    The only role a fencer cannot properly fullfull is the frontline and disabler in the endgame. This is because in endgame finishers hit so hard you need nullify or skills like phalanx in my experience, and valkys lack of access to consistent disable (only having finishers to do this). This is only for hard fights like heavenly generals or coda4, outside they can prob do the job. Fencers can do everything but they do not replace anything. The true army swiss knife. You can run 12 fencers, maybe 11 + a phalanx/dragon scale/nullify user.
    I dropped all my fencers at the end of coda2 though. In my 5 playthroughs of the different versions of luct/ov and now reborn this is the first time I didn't run ravness with valky. This is because while they can do everything, they are not the best at anything. frontliners? I prefer knights + dragons or the billion of special classes like white knight, mages? I prefer any of the actual backline summon2 users over valkys. support units? I prefer warlocks and clerics because of long range low RT because of movement casts, specially with warlocks/deneb having nullify strike and songstress being overall amazing. They are meant to be a hybrid but there is no an actual benefit of being a hybrid versus being a specialized unit.
    This is a direct contrast to lord, lord can be a tanky summon 2 mage with speedstar. This is what you call a true replacer, because of his combination of skills he can be everything even better than the specializations can, lord is a crazy class in this game.

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  Před rokem

      Fair, but at the same time due to weakness exploits in Reborn, that option versatility just hits harder here. Like you said, they don't really need to replace anything.

      @@CoffeePotato I can see that but with how I play I completely ignore the elemental/racial/equipment advantage in the game. This is because I never felt pressed to build or engage with it. Just laziness tbh lol. I did not build my army to take into account elemental coverage, I was having a lot of fun just nuking things regardless to the point I don't look at the element of the enemy at all before I choose to attack, its an irrelevant variable for me that I learned can actually be very influential from watching your videos, but during my game time it never came up. This is different from something like SMT where you NEED in very obligatory way to engage with its element system or you will get absolutely wrecked.
      But yea you can legit straight up change his weapon, his element with a charm and his skills/spells and he is tailored made for any specific fight without changing the class.

    Big fan of Valkyries/Fencers. My KoL days force me to only use lady units for this class, but that's not a big deal in this game. My only issue running Valks is thier defences. Obviously, this is mitigate-able, but the gear they want makes them feel much squishier than the other "dedicated" frontliners (Warrior, TKs, Knights etc). Big fan of bow/xbow on them, since they can sit at range and pick up stray cards, scaling very well with whatever stats they happen to stumble upon.

    My Lord Coffee… a question of your knowledge (aside from this great vid on Fencers !), if I may ? I discovered the Bow, “Ixquimilli’s Bow’, in my recent POTD diving, before finishing up this run and going on to Chaos route… I was shocked to find this Ice Bow ‘relic’ coming in as a ONE-handed bow, with an astounding 5-8 Range ! This is much more in line with 2-handers, iirc ? Also, mine dropped from a (roughly Level-20’s in POTD, iirc) monster, with starting stats of 15-Pierce, 15-Ice, and 99 Attack ! /// This seems freakishly strong for a 1-Hand bow, especially compared to the current alternatives I had been using in 1-hand. Is this some kind of stats glitch, for Reborn, or was ‘Ixquimilli’s Bow’ always blessed with huge 1-H Range, etc - even on the PSP Version ?

    • @rucession5760
      @rucession5760 Před rokem +2

      The Ixquimilli's Bow definitely looks like its stats have been adjusted to be a 1-Handed Bow (it was 2-Handed in the PSP version). Compared to its PSP incarnation, it has lost 14 ATK stat (99 vs 113), 1 DEX (5 vs 6), 2 INT (1 vs 3), and 3 RES (5 vs 8). In exchange, its WT has been lowered by 4 (9 vs 13), and its RT cost has been lowered by 9 (30 vs 39).

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  Před rokem +1

      Ruc explained the numbers, but I like to see the one handed version as the baseline version you can easily replace and use for a Counterattack build, while the 2H variant is the one you really want to be using on a dedicated Archer. The bonuses on the Relic versions can be upgraded a lot.

    @POOH_LY Před rokem +1

    I have some question about the instill elements skill. Does it increase your physical damage if your weapons are also the same element? Does it increase the damage against target that has adverse effect of that element? For example, if my rune fencer procs instill dark, then attack a target that has dark adverse, will I see the damage increase?

    • @POOH_LY
      @POOH_LY Před rokem

      Ok, I just tested this, and it seemed like there are no damage increase at all even against the target that has dark adverse effect. I am a bit confused, so the instill element only works against targets that are weak to that element? Or is its entire purpose is to give you resistance?

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  Před rokem +1

      It's kind of it's own thing on top. So it has different intensity based on stages from what I understand. On the low end, where it's resisted and off element, it's like 13%. When matching element, but neutral, it's around 25%. If effective, but off element, it's like 27%? At max it goes up to 31%. It just adds that to whatever your damage was as a second stack. So, provided resistances aren't making things funky, an archer were to fire for 100, but then used tremendous for 200, but then also added Double for 400, this would be raising that to 500 or so. Usually it's like 30-50 extra damage.

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  Před rokem +1

      I was half asleep and used the armor logic here, but the instills block the thing they are instilling. So fire should use Fire for a higher damage bonus, but can use Water to cover their elemental weakness. Armor, on the other hand, gives you an opposing affinity bonus, so fire armor helps Air units by countering Ice.

      @hlopez-mz5fs Před rokem +1

      I think Ravness should 100% be a White knight if you want max power, probably the best class in the game behind lord. I prefer using shamans over valkys because unless you have a lot of cards they will end up better casters and the sisters are always casters for me. Rune fencers are more generalists than dedicated casters.

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  Před rokem +1

      @@hlopez-mz5fs Max Power isn't really a thing, though. Something with an unreasonable 1000 strength could still hit a Phalanx for peanuts, while poison would have them half dead by next round. It's all situational. Shamans themselves aren't stronger in any way other than range over Valks. The class doesn't scale damage, each move or spell scales individually. So it's the same spell, same stats because it's the same unit, barring the like...7 int difference, so maybe 7-10 damage. But they cast it for free, and can still follow up with a finisher next round. Or just never stop to recharge. Or get bullied by birds. Or need half the team dedicated to protecting their squishy butts when they are the front line. I know at this point I'm down to only one token shaman after comparing the two side by side extensively. To each their own, I'm just throwing this out there.

    • @hlopez-mz5fs
      @hlopez-mz5fs Před rokem +1

      @@CoffeePotato When I leveled my rune fencers they end up on average around 60 to 80 int below my mages. This is taking into account class growth and gear. If the difference was only 7-10 int sure then rune fencers would be worth it as a mage but that was not true for me. I ended up using my rune fencers for finishers rather than summon because they did more damage that way, I still like rune fencers because having a situational status heal was extremely helpful and spear finishers are really strong but I dont like their summon usage, only sometimes. Also frontliners are just heavier units, their RT is much slower than backline casters, long term DPS differecne is very noticeable for me. I prefer using liches over shamans but I dont use rune fencers are mages.
      As for max power I guess I mean white knights feel extremely op. velocity shift is just so strong, valkys cant do that for sure.

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  Před rokem

      @@hlopez-mz5fs Fair, but 20 is 10-7.5% of 200-300 stats that units run by chapter 5-8, right? So if you could always land on a weakness, that's always going to be at least a 30%, not even getting into the defense or sustainability benefits, or other options. That my point here. It's not a direct damage comparison, it's comparable damage of the right type at the right time.
      The way I see it, it's like the PS2.
      On paper, it's got weaker numbers than any modern device, yet even a lot of modern laptops have a hard time raw powering PS2 emulation for something like Armored Core. Hell, many have weird jank with SNES games even.
      Raw power is good, but the right tools designed for the right job will get farther with less effort.
      Especially when those tools didn't take a dozen hours to unlock.
      White Knights are pretty darn solid, can't go wrong with them. Valks don't match them for direct hits, but they've got comparable options. That's while other rabbit hole, though, and I should get this laundry done.

      Although I find this class a good generalist and a average class, one thing it does well is being the best debuff removal with ease in the game, because it can stay behind your superior melee units and because their healing is worse then cleric, their damage is worse then specialists, your mp can be safely used with ease and boon and their lower damage makes support even more appealing.
      Besides, hawkmen can be fencers and that is another plus for the class.
