Well... It is ANIME, if they wanted to go historical, the movie with Chadwick Boseman would've been shot if Chadwick didn't sadly pass away. I believe he was in pre production already for the film, EDIT: WAS looking forward to it. RIP

It actually is historically accurate because if you watch the show it explains his life years previously from a servant to a samurai until him and his master were invaded by enemies. If you read about yasuke you’ll realize nobody is exactly sure what happened to yasuke during this battle or if he was alive or not. Basically after that battle there is nothing to base yasuke off of. So it was historically accurate about his life in that sense.

So let me get this straight, they took the story of Yasuke ,who is a real-life, historical figure and turned into a generic fantasy/sci-fi story. Complete with superpowers, demons and friggin' mechas!
They could have make a historical drama, out of Yasuke's story, similar to the ''Shogun'' mini-series from the 80's with Richard Chamberlain, which is inspired on the real-life story of english navigator William Adams who ended up in service of the Shogun.
You know, with political intrigues & battles & some drama etc. Or maybe do something similar to ''Samurai Champloo''.
Nah, let's take this real-life, historical character and have him fight mechas in 16th century feudal Japan!!

I was kind of hoping for a more grounded series, but I guess I’ll still give it a try despite the weird anime power stuff. Personally would’ve rather seen them stick to sword fighting as opposed to lasers and stuff.

I wouldn't mind fantastical elements like demons, magic, and shit in a historical anime. What I am kind of bummed out about is we could've had something similar to Rurouni Kenshin.
i was taking a preview of this anime just looking at scenes to decide if i should watch it and after realizing it’s based off of real history, you can imagine my surprise as 10 seconds after finding that out, i see yasuke having a whole ass fight with a robot. shit’s wild.

It's barely ever addressed that he is black LOL the other characters in the show don't even care about his skin color, if anything they are more interested in his relationships, involvement and skill

Finished off the whole season. And still can't Fathom why alota people fuckin hate this amazing anime. Love how its Sci-fi Fantasy, something like "The Ice Pirates" movie. This anime is like Firefly. Everyone shits on it because it's "Popular and hip" then a month after it is canceled people are gonna be begging a new season.
Probably because most people thought that it was gonna be low fantasy or realistic with exaggerated fight scenes. People where interested because they thought that at thing saying it was about the life of the Black samurai would be about that instead of Mongol mechs, werepeople, and Shamans with stands.

Yasuke tried to be too many things at once. Sure, it has some nice scenes, but it fall flat overall :(
The dialogue exchange in this scene was really bad. I guess my hopes were too high for this anime because what we got was a mediocre story with great animation and a non specific genre.
