with long sandy kinda hair and surf shorts, even adding a surfboard rack in the background could be an âeasyâ touch to make it feel more situational and make sense. He could have an extra move, like the monk levitates and Viking dashes, he could summon a surfboard temporarily and surf his way over to you in a straight line, and if you get hit you get flipped upside down for a second or two, maybe with stars over you head or something, and another really cool feature could be waves. Hear me out on this: every 20-30 seconds or so (maybe a random amount between that) a large wave sweeps across the arena, pushing you back, unless you block, making you essentially stand still. This could be an added challenge to the level, having a break from full on combat the entire time, almost like a change up in the fight, one person winning but then getting crashed by a wave while the other person takes the lead, something like this could be kinda hard to make but very unique for your game. One last thing to add in the background would be a simple animated volleyball game. Just two blobs jumping to hit a ball over a net is probably similiarily difficult to animating the excited blobs in the audience, and since you aced the audience so well, I think this wouldnât be too hard. For anyone who actually read all of this, Thankyou for making me typing all of this at 4 am worth it!
I have an idea for a bonus level.
It's called "These Hands" you have to avoid or block the two big hands and you if you win you get a cookie or something
Reminds me of a very popular nintendo franchise, hummmmmmmmmmmmmm
For the Viking level you could add those Viking shields as well as maybe hanging a couple lanterns, Viking helmets and stuff to the poles. Great video btw.
Also a surfer boxer could be cool for the beach level
Maybe in the beach level the boss there would be a guy in a shark suit. And he goes underground, and a shark fin can be visible and he tries to catch the player. Also make the beach level more sandy, so the boss going underground kinda makes sense. Add an ocean at the side of the beach map. Thats all
I love the idea of a shark suit... and also the idea that he can "swim" under the ring! Very clever...
This is SOOOO COOOOL seeing how much you have improved from the beginning is really inspiring. Your ideas are super creative, the levels, character design and their attacks, the glasses animation, also the attention to details (the sand particles for example) is outstanding. Pls don't give up ponty, you inspire us
The infinity map could be used to an "endless mode", where appears all the enemy's that you defeated, one at the time (maybe a mode to unlock when you finish the campaign)
I think a good way to do the training room would to add a way to switch opponents and have multiple things to hit not just a dummy. You could also have an opening in the ring so you can leave
Your references are crazy good and I like the amount of content you added. The game looks great with these map additions!!
You've come so far and this video is a masterpiece in game design and productivity.
The video is focused entirely on the creative process and it's super focused and inspiring. Every scene feels important and I didn't skip a second of it.
I love how you showcase that even a mediocre idea when executed well can have an awesome result and that quick solutions can be unbeatable sometimes.
Bringing your visions to life within seconds is awesome and I can't wait to play the final game, it looks incredible!
Wow the game advanced so much đ
seeing the coach, I had like s cool idea. idk how cool it is, but maybe after you beat all the levels or something like that, you could challenge the Veteran.
Like as a secret boss, obviously he would have to pretty tough. you know, because he's a veteran đ
That would be dope
I mean yeah but our old guy is barely walking with a stick so... I'm not sure he could fight
@@Max-qp2bf, we can reverse expectations. That's why it could be fun and myb funny, looking at the way he might set it up, if he decides to.
Basically ye, reverse them expectations xd
@@Max-qp2bf yoda can barely walk with stickbut his fighting skills are amazing
Additonally, maybe you can add an easter egg, if you hit the coach during the tutorial he warns you, and after multiple warnings you get sent directly into the secret boss fight.
For the Viking hub the wooden planks do look good, maybe more of a octagonal design inside of it, could look cool and of course having the fire be more inside a fire place, but I guess you already did that after the video.
@MagentaStorm Studio I only thought like a decoration in the ground
It would be awesome if you included a little more of the blueprint side in the dev logs, like how you solve different problems and what exactly cause them in the first place.
Nonetheless another amazing dev log!
Love the simplicity of the crowd. Super elegant solution!
Yayy!!! I love these vids!
Maybe you can add an astronaut boss and use and rearrange the parts of the monk level, bc it already looked like outer space.
Yeah maybe a moon or something.
@@koimipoimi5483 and there could be low gravity or smth
@@anzion1037 sounds cool!
And some rockets as decoration maybe
Great idea!
You actually make it look so simple... awesome work as usual!
Bruv this is just looking amazing. Your style, decisions, workarounds (like the mist) are just a big inspiration. Keep on pushing you are making insane progress.
Absolutely love the dev logs. Your making great progress!
Production quality is amazing as usual, you haven't lost touch at all
The infinite level looks very interesting, wouild be even cooler if some random lghts ina distance would move around that are very faint.
might be a nice place to fight against yourself in an oniric place.
He could make the boss copy your movement making them a professional. He could name the boss "Copypasta" and design him like Taskmaster (Marvel), since Taskmaster can copy people's fighting style.
Cool video!
I love how youâre able to come up with such ingenious workaround to make the level the way you want to, without spending an insane amount of time on it
Nice work!! I saw your original video and also wondered if you gave up, glad ya were working on it still this is awesome!
YESS FINALLY, IVE BEEN WAITING MY WHOLE LIFE FOR THIS
For the beach level, you could make a boss that resembles a wind streamer. The wind streamer would flow with the boxing physics and look thematically pleasing in a slightly breezy tropical setting.
Keep going man! This is so cool to see, you're doing great!
For the mystery level, maybe an all-blacked-out boss in a suit (kinda like Agent Smith from the Matrix) would be cool, and another level idea would be a pool level where the player could kinda swim around and fight. Overall though, I think this is going to be a great game! Can't wait to play it!
The beach level could have some sort of crab boss, which could have a move similar to the bear hug except it grabs you for just a moment and deals a lot of damage. And for the infinity level, I can only come up with either some sort of agent with a gun or illuminati.
On the beach level you could:
1. Make the hole ground have sand textures
2. Add the sea nearby
3. Add ambient noises
crab man
The game is looking great.
Can't wait to play!!!
Wow you really took the crowd to another level during this video. Great work! The game is so polished
12:17 i love this!! its so original and fits well with the faceless characters.
This is Amazing! Had lots of fun watching it.
I would suggest changing the monk levels ring as well, something more calm and a little more simple other than red.
Also you could use metal in Viking level.
Other than these it seems pretty cool! Good job.
Canât wait for future devlogs.
The new levels look awesome!!
Awesome update!
Lookin' good man!
For the beach level, I think a Hawaiian or pacific islander guy (think of Maui from Moana) would be pretty cool!
15:40 The boss in the infinity level could look similar to the Fighting Wire Frames from Super Smash Bros.
add an glitch-effect when the boss takes damage and dissolve-effect when killed.
(OnKill: Freeze-Animation + delayed dissolve-effect after 2 seconds)
I worried about the lack of texture for my game and you reminded mega scan to me . You're a life saver
For the Viking level I could see dry yellow hay on the boxing ring canvas as a nice touch
I literally missed you so much Ponty! I kept checking if you were streaming on Twitch! So great to see you back! Hope you and miss Viv are doing great and ziggy too! â€ïž
Sorry for the Twitch absence, I'm trying to get as much gamedev done as possible while juggling some other stuff. I'll get back to streaming soon!
It'll be so cool if you made the game like Mike Tyson's Punch-Out
Awesome update man. just recently found your channel. Keep up the work!
I've had great success making camera flashes using a couple of stacked particle emitters with a single burst particle that fades and scales over time. The advantage of this method is you can emit the particles in a cylindrical mesh around your boxing ring and it's quite lightweight.
For the monk level add a few plants and trees, also make the ring look like a Tibetan temple or something
Edit: TURN THE SPECTATORS INTO LAMAS!
Oooh and give them hats tooo!
OK listen, awesome work so far!!!
I think you must work a little bit more on the arenas like you could add some viking swords or shields or helmets on the walls or on the rings corners. On the sumo one you should put some Chinese-Japanese stuff in there like lanterns or something. The monk one really feels empty so I think you should add some water steams running from the rocks if you can or some other vegetation other than rocks. Oh and you could add some little monk houses in the cliffs with spectators. And finally you should definetly add variety on the rings based on the level. Love to see what comes next!!!!
Agreed
@@crazyz9773 agreed with your agreedment bud
I really like this gameâs overall vibe with the visuals and comedic aspects but the other hand the actual gameplay is this intense combat which makes the game unique. A cool level to do would be a space one where your on mars or something and thereâs like a rover or a ship in the background with a space skybox. Keep up the great work!
Definitely looks SO much better with animated crowd.. some background noise also would be excellent. You could add audio snips to have them cheering for you of your opponent based on the hp left ( or any other float ) as a trigger for events
This actually looks amazing you deserve 3 million subs + I also think on the sumo level you should make the boxing arena on the floor and the outer area more like a pyramid or temple area as it looks ancient and awesome Then The training level should maybe just have fences for the rim and you are not raised up for the boxing ring Finally the beach level could be a tropical character with a Haywain look with a palm skirt and coconuts for a covering with a flower in their hair, sorry for the long comment but I think this could really help some empty spaces in the game but it is GREAT
Also on the viking level maybe add food tables in the background shields or banners to have a more viking effect
I think for the beach level it could be interesting to fight a Samoan who fights with hula dancing like moves
You are a master at creating a lot with very little! The eye glasses thing is genius
Hey man! what a lovely project, wish you best of luck!
Amazing video!
Your first!!!
Okay my man, the game you're making looks like a lot of fun! I'll give you some ideas I'd like to see in the game.
1 - I think it would be cool if you put some viking hats on the bloobs, like one or two different hats and some hatless bloobs.
2 - At the beach level, I think it would be cool for the boss to be a surfer, and obviously, sand on the ground, and you put the sea in the background in a way that the player can see and some bloobs playing with a ball in the water.
3- At some level the theme may be Egyptian, where the chief is the pharaoh.
4 - And, I know you talked about this, but please make an online multiplayer mode.
5- When there is an online multiplayer mode I think it would not be necessary to make exclusive maps for multiplayer, that is, use the maps of the levels.
Okay, now some questions:
Will the game be free to play?
I really wanted to play this game.
So I really like what you're doing, please keep at your own pace because I know it's hard :)
i love these types of map building and making and world building videos!
I really like how you did with coaches emotions
Maybe for the infinite level it should be the seasoned veteran in his glory days. And in the beach level, you should go against a beach volleyball player; and one of their attacks is where they throw a ball in the air and spike it at you. Just my idea, anyways do as you wish with this information. BTW nice videos I love seeing your progression it gives me more motivation to code!
Been a while since I last saw you..
Bro this is basically my dream game that I was planning on making. Thank god I found this, looks dope as hell!
For the beach level just give your guy some beach texture on his pants and maybe a cooler/beachball gloves as a weapon and give him some sandals. :) Maybe some kind of crab or squid on his head. And his special attack could be squirting sun screen on the ground where you can slip or something. Or he throws a beach ball at you, also pretty funny.
Just some simple ideas! good luck :D
I think for an infinite level, a TRON-style design is better. neon everywhere, everything is bright and so on. I think you should try it and see what it looks like
Amazing progress , cant wait to play it đ€đŒđŻ
Words cannot describe how satisfying it was to see you change the ropes to ropes in the viking level
13:05 the way i usually do fire is to just have a plane with a texture of a video of fire on it. works good enough for most situaitons.
For the beach you should definitely do a surfer. He can reveal a board to do a ranged smack with, jump onto his board for a clone if the viking charge but bigger because a wave flies up to give him the charge, maybe the camera flashes get a lot brighter in this level to hide his movements and make it harder to predict him
giving the ropes some wobble on impact would be a nice touch
Great work as always! Canât wait for this game!
I love the look of the game and wish any of my projects can come out like this
Not sure how I missed this video! Looking great đ€©
i think the fire looks really good and fits the art style
Dude! That looks beautiful!
The audience beans are very charming, the Fresnel shader really did the trick!
The planks are the right call for the viking level. Maybe the audience seats could be replaced with long wooden benches.
Great video as always! And for the Viking level you could cover the ring with hay, also the beach level could have like a captain boss, similar to Pop-eye maybe :)
Great job, you solved the problem in a very easy and creative way lol
These new levels are looking great! One idea I had for the beach level is making a l̶i̶f̶e̶g̶u̶a̶r̶d̶ deathguard boss. Keep it up, Ponty!
For the Viking level maybe try adding some like wood creaking sounds. Like wood settling or maybe even the sound of a ship at the dock hitting the dock.
hi! i spent the entire day watching your vlog series and I quite enjoy the progress you have made so far. it makes me somewhat hopeful that one day I can achieve my own gamedev dreams. the game looks steller, and if you arent proud of yourself, you absolutely should be.
as far as suggestions, I think with the beach level the player could be fighting a life guard or someone dressed like a shark- maybe even a mermaid?. the parts where the ropes are supposed to be could be replaced with volleyball nets (the red and blue feel.. out of place somewhat).
for the biking level there could just be a massive animal pelt on the wooden floor.
i know that you are nearing the end of your journey, so you might not want to mess with new menu options, but one more thing I was thinking that could be added was a boss gallery if you haven't already. i enjoy when games allow you to look at the character models of past opponents or NPCs and read little bios about them and look at their outfits- might be a good place to hide some easter eggs too.
with that said, thank you for taking the time to read this comment. keep up the good work and stay epik :)
Whoa, what a devlog! Amazing progress! For the beach stage I'd love to see either a "Maui" boss full of tattoos or a "Mitch Buccanon" late 80ÂŽs / early 90ÂŽs Baywatch look. The rest of the ideas in the video are great and give tons of new feel to the game, truly impressive to see what it was and what is coming out now! I'd definitely would keep working in this same line: the game needed a lot more "life" and it's getting there steadily! Can't wait to see what you're coming up with!
beautiful update of the game. Btw for the last viking boss you could add the viking hat to some fans and place some axes around
And you can add purchasable clothing emotes and special moves this is inspiring me so much
for the Monk's stage you could add some moss and small shrubs, maybe even a spritual looking tree to make it more interesting and for the beach one you could take out a side of the audience and replace it with the ocean
i just played the hole demo and.... I LOVED IT!!!!
Dude your doing so good your game is coming out awesome I canât wait to play it! Good job đđ»
Your game dev series really cool man. It's giving inspiring and motivational for make games. I hope we can be play your game soon.
For the viking one, I like the planks for the flooring. Also I think having axes stuck on the wood beams would be a good idea.
I like the training level you built so much!
amazing how far you got, I'm following this product since day one đ
A boss idea for the palm trees beach level is a smug surfer who thinks that they are the best. Maybe even have no rope and water surrounding the arena which is potentially on an island
