So, today I thought it'd be a good time to just step away from Awakening the Nightmare for a little bit, and look at the Flood, and their ultimate full scale return that was prophesied over 100'000 years ago by the Primordial - the Precursor's final test for the Mantle of Responsibility.

Sorry to say but I don't think that the flood will return from other galaxies because it is very rare when the books are actually related to the games, the closest being in Halo 2 when Cortana mentions in high charity that there is an AI fighting her which is mendican bias also from the perspective of a game it is literally impossible for 343 industries to introduce species and technologies from other galaxies. If the flood will return and I believe they will they may either come from the Ark itself or installation 05 which has been left untouched or from other infected parts of the Galaxy. I do agree upon every other theory of yours except this one will you believe that the flood will return from other galaxies and also I don't believe that there is the precursor's Grand Design existing post Halo firing. It may match with the books but not with the game.

There are actually some that went into stasis. That is the first possibility. The second possibility is that the dust that remained preserved and had time to regenerate, could form precursors instead of the flood if it didn't come into contact with other life.
There's always a chance, maybe not all of the dust corrupted, but I doubt we'll ever know for sure sadly

The Didact likely knows more about the Flood than anyone else in the galaxy at this point in time, it would be an interesting way for him to return to not necessarily side with humanity, but sort of "the enemy of my enemy" type of scenario. A good redemption arc to bring back both of the franchise's badass villains in a proper and suitable way, that makes perfect sense.

Anyone else believe the flood won't be stopped in Halo 6 setting up the next trilogy? Three games primarily fighting the flood and holding off the extinction of all life. This could be filled with side games, a marine horror game, another ODST game, lots of possibilities.

The problem I have with your idea of the floods return being a surprise slipspace jump of a massive fleet of flood is 2 things
1. You essential give the player what should be a surprise never before seen enemy but it's a enemy many know and are familiar with, unless the technology they use is what we've seen before it won't make fans happy.
2. The scary part of the flood is their rapid increase in intelligence with more comsumed by them, and so it's the galaxy's purpose to stop the flood before it gets too big otherwise it's near impossible to fight back, having them return with a fleet and new technology and forms would make them stronger than the halo 2/3 outbreak, which the galaxy was barely able to avoid

I always thought the idea was that knowing that it still existed made sure that we didn't forget how to deal with it. While total eradication would negate that need, it's also practically impossible. Same as the reason we save old diseases like polio and the plague and shit. There could still be a little bit somewhere, and if we forget how to deal with it and happen across it again, we could be fucked

I think an amazing story someday would be some degree of conflict between the Gravemind and a Precursor. Perhaps a properly regenerated Precursor will say that the Flood is not the way humanity is meant to be tested, and says they need to stand down. The Gravemind could refuse, believing it has ascended to a level beyond even the Precursors, and it will calmly advise the Precursor to step aside.

Dude, I love your theories about how the flood can return. Although 343 can't use these because just normal casual gamers who don't know the lore wouldn't understand what the hell's going on. They will probably go with a flood return plot that can fit within previous games and new ones.

Cortana is somehow disconnected from control of the Guardian systems, is brought before some kind of allied council for something not dissimilar to a trial - but before anything is decided the flood return and they're forced to release her if they're to have any chance at survival. Would be made better if she's actually remorseful, perhaps she kills most of blue team before being captured?

See i want the flood to return but i also have always thought that it would be more epic and seem more interesting to me if the final test was actually the Precursors themselves like the original versions. Now that would be an epic final battle between the humans and a super advance alien race.
I disagree, the uniqueness of Halo comes with it's advanced, but not so advanced that it's out of grasp -technology. There are plenty of games with super advanced tech that we can't wrap our minds around. I think the banished, covenant, or flood would make the ideal main enemy

The major difference between the two is that Flood are easier to kill than the Necromorphs. But the Necromorph infestation can be easily stopped unlike the Flood.

If it was a test for the mantle like you say, why was it that the flood were actually an accident? I read the books but I don't recall them mentioning the flood being used as a test.
I still believe they're coming back becuase the writers realized they made the guardian's sound so seriously powerful that they need something to kick them around and make them less of a threat to humanity.
There should be a stance in halo 5 called "Believe" where it's basically like the default stance but instead you're holding a plasma grenade in the right hand and there is a bright shimmer at the top left of the visor.

Halo 6, Chief manages to stop the Halo Installation that Cortana takes. It's all over, Chief is telling Cortana to stand down.
Cortana then unleashes the Flood on the galaxy and the game ends.
