    Friend and fellow Bond fan Jeroen - aka DutchBondFan - and I came up with a new collaboration idea - Dealing Out A Double-O Debate.
    This episode we debate about the controversial decision that was made in 2015's Spectre of incorporating the villainous organization into Daniel Craig's Bond films and the reintroduction of iconic Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld played by Christoph Waltz. Was it a wise decision to have given him a family history with Bond and making him something of a 'step- brother' of sorts to 007?

    The thing that makes Blofeld his arch enemy is that he makes it personal when he kills Tracy. He can just be a random guy who Bond encounters. Their relationship develops from their rivalry.

    If I had been a writer on the James Bond team, I would have had Quantum be a rival organization that was keeping SPECTRE down. That would be why governments were so willing to do buisness with Quantum.
    But, because Bond destroyed that organization, SPECTRE is now flourishing and they are not willing to go along with the status quo like Quantum did. They want world domination.

      @@TheT3rr0rMask That was my idea for the origin of SPECTRE. They used to be part of the good guys.
      They were created by some government as a Special Executive of Counter-intellegence agents who's portfolio included Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion. Their job was to root out those things
      But they realized the power that had been placed at their fingertips and went rogue.

    Blofeld is not Bond's brother. He's a chameleon, a master of disguise. He's a figure in shadow who frequently changed his appearance to avoid surveillance and capture. Just before Spectre he took the appearance of Bond's brother to mock him and get in Bond's head that it was all personal. The reality was Blofeld was pissed that Bond had cost him so much with the events of the previous movies.
    This is all discovered after his capture and a a DNA test. And offered up as a throw-away line or two in No Time to Die.
    Just my guess.

    In the script for For Your Eyes Only, there was a reference where the villain says this is "the 10th anniversary" of their last encounter. It didn't make the movie but was in the Marvel Comics adaptation.

    I’m still of the opinion that Mr White should have been unveiled as Blofeld all along; it ties the series together because he HAS been there since the start and he was clearly more powerful and formidable than he let on. I love Christoph Waltz and I think his casting was good - but he was poorly used and I think even defenders of the film (I like the film more than most) agree this was a needless connection.

    Hollywood seems to have lost the ability to roll with the continuity much like a Jazz player is able to rolls with the notes to elevate a piece of music.
    The Star Trek films had no planned continuity. But they were able to keep the franchise going for a long while. They did this by mainly looking at what they had to work with and exploiting the entertainment value. The movie with the whales is a classic example.
    Someone has taught the new generation of filmmakers that continuity is constricting. That it gets in the way of having a moment that filmmakers see in their heads. Now, its all, "Do it because it FEELS good." And if conflicts with the story, betrays a character or just doesn't make sense, "Ah, who cares? Its ART!"

    It was all downhill after Casino Royale; a slight plateau with Skyfall's mother M issues, but there was no coming back from SPECTRE's Doctor Evil angle. This is why I consider Craig one of the lowest of the Bonds. You look at the lesser films of Connery, Moore, and Brosnan and they have more to offer than Craig's run, which is held down by its dreary and inane convolution.

    Could not agree more. Spectre and Blofeld should have been just left out. If they had to include it, Denby should have been Blofeld and Spectre should have been a rival to Quantum, with Mr White working with Bond and taking them down... but even this is so far fetched.

    • @qualityautismNoah
      @qualityautismNoah Před 4 lety

      They could have revealed that Mr. White's real name was Ernst Blofeld, and that after Bond had taken out Quantum, he created Spectre. That would make the conflict so much better since we know Mr. White since the beginning.

    Obviously I don't accept this twist so I'm gonna say something different regarding Spectre:
    1. Why did the third act take place in London instead of Spectre's HQ? They could've explored that villain base deeper (maybe something underground) instead of being there in the background. And how did that blow up so quickly?
    2. ...I'll probably get hate for this but they could've made Blofeld a woman. This rebooted series wanted to change things up so why not? Maybe not Ernst himself, maybe a relative of him who's the main villain. I don't know, I just want to see more female villains (not just villain sidekicks).

    In “Thunderball”, Blofeld was about 300 lbs, dark eyes, sporting a crew-cut and bushy eye brows.
    In “One Her Majesty’s Secret Service”, Blofeld changed his appearance. Weighing about 170 lbs, sporting longish silver-gray hair, green contact lenses, and, of course, no earlobes.
    In “You Only Live Twice”, Blofeld went under the name, Dr. Shatterhand, still thin but muscular, sporting a gray mustache, and fashioning a gold tooth.
    So, the iconic image of a bald head and petting a white Persian cat was an Eon Production generated image, and not the property of Kevin McClory.

    My expection is that Oberhouser his father/Bond step father is very bad. It made Bond family (even for short time) of a bad guy. I am curious or you both have idea about real background story of Daniel Craig era. That plot thing there say about NTTD is same thing as Greene plan in QOS. Control about people. To give example Octopus in Spectre in touch the weapon is reference to Mr White line in QOS about Vesper and that the moment you be part of Spectre you are married with them.

  • @smartcookie9159
    @smartcookie9159 Před 3 lety

    The whole Oberhouser is Blofeld was a direct steal from John Harrison to Khan used in J.J. Abrams' mystery box Star Trek Into Darkness. This subplot didn't work with Star Trek and didn't work with SPECTRE. Skyfall stole heavily from Dark Knight and SPECTRE stole from Star Trek. Of course this double bluff subplot had already been used with Eve as Moneypenny in the previous movie. The whole Blofeld stepbrother-gate was what soiled SPECTRE for most people.
