Never have two people thoroughly deserved one another like these two.
“I’ll give you 10 seconds. Appleby? Your time is up!” It certainly is.
I haven't laughed so hard in a long time watching Appleby pull the rug and completely muck it up only for her to ask if that is how he does it. The look on his face.
Alma Davis...I played this over a couple of times.. Hilarious ..hahahahhaa
Ikr, 😅😂🤣, he’ll go to jail for the one murder he didn’t commit
Can you bring me a glass of water?
He was not a natural or pleasure seeking killer. That is why he looked so distraught even in the act of murder (or attempted murder). He was simply desperate for money.
I never laughed so hard when his 2nd wife Martha took one slip and somehow bashed her own brains out. Walking around was a hazard to one's health back then
WOW, That ending took me by surprise !!
I laughed all through 9 minutes of this movie...the way he looked at Martha's white stockings..like ..wtf are you wearing 🤣. The way he looked at her as to kill her because she won't give him the money for his shop 🤣. Hitchcock reallly knew how to put these movies together nuff respect to him. Brillant. I watch these all weekend during this crisis. Thank you for uploading.
He wasn't looking at her stockings. He was thinking about pulling the rug and killing her like he did his 1st wife.
This is from a book called The Orderly World Of Mr. Appleby. Fantastic novel and they have done very well with thos episode.
I'll have to pick up that book.
Hitchcock's movies are so suspenseful and intriguing ive never watched a bad one.
I like them as well. His unique style of delivering a somewhat sinister mystery was definitely unsurpassed in that day and age. 👍
I'm addicted to these videos!
People who have never seen this episode are being cheated not being able to see the beginning. The Mr. Appleby character was married before courting "Martha", and killed his wife to acquire her inheritance to be able to keep his curios and his shop. He found out Martha had MONEY and pursued her !
Thank you so much for the link; much appreciated.... It’s a pleasure to watch the full episodes as the tales are fully fleshed out... And of course, Hitch introducing the story is always a bonus..
I agree. What's mess up is she decided to keep him after she found out he's a murdered. Come on.
@@gwadkarukera She decided she liked being married...even to a murderer, lol !
@@gwadkarukera She justified it as her needing to protect other, unsuspecting women from him. Whereas other people in that situation might simply, I don't know, go the police or something?
JUSTICE has a way of catching you. A genuine accident with his second wife will make him pay for the deliberate death of his first wife. Sometimes you really do reap what you sow. And I LOVE IT when cold hearted callous brutes get what they so richly deserve in such a shocking and totally unexpected manner.
Then I hope you do not support Donald Trump!

Hitchcock was a genius and the master of the macabre!
A darn. I rather liked the punishment of him living with her having the upper hand.
The diet in those days seemed to keep people in great condition. She looks fantastic.
She does.
Robert Harris always good in these kinds of roles. I haven't seen him in alot of things but probably more than I remember. Don't think I've ever seen him as a totally-good person. He played a pyschologist in the Gregory Peck movie "Mirage", where he wasn't evil or devious but still rather stern & suspicious. He was in another TV Hitchcock, whose title I forget, but it starred British-actress Wendy Hiller. He's quite-likable until something's revealed at the end. At first-glance, most women likely would find Mr. Harris to be rather unattractive as a potential suitor or spouse but upon further-exposure he exudes a kind of dignity & charm, as well as a somewhat-lilting or hypnotic-sound to his voice, even a certain handsomeness in a less-traditional way. In this episode, one wonders if Appleby would've had the strength to pull-out those rugs with a person standing on them but I suppose it's possible. As a student of ancient-history, I can sympathize with the man's obsession for his priceless-antiques. Good episode!
What did you think of "The Safe Place", and "Toby"?
@@alternateself1244 I don't immediately recall "Place" but I remember liking "Toby" alot. Was that the one with Jessica Tandy? I may be thinking of something else.
@@jackbuckley7816 Yes, 'Toby' was with Jessica Tandy. I think 'A Safe Place' had to do with a bank employee trying to get away with stealing from his own bank.
@@alternateself1244 Excellent, though Toby is not as well rated in IMDB as I thought it would be....maybe because it was more a character study. Jessica Tandy and Robert H. Harris were great together.
@@coppingtonfarnham7731 agreed. Some of these episodes, I wish were longer and deeper. "Toby" is one of them...
Sometimes, I enjoy Alfred's foreward and epilogue more than the mystery ✌
Your frightful day just got more frightful thanks to good ol' Hitchcock!
Mr. Appleby looked hysterical with that rug under his chin and his bulging eyes... jajaja
Mr Appleby looked a bit like Peter Lorre. 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was cracking up laughing
This is/was a master work... wow for a short film really well done.. made me jump
Love to see the villain's get theirs! Thank you.
Beautifully done! I enjoyed this one immensely! Hitchcock is the best!
he wanted to get out of the frying pan , he fell in the fire.
He killed his first wife for the insurance money to pay off the stuff at his shop, this lady came in the shop to buy something and broke an item . She wanted to pay for it he screamed at her then later found out she was rich so he went after her to marry her to continue running his stupid shop. He owes a lot of money to a man/company that provides him with these items. (That's the beginning in short)
Where can I see the beginning of what you have written?
Thanks
Thx
1) That was all clearly implied in this Short
2) You forgot to preface your comment with “SPOILER ALERT”.
How rude.
"I have no vices -- save fortune hunting and serial murder."
Now that's funny. 🤣

Moral laxity 😂😂😂
There was an excellent remake of this in the series Tales of the Unexpected. Elizabeth Spriggs played Miss Sturgis totally differently, as a large, domineering Gorgon of a wife who was in no way going to allow Appleby to abrogate his, ahem, conjugal duty. In addition, the remake gave Miss Sturgis a fascinating and unguessable ulterior motive for marrying Appleby.
Yes,,She hated her father ,and since Appleby was so like him she wanted to order him about and if need be punish him,,,lols,,Great viewing,,
Interestingly, Hitchcock's was actually the second TV adaptation of this story. In 1950, it had been adapted for an early series called 'The Web' (which had given the episode the simpler title 'The Orderly Mr. Appleby'). And the title character in that adaptation had likewise been portrayed by an actor named 'Harris' (Jonathan Harris, in that case).
What’s the name of the episode?
"My man...your plan backfired IN YOUR FACE !"
The ultimate "Postman always rings twice" version from the small screen.
Wonderful and spot-on parallel!
Well, he got his wish, now his goose is cooked
Well DAM did dude REALLY say he'd lose his entire MIND by staying home with HER 😆 omg that's just TERRIBLE 😲 then called her poor cat a beast 😬 DANNNG what a LAME 🙄 no charmer at all... @Deb Thank you for the link. Watched it all, another great Hitchcock great. Loved his shows.
@Deb many thanks.
@Deb , thank you.
Can we not see the whole episode
08:40 Worst attempted murder, in the history of worst attempts, ever!!! XD XD XD
Most falls happen in the home everyday when someone is not even trying to murder you.
I was hoping she would chain him up in a dungeon, but Hitchcock would have considered that in bad taste.
lol
Maybe she would have lived if she had kicked his scheming and murderous behind to the curb.I don't get why such a lovely and stately woman would want such a man.
Some women like bald men. He seemed courtly and dignified.
It's only a movie get over it!!!
Because that’s what was written in the script...
Calvin Jackson, the answer your question, watch "Tales of the Unexpected" same title. as this.
She wanted to control him and keep him there for the rest of her life.
Awesome. Hitchcock was a master of his art.
Somehow I’m really feeling sorry for Mrs Appleby. She’d have deserved a better fate. 😘🌹
I did feel sorry for this one, but not the first.
This is a good & funny episode😂🤣😂🤣. MARTHA: WILL U MARRY ME? Lmaof she's so smart he can't get away with MURDER.🤣😂🤣😂
I SEEN IT more times

That was wonderful!!!
I LOVE this one!
Haha, that was a good one 👍🏽💙
Best one yet! 😊

Remember she's a woman, and I believe that they are all alike. NOT!
Sharon Smalls KINDA 🤣
Of course you are, Sharon dear . . . Hmm, hm, hm, just kiding sweetie.
I wouldn't have married that man. Hell no. What for??! She seem successful I'm sorry but she didn't need him.
..and why WOULDN'T they be !?!
Just because some sport a Mercedes emblem, or a VW emblem or even a Dodge emblem: they're all still a *CAR!!* And they'll aLL run your butt into court and/or the jailhouse!!
Take your pick and have a bumpy ride!!!
Both, Meg Mundy and Louise Larabee, were knockout dames in their heyday ✌
One of my favorite
That was good.
He had to keep his murder book behind the other books in both houses
This was a good one.
Well done, Mr. Hitchcock.👏
This episode shows the hazard of having carpets in the home.. a fatal one at that!
This is a very good one.
Oh my God!!! I never saw it coming. Good old Hitch!
Good one
Yea🏰;Mr Appleby is one slick old man !!! $💵 Dollarsign is in his eyes!!!!! Martha dear
Thanks 😊
I always liked this story. It was redone for the British series Tales of the Unexpected, with a different concept for the new wife, who was played as a domineering Gorgon by the marvelous Elizabeth Spriggs. There was also an ingenious and delightful motive given for her eagerness to marry Mr Appleby.
Where’s the beginning,,
I watch this almost everyday!!!
Lol, desperate times, desperate measures, lol
Fools always "rush in". 😉
P.S. "Timing" is everything!
This was redone for Tales of the Unexpected.
I remember that one. He was much more menacing and she was much more sadistic in that one.
If you like this one watch The Dangerous People. Same guy, hilarious!!!
It seems that many of these stories first appeared in the radio serials Suspense and the Whistler.
Meg Mundy gave a fine and nuanced performance. Her name was the cause of a Dorothy Parker quip: "Meg Mundy? Is that a Welsh holiday?"
Ha! What a brat she was. Dorothy Parker, I mean.
Both actors were very good. Enjoyed them!
Drives me nuts but cats don’t drink milk . Isn’t the woman strange looking and the man I couldn’t never go for him lol .
Cats drink milk.
Everybody have a motive. He was after her money she should had listen to her gut feelings. He was so sweet before the marriage now he's aggressive and demanding. Suddenly, he's broke he needs a loan. She could have done bad by herself.
Courting the old fashioned way:)
Why would you want your husband at home all day? You both would go stir crazy.
MILDRED PIERCE Togetherness. Domesticity.
She didn't but she know he was dry begging.
@@lawranew5125 o
Speaking from experience no doubt.
In the original short story, Mr. Appleby had killed six wives before Martha, for inheritance and insurance money to pay off his debt and running his store.
In the book he killed the six of them not by pulling rugs from under their feet, but by breaking their necks using a snapping technique he learnt from a forensic medicine book. Then he reported the "accidents" to authorities, saying his wives slipped on rugs and falling down broken their necks. All six wives. (Why the authorities did not suspect him before is a bit unrealistic IMHO).
The book and this Hitchcock Presents episode are in agreement with the ending. Mr. Appleby did not kill Martha Sturgis (his seventh wife in the book, his second wife in this TV episode). Martha's high heels slipped on the slippery rug as she's going to answer the phone. She slipped and fell and broken her neck. She's the only one among Mr. Appleby's wives who really died by slipping and falling.
Thank you for that info. So he goes to jail for a crime he never committed.
How do we stay orderly in a world of chaos?
Maybe Hitchcock had the answer.
Because all his movies were perfectly made.
Wonder if Mr. Appleby has eaten at Applebee's?
I get it that CZcams wants to monetize videos by embedding advertisements. But this one, like several others, is likely twice the volume of the subject video. In other words, it is way loud. If it is done intentionally, it is a good way of alienating viewers like me from ever purchasing the product or service.
Use an ad blocker.
Dexter Haven, The volume on TV commercials have been loud literally for about 50 years if not longer. Internet commercials are just following the format of their television counterparts.
@@mildredpierce4506 What did you just say?..
"Pulling the rug under ones feet." Huge facepalm!
Where is the beginning??! 😂🤣
Why would the lady still want this man even after she knew the guy was trying to kill her ?
Wow, talk about tables being turned 😎
Great Cast. Robert H. Harris, Gage Clark both Marvelous actors. The two ladies are wonderful also. I need to go to Google for their names.
At least Appleby won't have to slug it out with that cat 🐈
So where are the complete videos?
LOL....the scoundrel Mr. Appleby, feigning he loved this lady when in reality he was only after her loot! Serves him right, although his second wife payed for her decision to keep other ladies safe from him, with her life, but off to jail for life Mr. Appleby, your trinkets that you so value will just accumulate dust in somebody's attic. What a scoundrel!
This was re-enacted as a Tales of the Unexpected.
anyone know where to get the full episodes 🤔 👀
Is there full movie of this?
I loose my shop 😂👍🤩🤣☺️😂
Not comparing Apples to Oranges here, but the Roald Dahl version has more substance in it. Please check Tales Of The Unexpected.
Hilarious!
Why aren’t these videos shown to the end?
07:23 Trying to talk to your wife.
😂😂😂 What in the world are we gonna do with Alfred? I thought Mr Appleby had met his even change, looks like he'll be paying for past sins now.
Wow
Divorce is not upstanding, but murder is?
Lookss like Appleby's time really did run out. He is royally screwed.
I screamed at the end!
Ikr!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Welcome to an old fashioned woman's world. Tides turned.
the "Tales of the unexpected" version of this story is much better in my opinion. Mrs Appleby has a different character... much more sneaky and villainous. And its kinda steering the viewer to have some kind of sympathy for Mr Appleby.
Sometimes a trap remains. An Open Trap
But I need the money today.
She almost looks like the same woman from another Hitchcock where she is a school teacher and he is her neighbor. That was a good one too.
He must be Gay, or have no libido; in real life, she actually was a top Model in NY back in the day and they sure know how to hide it here if you are not really looking. He of course, it no Model....his character hit the Jack Pot and didn't know it. Nice Kitty!
