Yasuke the African slave who became a Samurai.
At the beginning of the 16th century, the Japanese began to have contact with people from Africa, since they were brought to that country as slaves of the Portuguese Jesuit missionaries.
Yasuke, a young slave from Mozambique, came to Japan as a servant of the group of Jesuits of the Italian Alessandro V Valignano Oda Nobunaga, a powerful daimyō from the Sengoku period and the early Azuchi-Momoyama period, met Yasuke in 1581. He was led by Father Organtin, head of the delegation of Jjesuites. Nobunaga requested that Yasuke be stripped down to the waist and rubbed to personally ascertain that his "charcoal black" skin tone was natural, as he believed the new was painted like this for fun. Nobunaga Fascinated with the imposing enslaved man who spoke some Japanese, he was about 1.88 m tall, there begins a great story of how an African slave became a Samurai. I do not understand why they have not made a Movie of this Wonderful Story since it is based on real events.

To answer your question…They didn’t make a movie on this because HOLLYWOOD likes to focus on Slave movies and civil rights movies. As if Africans don’t have any history outside of slavery.

This anime deserves a remake, it has way too much potentional.
Honestly, I wonder what the script writers were thinking, and the heads of production when they had their story conference, seriously a story like this should obviously be done as a biopic.
That's not rocket science, how did mappa miss this, they've had amazing run with animes especially during covid and post covid, they were the one studio who Aimed and succeeded in entertaining viewers at the time but, honestly this is a hit and miss for me.

Literally all of yasuke’s known history is in this anime. He was traveling with a Jesuit merchant, he fought the iga, and he was at Honnoji temple when oda died. Literally if there was an anime about his history it would just be a story of oda nobunaga’a unification campaign. I much prefer this
@@calicojack5623 highly disagree. I never said they removed it but I did say they *breezed over* so your point is still mute. While it’s an ok fantasy anime with great mapa animation, the story is lack luster and bogged down with the weight of the actual history, that being one of the first people outside of Japan to be welcomed in as a Samurai. There’s plenty of story and we didn’t need Shadow Realm mechs in our 1500s historical Japan. It’s also really telling that Netflix did no promotion of the show aside from a few screenshots of Yasuke in armor and only released trailers a day or two before release.

Yasuke’s history has too many gaps that if they took liberty with yasuke’s role is real world sengoku history I’m sure you’d be in the comments talking the same shit. The anime is fantastical, they explained that when the mongols invaded they brought steam mechs with them and the Japanese adapted them, I like how the onmyoji are represented in this show too, the magic is fantasy is what I’ve been looking for so personally it makes it great

I wished this show was more real in terms of plot and historical vibe without all these mystical and fictional stuffs, but its a good show
True, I was expecting more of his history and less fiction. Still enjoyable but more could’ve been done.
The animation style seems to be a bit closer to the western one, reminds me of DC animated movies.

my problem with mappa is that their compositing sucks, what I mean is the lighting, camera angle, background animations and other stuff, tons of wasted scenes because of it. This problem can be seen in most of their animes, especially JJK.

@@skeetskeet7041 They should’ve done a Sengoku-esque story based around Yasuke’s rise to samurai and had a fully fleshed story and cast loosely based on history, but instead we got whatever the hell this was supposed to be. We needed more of yasuke story, sure there wasnt much about him during his life with oda nobunaga but they could have created a lot of scenarios for him since we do have nobunaga history before he died, and at least then the story would have been better with some notable characters we know of from japan history to add.

The character has Depth in his eye, the action is good. It reminds me of naruto and samurai champloo I think I spelled it right! The visuals are good. By this trailer I give it a 7 out of 10 leading towards 8 lol. Congrats on you and your team regardless.

one of the animators who worked closely with the director of program was the character designer of yasuke. his name is takeshi koike. he also directed world record on animatrix.

I mean I understand all the perspectives about this anime being a stretch as far as historical events and being make believe not meshing together.but I feel alot of people wasn't making mutch comments about a samurai movie that had these same or close to elements in it as a ninja scroll and any other anime portraying ancient Japan's history.theve damn never has these same supernatural or magical elements in it aswell as machines and so forth and I've hardly heard or read things about the way this anime has been spoke of concerning these same things. Just my opinion not all but most have done this

Everybody is talking about the mechs and magic but it’s not them being there that’s the problem it’s the implementation that’s bad. They aren’t put into the story in a different interesting or attractive way and it messes everything up. My point in saying this is that the show didn’t fail because of the non historical parts it failed because the whole thing wasn’t really thought out well at all. It’s like they thought I want magic and mechs and threw it in there without consider much of the things you have to do along with that

I dont wanna say the story is trash trash....but trash lol. Studio Mappa with the animation and the ost is the only reason i could stomach these 6 episodes. Its like a reverse seven deadly sins season 3-4, bad story but great animation.

Story is awful, animation is aight, but nowhere near stuff like Sword of the Stranger, or Afro Samurai as far as choreography and cinematography.
Fights dont have any weight, the story gets hijacked by a personality-less magic child, and no characters really develop in any meaningful way.
And theres so many ugly CG shots that it detracts from the visuals overall.
