Mostly I cover Tactics Ogre plus the wider Ogre Battle series, Armored Core, Fell Seal, Xenonauts, and other random things I enjoy. I like weird strategy games, and finding uses for things others may throw aside.
If it's oddly specific and I know enough about it to ramble for hours, it'll be here.

XCOM Enemy Unknown Plus (Vita): The XCOM EU/EW Port That Somehow Outlasted The Others
XCOM mobile...is no longer supported. It's sold, but forgotten and can't run without side loading. XCOM PS3/XBOX exist, but does your PS3? XCOM PC is still there, but locked to the computer box. This game never made it to Switch or anything more modern, sadly. But the Vita....the Vita lives on.
Sorry for the sound going a little odd towards the end there, I think I leaned on my audio capture chord there.
For context on DLC....It has St John's, but no Progeny or Battleship, so it wasn't a performance thing. You do still have battleships and those maps, just not those events (The dam was a one off, and let's be blunt...it was way too long. It has the new outfits with exception to one variant of the ballistic armor. It unlocks more Second Wave options at the start, but still needs Impossible completed for the true Impossible run. Hero Units work, but like....you know, it's kinda lame to do it that way. Cool to see The Bureau getting referenced, though.

I love it when there's a unit that can basically adapt to anything. the Valk always delivers, even if it's always in a different way. I never finished explaining that Coup De Gras thing. So the Vartan has an 80 TP Windshot move that's nutty powerful, but typically has this ebb and flow vs their MP and TP to get there. Loved EU/EW as jenky was it was. but hard to go back to it after xcom 2. off topic, have you tried out Our Adventurer Guild? think it is steam only, taking a little break from my OV run, and having a blast with it. The game play loop is pretty good, the story is pretty meh but other then that seems pretty up your alley. Cheers!
Vita 3D graphics were always so ugly to me. I ended up using my Vita almost exclusively for PSP games.
Well yeah, it was clearly never made to be seen at such a low resolution. Personally I love the almost demake quality at play there. It's my kind of fugly 🤣
Coffeepotato, what're you talkin about??? I played this with an Xbox One controller just recently. I have never played XCOM EU/EW any other way. Had it fired up yesterday and the controls are fine? Should be similar to PS360.
Which version?
@@CoffeePotato Just the Steam version, with all the DLC and Enemy Within and stuff. Needs to be enabled in the settings iirc but still
The Steam version is rated "playable" on Steam Deck.
I mean..it technically is..just like most indie games with no controller support are.
Just curious do you have a tactics ogre reborn or unicorn overload play-through anywhere on your channel, love watching experts go through games they know very well
I have a few challenge runs and streams and such. I also have a Union Level 0 run and a full speed run videos when I get them done.
Classes like this is why I keep someone around with Ice magic, specifically for Frostbite which will force them to dump all their TP. Very, very clutch spell. A Lich with Ice Magic and Covenant can neuter a lot of bosses by just limiting them to their normal or ranged attacks. I'm not sure Covenant is supposed to be able to work on enemies in current build, the tooltip says it effects allies. But while it works like this, it's actually amazing. I sleep on this class way too much, even knowing how much a pain in the ass they are to fight against. Their AoE spells are very oppressive, and safe to use in groups of allies so they will use it constantly and cut through your ranks. I think Valks would also make for great Valk killers as well, if ran with Ice Magic for that Frostbite. You could also forgo spending a skill slot for Heron because Winter Siege straight up gives you waterwalk as well as battering ram.
Winter Siege is such a cool overall package. Valks always deliver, but especially so here.
Rune Valk.
As a "new-comer" (played the hell out of vanilla TO when I was younger) is it safe to jump right in and build however?
Yeah, can't learn if you don't experiment!
“I see you, dramatic-comment guy.” I CAN'T 😂😂😂😂😂😂
There's always that guy, we all know the guy 😆
Instead of putting them in the frontline, I personally prefer using white knights as the "second line" bruiser/supporter with glaives and spam "Time of Need." But I have never thought about the magic or one-hand mace builds, and will surely try them in the next playthrough. Good work and wish to see more videos about the new unique classes in OV!
More to come, this game is beautiful build porn.
I'm actually curious if there would be any new content in the game that wasn't part of the original or wotl personally
I'd expect we'll get some middle ground explaining what characters were up to without the S5-8 GoT warp feature WotL got. Delita is just kind of everywhere all at once. Oops the timeline is all Delita now, and we just live in his PSP world.
The issue with FFTA is that there is a cool game buried under lots of annoying shit that you just have to push through in order to enjoy it - Unlike Ramza who has equal stats, or Denam who can be manipulated at the beginning in every TO version, Marche is heavily geared towards physical attack and that's it, if you want to play mage go fuck yourself I suppose. So much for class choices - Want more of a specific race? You gotta hope rng is kind to you with the race and that the character is naturally built towards the class you want - Some of the laws are simply stupid. No basic attack in the early game? Really? I'll sure gonna enjoy my using my thief that I cannot use - You do need a guide for learning skills since some weapons teach you nothing - Nice hit rates bro - The judge in the map can outright get in your way, he could just stay in an isolate tile so that he doesn't have to move around. Why do I have to waste time watching him moving 20 tiles? The game is already as slow as it is I get that Matsuno was going for realism, but if realism becomes a hindrance I don't care about it. And I'll gladly play a bad game over a decent but annoying one
It wasn't a Matsuno game, just to throw that out there. He did FFT, Vagrant Story, and TO. The others were given to other folks. That said, I've never really been one to agree with that notion that minmaxing comes first. Playing around the weirdness leads to interesting outcomes. Maybe folks will try races of units they hate. The judge can get in your way, sure, but the entire legal system is there as an ever present wrench in the works to make you adapt to weird situations. Basic attacks are basic attacks, now banning poison, now we have an issue 😂. But no, the other guys also can't use basic attacks, so what you're left with is two teams on the back foot, and that's pretty cool in my eyes. It puts everyone in the challenge run mindset.
Just wanted to say thank you for doing all of these class videos for One Vision, I just recently started playing tactics ogre with the mod thanks to your channel and just unlocked the White Knight so great timing.
Glad to help, I'm always wanting an excuse to talk about it more!
Curious to see how everyone's favorite class *Rune Knight* is changed in one vision
True, I should do that tomorrow. Considering they're also the logical end point of "what if class was just kinda perfect?"
White knight >>>> common Knight
In some ways, but it's hard to beat the sheer survivability a normal Knight adds. Fortify/Regen is practically God Mode for some situations. Like it just might as well this "turn off Longbows" button 🏹
Thank you CP!!
Thank You for watching 🙂
I read that so wrong... Was worried for a second pew!
I'm trying this for the first time on my rg35xxsp. I really love it. I think one of the challenging things this game had to go against is the fact that since the gameboy color screen is so small, splitting the game screen in 2 reduces the sprite sizes so small that it's hard to tell what the items are. I think this would have been a perfect remake on something like the Nintendo DS to make use of its 2 wide screens.
It would have been, and thankfully there's enough space to still tell what's going on courtesy of the space in each room.
Yow @CoffeePotato I been trying to contact you to submit an idea for your channel, perhaps you can work on a video regarding why we do not get good tactical games anymore or "Why making tactical RPGs is hard" from the challenges of audience / history to the tecnical challenges of the setup, dunno i just woke up and thought of this and passing it to your channel!
I could, sounds like a fun little chatter.
@@CoffeePotato I mean it might be a bit challenging and you'd probably have to put some hours but I do not know anyone in the yt that has pulled something the like, you might get some serious views if the algorithm bless you
@@Paladrink Nah, SRPGs don't get much in the way of clout, but it's fun to discuss all the same.

Thanks for the video as always! I had a question about Double Impact vs Double Attack. At 32:15 You mention that Double Impact is faster (you say Double Attack but I think you're talking about Double Impact judging from the context). I just did a test and I believe this is untrue. For Double Impact, you still pay 2x the +RT of the weapon to swing twice, on top of the 40 MP cost and +18RT for activation. So if we have the same weapon in the video, Double Impact would be 25 + 25 + 18. Double Attack would just be 25 + 25. Maybe you can double check this on your end?
Will do, this game loves to toss stuff up, so I wouldn't doubt it.
The original PS1 version has a rougher translation, but better sound, smoother animations, responsive inputs, and fast loading times. The PSP remake (WotL) softened the translation, added cutscenes, a few bonus characters, and fights, but at the cost of sound, animations, inputs, and loading. It seems like the mobile versions tried a quick fix for some of their slow animations, but by manually speeding them up, they have also sped up the associated audio, making some of it sound too high pitched. A few other small notes: It's funny that you mention Game of Thrones, because both GoT and FFT are based off of the same thing: The War of the Roses. When you said that the WotL versions "oddly rebalanced" JP costs, they are the original Japanese PS1 version JP costs. They reduced job unlock requirements and JP costs for the North American PS1 release, to make it easier for the west. There is a fur shop glitch that only works on the JP PS1 version of the game (and therefore not WotL). The item duplication glitch works on both PS1 versions but not any WotL version. The PSP version slowdown fix is only for the North American version of the game. JP WotL has no slowdown fix (as far as I know!)
Hi ! Is the armor's physical resistance bug still in the game, or has it been patched since ?
It has, in some way or another, been there since PSP. You would have to go out of your way to even notice it, let alone use it for anything.
@@CoffeePotato What a swift reponse, thanks a lot. This is actually the second time you've helped me out, as I've posted on reddit not long ago ! Damn, I can't believe this is a feature. It's kind of counter-intuitive... Anyway, it's good to know that it's part of the game and I should simply play around it. Thanks again for your help and have a nice one :-)
I'm on a rotation and picked up the game, cause one, love Knight of Loids back on the gba, and since I did the smart thing and bring my oled switch, been putting hours into this game. Right now I'm in ch 4, got potd and pgy up, just need to march over to the northeast of the map now. I did notice my Switch did heat up, but not to overheating levels. So much nostalgia playing TO:R
OLED mostly fixed the issue, but those original ones loved to cook.
The Joycons on the switch are definitely a pain point for the Switch in general. I originally bought a Switch to that I could play Theatrhythm Final Bar Line on the go. They're really not great for any kind of action or really precise and timely inputs, and just aren't very ergonomic to use attached or detached. For that reason I bought a pro controller, and everything plays great with that. It's a pretty big expense for a controller, but a Switch is pretty cheap so it balances out. Later when Reborn came out I chose to buy it on Switch rather than PS5 because I knew I'd want to play it in handheld mode because I enjoyed playing LuCT and watching CZcams or whatever on my monitor. I've started to grow an interest in getting a Steam Deck, I don't know if I'll cave and get one just yet. It would give me an avenue to change my One Vision arc onto a handheld device, because I have no interest in trying to get that working on a Vita.
It's surprisingly simpler to get it working on a PSP or Vita than trying to find emulation settings that don't have some sort of weirdness 🤣. I hear you, though. Deck is amazing, and the only device to truly play the whole series and mods natively.
For Vagrant Story you are an agent for the government, not the church.
Checks out, it always confuses me 🤣
Ah yes FFTA2, or how to dual wield scepters and maul the whole map 😂
How to Ether Cannon infinite MP.🤣
@@CoffeePotato might be a good video. Most broken combo in strategy games by CoffeePotato. I will reserve the front seat. 👍
Great video! Advanced certainly does have an underrated story, but it was succeeding one of the best video game stories of all time and was therefore a little overshadowed. I personally didn't love Advanced, because it had a fundamental problem that killed it for me. And I'm not even talking about the atrocious judge system. All the classes were so similar. Every class had an aoe attack, a single square distanced damage attack, a way to heal themselves, buffing and debuffinf abilities. It made class choice pretty inconsequential. Also, Ritz just falls short in a blatantly sexist way from the writers. Mewt doesn't want the fantasy world to go away because the loss of his mother in the real world. Doned is sick and dying in the real world and healthy and powerful in the fake one. Ritz thinks dyeing her hair is too hard in the real world. What? What a stupidly sexist and asinine reason to fight against Marche when you have the emotionally compelling and understandable motivations of of the other two. Mewt wants his mother back, Doned doesn't want to die, Ritz thinks it's a little easier to be pretty. They really dropped the ball writing her, when they could obviously have done so much better.
I prefer to see Ritz's thing as a bit of a misleading one. She goes on about the hair, but her story in general seems to be more about her hiding severe self consciousness more than anything. Like with the constant attacks on people for fairly mundane things. She's insecure, and overcoming her insecurity is her arc, not just the hair. It's just an obvious stand-in that ties her to the world. It ties her to the friend group that she doesn't want to lose for fear of going back to being her old self and such.
1: I fight alongside you on this hill 2: while true, it hurts to hear someone confidently assert the odds are good the viewer hasn't heard of Vagrant Story. Such a great game. :(
To be fair.. it's like they didn't want it to sell

Yeah, this Boss Fight is awesome cause he can kill you so easliy and you have to change Everything you have done the whole Game through. 🙄🤬
Did you have a team of almost only melee fighters or something?
if you like FFTA I highly recommend checking an indie game that just came out called "Trash of the Titans". Its a roguelike tactics game where you play animals fighting off hordes of rats and its a very good tactics game and feels like it was inspired by FFTA the most. Its early access right now and a bit light on content, but it was worth the purchase IMO.
I'll see if I spot it, doesn't sound familiar off the top of my head.
The Law system in FFTA is hated by many folks but I really like it just like you. Can potentially bind non-boss enemies by applying new laws. Nothing is funnier than having a group of monsters who somehow understand laws and you just put a law that bans damage on moogles with a full moogle team 🤣 And the law is there to have the player always be ready to adapt and not just using the same old boring team composition for every fight
Harambe had.a shot, he just needed to use the Anti Laws. 🥲
thankful for you coffee potato. you're appreciated 🫡

You need the PSP version. I've asked if anyone can make a tool for converting Reborn into something OV-able, but nothing yet. Google would be your friend on that one, I showed the only legit way left in the video.
I wanted to ask did you play ff12 revenant wings ? If so what do you think of it ?
How can I play Vagrant?
It's on PSN, but only Vita and PS3. It badly needs a rerelease.
It looks so damn cool! The blonde guy is probably an early concept of Delita if i had to guess. The hairstyle is similar.
Vagrant Story is a game I always wanted to go back and do a full play through, something I never had managed to do. The game is great, thematically and artistically wonderful, very complicated mechanically; but just a very hard game for me to stick to and finish.
Yeah Montblanc can be killed, i remember playing that part where there are no judges and bro got offed. Man i should replay these games one day.
It's such a cool way to have a mechanic in there subtly.
What filters do you use? Image is really good.
This was just out of the box Emu Deck settings, I think I only pressed buttons that told it to look like darker GBA colors.
Square enix needs to bring back Ivalice Alliance... Ivalice its the best setting of all FF games...
Vagrant Story is one of my favorite game. It's one or the three or four game i even bothered to buy the ost to have the physical object. From gameplay to story and the directing, it's a masterpiece However, the game is kind of already perfect in my eyes, it only need 4K textures if it's ever remade. Not even 16:9 'cause i fear a Buffy Blu ray situation for cutscene and all. If you have no idea about what they did to Buffy The Vampire slayer when it hit blue ray, you should all go look at it. It's trully a nightmare bedstory. Hell, i think i'd prefer watch a 4k fully animated 3D movie or TV show using the exact same shot from the game at this point over a remake. Just because they'd probably ruin the perfect balance that game had. FFTA, i finished it but i think i spent too much time interacting with the system and didn't follow the story that closely. I can't really remember much about it and have no drive to replay that game. A2, i bought, booted up and maybe played for half an hour. It's one i really should try to play one day. And on another unraleted to today's videotopic i'm kind of half in awe atm. One of my brother went to a trip to japan last month, i finaly saw him today he just gave me the japanese version of the original secret of mana in perfect condition as a souvenir gift while casualy saying "and i got myself that" and bringing out the original super famicom version, also in perfect condition or Tactics Ogre and Dragon Quest 6. It's impossible to get your hands on that stuff here, yet in japan you can have them for almost nothing.
It just needs more elegant mechanics, I'm sure they can find a way to make crafting not....what would you even call that? It's not even obtuse, it just doesn't really make sense no matter how many times I've re-read it. That said, silver lining, when Legend of Mana got a remaster, they vastly improved a crafting system with very similar issues.
@@CoffeePotato Vagrant Story was that weird game where when i read about the system in faq it seems out of this world but when playing it, i had no trouble crafting whatever i wanted or needed. It was weird. And speaking of LoM remake, i wouldn't know. It's goddamn broken beyond repair on steamdeck and they clearly don't intend to fix it. Same for the Chrono Trigger music reseting after each battle immersion killing bug to :s
I remember playing a little bit of Vagrant Story on one of those old game store displays that let you try things out. I was too young to appreciate any of the political stuff but I was struck by something when I first came across those floating platforms. Floating platforms are video game staples, they're all over the place. But an NPC went completely nuts over how bizarre it was, and it took me a second to go like...actually yeah. If I saw something like that I'd freak out too. Lovely little moment there that made the game stand out for me.
I love that scene, and points to the one store that did something like that! Reminds me of the bizarre moment of only being able to find Silent Line at a Sam's club demo kiosk of all things...they didn't even stock it.
